As soon as I read the blurb of this book, I eagerly awaited its publication. K'Dec has so far been portrayed as a strong but aloof woman whose first priority was the well-being of the colony. To most, she was the governor of the colony and commander of the Falosian army. Only among the few could she be her true self, just Maral. Her incredible sense of duty led her to marry MakenRoy, Alliance Ambassador and Malurien Royal, in an effort to gain an ally.
I really liked the the clash of these two characters. You can say that she has met her match :) Both of them were very similar, which made them sometimes get on each other's nerves. First of all, they were extremely intelligent and very loyal to their people. Marriage of convenience was nothing new in Malurien culture. However, for K'Dec it was a challenge because, firstly, MakenRoy was not a genetically modified human man, but a alien male, and secondly, the Maluriens did not enter into marriage contracts for a few years like the Falosians, but they mated for life. The decision to become involved with a stranger for the rest of their lives was not easy, but it gave both of them a chance to find the only feeling they had not been able to experience so far - the love of their partner. I really liked Maral's hidden personality. She turned out to be a fierce woman full of compassion and a great sense of humor.
MakenRoy, under his mask of an ambassador and cunning spy, in private was funny, smart, patient, and very protective of his loved ones.
As always in this series, the story is full of action, intrigue and political machinations that make it hard to stop reading. I am curious what the author will surprise us with in the next book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
