Nick is used to making difficult calls in the name of family…except those family obligations weren’t supposed to come up against a smoking hot ranch manager, his enticing young husband, and the undeniable attraction that crackles between the three of them. Now Nick has to decide what’s more important: his responsibilities or his heart.
MICAH AVERY has always followed his heart and it’s gotten him everything he’s ever dreamed of. Micah never expected his heart to lead him in this direction, but it hasn’t steered him wrong yet.
RYAN AVERY is amazed by the happiness he’s found with Micah. But one thing he's learned from his husband of three years, is that anything is possible. Then the three of them click in ways that Ryan couldn’t have anticipated, and he starts to see possibilities he’d never dreamed of. Possibilities that just need to survive Nick’s real reason for being there.
Something Unexpected is an 80k, high-heat, MMM romance with a happily established couple finding their third, a dash of bedroom-only kink, absolutely no cheating, and a guaranteed HEA. It’s the second book in the Split Rock Ranch series and is best enjoyed after book one.
Rory Maxwell discovered romance novels on her mom’s bookshelf when she was probably too young to be reading them—the reward for being a nosy kid with great reading comprehension. The magic of a dial-up internet connection led her to the wonderful world of MM fanfiction a few years later and she fell in love with the genre. In 2019 she woke up with a plot bunny, opened a word doc, and started trying to figure out how this writing stuff worked.
Rory grew up outside of Washington, DC, moved away, and then came back for reasons she doesn’t fully understand. An artist and writer, she always has too many exciting ideas and not nearly enough free time. One day, she hopes to escape to the mountains and open an LGBTQIA+ friendly bed and breakfast where she can work from home and write as much as she wants. In the meantime, she splits her time between her day job and writing MM romance with heart, heat, and happy endings.
I was skeptical when Micah and Ryan’s novella was over, the author said the next book was them with a third. I love poly books, but this couple didn’t feel like one to add a third.
Unfortunately this was more of a lust situation than a love one. I think the author tried to make it like they were all falling for each other, but it didn’t really translate well and I didn’t feel the emotions between the three of them by the time they threw out some I love you’s at the end.
There are also several typos and the writing in general needs to be cleaned up. New author growing pains.
I will read the next and hope that some issues are fixed but if not, I’ll probably have to shelve this author. Bummer.

Something Unexpected was a strong follow up to Something Undeniable and I really enjoyed seeing more of Micah and Ryan! I adored Micah in the first book, and the love and affection between him and Ryan was really sweet and palpable here.
I loved how things developed between the men, Micah and Nick had an instant attraction to each other and I loved how supportive and understanding Ryan was. With the age gap between Micah and Ryan, it was only normal that Ryan came across as more experienced and mature, while Micah was a bit more insecure and almost came across as innocent in some scenes. I appreciated the communication and honesty between the men about their attraction and feelings, it helped to keep the angst down and made sure that there were no misunderstandings. I'm definitely curious about how their relationship would look like, there wasn't really any relationship development here, mostly just the start of something based on chemistry and attraction.
There was a bit of a suspense plot and some unexpected twists and revelations throughout the story. I felt for Nick and how he was trapped in a situation that he had little to no influence over, I really liked him as a character and I think he was great for both Micah and Ryan as well. His presence at the farm added tension to the plot, and while there were lots of hints along the story, it took quite some time before the truth was revealed.
Something Unexpected was a great read, it was a story that was easy to get engrossed in and I honestly didn't want to put it down. I completely adored these men and the found family vibes of the people working on the farm - I can't wait to see more of the Split Rock Ranch crew!
- I received a complimentary copy of this book, and these are my honest thoughts and opinions.
3.5 stars Ok. So I enjoyed this. It was sweet, easy to read and uncomplicated, which is exactly what I needed while in bed with the flu. There’s also a slew of secondary characters who will get books who are very intriguing and I want to read more about.
My main issue with this book is the fact you have to sign up for the authors newsletter in order to get a missing sex scene. When I say “missing” it’s because it’s the first time they all actually have full-sex all together. A fairly important coming together for any throuple and one I, the reader, was waiting for but was pretty much fade to black. Honestly, it stuck out like a sore thumb and it wasn’t until I got to the end I realised it was a marketing ploy to get my email.
Did I sign up so I could read it? Yes. Was it worth it? Yes. Could it have been included in the novel? Absolutely- there was a hole in the story without it. Did I unsubscribe after I read it? Yes I did. I’m petty like that sometimes.
So, yeah. A lot of goodwill the author garnered from me was lost by this. I can forgive the rushed romance during the 2 week time span, the barely there plot that meanders in the background while these three men begin to fool around, the lack of relationship development on page and several coincidences that help move the story along. But I genuinely liked these men so don’t withhold the sex.
I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt for the next book. But if it happens again… 😉
It was great to see a follow up to Micah and Ryan’s original story. Their journey started in Something Undeniable and, for the full backstory on their relationship, I would start there. Something Unexpected begins when the men have been married for three years and everything in their lives is perfect. It was great being back on the ranch and seeing how happy they are together and with their lives on the ranch. They immediately warm to Nick, as they have heard stories about him over the years. However, they didn’t expect Nick to be a slick businessman pulling up unexpectedly in his sports car and dress shoes.
“It’s you and me, forever. I’m not interested in anything that you’re not a part of.”
3 stars? Maybe like 3.25? This was a really cute poly romance that I was totally prepared to love. And I did like it, but it just wasn't as robust or fulfilling as I needed it to be. I liked the prequel novella more, which surprises me, because I tend not to enjoy shorter books. But in the prequel, the relationship between Ryan and Micah felt weighty and meaningful, especially because it has all those years of longing behind it. In this, we're introduced to Nick, the ranch owner's nephew, who comes back to town after a long absence, bearing news that could make things end badly for the ranch. Both Micah and Ryan start falling for him. While this book is twice as long as the first, the relationships just didn't feel as meaningful. Probably because most of it takes place in like two weeks. It just felt rushed! While they all had undeniable chemistry, it was difficult for me to see what about Nick made Ryan and Micah want to invite him into their marriage (or even just their bed) that soon. I mean, of course, I went along with it, because this is a romance and I'm just here for the cuteness and the feelings and the swoon. But it remained a niggling question at the back of my head.
But I didn't dislike anything about the book; I just wanted to feel more of a connection. The plot was fine, even though the resolution hinged on Nick doing something he'd been avoiding for most of the book. (Contacting his ex.) The dad plot was a little ham-fisted, and his brand of evil was a little cartoony, but I do appreciate narratives where people get away from conniving parents. And the romance was sweet and hot when it needed to be.
I'll probably give Xavier's romance a try. While the writing doesn't wow me or anything, I really do like this brand of low-conflict romance, set in a homey small town.
Small towns are like big families with all the characters.
A horse ranch or any farm that has livestock is a very busy place. It is impossible to operate without a big farmhouse and at least a barn for the animals and hired help unless it has feed and equipment storage. More out buildings may be necessary for other livestock like cattle pigs, chickens, dogs, cats, rabbits, turkeys, and many other items such as garage, machine shed, grain bins, hay storage, and fenced in animal holding and trading pens.
A ranch or farm usually has many moving pieces depending on it's main function, location, the season, and the people living, working, or visiting there. The business requires management, administrative, production, maintenance, construction, equipment operators, transportation, cooking, animal care, crop and water production, and many other functions.
A small farm may just use immediate family, but most hire help seasonally or for special projects. Most small farms and ranches share help with neighbors to get everything done. It becomes a real mutual support "family" especially if someone is hurt or disabled.
This book is about how a small ranch in the Blue Ridge Mountains is the loved "home" of a group of people that have far more connections than you would guess. It is focused on tourists for trail rides, riding lessons, horse training, and providing beautiful mountain experiences. The team works together to care for the animals, tourists, and each other.
Building a happy and healthy team from people with the usual problems with health, family, school, and social skills while having fun and making money is a challenge. As each builds on their relationships and personal needs while supporting each other, it can be a great and enjoyable life.
At least until someone decides to get greedy or lazy. Family disagreements and money problems can be challenging. But love and sex can be a problem, too.
Please read Something Undeniable first it’s the story where Micah and Ryan get together. It would be sad if you missed their sweet romance.
Ryan and Micah are already three years married and going steady, running the Split Rock Ranch, in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Nicholas is on his way to the Split Rock Ranch, over an almost impassable road, a pothole ends his ride. From Nick’s first encounter with Micah, he felt something and was disappointed to hear he was married.
It’s been twenty years since the last time Nick been at the Split Rock Ranch, not since his mother died. Now he’s thirty-four, divorced from Xavier, and cleaning up his father’s mess. He has business to finish at Split Rock Ranch, on the instructions of his dad. Business not in favor of Ryan and Micah, or his aunt Maggie who owns the ranch. Meeting Ryan and Micah and seeing their hard work on the ranch, Nick doesn’t want to go through with his dads’ plans, it’s quite complicated.
While Micah and Ryan are very happy with each other and a perfect fit, as a couple, Nick seems to be the perfect addition to make it a threesome.
The chemistry between the three men was sensible and hot, their sexy encounters were quite appealing. They are easygoing and mature with each other, well, Micah can be an adorable brat. The buzz of the ranch, the people on it, the work that has to be done, the banter, it was just wonderful to follow. All animated pictured as if I was there with them. I could look around see and smell the ranch and nature. Overall a captivatingly written story, with a lovely unexpected romance, it had a good flow, with lovable characters (except one!) Looking forward to Xavier and Finn their story!
After reading book 1 and seeing book 2 introduces a third, i had to see how this author played it out. Some authors are able to pull this off, while others make the situation filled forced. Nick was just meant to be a part of Micah & Ryan's life. Together, the heat is unstoppable and just works out beautifully. Also, having the ex-husband be such an amazing side character that is supportive shows the author understands that just because you get a divorce doesn't mean you are now enemies. Sometimes, you just grow apart. There are so many interesting characters that I hope will get stories in the future.
Micah is the sweetest, funniest brat. You can feel the love and security between him and Ryan. When Nick comes in the picture there's instant chemistry between him and Micah. I adore how supportive and understanding Ryan is in all this. There's so much changing for them all. They are all adults about the situation they are in and I love how they communicate from the beginning.
This was a great read, I didn't want to put it down!!
Talk about the perfect title…this romance was wholly unexpected. I fell in love with the Split Rock Ranch crew when I read the first story in the series, so I was more than eager to dive back into that universe with Something Unexpected. Once again, I found myself pulled into the story and excited to see what Micah and Ryan were up to as well as all the secondary characters. I didn’t anticipate the interesting story about the future of the ranch and especially didn’t expect to get another story detailing Micah and Ryan welcoming a third into their relationship.
Something Unexpected ended up being a great blend of heat and good story with likeable characters and a setting I will happily revisit in the future. If you enjoy good throuple stories or like romances set on a working ranch, Something Unexpected and the Split Rock Ranch series is worth the read.
*eARC received via Gay Romance Reviews. The author and PA had no influence over this review*
I read the prequel to this a while ago and was interested in seeing how two would become three, since it can easily feel imbalanced. But I really liked how the three of them came together, it was nice having all three of their perspectives throughout the story and the relationship felt nicely balanced between them. It helped that Nick wasn't a total outsider, but already had his own connection to the ranch. I also appreciated that the mess with Nick's dad drove them closer together instead of driving them apart, since the lack of communication about it at the start made me a bit worried that it would cause unnecessary drama between them.
I didn't like that the author decided to put their second sex scene, which felt important to further relationship development, in a newsletter instead of in the book (I did not sign up/read it - put the book stuff in the actual book!). A epilogue/post-story sex scene would have worked better for that purpose. And I found the side characters pretty flat and not that interesting, so I don't feel that tempted to continue the series. But overall this was an enjoyable read for me, a nice balance of romance and drama.
I haven't had the chance to read the first part, but this works well as a standalone. I really enjoyed Nick, caught in situations he didn't want by his father. I hadn't expected the relationship with his ex, seeing where his story began. The other characters were really sweet and I could definitely feel the physical chemistry between the three MCs, although they hadn't built much of a relationship outside that chemistry yet. The ending was interesting. I received a complimentary copy of this book and am happy to leave a voluntary review.
I was so excited to read this. Rory Maxwell had me with the first book and now I’m addicted. I need all the stories. Seeing Micah and Ryan fall for Nick and him for them was awesome. Micah is so cute. I love that he still blushes. Now I need stories for Izzy, Keagan, Finn, and Xavier. I also need to know how Archer’s art is doing and how Alice is. I want to know all about Split Rock Ranch and the town.
I feel like this book would have worked better if it was written for a new triad, rather than adding to the couple starring in the last book. The last book was really good at establishing the chemistry and longing between Ryan and Micah. It invoked a lot of feelings for me as a reader, there were a number of sections I had to reread because the first read through gave me such delightful heart flutters. It’s a huge challenge to add a third to an already well established (and married) couple without making the third read like a third wheel. Nick read a lot like a third wheel through the majority of this book. Maybe it didn’t help that there was so much “my husband”, “your husband” and not “our guy”? Just reinforcing Nick being on the outside, included only at their invitation? Which makes sense for a married couple, first loyalty is to each other, but kinda rough for the guy on the outside looking in. He did have a few good, cute or romantic moments with Micah but Nick’s relationship with Ryan felt mostly felt centred around Micah. It wasn’t until the very end I felt much between Ryan and Nick.
Not bad but a letdown after book 1.

3rd person, past tense, multi PoV Dominic Lauder (34), financial manager at Lauder Financial Management Micah Avery (25), head trainer at Split Rock Ranch Ryan Avery (38), ranch manager at Split Rock Ranch
This story picks up three years after Something Undeniable and can be read as a standalone, though Micah and Ryan's book gives richer context for the characters and story.
I really enjoyed this book, despite its length I absolutely tore through it in almost no time at all. I'm loving this author's writing and story telling. I already loved Micah and Ryan and it was lovely to see them even more settled in their relationship and living their best ranch life. It took me a minute to warm up to Nick as he was quite guarded - with good reason - but once he loosened up he was easy to love as well. Micah and Ryan never stood a chance.
I loved that nobody got mired in what they should or shouldn't feel. Micah had some little concerns, but with great communication with Ryan and Nicky that got sorted with minimal drama. The progression of their relationship didn't feel forced, but it did feel fast. Given the length of the book I wish the relationship development had been a little more slow burn; two weeks is lightning fast for introducing a third to an established, monogamous, relationship with literally no prior conversation about doing so. I'd have enjoyed a little more tension building between them before things boiled over and I wish Ryan had been a little more vocal with his PoV so his desire could be better felt and not merely chalked up to wanting to make his husband happy. While these three had attraction and chemistry in spades there wasn't much more in the way of relationship development to show the reader that these guys have staying power, especially since Nicky concealed his true purpose for visiting the ranch for half the book.
His small deceit is quickly swept aside, and to be honest that whole conflict had too much build up to be resolved so quickly, conveniently and easily. Still it was an entertaining plotline to get all our MCs in the same time and place and it was lovely to see Nick finally find the place where he belongs.
All the secondary characters enriched the narrative without taking the spotlight away from our heroes and I'm invested in their stories. It was fun to see everyone close ranks and come together to sort our the future of Split Rock Ranch.
There's a reader magnet of a missing scene (mid-chapter 20), which is a trend I hope to see die soon, it's extremely irritating to have to jump through hoops to read the story you have just purchased in its entirety.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in a FB giveaway.
I really enjoyed meeting Micah and Ryan in the first book, following their sweet love story, filled with years of longing, before they finally get their HEA. For this book, what starts as some sexy fun with Nick as a third, evolves into stronger feelings in a very short timeframe. If you read the first book, you wouldn't be surprised by this happening for Micah since he declared at fifteen he was going to one day marry Ryan. For Ryan, he was a little slower to catch on in the previous book, but maybe being married to Micah for a few years made him more observant? And as for Nick, it was really surprising that his feeling shifted so quickly when you consider that he was keeping a majorly huge and devastating secret from everyone at the Ranch. By the end of the book, the love felt more genuine, especially after getting some feelings of longing - especially from Micah. While this book is about twice as long as the first, this one lacks the genuine feel of emotions that were prevalent in book one, yet they do all fall in love and are completely accepted as such by all their friends and family. I love the Ranch, the connectedness of family/found family and of everyone else there, and the fair sized bunch of amazing secondary characters - plenty to choose from for future books. I liked that Nick was able to fully walk away from his father in the end - after Phillip showing that he could still sink lower than he was as a human and father. However, there were some inconsistencies and a general need for an editor and proofreader. Overall, this book was enjoyable and entertaining. There was some angst, intense emotions, a nasty bad guy, and some laughs and sexy times to break up the tension while waiting for the day to be saved and for the triad to get to HEA.
I received an ARC from GRR, this is my honest opinion.
MY OPINION: This was good, and I am so glad I got to read it. It was such a well-paced story, keeping me involved in the story and wanting to see how things turned out.
Nick was the one we met first, and he arrived at his aunt’s ranch with bad news. He finds that things have changed in the last twenty years. Instead of his aunt, there are two very hot men living in the main house.
Micah and Ryan have a happy marriage while living at the ranch. They help run things and are happy overall, living life. When Nick arrives, they are surprised by how he affects them. Both of them suddenly feel lust for the man, which isn’t expected. They embrace those feelings.
After they have a spicy moment with the three of them, feelings grow. It’s not only lust. They decide to go slow. When they found out that Nick brought bad news, they had to accept that he is a good guy, and they let their feelings control the situation.
It was a wonderful story of three men realizing that together there was something unique between them. A bond that wasn’t expected, but they leaned into the feelings. We see that the marriage between Micah and Ryan was still strong, even as they welcomed Nick into their lives as a lover and a partner.
The romance between these men is wonderful and sweet. They embrace the situation; there is plenty of consent and conversation, which makes it that much better. The story’s foundation is good, with a little drama but not really angsty. There are some wonderful friends and family included. You get introduced to the horses and the business. Overall, it’s a win. The spicy scenes are great, but there is plenty of intimacy that isn’t necessarily more than that. This is going to be a great series, and I am glad I got to read this. I am looking forward to the next one. There are a lot of characters that need their story told for sure.
I absolutely loved this book! Everything about it was perfect! The only thing that would have made it better?….if there was more to it! I absolutely loved this book the development of adding nick into Micah and Ryan’s relationship and that there was never any judgement from the other about wanting to include him and continue pursuing things with him. I love how cautious they all were to enter the relationship but also how obvious it was that some were very eager to continue exploring and to show their feelings for Nick. I also love the nickname that Nick has for Micah and that Ryan continues to call Nicky through the whole thing. While I hate everything that Nicks father tried to do the farm and Maggie I love the way Nick moves to support her and the farm. In addition I love the way everything ends and the way that they get the farm back by ultimately forcing Phillip to think that doing so is in his interest. And I love the way that Nick ultimately cuts ties with his father in the court house and decides that he is not worth his support anymore. I love the epilogue and the bonus chapter, but like I said I wish that there was so much more to this story and the development to their relationship! I hope that we get to see more of their relationship development in the future books in this series! And I so cannot wait to read Xavier’s story after getting to meet him in this book! Ultimately I guess it’s clear that I’m absolutely loving this book and I cannot wait to continue reading this series!!

I absolutely loved Micah and Ryan in the prequel novella before this and I so wanted to love this book. But Micah and Ryan didn't feel like a couple who needed a third which works in other books but didn't for me in this one. We didn't even get to fully experience Micah and Ryan in their lives together and now they're adding a third? Maybe with a different couple it would have worked but my problem with MMM books is feeling like there's a third wheel and someone not feeling as intrical to the relationship and I liked Nick but I felt he wasn't fully a part of them or needed to be. Especially since their love story is so rushed and in 2 weeks they're opening up their marriage and falling for Nick? I just didn't feel the relationship development I would have liked to see in over 200 pages. Also the catalyst of the whole plot basically with Nick keeping his secret from Micah and Ryan when they're supposed to be falling in love and keeping it from then so long and then resolving it so quickly kind of fell flat. I liked all three men but it felt more lust than love between the three of them and a lot of bonding or exploring sex together didn't happen on page which I feel is important if we're supposed to root for them all to be together and see how they all mesh. I loved Micah and Ryan's book and there were parts I liked from this book but I'm a bit more excited about the next book. I'll keep giving this series a try as I do really like the author's other work as well.
Rory Maxwell brings us back to Split Rock Ranch with Something Unexpected, the second book in the Split Rock Ranch series. While this is a stand alone novel, it is definitely better to read the series in order. Nick, has returned to Split Rock Ranch after being away for twenty years. He is coming back to the horse ranch owned by his aunt Maggie, where he spent some of the happiest times of his life. He is coming to tell her that his father is selling her ranch. He is resigned and broken hearted about what he has to do but finds nothing is what he expects. Maggie is out of town and he is faced with Ryan and Micah, the happily married couple who work and live on the ranch. While they are very much in love, Nick stirs something in both of the men that makes them interested in learning more about their new visitor. Nick is knocked over by his growing feelings for not only these men but the ranch, and all of the people on it. This is such a good story. I love all of the people who reside in Split Rock. Micah and Ryan’s book was so amazing I was not sure how I was going to feel about someone coming into their dynamic. Rory Maxwell writes the relationship between the men so well. Nick fills in spaces for Micah and Ryan they didn’t know were there, he makes everything better. This is a high heat m/m/m romance at its best.
Set on a horse ranch, that is run by a sweet and eclectic found family, headed by Maggie.
Book one was the age-gap romance of Ryan and Micah. It was sweet, flirty, and touching. They make a great pair. Micah keeps Ryan on his toes. So it was wonderful to see these guys again, three years on.
When they meet Dominic (Nick), Maggie’s nephew who sets foot on the Ranch twenty years after his last time. He loved the place as a child, before his mom died. Now he’s there for very different reasons. At the orders of his father do his dirty work.
What he finds is Ryan and Micah. Who invite him into their home while he waits for Maggie to come back to the ranch. The attraction between all of them simmers from first sight.
What transpires is a really lovely story of Ryan finding a home in the arms of two terrific men. Not because anything was missing in their relationship, but because sometimes you just find someone who just fits in a way you never knew you were missing.
Although this can be read as a standalone, I'm glad I decided to read Something Undeniable first, a short read it gives us the story of Micah and Ryan's relationship and the background of Split Rock Ranch and the other people who are important side characters in the story.
I really enjoyed Something Unexpected, I do enjoy a MMM relationship done well and while I wasn't sure when I first started, I soon changed my mind and fell in love with Micah, Ryan and Nicky as a threesome. What starts out as attraction between them all, turns into some hot steamy scenes which turn into real feelings.
Nicky arrives unexpectedly at the ranch, there on business for his father which he knows isn't going to go down well and he's not happy about the whole thing. I enjoyed the mystery of why he was there and uncovering what was going on and what they were going to do to stop his father from selling the place out from under them all. I liked that it took all of them as a group to work things out and come up with a solution.
I enjoyed catching up with the other characters and being introduced to a couple more who will play a part in the next book. Split Rock Ranch really is a big family and they all have each other's backs.
When Nick returns to Split Rock Ranch after twenty years, he is not looking forward to it due to the purpose of his visit. Instead of being able to spend time with his favorite aunt after all this time, he brings bad news. Since his aunt isn’t there at the moment, he meets Ryan, the ranch manager, and Micah, the horse trainer, as well as the other workers at the ranch. As he waits for Maggie’s return, he finds himself physically drawn to the married couple, Ryan and Micah. The attraction is mutual, and a relationship grows between the three men. When Maggie does return, the four of them, with help from Nick’s ex Xavier, work to save the ranch from an unscrupulous relative. Great story, hot scenes between the three MC as they work out where the attraction will lead, and well developed main and secondary characters, all contributing to depth of the story. The mind pictures created by the trail ride to the upper meadow brought back memories of a similar ride to a mountain meadow I made over 25 years ago—I could visualize the meadow and mountain lake, the fresh scents, the smell and feel of the horse under me, and the aches in my legs and posterior from the downward ride off the mountain. Very pleasant memory to recall of a special day in a special place with those I loved. Thanks to the author for that special snippet. Good story, worth the read, looking forward to the next book in the series.
I looked down at the number of pages for Something Unexpected when I went to start reviewing and I had to do a double take... it couldn't be 352 pages.... I read the book in one sitting and it just flew...
I sped through Something Unexpected, devouring it in one sitting... it was hot, it was steamy, it was sweet and it had amazing communication between the married couple as they embarked on their first foray into polyamory as a couple and while the communication with Dominic was a little less, it was mostly because he wanted to dive headfirst into whatever he could get...
I had no idea that the first book in the series was Ryan and Micah's story, and while I had the first book on my tbr it was a busy week... so I read this as a standalone and honestly the writing was so good I really didn't need their origin story - but now I'm committed to going back to read it, knowing what I know now!
I can say that you can easily read this standalone if you're just looking for an MMM story with a third being introduced to an established couple, but I'll update once I've read the first book...
Micah and Avery were the MCs in Bk 1 in the series. Now, they're back, married and still as happy as ever. They're also surprised to find they are both highly attracted to Nick, the nephew of the owner, when he shows up at the ranch one day. Nick used to spend time on the ranch as a boy, but when his mother passed away, his father didn't encourage him to return. Now, Nick has been charged by his father with telling his aunt that the ranch is being sold and she must vacate.
All is not as it seems and, with the aunt away to undergo hip surgery, Nick stays for a while and begins to form a connection with Micah and Avery. The connection is hot and passionate, but it also it has a deeper connection that surprises all three men. I enjoyed watching the solution to the ranch dispute unfold. Since the story takes place on a working ranch that trains horses and offers trail rides, there is a good "ranch feel" to the story. This story is well-planned to be cohesive and the throuple's interactions are off-the-charts. It's not always easy to write about threesomes in a way the reader can follow, but this author does a great job. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
I read the blurb and decided that I was NOT going to like this story! Cheating is a hard no for me and for some reason, I just couldn't see Micah and Ryan needed someone else in their relationship... and they didn't. But, that was about all I was right about. Their relationship was complete without Nicky, but with him... it was MORE! It took a while for my brain to get wrapped around that, but once it did... everything fell into place!
Working through MY hang-ups, allowed me to finally dive into the the meat (pun intended) of the story.
