The Warlocks have really done it this time! Kinsley and Jeremy delve into a bizarre occurrence at Nissa's residence, where undead pets are rising from their graves, and a perplexing vortex threatens to consume everything in its path.
Thorn is summoned to examine a disturbance at a decrepit mansion, where he stumbles upon the lifeless body of a paranormal investigator. Though he detects a formidable force within the mansion, its origin eludes him. Kinsley has her hands full dealing with the Nissa situation and assisting Thorn with the murder investigation at the mansion. Can she save Meri from his fate and solve the crime one spell at a time?
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
If you haven't read the previous books, STOP, go back and read them. This series contains ongoing story lines.
At the end of the last book, Kinsley can't find Meri anywhere. He disappeared when she found the murderer and hasn't come back. Nissa tells her Meri's dead and is never coming back and claims she killed Lilith as well.
This book opens as a furious Kinsley goes to confront Nissa about Meri and Lilith. Nissa isn't there and someone must have called 911 because Jeremy shows up. After she explains what's going on, he's about to take her home and continue the investigation with Thorn when a woman screams.
The bad feeling Kinsley had turns to reality as zombie pets convene on the neighborhood. Just as the ground is shaking, and a cyclone is forming, Kinsley hears a voice, Meri, and she knows she has to do something to stop this.
She manages to stop it and at the end passes out, waking to Bonkers sitting on her chest and her mom and Thorn hovering. After plying her with food, Kinsley says she wants to go back to Nissa's. She heard Meri there and also want to figure out what the warlocks have done to make everything go so crazy here.
They first check the cemetery across the street for any signs of human zombies being raised. Then after some consideration decide to go to Lilith's house instead of checking the other cemetery.
Seeing Meri in spectral form hurts the heart, but at least he's here.
Thorn gets a call to the old, abandoned mansion in town. Kinsley doesn't' want him to go but he insists and promises to call if he needs her.
This murder of a paranormal investigator reminds Thorn of another case, and he secretly hopes this will stop others from coming to investigate the old homes here. He begins to collect evidence, first the broken lock near the back door, next a muddy footprint, followed by a bloody handprint.
As he continued searching the mansion, it got cold, and he got shivers up his spine even before he is thrown to the ground by a powerful force. Before he could be hurt Thorn finds the salt he carries and throws it at the ghost as it begins to attack. Needless to say he gets out of there and calls Kinsley.
While Kinsley and Thorn are gone investigating the murder, Brighton is watching the girls when Erica Draven from the paranormal investigators group shows up. To top it off that's when the Zombies attack, that attack is crushed by an old woman who turns out to be the real Lilith. Seems Nessa and her demon made a crucial mistake and brought her back. But in doing so they hexed the full moon, hence the chaos. They'd get a break, but they'd have to fix it before the next full moon.
While Erica convinces Brighton she's innocent the evidence of her driver's license under the body, tells another story and she must be arrested.
Needless to say there are many twists and turns in this story, between Nessa and the murder there is never a dull moment.
Some difficult decisions involving Nessa and some not so difficult ones involving Meri. All of which will have consequences and lead to another OMG ending.
This is a slightly dark but entertaining yet paranormal cozy mystery series. Great cast of characters in an entertaining storyline. Kinsley is the head of her Kevin in Coventry. She has been battling a warlock family for time now. The warlock was placed there by the paranormal affairs bureau supposedly as a refugee. If this woman in her families been trying to destroy the witches and cause problems since they arrived. Now in The Ultimate battle is upon them. Along with that there’s been a murder at a haunted mansion nearby. Re-done and see what adventures in trouble Kinsley her husband the sheriff and the rest of the family can get into this time. It’s like a darker twist than most paranormal mysteries. Always entertaining and a good read.
Kinsley and Lilith are forced to fight with the forces Nissa called up that siphoned power from the coven, and raised dead pets and others.
Is Meri a victim of the dark actions of Nissa? Will Kinsley, her girls and Thirn, and her leader's of the Coven survive the struggles? Will the mostly absent until now magical enforcement bureau help or hinder?
Divisive forces put the Coven members in further peril as the battles to save Coventry and the balance between life and death in the world rage on.
Better than usual. Good story. I was pleased not to find any typos. That might be because I listened to it more than I actually looked at the pages. She did use snared once, which is a great improvement. Thorne may be in trouble, as is Kinsely. The cliffhangers are an okay way to tease the reader into the next in the series, I check it out as soon as I finished this one. Hope for no typos or boring repetitions of modifiers. Recommend!
Kinsley really doesn’t try for anarchy. She just can’t avoid it. Especially with Lilith helping her. While dealing with the warlock was necessary, bringing Meri back is debatable. They both have many consequences to live through. PAB is now knocking at her door and she has been removed as the coven leader. PAB can go suck it! Her removal is more than just.
It only gets better!!! There are twists and turns, valid explanations, left field answers (the "Say What!!" kind), and gripping moments where your eyes can't read fast enough!! LOL A truly enjoyable series that keeps going and giving. This ones another cliffhanger! Get ready!! Enjoy!!!
Arc review I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. In Coventry Kingsley is trying to deal with Nessa .while there is a murder at the letting house that needs to be solved. Awesome story
Its a good read, granted didn't think the book series would be so much. Seriously doe she's kinda all over the place and its like she still doesn't know much about magic even when she got all those books around her.
Another murder! Meri is killed. I believed this familiar could not die. Who could kill him? Kinsley faces some very serious challenges. This book had me very worried multiple things happening all at the same time. Great read.
They Hexed the Moon! It's a really good mystery, quite involved. Revelations and change abounds. I can't wait to read the next book of the Familiar Kitten Mysteries series.
Kinsley and her aunt Lilith face the worst enemy but at what cost? Storyline is terrific as always leading to more intrigue. Can't wait to see other x Changes are in store!
There is a lot of dark magic and necromancy going on in Coventry! There is so much I want to say about this story, but to do so would give away too many spoilers. Just know this book was great!
It was a great story - lots of Meri, Aunt Lilith, and the girls. At least two longer story goals were resolved in this book, as well as this story's story goal. All in all, very satisfying.
