I might not wear a cape or a mask, but as an agent for the SMU—Special Monsters Unit—I am plenty heroic. Most of the time. Accidents tend to happen a lot around me since I’m what they call a null witch. Someone who basically murders magic. Sounds cool, right? Not when it causes cursed folks to explode—literally—in my face. Gross. Not to mention I hate shopping for new clothes. Still, I love my job even if it is dangerous. Other parts of my life could use some help, though. My parentage is still a mystery. The guy I liked, well, let’s just say things got complicated. The boss hired someone new and annoying, and did I mention hot? Oh, and there appears to be ancient ruins under our town. I’d be more excited if the Cryptid Historical Society hadn’t shut us out of our own investigation. Whatever. There are plenty of monsters to go around in Nexus. Secrets too. Time for me to cause trouble in the name of good.
Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .
I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.
Hidden Monster Ruins By Eve Langlais This continues book #1, where Ruby is working and learning to be part of the team of monster killers. Great interactions, actions, and characters. A werewolf type creature is on the team and has a crush for her. On to the next book.
So the next book is out when??? Loved this installment, it keeps you hopping wondering who is good, or bad, or maybe a bit of both? New characters join the fray, existing characters have some issues, and Ruby is the touchstone for it all. And then, and then, that ending had me yowling in shock, because I never saw that coming!
Ok book I really enjoyed the first book in this series but this book was not as great. Ruby is now going on more assignments with her team to fight the monsters and seems to be doing more with her null magic. There’s now a new guy who’s hot but irritating with his arrogance. She meets someone who’s just like her and he says she could do so much more with her magic. He’s willing to teach her but she keeps fighting him on it. She doesn’t trust him. It got a little irritating for me since she’s confused and frustrated majority of the time but not really pushing hard for answers. I think people would be fine with this though, as it’s good character development. I just personally don’t like to see my MC’s struggle so much. There’s interesting developments in the plot and what’s going on in her town, Nexus. She’s not sure who to trust and who not to. The ending revealed a big plot twist that makes me really want to read the 3rd and final book in this series. I also think all her confusion will be revealed and the character development she needed to go through will end soon.
I still am glad I listened through with this book and plan to listen to the next book in the series.
This is the second series I've read this year where the first books leads you to believe one character is the love interest, but then the author does a complete 180 in book two. I do not enjoy this. It always makes me think the author didn't have the series planned out and changed things midstream. I don't like wasting time getting invested in a character for him to suddenly become a dick out of nowhere.
While I've read Langlais previously, this is the first series I'm reading in this world. Earth's Nexus stands alone nicely and the series is reminiscent of Helen Harper's City of Magic. In addition to the love interest swap, I also wasn't thrilled with the revelations regarding the heroine's parentage. The Big Bad was excellently done, but the parentage stuff, again, felt a little convenient and hand-wavy.
In this second book of the series it continues with Ruby's job as a null witch. Now she is faced with the chance to learn how to control and use her abilities by a professor who also has the same abilities. Ruby doesn't know who to trust at this point, the professor or the Raven who each claim the other has nefarious reasons. The plot only thickens and the danger gets worse as the book finally reveals a traitor. Wow! Didn't see that one coming!!! Can't wait until the next book!
Ruby and her team have decided to check out the pastor house because when it sank into a hold they didn’t get a chance to dee if there was more tunnels under it. But when they do they encounter giant ants. That’s the last thing Ruby remembers being swarmed by they till she wakes up in a old cabin with the professor that wants to teach her how to control her powers. But she s arrogant she needs to learn a lesson. So enjoy the read and see all she must go through to learn. On to the next!!
I was so happy to find a 2nd in the series when I finished the first!
More monsters are showing up in Nexus, some causing trouble, but others just being themselves. All of them are keeping the team busy. While Ruby hasn't found out any more about her family, she is learning more about her talent. While that seems good, the fact that the monsters seem to be out to capture her. Not the team, her. Oh, and she gets a new pet!
Eve continues to amaze! As we learn more about Ruby and the situation in Nexus, there are plenty of laughs and monsters to keep your interest. Warning, this book ends on a cliffhanger-but you don't mind it because you become so invested in Ruby and her co-workers!
DNF As with the first book in this series the humor is chessy. The story repeats too much of the first book and after a while it gets old. The MC love interest is annoying.
This is a story about discovery. Finding out about what she can do, about who she is as a person. Maybe even who she can trust. It does leave you wanting for more.
Eve Langlais just keeps getting better and better. Hope this series never ends! Will the wolf smarten up? Is the raven good or bad??? Can’t wait to find out 😍😍
