Seas of Marecult #2

Fate of Ruby and Throne

Rate this book
Georgette dreams of slitting her husband's lying throat and escaping Hallow manor. It's not out of the realm of possibility for the pirate captain, but killing the king won't be without consequence.

By day, the king isn't a threat, and that's disconcerting for Georgette. Fighting to break free from his stronghold, she struggles to reconcile her growing attraction and utter disdain for him.

Princess Mercy faces two battles. One is a battle of wills with her brother, the King of Adamas. The other is an internal battle with dueling realities. As she grieves for her friends, she pines for a life on the high seas, aboard The Siren.

Mercy wants to be the princess her people deserve, but with the handsome Captain Elias Baine at her side, she's decidedly conflicted.

The palace halls prove much more dangerous than a ship's deck for a pirate turned queen, and a princess turned pirate who brave the unknown in search of their destinies.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. As soon as I had finished the first book in this duology I jumped right in to the second, and was glad of the ARC as I didn’t want to wait to read more! This is a direct continuation of the first novel, following our two female leads.

The stories for our two women drew me in to their world and I forgot myself among their respective travels. The banter with Captain Georgette and her captor had me giggling out loud and gasping in shock. My heart was pounding for her during her more “pirate” behaviour. I couldn’t get enough!

Our female leads were very well - and believably - written. The characters had their own distinctions and the timelines also easy to follow and tons of fun.

I would love a short story collection of our Captains Baine!

"Oceans Deep!" What a book!!!! As a sequel to, Fortune of Emerald and Salt, I had high expectations for this book and it did NOT disappoint. Pirates, princesses, evil kings, sword fighting, plot twists, lost love, concealed love, heroic women, a captive queen, destinies unknown, and so much more. Not everyone is as they seem! Monroe Wildrose captured all the adventure, all the suspense, and had me holding my breath in anticipation of my favorite characters finding the love and destinies
they knew they always deserved. Oh my heart! You just have to read this book series! It is one of my all time favorites!

well well well here we are a day later since i have zero self control when it comes to reading these days apparently. these characters are all so dear to me even if it was short lived. i loved the dichotomy of mercy and george and how they both learned things from each other because that’s what friendship is, even when you’re away from the other. what a fun duology! i kinda want more stories about this little group of friends and their adventures.

I really loved this Duology. It was a lot of fun. The character development in the second book was perfect and I loved the way the story unfolded. I am a little sad to say goodbye to Georgette, Elias, Cassius and Mercy. It feels a little too soon

Wow!!!! I love George so much!!! Her journey was so inspiring. I felt like I was living vicariously through her, especially with her relationship with her Elias. Their bound is so unique and them being separated breaks my heart but isn’t that the normal rite of passage. Siblings can be completely different and have different needs that have to be met. This story is beautiful. It shows the importance of blood and found family. I want to read more of their adventures!!!

So this series is marketed for fans of Daughter of the Pirate King and The Shadows Between us and I WHOLE HEARTEDLY agree 100%.

This is book two in the series and I had a blast through it! This follows the events after book one, where one of the main characters is taken from her pirate life to be a Queen to a man she would rather unalive in his sleep if given the chance. However, as she spends more and more of her days with him she learns he is so much more than she thought and her whole perception could be completely wrong.

Another main character is pretty much the opposite, a princess who wants to turn pirate to be on the seas with a handsome captain.

This book is full of sass, banter and some unique characters I fall in love with all over again with each book. A great upper YA clean romance (so far) series.

Special thank you to the author for providing the audio book for my honest review. It was amazing!

No Spoilers! I was lucky to get an ARC copy of Fate of Ruby and Throne and I am so thankful. When I say I could not put this book down, I mean it. Wildrose's intricate storytelling pulls you in and doesn't let go. I had high hopes after reading the first novel and was very impressed. Monroe Wildrose is definitely my new favorite author!

Did I finish this book in one day? Yes I did.
Did I stay awake til 2.30AM to finish it? Yes I did.
Did I adore every single word written? YES I DID!

This journey with George and Mercy is beautiful and I loved every second of it.

A story of pirates, princesses, villains and kings. A story of family, love and belonging.
A story that tells you that appearances can be deceiving.
A story that shows kindness shows strength above all else.

I am delighted and privileged that I received an ARC of this book and I am so excited for everyone else to read it. You won't be disappointed ❤️

I received an ARC of this book but I preordered it immediately upon finishing it. You always hear about how sequels aren't as good as the first book; well that is absolutely not the case for this duology. This book was just as good (actually, maybe it was better) as the first one.

I am not kidding when I say that I started this book at 10pm one day and finished it at about 3pm the next day because I couldn't put it down. I love all of the characters (except some side characters but they know what they did) and was so compelled to finish this book that I even skimped out on work to finish it.

If you're looking for a lovely pirate/princess adventure this is without a doubt the one I'd recommend.

Thank you to Monroe Wildrose and Teapots and Stolen Souls Publishing for allowing me to read an ARC copy of this book!

This installment is just as delightful as the first. These characters are exciting and interesting regardless of the setting. I loved getting to see them try new things and push the boundaries of their new roles. I love that the plot-twists just kept coming after the first book. I pre-ordered a physical copy before I had even finished the ARC. That's how sure I am that this book will be a hit! I loved it!

This is going to be long winded and sappy, but that is what this book did to me. It took me awhile to get my thoughts in order for this one.

Tldr: This book is emotional, dynamic, and sexy. READ IT.

This story touched something in my heart in a way I don't often experience with books. Fortune of Emerald and Salt held so many things that resonated with me. The complicated relationships of siblings, found family, hopeful futures, star crossed love, and the sharp sting of the loss. Fate of Ruby and Throne was not different and left me with the worst book hangover.

What I loved about both stories is the dual narrative of the female protagonist. Their parallel journey's are so different, and yet so complimentary to each other. These two women, each born into a predestined role, fought the very desires of their heart to live up to their expectations. And each was suffocating under the weight of those expectations.

The greatest lesson to be learned from this story is that we are more than where we came from and more than we were raised to be. There is something eternally optimistic about the idea that you can choose the life you lead. It is not shameful to want a different life for yourself, and choose another path no matter how far down the road you are.

So often we are told in life all the things we CANNOT do, and this story is a beautifully woven tale of two women who bravely defy this notion. And experience the full nuance of emotions and challenges that come from that. Because in finding love there can also be loss. This is a part of life, and part of every story. The bitter with the sweet happy ever after. The story was all the better for it, and made the the sweetest moments so much more meaningful.

The only word I can use to describe it is visceral. You feel every moment, every emotion, every pain. Not every storyteller can do that. I was wrapped up in this story and it would not let me go. Anyone who has experienced the grief of losing someone dear to them will recognize themselves in these pages. It is beautifully cathartic and honest.

And do not let the fade to black romance in this book fool you. The romance and sexual tension is everything you hope for, and you don't feel like you are missing a thing. The spice may be cinnamon, but it's Red Hots. It managed to be so sexy without being explicit. I adored every scene. They were so delicious.

A stunning conclusion to this must read duology.

Wow. I had so much fun reading this book that I demolished it in one day- I wasn't sure how I would feel after the cliffhanger ending of book one (which you MUST read before getting into this book) but Monroe Wildrose gave us an amazing ending to this duet. The book picks right up where it left off in book 1 with George married to Cassius and quite angry about it once she realizes who it was she married. Three months have passed since their wedding and while he won't give her freedom he doesn't keep her locked up either, just assigned his growly guard Brees to follow her everywhere. Meanwhile Mercy wakes up after her rescue back in her old bed and is told her captors- Absalom, George and Elias- are all dead but that she was kidnapped by her intended in a plot to start war. This book, much like the first, is beautifully written and weaves the interconnected stories of Georgette, Cassius, Mercy and Elias with solid supporting characters Brees and Devika. There's romance (pretty minimal spice), adventure and a lot of humor as George tries to infuriate her new husband into sending her away (at first). This is a really fast paced read and I found myself unable to put the book down until the very end! I received an ARC copy of this book and am leaving my honest review voluntarily.

I have nothing but the absolute highest praises for Monroe Wildrose and her work, and this book (along with her debut novel “Fortunes of Emerald & Salt”) set sail in my bookworm heart and their anchor is set to stay.

Even when I was pulled away from this book to tend to other things (blah, adulting) my mind was enthralled by the plot, the adventure, the characters. Oohhhh the characters, be ready to fall in love, roll your eyes, laugh out loud, and shed a tear. These characters that Monroe Wildrose has brought to life are simply fantastic in every sense of the literary word. You just simply have to read for yourself to experience the absolute delight and page-turning greatness.

I incredibly look forward to this phenomenal author’s future work, and seeing it set off into bookshelves all over, because they way she crafts words and tells a story is unlike any other I have ever experienced.

A toast to the author who brought us pirates, mad kings, adventure, and surprise! May her words always flow, and the love for writing forever wave it’s flag!

The first book had my expectations set high and this one did not disappoint!

I finished the book in a day, it was absolutely impossible to put down.
The dialogue was easy and flowed well, the characters maintained their depth and uniqueness.
The world building was still as beautiful as before and seemed to suck you out if reality and into this fictional world.
The bantar and sharp wit was ever present and I found myself laughing and smiling like an idiot a good portion of the time.
Though some parts brought me to tears, the book was thoroughly heartwarming.
It was nearly impossible to find a favourite character, as soon as I did, another one would outshine them.
I loved the support Elias had to offer Mercy and the unconditional love.
As for Cassius and Gerogette, I found myself chuckling at their stubbornness, I thought numerous times that they perfectly depicted: "if you go low, I'll go lower," to say it was amusing is an understatement.

I wish there was more, I'm sad to let go of this journey so soon, it was a delight.

4.5 stars for sure, sweet and exciting

I was so satisfied with this duology. It took me by surprise and surpassed my expectations. I was in a reading slump and had NEVER seen this series recommended, on Instagram or on my Kindle and I somehow came across it. I took a chance on it, hoping for a nice quick read and I can say it was so great!

Unlike so many series, the ending here wrapped up nicely and absolutely made sense. I took off a half star because I do feel like there could have been a whole additional quarter added to the end of this book, but for things being wrapped up so quickly, it was done well.

You root for the characters and they're developed well, including side characters. The main FPs are sassy and witty, but not, "brash and idiotic as an excuse for being strong and outspoken" which is so prevalent in writing these days.

The books themselves are now drawn out and long, they're which reads. But I would absolutely recommend them for a weekend duology!

"How much is the word of a pirate worth?" He did smile completely then, and I felt I had won a small victory.
"Not much, but what else am I to offer you?" I walked into my room and closed the door behind me.

I was extremely lucky to receive an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. Monroe A Wildrose has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I absolutely adored book one, but this book holds a special place in my heart. Georgette and Mercy are so well developed, and their character growth was done seamlessly over the course of the two books.

If you enjoy found family, enemies to lovers, and empowering women to take hold of their futures, carving out the lives they desire, then this book is for you.

I am also hopelessly in love with Elias Baine because who doesn’t want a romantic pirate captain.

Holy slow burn enemies to lovers

This duology is probably one of my top reads of 2023. A pirate gone queen.

SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST BOOK FORTUNE OF EMERALD AND SALT

This book starts off 3 months after Georgette has been kidnapped and forced to marry Cassius. She has her rebellious moments while trying to plan her revenge. We also get a dual POV with Mercy and her battle with being forced back into playing the role of Princess. There is so much more but I don’t want to give spoilers!

This book was perfection. The build up of tension between the main characters. The banter. The heartfelt moments with siblings and friends. I never wanted to leave these characters. Im sad it’s over. I wish I could go on adventures with them forever.

Oh and the Cassius POV at the end 🥺 this book is worth it just for that alone.

The editing never got any better

I came into book 2 hoping an editor had taken even a glance at it. It turned out to be no better than book 1. By the end, I’d come to the following conclusions: 1, the author has no idea how to use commas and periods; and 2, these books HAD to have been written on, like, an iPad or something, and autocorrect had run wild and unchecked. There were times I felt I’d had to read nearly every sentence at least twice just to restructure it in my head to be how it should’ve been.

The story was okay. I was glad for the epilogue, because I really thought that treasure thing was going to be thrown out and never mentioned again.

I loved this story! It was fantastically written! The twists and turns, the angst and tension, had me reading/listening well into the night cause I couldn’t get enough. Yes I both read the book as I listened to the audiobook. Monroe Wildrose is a great story teller! Kudos to Ali Dane for an excellent job in bringing voices to these characters. Her voice is soothing and expressive. I never had trouble knowing which character she was portraying. I highly recommend the book and the audio, especially together!

Obsessed.

Can the second book be better than the first, you ask?
ABSOLUTELY!!!
This book knocked the first book out of the park!
I was hooked and absolutely loved the slooooow burn. I felt enraptured by this book and its characters. I’m sad to say goodbye to them because I truly came to love them! Each character had SO much growth, and Wildrose wrote them each so beautifully.

I want to keep reading more, but I believe this is where their story ends. But I’m so glad I was able to join them on their journey.

This book picks back up where Fortune of Emerald and Salt leaves off. I felt it did a great job of turning some of the expected plotlines on their heads, and flushing out all angles from each main character's point of view. It makes you love some and hate some, and to me, that makes a great story. It gets cozy, but then cuts to the bone, so if you like ups and downs, Ruby and Throne should thrill you. It takes a little while to get to it all, but when it does, you'll hold on as long as you can. I do recommend this series as long as you are ready to read both.

What a change of events

Boy oh boy does George have her hands full. She wasn’t meant to be a Queen. How could she be a Queen to Cassius the liar?

Using her title she was able to appoint her brother a title and land after finally reconnecting. Sending him off to the love of his life Mercy’s home was a blessing for sure.

You literally need to buy this now. I can’t give you the ending but it was amazing!

This series was so good! This was my first pirate book and we get so much with that - I was pleasantly surprised with how much I loved this story. I was worried we were going to be focused too much on the war aspect of this book, but this story did a great job of unfolding in surprising ways in the best way possible.
(This is YA, so there is no spice but it’s still so good!!)

Will be thinking of George, elias, cas, and mercy for a while.

So far I've read this book twice and both times I could not put it down and finished it in less than a day. Both times as I tore through the pages and grew closer to the end I wished there was more! But sadly as the best books do it came to a beautiful close. I am adding the series to my bookshelves as an adventure I will reread many more times.

After reading the first one I had to start the second immediately. It took me less than 24hrs to read the whole book because as soon as I started it I couldn't put it down. The slow burn was incredible and the tension between the two couples was well worth waiting through. I cannot wait to read whatever Ms. Wildrose brings out next!!

A great continuation to the last book after the heartbreak we went through jk . I love the character growth that each character experiences and how each of them come in being whole they are not is what expected of them but who they want to be. Love this book and would like a side story epilogue if that ever occurred!
