Rate this book
The small north Georgia community of Granite County is devastated when star high school quarterback Adam Carson's body is found in the Anatoola River. The parents, Franklin and Ginger Carson, reluctantly accept Sheriff Henry Kendrick's determination that the death was an accident, but they have questions. How did Adam get to the river, and why was he there? Family friend Dan McKenzie, having recently resigned from his public affairs job at the Pentagon, calls on old college buddy and investigative reporter Kris Keller to help fi nd answers for the Carsons.

As the search for answers about Adam's death begins, Granite County Detective Kennedy Fleming is tasked with finding the killer of Reggie Robinson, a local small-time drug dealer. McKenzie and Keller ask Sheriff Kendrick for cooperation in investigating Adam's death, and concerned their snooping might harm his re-election bid, he agrees to let Fleming, in whom he has little confidence because she is a female and a rookie detective, be their liaison with the sheriff 's office. Even though she is involved with McKenzie and Keller in the investigation into Adam's death, Fleming's top priority is identifying Reggie Robinson's killer, and her search is aimed at two ruthless drug peddler Buster and local drug kingpin Lester Shimkus.

Kris Keller has to abandon his work in Granite County because he is called back home to Shrimpers Bay, Florida where his infant son has been taken in a slider crime. Keller has to deal with a sinister character he calls Deep Voice and plays a dangerous game to get his son back. Fleming and McKenzie put their own lives in danger as they uncover the secrets behind the deaths of Adam Carson and Reggie Robinson.

Is there a connection between what has occurred in Granite County and the abduction of Keller's son in Florida? That is just one of the mysteries that must be solved in this latest suspense thriller from Gary Watson.
