The Book Needs Some More TLC

*****Spoilers*****

I wasn't sure if this book didn't sit well with me because the reasoning was puzzling or if it was because Aiden and Valentina were too much to one another and the actual building of affection was glossed over or if it was because of the plot holes that grew by leaps and bounds or if it was because the book ends without much of an ending. In any case, Valentina is delivered nude, wrapped and stuffed in a box to Aiden's porch. She was adopted at age 6 for some medical procedure since she was a sickly kid, but her parents were told she died. The book didn't say when it started but Valentina has been sexually molested since she was young and she's now 25. The note accompanying Valentina in her box says Aiden must record himself having sex with her and send the recording to a random email or else Aiden's niece dies. The problem? Valentina is Black and Aiden is Irish and has grown up in an environment that's racist. But not only that, he's sworn an oath to never do anything with a Black woman sexually. Oh well, because he can't let his niece be killed and besides that, his body is demanding what his mind can't get around. The two comply with the first and then another follow up note for Aiden to perform anal and make it hurt I believe. The two do the deed again and send the video but Aiden makes it clear that this one is the last. It works out as a send off video too because Valentina is frightened away from Aiden's house and they won't be able to make any soon. Not because Aiden told his equally racist father who will kill Valentina if he finds out, but because of some strange men that shoot at her and break into Aiden's house. The home of a mob right hand where his Irish family has lots of influence and power. From there, Valentina is given a ride by Aiden's sister who just happened to be in the neighborhood at the time Valentina was trying to run. From there, Valentina runs by hitching and eventually lands in DC where she finds a job watching rich kids and teaching one to improve their piano playing. She's later kidnapped by a half Italian illegitimate son of racist Pa, seems dad is a blazing hypocrite. Aiden finds Valentina at his brother's house and tells one of his other brothers to hide Valentina to get her away from danger. Aiden votes vows not to see her again but shows up at her place in Tennessee. We learn that Valentina is pregnant, she and Aiden will be getting married, they visited Valentina's biological mother, found out Valentina has a sister, and the book ends with Aiden receiving a call from one of his brothers that their father is dying. Aiden can't go home because that was part of his bargain with his father once Aiden decided to leave Boston and his family's illegal stuff there and go after Valentina.

Overall, I could see, I think where the author was trying to lead but there were certain things that were out of place. Valentina is delivered in a box where she's been for 36 hours. No discussion as to whether she needed to use the box for her body's waste disposal for either #1 or #2. When she gets out of the box, no water or other beverage is offered but perhaps the ball gag that was in her mouth helped with lubrication. Whatever the case, she gets no water from Aiden and was wrapped tightly like a pretzel so when he cuts her ribbons, her body must adjust. Despite this, he kisses Valentina and all I could do was cringe at what her breath must smell like. Aiden has her shower before anything else can happen which was a relief for me as a reader. There were more things like that in the book that weren't explained. At one point I was so confused as to who or what Roscoe Jr. was since Aiden's discussion at the beginning of the book is with his father and there was mention of Roscoe Jr. which made no sense where it was placed. Certain events needed to be put in better chronological order because some things happened before they should've and there were some duplicate lines. Aiden and Valentina get the I love yous in and it's weird and misplaced I felt. So as not to spend much more on this, I can't put my finger on what exactly was my problem but couldn't connect.

Details

Val and Aiden's story was interesting and engaging but the tiny discrepancies of the tiny details were distractions to me. One paragraph they're naked together then the next they're requesting clothes be removed. It was hard to believe that the sons had absolutely no interactions with black people before because I know first hand the diversity of Boston. It constantly bothered me that it took so long to find Tegan especially when Aiden kept claiming to be so powerful and running the city. It would've been nice to had a chapter on the Owen/Aiden confrontation to get some clarification. I'm nosey so I'll continue the series to see what happens until I get bored of it

Lack of substance

Bias opinion… didn’t get to page 100 because of the lack of substance in the book. Aside of grammatical errors, this book (up until where I stopped) was disturbing. I’m confused as to how readers enjoyed this book.

Much better start for this series

Out of the few books I've read by this very controversial author..... thus far this is the best one. Hear me out, the plot is well written, great introduction to characters, and the twists and turns are good. I wouldn't change a thing about this book. I'll see how the second book goes.

Okay Read!

The storyline was okay but I enjoyed the main characters. The story was unfinished too me because it was a whole lot of unanswered questions. I am hoping in the next book the question will be answered.

HOREIBLE BOOK!!!!! DO NOTTTT READ IT

1) this man is so racist and he never apolgoIes and his father calls her the n word and he doesn’t stand up for her

2) he says that she’s black so he can’t get his dick up and he took a vow to never touch a colored woman

3) the grammar and the way this book is written is so childish and so dumb imo

4) his entire family is racist “oh the family doesn’t define him” it literally does shut up

5) i think the author has a n word kink

in conclusion, this book has a lot of more flaws but im in class so i cant write abt it all so dont waste ur time reading it. maybe its not the author, ill try reading another book of hers, but this man is js hella racist and i think this book is to show that racist men can eventually change ? (crazy how it’s only once he sees her nipples and is amazed by how dark they are, and cs he was so curious to see what color her vagine was (????)) ok that’s it thank you bye

Good Lawd, I need an Aiden in my life. How can someone who is labeled a k*ller be so gentle and caring. Well, that’s Aiden for you. He receives a box on his front step and he has no clue as to the contents. When he opens it, he is in for a shock. Valentina, “lost” young woman who ends up being a present to an Irishman. I loved every bit of this story and couldn’t wait to see how it turned out for the two of them. There are some characters from previous stories and I LOVED that:-) Aiden is all about family and values, so coming for his is not the wisest option, as for all these HOT mafia men. This is a guaranteed HEA that will have you ready and wanting. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Meh

Can somebody…anybody…tell me WHY the cover models do not match the character descriptions??
Yes, she’s Black and he’s White, but that’s it. I automatically take off a star when this happens bc I feel as though the author has gone to so much trouble to describe her characters in detail, but didn’t care what the cover looked like.

This book had so much potential. It is not a dark romance, but does touch on some dark themes. Triggers of dubious consent and s*x trafficking. The insta-lust on Aiden’s part lead to insta-love. He had a taste of forbidden fruit and couldn’t get enough. It seems as though Valentina just fell for him bc he was the first guy to show her a bit of kindness. The book references plenty of violence, but we get no details.

Fairly Good

This story started out with one of the best mysteries and somewhere along the way it becomes something else. The writer gives us a leading lady that from the time she is a young girl until she arrives on Aiden's front porch is sold into slavery. She is kept in his house for protection and along the way they fall in love. I'm sorry I can't buy into it,because they both never make you believe it and them. There is something missing about this story, and I think its the steps to falling in love. This is a fairly good story, not bad just not as good as I was hoping.

Lax on details

Ms. Jasper was lax on explaining the disappearance/death of important characters. I'd like to know how Aiden found Owen and the Senator. Also, how he resolved the problem without getting caught by the law.
The last 10-20 percent meandered. Important plot points were glossed over while they focused on sexual activities.

I had thought the racism would be a side thing like the MMC’s family is racist but it’s front and center and literally all the MMC thinks about for multiple chapters so I had to DNF. “She’s black. So I should hate her” is just a little too extreme for me to enjoy the story.

I love this book!

I love how the author deal with today's issues in the news. Val found love through the pain that was a beautiful thing. The issues of sex trafficking and race. This book did a good job of show casing it. I did find some wording mistakes but that didn't slow down my reading. I want to know about the church involvement in the taken of Val from her family plus I want to know did the family get Tagen, a y help so she can function again in her life as a child, because Tagen was so Traumatized by her kidnapping that she was so close off not being a kid but more guarded and not sleeping at night. She need to be a kid but she was acting like an adult when she was around others. The author did a good job showing how something like that changes a child outlook on life. Valve outlook was true to what a lot black women and girls experience today when taken, that no one care that they are missing or try hard to look for them. That is sad all women lives should mean something no matter their color. This was a great start to a new series. I look forward to the next book a book these Irish American brothers that find love and get into trouble. Hope this help others to pay attention if see a child or woman acting strange in public or asking for help to do something about it because one never know it could be someone you know or love taken. The race part well that was not to bad. I was scare that it would be volatile but it wasn't the author did a good job of show casing it in the story. I will be waiting for next month to read the next story. As always happy reading😊.

Stockholm Syndrome is REAL!

*Read as an ARC and as the published draft

Trigger warning: This story contains the following sensitive subjects: sex trafficking, abduction, racism, and forced consent.

Aiden, comes home to a large package on his doorstep. Inside the package is Valentina, naked and tied up in ribbons and bearing a ransom message.

Aiden must have sex with Valentina and videotape the deed, or else his niece will be unalived.

Problem is: Aiden is a dyed in the wool race purist and Valentina's the last woman that he'd ever want to do that particular deed with. Yet that's exactly what he did.

It was a riveting story that keeps you a tad bit on edge waiting for the next shoe to drop. Aiden and Valentina eventually fall in love and overcome the obstacles they've faced.

Personally, I was annoyed with just how easily Valentina gave in, but considering the circumstances I didn't hold it against her.

I gave it four stars because I was hoping that at least Valentina would have made it to the end of the book without getting pregnant, and she came so close. It seem that it was the plot twist thrown in at the last minute.

Overall, the book was well written and enjoyable.

It was okay!

I do love erotica that don't gloss over the issues of racism but, for me at least, this was a lot.

I can seriously understand how the two mains ended up together because the ONLY way an BW would end up with Aiden would have to be through force. I liked Val's character but she's definitely a broken woman.

I also found some things just completely killed my suspension of belief. In this day and age who has sex with someone without a condom knowing damn well they were literally a sex slave?

His family is SO well connected but they can't trace where the box came from? Dude do you not have cameras all over you house?!? You're a literal mobster. I mean I get that it took awhile and they still found them but still. Also, seriously if Aiden is so vicious he should have just murdered his father 🤷🏿‍♀️.

Solid three stars though because the smut was pretty good and I do like that the issues of sex trafficking was a big part of the plot. Without I wouldn't have found the relationship between Val and Aiden believable. Also whether I like it or not people are often racist awful individuals. Aiden is lucky he found someone damaged enough to even entertain his crazy.

I’m unsure

I like the storyline. I am concerned about the proofreading. There’s too many contradictions. I don’t like that. Aiden is the oldest, and should have an alpha personality. But he seems weak and his brothers seem to have more of the alpha personality than him. I would have liked for Aiden to be more alpha and more in control as someone who is a part of a mafia family. There is a lot of backstory, which is fine, but it takes away a little bit from other parts of the book. I do like the character development if there was proofreading to get rid of the contradictions that I made in the book.

“I tried to stay away from you,” he continues. “I really did. But you… you have me wrapped around your little finger.”

I’ve seen this so many times, then I put this book in my queue on hold. I didn’t know how I would feel about it, I’m not a fan of rape or forced sex. I’m a really big fan of JJ so I should’ve known that she would come correct. In the world that we live in, we see this all too often and I love the character growth, how the hatred became a fierce love. Well done, this had me in my feelings for so many reasons, lol, reasons that I can’t say. Thank you for this beautiful but abrupt ending, I’m off to the next book to see what happens.

This book was written with a lot of curves that let to Aiden facing his racist idealism. At least it wasn't complete hatred that prevented him from feeling something for Beautiful Val that was left on his doorstep tied up with a fancy bow..

Now his father on the other hand is a whole nother level of hatred steeped in racism. Val learning who she is and where she came from was necessary for her too move forward with her life and to build a life with Aiden.

What I wasn't expecting was this cliffhanger... I don't like it 😭😳🥺

Don’t judge a book by its cover or title

I was very shocked how much I enjoyed this book. This author is an amazing writer and draws you in to the story with such shock and awe statements, but also real life events.

Aiden and Val are an amazing power couple. They have no idea that they’re a power couple, but they definitely are. Aiden is definitely the antihero. Val is the strongest damsel in distress I’ve ever met.

I’m excited to read more about the relationships and also the family. I’m hungry for more stories from this author.

Happy reading, and wine drinking.

What the heck?!

I got into this book deep, I love Irish mafia stories! The twists were good, I loved seeing Mickey and Rain make a visit. They are prolific baby makers, lol. I loved watching the way Aiden and Val evolved in their identities and their relationship. I’m not happy with the ending of this book!! I hate cliffhangers ugg, now I have to wait. I’m gonna do it though, I gotta know what’s gonna happen!

Amazing Book!!!

The main characters gave me so much angst, love, hope, and excitement. I can't wait to finish this family's series. If these two were that involved, I can just imagine the rest of the family. I wonder how they'll take to Val and Aiden getting married. On to the next book. Thanks for writing such steamy, intriguing, and engrossed stories.

Mafia Playmate

The story deals with sex trafficking, molestation and pedophilia I. The depiction of the main female character I liked, because it shows her talents in spite of living her life in captivity. Val and Aiden were put together in an audacious way. They found love even with Aiden's colorism issues.

An Unexpected Present

Aiden is the oldest son of five boys; and just as racist as his father. His father made him vow to never intermingle with other races. To keep his family pure white. A vow he’s determined not to break. But after opening up a box left on his front steps, Aiden realizes those vows will be broken.

An excellent read.

Another banger!

I've been holding off reading this series because I'm not a fan of Mafia books. But this one was pretty good! Aiden would do anything for Valentina. He truly loves her. And she truly loves him. On to the next. I need to see how this all plays out!
