Join Grace and Freddie on this new, polyamorous adventure.
I wasn't sure what to expect going into this. Overall I really enjoyed it. I appreciated the theme of women speaking up and fighting for their own choices.
Grace seems to be a well loved captain and runs a well maintained ship. Her crew trusts her with their lives, and she them. Freddie is a bit unsure of herself, especially given her feelings towards Grace, but throughout the story she navigates well and moves closer to finding herself. She really finds her voice in terms of where and who she feels is home.
Adventure on the high seas, found family and a sprinkle of romance, Duty and Monsters was a good read!
This was the first book I’ve read from JL Meyrick and I was not disappointed! Ship captain Grace and former princess Freddie are sent out on a mission together, leading them to loss, new romance and issues that arise when you mix love and business.
Trying to find their way in the world, learn their new roles, and creating their own dis functional family aboard the ship, these characters see a lot of personal growth and the storyline benefits greatly from it.
This isn’t a typical romance, it is a polyamorous romance with FF relationships. Please read any warnings before diving in.
This was my second book by J.L. Meyrick and I was not disappointed. She brought her A game in this sequel and I was freaking here for it! Duty & Monsters follows a poly group, with sapphic(FF) relationships. Plus pirates! You read that right! Pirates! One of our female main characters is Captain Grace Peregrine. I seriously love her so much! She is an amazing captain in my opinion and I’m sure her crew would agree. Then there’s Freddie. Things are pretty different for her now compared to how we first saw her in book 1. I loved watching both Grace & Freddie grow as characters as well as their relationship. We see new issues arise, which is to be expected when we mix business & pleasure together, a fine line between the two must be walked at times. I seriously cannot wait for the next book!
Freddie and Grace are helping rebuild the pirate community but someone wants them to deliver a special cargo back to Freedom's home town. A wonderful story of pirates life and to see if Freddie will go see her family. I hope the next book tells what happens and if Tiffany will keep her part of the bargain for peace.
