GLUTTONY

Rate this book
Everett Peters is a gutsy retired boxer whose guileless gluttonous tendencies grow chronic as he battles guilt and grief following a gut-wrenching betrayal. Apryl Wilde is a tender-hearted celebrity personal trainer who thrives off temperance and is trying to rebuild her life after experiencing the betrayal of a traitorous pair she trusted and still has ties to. Failing in love was Apryl and Everett’s reality. Falling in love was the last thing either of them wanted to do again. But when Everett and Apryl cross paths, they quickly realize love is the change they both have been craving.

EVERETT PETERS

“I was simply trying to escape an unpleasant situation when I returned home to New York City. I set my focus, the vision very clear - prepare for a special appearance that would help me start a brand new life post-retirement from boxing. Love was nowhere on the brain. Like… at all. It couldn’t be. I’d just experienced the worse betrayal of my life, something I couldn’t really be too upset over because I was once the villain in many other stories. But that didn’t make what happened to me hurt any less, and I believed that hurt was too dark to let love in. Love should not have ever found me again with where my head was at. But it did, through a woman named Apryl Wilde. And I can’t help but to feel like I have no choice but to fumble the bag to protect my future and my heart… and hers too.”

APRYL WILDE

“I was simply trying to do my damn job and get my life back on track after being backstabbed by people I believed I could trust. The heartbreak I experienced was crushing. Cry every morning before I started my day, level of crushing. And what was worse was I couldn’t even move past it like any other failed relationship because one villain in my story still had ties to my career. So, when I agreed to do a favor concerning Everett Peters, I set my focus, the vision very clear - to help him reach his fitness goals while freeing myself from the shackles of my past. I expected nothing more, nothing less. And not to fall in love, that’s for damn sure! I mean… I’d been swimming - more like wading - in the dating pool, but I was just trying to get my feet wet. I wasn’t at all prepared to find love, much less get drunk off it. But here I was, looking Everett Peters in the eyes and seeing more than just my way out of career misery. I saw my future. But I think I’m way too guarded to let love in as I should… for good reason. And I’m not sure my heart can handle another disappointment.”

Gluttony is likely the one sin most don’t consider a sin at all. And though it is associated with eating, this sin has less to do with consuming food and more to do with over-consuming and indulging in anything that leads to self-destruction.

Can the virtuous beauty, who thrives off temperance, find it within herself to let her guard down to satiate the appetite of the gluttonous one with a dish best served from the heart, love?

*This book contains profanity and sexually explicit content. GLUTTONY is a standalone and the fifth book in the Love is Cure, Vol. 1 - Vices & Virtues series. Seven books makes up this series. WRATH is next…

Brookelyn wrote her first short story when she was a sophomore in high school. Back then she discovered how using her experience as a teen living in Brooklyn to create romantic shorts was just as exciting to her as retail shopping and going on dates. After starting her first semester of college two years later, Brookelyn’s creative writing became more of a hobby and something to do to escape the stress of midterms and finals. Now in her 30s as a freelance writer, penning short stories and novellas is her everything. While her experience with writing has evolved for the better, her undying love for creating fiction remains unchanged. Brookelyn's focus is on creating contemporary women's fiction with characters based in urban settings. Her stories chronicles the emotional journeys and erotic experiences of women today through her characters and the scenarios they're thrown into.

The motivation behind her brand of writing has a lot to do with what she discovered storytelling provided for her - an escape. Her goal with her work is to create characters and urban worlds that offer a great escape for fiction readers looking for a break from the daily grind of adulting and who prefer to relax with good books and short stories. When she’s not freelancing, doing yoga, or showing her husband and toddler lots of love, she can be found sitting at her computer desk, with her legs folded, and a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine) at arm’s reach as she types or edits her latest short or novella.

You were not kidding about this being a slow burn, and I almost gave up on it. But, so glad that I didn't! When one thinks of gluttony it is often food. This read was so much more than that! My heart broke for Everett when he happened upon those tapes! Like what the hell kind of woman does ish like that, then holds on to the evidence of her wrong doings? 🤯🤬 He fell into the trap of overeating and drinking in excess, as that is his go to when he feels things are out of his control! With a push from his sister Eryn, he decides that a change of scenery will do him some good. Apryl! Poor thing just wanted to find some companionship after heartbreak. But, honey she was not only picking frogs, them damn men were demons! 😂 I felt bad for her, but those dates she went on were hilarious! Everett and Apryl were immediately attracted to the other, when they made eye contact in Meki's gym. But, the fun began when Apryl was tasked at training him, to get toned and rid him of those 23 pounds he gained. They were oil and water, and it was not looking good for either of them. Then Apryl came up with this unconventional idea, to put them on an equal playing field; and the magic began! I really enjoyed learning of heartbreak, the emotional tolls and seeing vulnerability through male eyes. Both Everett and Apryl needed time to get over the trauma of their past relationship, and their friendship and training did just the trick. However, they found themselves in something else neither was prepared for love! I wanted to fight them both at times, as they were so damn stubborn, but I guess I understood their reasoning. They fit together so well once they got over all their ish! Now what is Eryn's deal with New York, and what did Simeon really do? Looking forward to her story! Good job! 👍👍👍

💗💗

Apryl and Everett’s story was different but also resonated with me the most out of this series. When I think of the meaning of gluttony, I automatically think of binge eating. However, Brookelyn showed that there’s more than one way for people to have those tendencies. This book was a slow burn through and through but I stayed the course and loved the growth of the characters.

Book five in the Brookelyn Mosley's Vices & Virtues series released today, and if you haven't started, I highly recommend you do. The title of the book is Gluttony, and I was interested to see how Brookelyn would spin this, and let's just say she did us well. In this installment we're introduced to Everett and Apryl. Their introductions in the story are nothing short of entertaining and I knew from the very first chapter this book would get five stars from me. When you think of Gluttony, you think of overeating, which does in fact happen in this book, but I feel like there were several spins on the title in this book, which I'll explain in my review. "Food has always been my escape. A mood lifter. I got excited at the thought of eating something good. Eating was an amplifier at every moment. I coped with it, celebrated with it, sometimes included it when making love."

Everett is a newly retired boxer. Focused on his life after retirement, he envisions settling down with his girlfriend, Brielle. The universe will always show you signs when things aren't for you, and let's just say the universe pulled no punches with Everett's sign. To cope with his sudden life change, he did what he always did: eat and work out. Everett was not only gluttonous with his food intake, but with his workouts as well. When depression hits him hard, he lays off on the working out and only eats, a lot. So much so, that he needs to hire a trainer to get him back in shape. When his original trainer, Meki, has to take a leave of absence from the gym, he gets bounced to Apryl. There's no denying her beauty or her booty, but Everett isn't sure she's the right woman for the job. "I'm not all that confident you can train me in a way I need to be trained." Her feistiness and unwillingness to back down has him intrigued, forcing him to see where this actually goes. "I see Ashley Banks from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air when I look at you. You two are like twins. Same sweet, innocent face. Not intimidating at all. If she got mad on the show, it was adorable, sometimes laughable."

Apryl is a celebrity trainer that's on the hunt to find a new love. The dating app she's using is letting her down miserably. Not only is her personal life not going well, but her work life isn't doing so well either. Her brand is attached to her former celebrity best friend, and now she has to train one of the biggest dickheads she's ever encountered. "'The media have tied my career to a woman who has become the bane of my existence, and I can't go another day being linked to her.' I shook my head. 'Not a career I worked hard as hell to build from the ground up when the people closest to me thought it would be the biggest mistake in my life to do it.'" When her and Everett agree on a plan that helps him along with her, they realize that their irritation towards each other isn't really irritation, but attraction. "Yup, and the fact she hasn't cussed your ass out for being a stubborn brute yet proves you're not the only one who has a little crush."

There's no denying Brookelyn's knack to pen an impeccable love story. As time goes on, and I read more of her work, I fall deeper in love with her pen game and her stories. This book wasn't any different. This story started off with a bang and held a steady pace of drama throughout the entire book. Everett was a glutton with food, exercise, and a slight glutton for punishment. Apryl was a boss chick that wasn't willing to tone down her accolades to make any man feel comfortable, earning her a spot on my book bestie list. This was a five star read for me and I can't wait to read the rest of this series

This was a slow burn. I wanted to know if Apryl and Everett ended up being together so I finished it. I did like when them together though. I understand closing one door to open another so to say. But I couldn’t get why Everett needed to give Bree a chance, to support his own decision. 3.5-4 ⭐️

Gluttony (The Love is Cure, Vol. 1 Vices & Virtues book 5) by Brookelyn Mosley is about retired boxer Everett Peters and fitness trainer Apryl Wilde. After a devastating blow by his girlfriend, Everett spirals off the deep end by binge eating his feelings away. A comforting call from his psychotherapist mother and a community opportunity encourages him to return to his hometown Brooklyn. His eagerness to return to top form leads him to an exclusive gym where he meets Apryl. Apryl and Everett have an instant attraction, but Everett isn’t looking for a relationship. As fate would have it, it’s up to Apryl to train Everett which he’s not very receptive to. But baby is the tension thick whew! They had some training foreplay 🫦 Apryl has to use an unorthodox method to get Everett in shape but in doing so they get to know one another and let their guards down. Everett is nasty in the best way possible. The way he loves to indulge in Apryl 💦 Keep in mind although these two get down and dirty this book is a slow burn. I love the positive parenting Apryl and Everett experience even though they are both characters in their 30’s. I think it’s important to represent Black parents listening to and supporting their adult children. The growth both characters underwent is beautiful. Even though Apryl wasn’t the one with the vice she learned a lot and grew. I will say that my chest ached at certain parts, Everett you know what you did 🥺. Brookelyn Mosley did it again! If you haven’t started this series yet you’re missing out!
P.s. I can’t wait to read Everett’s younger sister Eryn’s story!

CW~ mentions child death, eating disorder & binge eating

Definitely a slow burn but it kept me curious from the beginning because I didn’t know how Apryl and Everett was going to be in close proximity to fall in love but hunny from the first time they laid eyes on each other the chemistry was brewing… I loved them both for each other despite their horrible past with relationships they made it look easy to find love unexpectedly and I was here for that… I’m really enjoying this series and I can’t wait for more

Love T. K.O.!!!
Gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins. However, it’s not just overeating, but it can also include drinking, lustful thoughts and behaviors, and any other unhealthy obsession resulting in short-lived satisfaction. What started out as a professional relationship between a personal trainer and a retired boxer looking to get back in shape…slowly morphs into friendship, a little food porn, a few pounds, and an attraction that would not be denied. While bonding over past hurt and betrayal, Apryl and Everett soon realize that rules are made to be broken. And once they cross the line, things quickly go from strictly business to mind blowing pleasure! Loved the reversal of the narrative, which made for an interesting twist to witness the male vulnerability displayed by EP! This is the most erotic read from BK that I've read thus far, and I’m seeing a trend that lends toward more freaky deaky to come!

Captivating

Something dedicated to the saints the sinners is always welcomed in my library first of all. From the very first page I knew it would be amazing. It was slow burn but that made it really good. Firstly I would like to address Brielle. That girl is clearly unwell and needs to be committed. Everett’s character was flawless. I like how Brookelyn wrote his character. It gave insight to how men are really affected by a breakup. We don’t see that often just how women are affected so that was quite refreshing. Men are almost always perceived to be unemotional creatures but the truth is they are very emotional creatures and Everett was the epitome of that. His vulnerability was palpable. His admission of how he felt about what Brielle was clearly painful but he needed to acknowledge it. I also loved Apryl’s character from the very beginning but that app did her dirty. Those dates had me screaming. Would I love most about how you write is that you always give us little updates on characters from other books. I love how connected all the stories are. And seeing Cadence and Meki was so great. Cadence has grown up and I love it. Giving that man a baby and all I would’ve never thought but I love it. The book was so smooth. I loved how their friendship and became more bit by bit. Their sex was so sensual as well. Wow gave me chills. It also became very clear to be that Everett is a pleaser. I understood why Apryl wanted to attend therapy but I also felt as if she should’ve spoken to Everett one on and get to know him and where he wanted things to go considering they were doing so well when playing twenty questions. Apryl “I have a house” Wilde 😂😂😂😂 had to do therapy though just like she had to use he mother’s key after she told her not to. The minute I saw how the therapy session went I knew things would go down hill from there especially since they like each other so much and it was clear as day that she was afraid and she started making decisions from a place of fear instead of rationality. However that’s quite normal she’s human. When characters are written like this it makes the story so much more authentic. I love it. Seeing Apryl figure what I knew immediately after her therapy session suggestion was so adorable. I loved it and she was so ready to sacrifice so much for him. It made me a little teary eyed. I love the relationship Everett and Liz has it’s refreshing seeing how well they communicate as a mother and son. Liz is a wise one I love her. This story has some of the coolest supporting characters. Brielle makes me sick. Honestly I shouldn’t want to fight a fictional person this much but I’m right there with Eryn. Brielle thinking she is a prize sent me. I was hollering. She’s delusion as hell. I can survive without seeing her character ever again. I see why she is the way she is though because father is just as delusional as she is. The apple really doesn’t fall far from the tree but moving on to better and more important events in the story. One part I found absolutely hilarious is her using Luna like that. That was crazy but adorable. Speaking of crazy Eryn is a certified looney tune I love. She’s definitely sister of the year. Chapter 34 at the dinner table 😂😂😂😂. That steak was definitely the straw that broke the camel’s back. Everett gave her dust and I was so proud. Everett and April are kismet. Two people that were both hurt becoming irrevocably bonded not pain but in love. This book had the perfect ending. It was so beautiful. Their love story is absolutely amazing and beautiful. This was a well written and detailed story I enjoyed every second of it.

Loved It

Loved it from beginning to end. Loved how Apryl did a turnaround after Everett was so open in their session. They way she kept putting it, I was expecting what she was expecting too, lol. Loved the progress of their relationship throughout with and without the other. Daddy Peters stepped in with that coward quote, and I loved it. I've never heard that before this book. I'm excited to get to sis story cause I was like Everett on that. Cause girl if you don't tell us what happened. This one is runner up to my fav Envy. She has never disappointed with her stories.

It took a minute

The author warned me to be patient and to take my time with this story. At one point, I was not sure I could take all the activities surrounding the food and pain Everette endured at his girl Bree's hand. Bree was not a good person, and her excuses for her poor actions were unforgivable. The part about Everette and how the title fit the story was unfathomable. Apryl, on the other side, was a beautiful soul who fit Everette to a tee. And this story was indeed a slow-burn love story. Apryl and Everett endure a lot, but please stay locked into the story; stick with it; you will be glad you stayed—a good story.

Gluttony

Oh my this book was filled with so many gems. The important of self care, mental health, body imaging and vices we use to deal with issues instead of the real issue. The way Apryl helped Everett was more than she or he bargain for. Oh did I say a boxer is involved, I love boxers 😉.

Great book!

This was a great read and I loved that it was long. The length wasn't filled with unnecessary fluff but details that actually contributed to the story. There were a lot of good quotes about loving yourself as well.

With his mom being a therapist, I wish there was more acknowledgement that he had disordered eating or at the very least an unhealthy relationship with food. It was addressed but not as a mental health issue. I felt like his issue required therapy seeing he's been doing since he was a child. Not every thing is classified as a traditional eating disorder but what he was dealing with was very much a mental health issue in the realm of ED and I wish that was discussed because it's a huge stigma. Also, is his mom an LMHC or a psychologist? He said she only had a masters but psychologist have doctorates.

I'm very excited for the next book and getting updates on past characters. I also like that you did the character cameo so people can go back and read those stories instead of having to search for them.

I recommend reading it.

Okaaay!

This book started out really slow, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was great to see the man’s point of view on having your heart broken in a relationship. Everett and Apryl’s relationship was so pure and refreshing. I was worried for a minute thinking that Everett would go back to his ex because of the deal that her father gave him, but he realized that all money ain’t good money. I also got caught up with Erin and the deal with her. The book was well written, flowed well and definitely worth reading. I can’t wait to see how Ms. Mosley is going to tackle the next sin in this series.

Slow Burn!

Apryl and Everett...wow!!! Talk about how one move on past lies, deceit and betrayal to find love again. This was that story! Gluttony was hard to read about but the transformative power of unconditional love made it worth the read. This author always delivers in her protagonists but can we also acknowledge that she gives us the antagonists we absolutely love to hate. I am sad that I have to wait on Eryn story but also satisfied for the entire series. This author knows how to craft a beautiful love story. I am a fan.

I didn't think I was going to like this book because the two main characters didn't even meet until I was about 30% in the book . However, once they did I felt the connection I missed in the last two books.
