A good foundation for people who lead and manage people. Much of it was common sense practices which I feel is already what I do but his reinforcement of why was good. I think it is most effective to have the author narrate these types of books because they have proven to be talented and successful so why not be the one presenting it to us as well. It’ll be interesting to see if this new release will be on some desks at my company soon. I decided to download the ebook as well as a reference tool.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity in exchange for an honest review.

In the world of business literature, where the shelves are saturated with guides and tales of success, Brendan P. Keegan's "The FUD Factor" emerges as a beacon of practical wisdom. Narrated with compelling clarity by Maxwell Zener, this audiobook is not merely a collection of words but an orchestration of experiences that resonate with the listener's inner leader.

**The Composition**

Keegan composes his narrative with a maestro's precision, delving into the psychological trinity of Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt (FUD) that often paralyzes potential. The book's structure is akin to a symphony, with each chapter building upon the last, culminating in a crescendo of empowerment. The author's voice, as channeled through Zener's narration, carries the weight of authenticity and the warmth of a mentor who has walked the path before.

**The Conductor**

Maxwell Zener's narration is a performance that deserves its own standing ovation. With a voice that commands attention yet soothes the mind, Zener becomes the conduit for Keegan's insights. His pacing is impeccable, allowing the listener to absorb the gravity of the concepts without feeling overwhelmed. It's a narration that doesn't just aim to inform but to transform.

**The Crescendo**

"The FUD Factor" reaches its zenith when it shifts from theory to application. Keegan doesn't leave the listener with abstract concepts; he provides a roadmap to overcoming the titular FUD. The strategies outlined are not just theoretical musings but battle-tested tactics drawn from Keegan's own storied career and the collective wisdom of leaders across industries.

**The Coda**

As the final notes of the audiobook fade, the listener is left not just with knowledge but with a renewed sense of purpose. Keegan's message is clear: Fearless Leaders are not born; they are forged in the crucible of self-belief and relentless pursuit of the impossible. The audiobook doesn't end; it echoes, urging one to revisit its lessons and apply them anew.

**The Critique**

While "The FUD Factor" is a masterclass in leadership, it is not without its minor dissonances. Some may find the anecdotes and examples skewed towards a corporate audience, potentially alienating those in non-traditional leadership roles. However, this is a minor quibble in an otherwise harmonious composition.

**The Conclusion**

In conclusion, "The FUD Factor" is an audiobook that should be on the playlist of anyone aspiring to lead, whether in the boardroom or beyond. Brendan P. Keegan, with the voice of Maxwell Zener, has crafted an experience that is as enlightening as it is enjoyable. It is a testament to the power of overcoming fear, uncertainty, and doubt, and a guide to achieving the impossible.

I'm always looking to learn and grow, so when this came to me curtesy of NetGalley I had to dive in. I really enjoyed the listen. On the whole the narration was pretty good. I liked that it was somewhere between, conversational and that college professor you really liked. The only complaint I have was some of the "voices" he used for different people kinda grated a little, but overall, not to the point I wouldn't listen again. I also know that's got to be hard to do.

I think Keegan did a great job in reiterating that FUD was Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt, without over doing it. I have read or listened to books that had a Catch Phrase but when it was all said and done, you couldn't remember what it actually stood for. Not the case here. I also liked Keegan's use of both positive and negative examples. He also drew from others' stories which were mostly all positive examples. If you wonder if this is a Keegan, "look how great I am," book, let me say it is NOT.

There was one really tiny section that was some math formulas that was totally lost on me. I should say, I usually listen to audios on my rather long commute, and so I don't do much rewinding and searching while listening. So, if I had gone back and listened to that section again perhaps I would have understood it. However, as it was things were rocking along and then it seemed like we had several algebraic equations out of nowhere and I didn't understand the point he was trying to convey. This book, like most, focuses on leadership in the privet sector. For most readers or listeners that's probably perfect. However, if you work in a government institution, some of these stories just won't hit home, because well it's the government and that's just not how it works. However, there is still a bunch of great information. It WILL make you a better leader but probably won't propel you to the top like in the private sector. Definitely worth the read/ listen!

This is my first 5-star review on Netgalley, and this book deserves it. I didn't know how much I needed this book until I clicked play on the audio. I would recommend this book to anyone who finds themselves in a slump or needs to jump start their career. It really gives great insights and amazing tips on how to lead and how to be a fearless leader. The author shares his own personal experiences and insights as well as those of others who are at the top of their game and how they got there. I particularly loved the story he shared of Mr. Disney himself, and how his road to success was not as easy as we would think. I always thought he was fed the silver spoon and Disney World just materialized out of magic, but I found out that his perseverance and conquering his FUD led him to achieving his goals. Once I started listening to this audiobook, I literally could not stop! I took it everywhere with me, on the trail, at the gym, to the store, even whilst relaxing in a bath. The author did an amazing job! Through sharing his experience and insights., this book inspires one to overcome their own FUD. The narration is amazingly clear and highly engaging! It was a book I did not want to ever end and one that I plan to read again and again. This book is great at any stage of your life whether you are just starting out, have been promoted to a new managerial role, a CEO at a big company or managing a book club. It offers great tools and practical and tactical strategies to help readers conquer their FUD, boost their confidence and achieve their goals. This book is a must have on your bookcase, iPhone or kindle! It is definitely a book you will want to revisit again and again throughout the stages of your life! I 100% endorse purchasing this book! You will be happy you did!

*I won this book in a goodreads giveaway*

This is rounded down from a 3.5. There were a lot of things I enjoyed about this book. I appreciated how much knowledge and experience the author brought to the book and I also appreciated how much he brought in the knowledge and experience of other successful leaders in various fields. The book also highlighted a lot of women who are successful leaders and I appreciated that. The advice in the book is easy to follow and all of it has an explanation for why it matters. Definitely some helpful ways to change my mindset as I am entering my professional career. But there were also some things that lowered the rating for me. First, there were some typos sprinkled throughout which really hurt the book overall. I also felt that some of the introductions and even stories were a little forced or cheesy almost which made it difficult to relate. Overall I did enjoy the read and I there are definitely some knowledge and wisdom tidbits I will take with me but I wouldn’t say this book was groundbreaking for me.

There are only a handful of self-help books that I’ve ever rated 4 or 5 stars. Conciseness and simple presentation of information are what made this an enjoyable read. About the only thing I wish had been different was a short summary of key points at the end of each chapter.
As with all such books, it’s stuff you should already know, but probably stopped doing at some point or don’t do as well as well as you should be. A few actionable steps but most of it is high-level white collar career advancement.

⚠️ Content notes: none noted

🏳️‍🌈Representation: There are a few stories as examples throughput. All are of white men and one woman.

👍🏼I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Great info that will get you hyped up about becoming a leader in the workplace.
Most of the ideas could probably be applied outside the workplace (church, charities, any volunteer organization, etc), but examples were only given for the workplace.
Considering how driven most Americans are to work themselves to exhaustion, I would have appreciated a little more on how to find balance between a work life and personal life and how to draw healthy boundaries. Most of the examples used in the books—while extremely successful people—seemed to value work more than family or non-career oriented pursuits.
Some of the information was a bit repetitive, but if you narrow it down to just the basic facts, it’s good info (although some of it seemed like it should already be common sense).

Thank you for the complimentary copy won through Goodreads.

There are no new concepts in this book, but it does highlight a lot of known effective concepts. Concepts taken from psychology, relationship counseling, and communication techniques. It appeared to be geared towards those in a white collar professional setting or seeking this experience for their career.
There was nothing that felt eye opening or thought provoking. I was concerned about the comments on advocacy as a negative action taken by workers. Advocacy, as previously understood is very hard work and a strong social work service provided to many who have had little support.

I received this as a giveaway.

This came at the right time, even though I went the other way. I was offered a position I never wanted to be in ever again, and my gut reaction was to say no. This book made me pause and really consider: doing things that are save and not for the right reasons. It made me think about what my manager sees versus what I see in myself. I still didn't take the position for other reasons, but I was glad to have another lens to look through to assist me in making my decision.

This book was a collection of stories from a man who manages businesses and encourages people. I found it boring, irrelevant and at an extremely easy reading level (think freshman in high school reading level).
Readers who live a city life and work in big businesses, or entrepreneurs, might benefit best from this type of book. To someone with a nontraditional lifestyle, I wouldn't recommend this at all.

Three stars though because the author has done some amazing things in his life and I absolutely respect that.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book. I think there are quite a few good tips in there to keep in mind and practice when you are in a leadership role (or even just in life in general). None of the ideas presented here are earth shattering, but more of a good reminder of some common sense things. It was a pleasant, easy read, and left me with a few ideas to try in my own life.

I received this book as part of a publisher’s giveaway. Thank you to Forbes Books.

other people’s books

Maybe I have read to many of these leadership books but it seems this on is very simple and intuitive. No wow moment here. Also referencing some else’s leadership book and explaining the story makes it more unoriginal. If this is your first step into reading to become a better leader this is a read for you. If you are an avid reader across this topic you have already read this book.

Loved this book! Very practical tips and a great way to look at things. Life is about perspectives and changing the way we see things and talk to ourselves makes all the difference.

I included the FUD into my coaching conversations.

This book seems geared to those white collar professionals that are already successful, but are feeling insecure or overwhelmed in their success.
The book is a quick, well written and easy read, and good for those who are looking for ways to keep their heads up and stay motivated in their workplace.

I received this book in a giveaway, which was shocking because I wasn’t expecting to win a giveaway. Unfortunately, I didn’t end up liking the book. It was a bit too repetitive for me. It’s also a bit too…simple; I feel like it should’ve been a bit more complex. To each their own.
