A Different Kind of Edge : Transitioning from Skater to Coach: A Guide to Figure Skating Foundations

Rate this book
During those early days of coaching, I searched everywhere for a book that carefully explained the techniques behind skating. It was hard for me to remember the basics. I wanted to be more specific about where a skater should press on the blade, how to teach jump rotation, increase speed, etc.

This is the book I wanted but couldn’t find when I started my coaching career.
This book is a resource for the skater who wants to transition from being an athlete to being a coach.

I hope it can inspire skaters to not only build a strong baseline, but help them create their own ideas about coaching. The most amazing thing I found during my coaching journey is how everything in figure skating connects and builds on itself.

Jessica's writing style is not only informative but also sprinkled with subtle humor that kept me entertained from start to finish. Having been around the rink for what feels like an eternity, even though I'm not a coach, the book brilliantly breaks down various skating elements and learning techniques.
A special thank you for the dedicated chapter for us adult skaters. It's heartwarming to see our presence acknowledged. Here's hoping it inspires more adults to join the figure skating world, or perhaps encourages skaters to make a comeback – just like I did. In any case, or if in doubt, I suggest to dive into it!
