(Arabic: جوزيف ميرفي) Joseph Murphy was a Divine Science minister and author.
Murphy was born in Ireland, the son of a private boy's school headmaster and raised a Roman Catholic. He studied for the priesthood and joined the Jesuits. In his twenties, an experience with healing prayer led him to leave the Jesuits and move to the United States, where he became a pharmacist in New York (having a degree in chemistry by that time). Here he attended the Church of the Healing Christ (part of the Church of Divine Science), where Emmet Fox had become minister in 1931.
In the mid 1940s, he moved to Los Angeles, where he met Religious Science founder Ernest Holmes, and was ordained into Religious Science by Holmes in 1946, thereafter teaching at the Institute of Religious Science. A meeting with Divine Science Association president Erwin Gregg led to him being reordained into Divine Science, and he became the minister of the Los Angeles Divine Science Church in 1949, which he built into one of the largest New Thought congregations in the country. In the next decade, Murphy married, earned a PhD in psychology from the University of Southern California and started writing. After his first wife died in 1976, he remarried to a fellow Divine Science minister who was his longstanding secretary. He died in 1981.
Well I am pretty disappointed with this book. The power of subconscious mind was a remarkable book. But in this book The author repeatedly tried to convince his readers by giving fake anecdotes.. You can see the influence of the great book “Autobiography of a Yogi” as he tried to do the same but failed. He was never honest with his references. While copying various verses from the timeless Ancient Hindu text of Bhagwad Gita regarding soul, he didn’t bother to mention the name. At the same time he consistently mentioned Bible..Bible thousands of times. This shows his biased and inferiority complex as he tried to redefine Bible texts which seem to be non-scientific in modern age. The title of this book is pretty misguided. Please don’t waste your time in reading this book.
This feels like a continuation of The Power of Your Subconscious Mind. It is the usual style. The author explains his points by examples. Apparently, this man knew hundreds of people and can recall all their experiences. I would not say this book deals so much with "psychic perception" as it does with the subconscious mind. Of course, they are related, but the book does not focus on how to hone one's psychic abilities, other than the usual "prayer" technique (affirmiation). Still, it contains some very interesting stories. If nothing else, you might find it an interesting read. If you liked The Power of Your Subconscious Mind, you will probably like this also.
This book perpetues trauma, sin shaming and would just say contradictions after contradictions. Pray to make fortune for you and your wife ; you shall never wish to gain more power and want things for a personal benefit. See doctors a messenger of God ; your subconscious mind is more powerful than anything. Don't put any value in external things like the wind ; you should teach your kid to perceive God's presence in every thing surrounding him like the wind.
Help the Universe and don't give this book more power.
Growing up practising Hinduism, we Hindus believe in Karma. I respect his opinion of rejecting Karma, but it seems a contradiction to me when one believes in past life and reincarnation but doesn't believe in karma. That's interesting. By believing in Karma, we allow ourselves to walk on the dharmic path and do good deeds in the present life.
However, I'm satisfied that he acknowledged the oneness (Paramātma: Advaita Vedanta-Hinduism, Allah: Islam, Great Father: Christianity).
Despite the different opinions and belief systems, we all share a humanity that connects us to the great universe, which can be a powerful, unifying force.
As an intuitive person, I have experienced precognitive dreams. I felt an out-of-the-body experience several times during my sleep, but they were not extreme and not worth to hype. As a Tamil woman, who grew up hearing stories of Siddhars, I can't decline the concept of ESP.
I already believe in extrasensory perception. That's the reason why I chose this book to read.
I'm neither impressed nor disappointed. After reading this book, I just feel like I had a confirmation bias moment.
I find this to be a very redundant book. Throughout the entire reading, I felt like the author was just repeating the same things over and over again.
It makes a lot of extraordinary claims and attempts to rationalize the contradictions between a supposed all-loving God and the injustices and suffering in the world.
He repeats Bible verses quite often, which bothered me.
This books explores how to tap into extrasensory abilities through the power of the subconscious mind. It blends spiritual belief, intuition, and mental training to develop psychic awareness. The tone is motivational, but repetitive
2.5; jak większość książek murphiego, jej wartości można spisać na 5 stronach. Bez sensu przetaczane jest 1000 podobnych przykładów 😭, ale coś z tego da się wyciągnąć dla siebie.
This is a great book on new thought, though this book in particular is basically a rehash of his previous work. Still, it's a fun read if you like old new thought authors as I do ;)
An extension to "The Power of Subconscious Mind". Author picks up from where he left in his last book and talks about clairvoyant and clairaudient powers of mind & gives lot of examples from real life. But more or less no new message or substantial learning from this one. May be I need to study mind a lot more to understand working of mind and realize its real powers.
Best lines from Author - "All the waters of all the oceans in this world can't sink a ship unless it gets in. Similarly we should guard our mind against negative thoughts and not let them in."
It's a good choice for one who's interested in learning about human minds and it's hidden possibilities. This one is a good choice. Astral projection is the other main thing which comes in it. And it's interesting. He has given a lot of true examples in each lessons. And I really enjoyed this book.
