The alpha is my worst enemy. Now I’m forced to win his heart. The alpha’s mate is chosen in the Mate Trials. The girls who participate are selected in a lottery. My name got drawn, and I resent it. He’s much too old for me, and he betrayed my pack. I once wanted to murder him. Now I’m supposed to give him my innocence.
I’m the disgrace of my pack, the stain on its reputation, the lowliest in town. Becoming the alpha’s mate is my only chance at redemption. All I need to do is resist his charm, resist his lingering eyes. Resist the way his possessive touch makes me tingle in the most shameful way.
He makes me pass a series of tests, to see if I’m good enough. Tests that lock me into his mansion, bringing me awfully close to him. But the closer I get, the more I get lost. Lost in his healing fingers, his teasing tongue. Lost in the little miracle growing in the depths of my belly…
Do I dare lose myself in the alpha?
In the small town of Beaufort Creek, people believe in arranged marriages. Because when two shifters are brought together to overcome old resentments and form strong alliances, the power of love heals all…
Hi there! I’m Layla Silver, and I’m so happy to see you here :) I’m a mom of three adorable kids and after all these years, still wildly in love with my awesome and hard-working husband. I LOVE to write about hot shifters, whether Wolves, Bears, or Dragons, who are looking for their mates and will do anything to protect them no matter what comes their way. When I’m not writing or spending time with my family (which is pretty rare, but I’m not complaining!), I like to be in the mountains chasing paranormal dreams.

this was my first werewolf romance novel 😂 i needed a palette cleanser, something easy to get through, and this worked. pretty spicy, surprisingly not much werewolfing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I really didn’t like this storyline from the get-go. I kind of knew that going in but I was so desperate for a shifter romance that I thought I’d give this a go. I shouldn’t have.
Veronica was a completely illogical character. So was Blake but for different reasons. Veronica came into the story wanting to kill Blake but that intention seemed to fly right out of her head as soon as she met the guy. Not to mention, she was acting way too snarky from the jump if her intention was to lull him into a false sense of security before she made her move. Some assassin she was. And throughout, Blake was so enchanted by her and thought she was so special to the other women. I couldn’t see it at all.
Blake was barely an alpha. And he’s 25 in this book. The blurb mentioned he was old and even the cover model on the story looked older and bad-ass. But this guy was all bark and no bite. And he switched his stance on mates way too quickly and conveniently to my taste.
And that brings me to my biggest sticking point with this novel. The romance that blossomed between the main couple was just completely unbelievable to me. Not to mention the matter of the surprise that happens way too early in their mating. I don’t even think it’s biologically possible to tell and feel the effects of that so early on. So I was really rolling my eyes there.
Everything was too quick and convenient. It just all felt so surface level. After completing the book, I still don’t know why the mate bond is protective. The world building was sort of there but also not. The action was bleh and wasn’t all that exciting. This book had a few sex scenes but they felt kind of bland to me.
Overall, I didn’t like the premise, the couple or the execution of this novel.

I found the story interesting enough to finish. It's definitely not what I thought from the title. I liked Veronica and Blake. They are both flawed characters, but they have some depth. I wanted the concept of fated mate or true mate to be fleshed out more. I read lots of PNR and this idea varies from author and series. I thought Blake's grandmother was hilarious and insightful. I wish the motives for Veronica's alpha were fleshed out so we could understand why, unless I just missed it. I also thought the first adult encounter wasn't realistic, seemed too easy, and Blake didn't seem to notice her slight struggle, but not sure if that was what the author was going for. I actually read this book in one day. I am curious about what happens next, so I will pick up the next read.
Layla Silver has done it again. Another winner. Every time I see her name I have to read the book because I know it will be terrific. Blake is a new alpha and looking for a mate. Veronica comes from a different pack and is told by her alpha to kill Blake. So she is forced to join in the mating trial set up by Blake and his mother. While she is there will she finally kill Blake or fall in love with him? I suggest you read this book to find out. I highly recommend this book to one and all.
I received this book as an Arc and am leaving a review voluntarily.
I don't know why I didn't really care for this book. The idea behind Alpha's Forced Mate sounded interesting - a competition to choose who the Alpha would marry. I've read other books that follow this plot device, and they were really good. I'm honestly not sure what it was about this book. The writing was good - a little stilted at times and the story didn't flow as smoothly as it could have. The characters were a bit one dimensional. Overall, I wouldn't read it again and while I may tell other about it I don't know that I would recommend it. 3 spice 18+ recommended age
Veronica comes to try to kill the alpha on her alpha’s instructions, but fails. Then she is chosen to compete with three others in the Alpha Trials. Blake doesn’t want a mate but is pressured by his mother, she feels he will be safer with a mate by his side. This is full of intrigue, betrayal, a sarcastic, argumentative wolf and an egotistical alpha: all adding up to a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and reviewed an ARC copy of the book.
This book starts on a sad note with the death of their Alpha. But after that it picks up with humor and twists. The son of the old Alpha needs a mate and his mother and grandmother are all in his business pushing him the right way. It’s the mom and grandmother that really make the story enjoyable. They are hard, funny, and demanding all at the same time. Read On!
Not a fan of mixed shifter packs. Its weird. Not a fan of other shifter books either. So maybe I am biased. Bear shifters are weird and not sure how I feel about lion shifter books. Wolves I get tho. Besides that, book is all over the place. There's a big hurdle to jump over and it kind of just gets brushed under the rug. Ok written. Bit of angst bot much. Not much of relationships build ups. But I finished it. So not terrible. Just have read better
It was okay… pretty mid with the character development and storyline. Could have been better as a stand-alone and then the cliffhanger was just typical bad guy returns and is that going to be in book 2 for the continuation of the drama idk but book 2 does not continue with the ML or FL from book 1 so not sure how that transition if book 2 is about different characters and plots as a whole 🤔
It's a little confusing about the alpha that is evil. I don't understand why he always wants 2 lie 2 his people and kill alk other alphas? even though they didn't start out the rt way, they need 2 figure out more about each other and what really calls 2 each other on a deeper level. Can they get 2gether and have a future or will they will loose e everything b4 it really starts? Read and find out. There's a few tweaks I c in it that can help others. It wasn't what I expected.
For this Alpha is thing to find a mate so he puts out a call for the best female from all packs for the mate games that his mother thinks will help to find the right one for him,and in the end he finds his true mate before the games finished.I do like a happy ending.I would like to say thank you for all your hard work and may fortune smile 😃on you always 😁from a bookworm
The cover model looks hella old where the MMC is only 25, so there's that. I liked this, it's a he falls first which I do enjoy. I liked the internal struggles of Veronica and the growth that she has a she realized her worth. This isn't a series I want to read all of though, just the oness where the plot interests me.
Boundaries, just a few obstacles and hurdles within this tale. Secrets never stay hidden, love never takes a back seat! I highly recommend this amazing shifter tale to all. I can't wait to read book 2! Thank you Layla Silver for sharing & bringing your wonderful imagination to life with your writings
I knew Nica's alpha was a snake. His motives for attacking Blake were farfetched and he was playing on Nica's loss and her insecurities. Blake was stubborn and almost didn't get the chances he needed to become a great alpha.
Was so good!! I can't wait to read the next book. This book was a fast read for me. I couldn't put it down. The characters were great. Storyline was great. Action non stop.
A determined assassin, a single Alpha and Mate Trials!!
This was a surprisingly good read! The story of Alpha Blake and Veronica is full of love and hate and mates? You have to read this because their story is quite different!!
Great book. Action packed and so full of mystery it definitely keeps you reading. I can not wait to get my hands on the next book... Looks like it might be the beginning of a great series.
This book started out dry. It got a bit better about the 7-8th chapters and was steady in events after. But…. Was a little dry in the end. Hopefully the 2nd book of this series is better.
A completely well rounded story. The characters are layered & complex. The scenario is put together logically & moves along at a steady pace. There are even moments of humor. I am very impressed & satisfied. Can’t wait for the next book.
This is an amazing beginning to a new series by Layla Silver! Well developed characters and background information and plenty of drama and intrigue to keep you reading!
This one is strange. The whole premise of games to find a mate but also having a real mate is novel to me. It was fine and predictable and nice enough to light read.
