I don't know why the French don't like him, I think this man had guts noone else had. He managed to get the code written regardless of who was governing, it doesn't necessarily make him unethical... Obviously, Napoleon was a better leader to have whilst writing the code, but it takes guts to write about rights under a dictator, therefore, I think he was pretty misunderstood.
