She’s feisty. Fierce. And trapped in the elevator of a building I own.
So I climb down the shaft determined to distract her. My tools aren’t the kind on a toolbelt, but I get the job done, cooling Skye’s rage as we heat up this tin box hanging two stories off the ground.
The hot young med student has good reasons to be pissed, and better ones for dodging relationships. Why should she trust a stranger 14 years older to know what she needs?
But the sexy spitfire captivates me, and it’s clear Skye’s hungry for my touch.
Time to prove not all men are jerks. Especially one with a few wicked tricks up his sleeve.
Tough Cookie is a scorching hot standalone m/f erotic romance with a little m/f/m/f/f treat. If you like age gap, enemies-to-lovers, and menage, this one’s for you. The story contains no cheating and an HEA is guaranteed!
When Tawna Fenske finished her English lit degree at 22, she celebrated by filling a giant trash bag full of romance novels and dragging it everywhere until she’d read them all. Now she’s a RITA Award finalist, USA Today bestselling author who writes humorous fiction, risqué romance, and heartwarming love stories with a quirky twist. Publishers Weekly has praised Tawna’s offbeat romances with multiple starred reviews and noted, “There’s something wonderfully relaxing about being immersed in a story filled with over-the-top characters in undeniably relatable situations. Heartache and humor go hand in hand.”
Tawna lives in Bend, Oregon, with her husband, step-kids, and a menagerie of ill-behaved pets. She loves hiking, snowshoeing, standup paddleboarding, and inventing excuses to sip wine on her back porch. She can peel a banana with her toes and loses an average of twenty pairs of eyeglasses per year. To find out more about Tawna and her books, visit www.tawnafenske.com.
Not as full-on as the first sexy book. But it is still an erotic tale with fun and humour.
But it still has sexual tension on steroids. There are lots of sexy times and mixing of people and as I have come to love Tawna's writing lots of laughter.
It is fun, steamy, and titillating to the nth degree. You may need a cold shower after this.
“I swear, every time I meet a guy I think is pretty great, it turns out he’s kind of an ass-ham.” She takes a ferocious bite of the protein bar and chews like she’s bitten off someone’s head.
Just seems like looking for relationships on Tinder is like shopping for organic arugula at a 7-11.
My Review:
Holy scorched ceiling tiles! I had to keep the fans on high and libations close at hand to ward off dehydration while reading these saucy and salacious tales. These are far more licentious than my usual read and her rom/coms, yet Ms. Fenske continues to conjure up classy and amusing erotic romances that kept me alternating between gasping and smirking.
Well, well, well, if it isn’t the needle I’ve been searching for in the Amazon haystack since Sierra Simone first introduced me to the art of m/f romantic erotica. This isn’t a Sierra Simone book, though. This is low angst. But the steam and the feels … whew!
This was a 160 page sauna … that first flash of heat gets you then it settles in and you adjust, get all cozy and dredge up some feelings and deep thoughts, before you nearly get overheated and you leave blissfully - all warm and fuzzy.
The way the vulnerability and insecurity is written from Devon and Skye … perfection. The overthinking. The baggage. But it wasn’t so deep or traumatic that it overpowered the story either.
Devon is more golden retriever/cinnamon roll and Skye is a dynamic character - one I think many readers will relate with. She’s anxious and insecure yet also successful, strong, and knows what she likes and what she wants out of life.
I couldnt go full 5⭐️ because the slang became a little dated/trendy at times and I would’ve like a little more originality than the cliche of break up rage as a starter, but this was exactly what I’d want from a book in this genre otherwise.
And the m/f/m/f/f scene at the end … 🫠🌶️ … I’m melting.
I cannot get over this starving med student who can’t afford the fancy pizza place wearing Valentino Rockstud pumps and having La Perla thongs. Those shoes are $1,000 and the underwear is like minimum $50 lololol
Tough Cookie is a standalone sexy read by Tawna Fenske about. young med student who gets stuck in an elevator and is rescued by the building owner…14 years her senior..wholly hotness, off the charts chemistry, standalone but inter-connected to Eye Candy, awesome read! Can’t wait for more…
Book 2 in this series continued to deliver the spice that the author promised. Following one of the male secondary characters introduced in Eye Candy (Book 1 of this series), this novella revolves around Devon (Aidan’s best friend and partner) and Skye, a tenant in his building. When the elevator in their building breaks down, Devon climbs down to see if there’s a quick fix and finds Skye ranting about her cheating ex. Add a good dash of instalust as well as some hot as Hades chemistry and fate seems to have played a part in bringing these two together. While Devon in introduced in the first instalment in this series, Skye is a shiny, new character. There’s a quick revisit from Josh, Aidan and Kyla as well as several pop-ups from Nina, who’s Skye’s neighbour, however this book can definitely be read as a standalone.
While there was still plenty of steam packed into a novella-sized story, this one had a slightly different feel to it compared to Book 1. The tension and sexual build-up came on strong from the beginning between Devon and Skye, but whereas Book 1 was heavier with the kink from the get-go, Tough Cookie focussed more on the couple’s relationship and them deciding to take a chance on each other. There’s only one kinkier scene (mmfff) that steams up the pages with the rest revolving around Devon and Skye’s bedroom antics (although these aren’t always in the bedroom lol). I liked both of the main characters. Skye had a moment where one of her decisions will probably frustrate readers, especially since it was something she herself had hang-ups about, but I really liked how the author showed her insecurities. Devon was absolute perfection. While he was a confident, sexy man of the world, his character was a complete sweetheart who was willing to put himself and his feelings out there as this author once again showed that male leads can be alpha/domineering without being giant jerks. Considering the shorter length of this story, Devon still managed to pack a punch with the author portraying his character and mannerisms perfectly. Smart, successful, sweet, adorably self-deprecating and works with his hands? Yes please!
There’s a fair age gap between the two main characters – Devon is fourteen years senior to Skye’s twenty-four years – but you wouldn’t really know it as the two complemented each other well. The spice level was hot and heavy and I loved the acceptance and non-sleaziness of the men and the confidence of the women in the story. This was a great, quick, steamy read.
Book two in the Sugar and Spice series can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV. Readers should be aware that this is not your typical Rom-Com by this author. Spicy is a HUGE understatement. Originally ghost written as an erotic romance under a pen name, this book has been rewritten and re-edited to capture the author’s rom-com voice without sacrificing any of the smoking hotness that is the story. Readers meet Devon in book one of the series. In fact, because these are short, I would recommend reading the series in order if you can since characters overlap all the books in the series. Skye is a feisty fireball. She is a 24-year-old med student with red gold hair and a lot of attitude. She has been looking for love in the wrong places and is surprised by how much she likes Devon when he literally drops into her broken elevator. At 38, Devon is successful in his career as an architect. Recently purchasing a run-down building to fix up into low-income student housing, he has been drawn to Skye’s fiery personality and beautiful looks from the start. Once they spend some time together sparks fly. I love that the characters have the depth they do for being a novella length book. They each have some baggage. Devon falls fast and Skye has the ability to hurt him. It felt very realistic. I loved it when they work through the damage of their pasts to get to their HEA. There are a lot of hot, hot scenes in this book. I am telling you now- like SUPER HOT. If that isn’t your thing, you maybe want to pick a different book to read. Personally, I loved it. When the author asked her arc team if we wanted to read these uber-spicy books as arcs? It was a no-brainer for me. I. AM. HERE. FOR. IT. These are very well done and honestly some of the best erotic romance I have read. If you like it hot, make sure you grab this series. From the author: Tough Cookie is a short, scorching hot standalone m/f erotic romance with a little m/f/m/f/f surprise. If you like age gap, enemies to lovers, and menage, this one’s for you. The story contains no cheating and an HEA is guaranteed! I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.
3.75stars-TOUGH COOKIE is the second instalment in Tawna Fenske’s contemporary, adult erotic, romance series. This is twenty-four year old, med student Skye Cross, and thirty-eight year old, architect/ building owner Devon Clark’s story line. TOUGH COOKIE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.
NOTE: TOUGH COOKIE is a story of erotica with scenes of m/f/m/f/f sexual scenarios including menage, voyeurism and same $ex (f/f) situations.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Devon and Skye) TOUGH COOKIE follows in the wake of the breakdown of the elevator in Skye’s apartment building. Having just discovered her boyfriend is engaged to someone else, Skye is on the verge of an emotional breakdown, and problems with the elevator are adding to her overwhelming anxiety. Enter building owner Devon Clark, and the man with whom Skye will fall in love. Time together in the elevator leads to several same-day sexual encounters but Skye is unable to see beyond her own emotional struggles, and pushes Devon out of her life. With the help of her friend, Skye asks Devon for another chance, a chance involving Skye’s neighbor Nina, and Devon’s friends Aidan and Lyla (EYE CANDY #1).
TOUGH COOKIE is an erotic story of insta-lust to love; a provocative elevator encounter that leads to something more but Skye battles between head and heart when demons from the past, refuse to let go. TOUGH COOKIE is a quick read; a fast paced, steamy story; the characters are energetic; the romance is passionate as Devon struggles to convince Skye to give them a chance.
I’m really enjoying this series and this might be my favorite book of the two out so far. I just really loved these two characters, Skye and Devon and their initial meeting was one to remember. I enjoyed their time in the elevator and it was as if they’d known each other forever. I wasn’t sure what would happen when Skye found out that Devon was way older than she was but as Devon said he’s known less mature 50 year olds and more mature 24 year olds. This book is definitely sexy and spicy, I’d say a little more than the first book however it was the story that I liked. You found out a lot about their pasts and a lot about why Skye is how she is especially in her tinder dating attempts. I really thought these two were on the right path and unfortunately Devon said something that connected to something not great in Skye’s past and she shut down. Of course, Nina comes to the rescue to help Skye out and in turn Devon. I have to say Nina is way cooler than I originally thought she was. I liked how Skye ‘fixed’ things with Devon and in turn I especially liked how Devon gave Skye a night to remember. Great story and I’m excited for Nina’s story coming next.
Tough Cookie starts off with a literal bang--in an elevator, this time. Followed up by another one in the heroine's apartment. Then, after some relationships are scary time off, we have so many more--including some very memorable scenes including other series characters that are quite reminiscent (while being totally different, since the configurations are all new ;)) to ones we saw in Eye Candy. Like the previous book, it finishes up with a somehow sweet (yet also totally *not* sweet) HEA. Tough Cookie *could* be read as a standalone, but since all (yes, I do mean ALL) the series characters have lots of fun in everyone else's books too--plus, they're fairly quick reads--you might as well read them all! #yourewelcome
Rating: 4 stars / B+
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I first heard about Tawna Fenske in August of 2015 when her book "About That Fling" was featured as a "Kindle First." I have fallen in love with the way that she tells a story. Her characters are fun, and even ones you may not like at first tend to grow on you. Since then, I have read anything that I have found by Tawna.
I really liked Devon in "Eye Candy," so I was excited to get a chance to read a story that stars him. Like that book, while it is an “erotic romance, I still enjoyed the actual storyline in the book.
Not to give too much away, when I found out the age difference in the main characters, I was a bit caught off guard. Eventually, it didn’t matter as much as I thought that it would.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. I am glad we were able to read Devon and Skye’s story, and I am looking forward to seeing future stories...especially with the remaining characters from the this book.
**A received an advanced reader copy for my honest review**
Heat. ALL the heat with an emotional vulnerability I wasn’t expecting. I love this author’s words so I thought this would be an uber-sexy read, but perhaps without laugh-out-loud humour (a hallmark of her rom-coms). And it was – oh it soooo was! The air blistered with the friction and heat of their chemistry. This older man, younger woman trope was infused with passion that felt genuine and real. It was no-holds-barred sexy with love and caring that knocked it out of the park! From a meet-cute you will never forget to love scenes that scorched the blankets, Skye and Devon owned these pages…
Raunchy with a healthy dash of caring. Uncertainty with a satisfying cup of love. If you are looking for a hot (soooo hot) and sweet (heart-pinging, no saccharine) read then you have found the perfect book!
Oh, that was a spicy delight and oh so delicious. “Tough Cookie” is a fun and steamy novella that did not lack on the spice at all.
Skye is not having a good day. She’s found her boyfriend hasn’t been loyal and now she’s stuck in an elevator. But when a hot man by the name of Devon, comes to her rescue, something in her kicks into overdrive and they have an instant connection.
I loved Skye right from the beginning. She’s so relatable with all she’s going through. And her secret desires are also relatable. She’s open and honest which is so refreshing. Devon was a delicious treat and the giver all good things. I enjoyed their instant chemistry and I’m looking forward to the next spicy novella from Tawna Fenske.
Here we have book two in The Sugar and Spice collection. Devon and Skye's story can be read as a standalone but since the stories are connected there is always that little extra bit you get when you read them all. Here we have med student Skye having a not so great day when she gets stuck in her buildings elevator. I mean come on she just wants to go home! Enter Devon the new building owner, but our damsel doesn't know that. She just thinks he's the handyman. Well there you have our meet cute, I mean come on what could be better than a handsome man dropping into an elevator to check on you? We have an age gap here and Skye definitely needs someone with influence and and experience to get her to let go. Okay enough of that before I spill too much. It's a quick read, with lots of steam and a much deserved happy ending. I have voluntarily left this review.
Stuck in an elevator with a stranger. What else is there to do but…enjoy each other. Yeah, that’s where we start and it just keeps getting hotter! Devon and Skye have a much hotter first meet than your average romance meet-cute, and I’m not complaining. The second book of the Sugar & Spice series, all of which can be read as stand-alone stories, is just as hot as the first but more relationship driven, in my opinion. I enjoyed watching Skye grow as a character and embrace both her fantasies…with the help of Devon and a few friends…and Devon himself. I’m loving this side of Tawna Fenske and her writing. I’m hoping she continues to produce both the rom-coms I’ve loved for years, as well as the smoking hot stories in the series. I’m here for it all.
I loved this spicy romance! I loved Skye’s character, so spicy and also having issues with her past.
I loved Skye and Devon’s fun and flirty elevator panic attack meet cute that turns into finding your person. Skye is a smart and sexy med student who tops off a terrible day by getting stuck in an elevator. Devon is a smart and sexy architect who recently bought the building Skye lives in. When Devon drops into the broken elevator with Skye, the fun and sexy emotion filled journey to their HEA begins. As Skye discovers it’s okay to have needs, the story shares that spicy discovery with us. The story was well written and included witty dialogue with spicy zing, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline.
Tough Cookie is another erotic release from Tawna Fenske and is the follow up to Eye Candy. This story features medical student Skye and landlord Devon (featured in Eye Candy) trapped in a elevator that leads to some spicy shenanigans! Devon is more than the handyman that Skye first believes and even though he is a decade plus older than she is there's a lot of chemistry between these two. Tough Cookie was a fun story. Low on angst and high on heat! It stands alone from Eye Candy however I recommend reading that as well so that you get to know the supporting characters. It was told from dual POV and is hot, hot, hot!
Skye is not having a good day as not only has she found out the man she was seeing was not who he appeared to be she not finds herself stuck in a broken elevator. She was feeling the stress until Devon appeared out of nowhere and helped pass the time in the most pleasurable way possible.
Devon was attracted to Skye from the moment he saw her so he was more than willing to help her get out of the elevator. The chemistry between them ignites and now he just needs her to realize that they aren’t destined for a fling but forever.
Skye’s sassy personality is a perfect match for the swoony Devon as they take us on a journey that is filled with romance and heat.
Skye just learned the new guy she’s dating has a fiancée because of course she always picks the losers. Her day isn’t getting any better when she gets stuck in an elevator but Devon climbs in to distract her and he’s very good at it. So good they’re practically inseparable afterwards. Their story is unique and fun and deliciously steamy.
Tough Cookie is the 2nd book in the Sugar and Spice Erotica Series and this story was just as hot! A bad day continues with a broken elevator and just as she’s screaming out frustrations then new building owner drops down into the elevator. This when Skye and Devon are introduced. This story moves fast and hot with these two. Even some familiar characters get to join into the fun as Skye learns to let go of some inhibitions. I’m still fanning myself. I really enjoyed Skye and Devon’s story. Tawna gave as a story with a lot of erotica and a love story.
Tough Cookie is sizzling hot read. I loved this quickie so much. This is Devon's book. You first meet Devon in Eye Candy. This is a steamy read. Skye is a med student and her bad day just got worse until Devon shows up. Their chemistry is hot and will have you fanning yourself at times. I love how adventurous this couple becomes. Devon and Skye just click from the very start. There are sweet moments to go right along with the sexy ones. I could not put this down.
This is a great hot steamy erotic read and a pager turner. Sex in an elevator? Who would have thought? Skye Cross is a hot headed ginger who just found out her bf she was dating has a fiancée. She is stuck in her condo’s elevator and let’s loose her anger. In jumps Devon Clark the building’s owner to her rescue and the romance begins. This is a different read from the books I have read of Tawna Fenske and I throughly enjoyed this read. I can’t wait for her next one Honey Do.
Book two in the Sugar & Spice series continues to bring the heat. When Skye gets trapped in her apartment building elevator, new building owner Devon decides to jump in to keep her pending panic at bay, and it doesn't take long for the sparks to begin flying. While the heat level rises, the two agree to a one time fling - but neither is willing to end things quite so quickly.
Tough Cookie is a smoking hot erotic romance. If you like it spicy, this is the book for you.
This was another very HAWT book in this series! Devon and Skye meet when she gets stuck in an elevator. Skye seems like a drama queen, but she has some emotional baggage to deal with. Skye isn't sure about Devon since he is so much older and she is coming off of a break up. Devon gives Skye room to get things figured out. Devon is a great guy and knows how to treat Skye. This was another really good book in the series!!
Med student, Skye, gets stuck in her apartment building elevator after discovering her supposed boyfriend was already engaged to someone else. Building owner, Devon, climbs down the elevator shaft to keep her company until the repairman can get it fixed. Sparks start flying quickly out of control in this spicy age gap contemporary erotic romance.
you thought book one was hot well this one gets even hotter if that's possible.
Skye and Devon heat up both the elevator and the bed. now this one gets better as you read it too. it's a short read but pulls you in from the start. I hope you enjoyed it just as much as I did
Elevator….nuff said. Throw in friends who are there for every need imaginable and you get a story full of erotica you weren’t expecting. An age gap where the man does everything in his power to take care of her. Shorter story so it’s a quick read that doesn’t disappoint. Ends with a HEA and an epilogue.
TOUGH COOKIE is one of Fenske's recent forays into more erotic romances. It's the perfect mental vacation for readers who are in the mood for some naughty romantic adventure in the boudoir (and an elevator!), so kick back and let Skye and Devon entertain you for a few hours. Don't forget your fan!
