Lyn grew up loving books. Her favorite night of the week was Friday night, when the Bookmobile came to her neighborhood in Illinois. She’d spend those two hours chatting with the driver of the Bookmobile and the librarian and making the big decision of the week — which books to check out! In those distant days, children were limited in how many books they could check out. Lyn could only take home six a week — and there were so many to choose from. Her favorites were Cotton in my Sack by Lois Lenski, The Little House series and the One of a Kind Family series. Later, she discovered Georgette Heyer’s Regency romances! This love of books led to a desire to write. Lyn won prizes in high school and college for her poetry and, not surprisingly, Lyn became a history and English teacher. When she became a mother, she gave up teaching, and while raising a son and a daughter, she began working on her first novel. Then she wrote her second and third. Long years of rejection followed — as it does for most writers. Finally in 1997, Lyn got "the call." Her first book, Never Alone, was chosen to appear in the first year of the new Love Inspired line. Lyn has written many articles on writing and the emerging Christian Booksellers Assoc. (CBA) fiction market. In 2006, Lyn's book, Chloe, is a finalist for the RWA's RITA, the highest award in the romance genre in the inspirational category. Now, Lyn spends her days writing books that show the power of divine as well as human love. Her nest is empty and she and her real life hero, her husband, have more and more time to spend together in their home on a lake in the lovely northwoods. And books are still dear to her heart.
Hannah’s Hometown Hero is a sweet story about two people who have some reasons to doubt that love will come along for them. I enjoyed reading as they worked together and got to know one another more each day. But could their attraction truly turn into a love that would last?
Guthrie, especially, carried a lot of doubts about ever finding love. He also had some anger that had been building up for awhile. He had to work through these issues and give them over to God so that he could live the life that God wanted to bless him with. This book was a nice start to a new series set in a fun and close-knit small town.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Hannah’s Hometown Hero by Lyn Cote is a contemporary Christian romance novel that centers on Hannah, a food column writer, and Guthrie, the carpenter in charge of building her parents’ home in their new town.
Guthrie was gloomy and brooding through most of the book, and it felt like the Hannah had to drag everything out of him. It felt unrealistic that she would fall in love with a man who fell apart emotionally whenever something bad would happen, all with the perfect words. She never really deals with her own romantic past, either; she just tells him about it. She doesn’t really grow throughout the story—she’s irritatingly perfect.
There was also an introduction to a new character in the third act that feels a bit off, kind of like a cheat. I understand it was necessary to wrap up Guthrie’s storyline, but mentioning this character earlier would ease the abruptness of the introduction.
Proofreading perspective: There were lots of spots where the author forgot to use italics when writing out a though, and also forgetting to switch back to regular type when going back into narration. It was distracting. There were also unnecessary commas sprinkled throughout the book.
This is a cute story, but not necessarily remarkable. I give this book three stars.
Hannah’s Hometown Hero by Lyn Cote The Preacher’s Daughters Series Book One Hannah Kirkland went to Petite, Wisconsin, to help her parents move into their new home. Her father would be pastoring the church there. After some health issues, she wanted to see them safely settled. Unfortunately, her first day in Petite didn’t go well. Nothing was as she had thought. Guthrie Thomas had much to do, but the rainy summer wasn’t helping him. First, he was behind on building a home because the church roof needed immediate attention. And then, the pastor’s daughter insisted on helping him. And he was a man who preferred to work alone. I loved this story. A heartwarming and inspirational story of leaving the past…and the anger…behind and starting with a clean slate. A story where second chances are there for those who want them. https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
Somehow, as the middle daughter, the responsibility to help her parents falls on Hannah. Not that there was any real need, but her career allowed for some freedom of movement. Besides, she was very ready to leave the past behind.
This faith-filled book reminds the reader to be open for new and exciting opportunities as you follow that the Lord wants you to do. Hannah’s career takes on some different options, some of which will have you laughing out loud and others which will make you question her willingness to help. Read on as you realize that with God’s help, people can change.
This early copy of The Preacher’s Daughter Book One was received through BookFunnel. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.
Hannah takes the responsibility to see that her parent's new house is ready for occupancy. So she is surprised when she arrives in town to discover there is only a foundation. Guthrie, the builder, is working on the roof of the church because it's a more critical job! Really? That's not what Hannah thinks. So she takes to "helping" Guthrie so he can get to work at her parent's house. That causes conflict between her & Guthrie. Then there are his 2 aunts that are quite the characters. They add much to the story. This is such a fun book with the lesson that to move forward in life you have to forgive people especially when you don't agree with their decisions. I received a copy from the author. This is my voluntary opinion & review.
An it was all came together because of lost kitten? Right off you meet Hannah’s sisters there is one that comes off as being not such a nice person but my opinion did change. As this first chapter gets going oh my but so many can of worms were opened. When Hannah goes to Petite Portage she did not realize that so much would change for her. It is a very good story full of faith, love, and hope but there is also anger and pain too. The aunts were awesome but Guthrie and Hannah were the stars. It is beautifully written and one you really should not miss reading. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Enjoyed seeing story unfold as Hannah who writes books and does food blogging. Will she be able to get over her disappointment of her last boyfriend and knowing it was best thing they had broken up. Will she be able to see what is happening with her parents new home? Only concrete is down for floor. Her parents have come to Petite, Wisconsin to take up a church pastorate. Another great story by Lyn Cote. This was a free book for me but this didn’t influence my review. Thank you Lyn. I appreciate Christian influence in the story.
Hannah's Hometown Hero is a Christian, heartwarming, inspirational romance. I would like to give this book 10 stars but, of course, that is not allowed. The characters and plot in this well written book really resonated with me. Hannah found a much richer life when she turned everything over to God. Guthrie's aunts add a very special touch to this awesome book. Guthrie reminded me of someone who has a servant's mind. You really do not want to miss this book. I could not put it down.
This book gave all the feels! Guthrie and Hannah are thrown together with several difficult situations to overcome. Thankfully, Hannah, being a pastor's daughter, has enough experience with being supportive and counseling and praying, that she isn't scared off easily when things get tough. Take a journey to see how Hannah and Guthrie band together to take care of whatever comes their way!
We are introduced to a small farming town with a new pastor and his three daughters. Lots of great characters, including two eccentric great-aunts, who are wiser than anyone gives them credit for. The first daughter in town, Hannah, comes with some baggage she needs to let go of. But she meets several townspeople who also are carrying some long-term pain. It was all nicely handled by Ms. Cote. Looking forward to the next in the series.
"Hannah's Hometown Hero" is a great story of betrayal, second chances, forgiveness, reconciliation, and romance. Lyn Cote creates memorable characters that you will truly care about. The two great aunts are hilarious. This is a fun book to read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but all of the opinions I have expressed are my own.
Hannah’s Hometown Hero, was a great book. She is the preacher’s daughter. She comes to town to help her dad and mother. They have a contract for a new house. There has been lots of rain and he says that he will let them out of the contract, but they are still in the motel. Hannah decides to help him on the church roof. There is much forgiveness! Jeanette Stracner
It was a good read. Out going, understanding Hannah must push the contractor Guthrie to build her parents retirement. The first pages were confusing because the story just seemed to stop. A blank page then moved into a different direction, at times it felt like you have missed something. After about 60 pages it smoothed out with like normal breaks.
This was a good story, seeing how Hannah and Guthrie both had to work through issues in their lives to come out stronger on the other side, together. I'd enjoy reading more of the books in this series.
I really enjoyed Gurthie and Hannah's story. A story of courage, faith, family and second chances. Lyn weaves faith throughout the book. I recommend this book and author.
Guthrie Thomas was a contractor in Wisconsin. He also was in a church that needed a new roof. His pastor had a daughter, Hannah Kirkland, who came to town. She ends up helping him work. Great story! Jeanette Stracner
What a sweet story! I love Hannah's faith, her ever turning to Papa God, like she is always in a conversation with Him. And Guthrie! What an endearing manly man!
This is, indeed, a heartwarming story. I enjoyed the realistic development of the relationship and the contrast between the posh clothes and the small town clothes. Faith filled, which I really appreciate, and lovely descriptions of the ocean.
This was a tender story of forgiveness with characters who seemed real. I liked the references to God and faith. Prayer changes things and reunites families.
