Looking for a real page turner? Keep looking. Having a hard time getting to sleep at night? Well, I've got the book for you! So, why the high rating, you say?
If you look at my reviews, I hand out very few 5-stars. But for what it's intended, Advanced Tax Strategies is one of the best I've read. It's not written for the tax-neophyte who is trying to learn what a capital gain means. Rather, it's targeted to the experienced investor who knows a little bit about most elements of tax strategy, but not really enough to "get it" without their accountant sitting next to them. This book dives deep into how to take advantage of the Jobs Act of 2017, particularly as it relates to investments in real estate. It covers cost segregation/accelerated depreciation, using passive income/losses to your advantage, the intricacies of 1031 Exchanges, Opportunity Zones, UBIT traps for IRAs, etc.
Read in SMALL doses. Rinse and repeat. You may fall asleep quickly, but you'll wake up a wealthier investor.
Excellent and approachable book on real estate and real estate taxes. This book introduces a lot of strategies that every real estate investor should know. They include applicable examples to increase understanding further. Correct implementation of the strategies in this book will save hundreds of thousands of dollars throughout your lifetime.
I read before doing my taxes this year. There’s so many strategies in here to have in your back pocket to be aware of and get excited about real estate for the longterm.
I can't deny the authors of this book seem comptetent, and the advice solid.
However, while technically legal, much of the advice seems morally dubious at best. This is essentially a handbook for tax-avoidance. How to exploit loopholes in the system for personal gain, at the expense of the communities that real estate is located in.
I received an Advanced Review Copy of this book through Goodreads giveaways.
The "sequel" to the authors' first book on tax strategies for real estate investors is an easy to read, approachable and well written book that allows the investor to "issue spot" and ask questions to their tax preparer and legal advisor on deal structuring, 1031 exchanges, Opportunity Zones, self-directed retirement accounts and more. While not as useful or actionable as the first book (which is a five star must read) this book truly is advanced strategies that are not going to be able to be implemented by the investor without professional help. A good read, and if you are pushing that six figure income/seven figure portfolio value, a must read.
This is a very good overview of the latest tax saving strategies for real estate investors. The only thing to keep in mind is the authors own a tax advisor business, so much of the text is subtly pushing investors to their business.
That being said, the strategies provided are sound, and several I'd never heard of.
A must read for anyone who wants to crush real estate and stick it to Uncle Sam by not paying taxes!!! :) It’s a complex read—one I’ll definitely have to return to in order to understand the details, but a quick first read is great to see the broad strokes and endless potential in our tax code using real estate as the vehicle.
This book seemed more interesting in selling you on investing in real estate and discussing the tax benefits that could be gained through real estate investments than on actually teaching how to implement the strategies or providing details needed to do anything beyond ask professionals about the topics discussed in the book.
I thought a tax book on real estate would be boring. I was absolutely wrong. This book is better and more educational than any class I took on real estate in university. Amazing. Must read for any real estate investor!
This is a book on taxes. It is not exciting, but it is well written. The author uses examples that resonate and provides actionable information about taxes. If you are a Real Estate Investor, I would highly recommend this book.
so interesting to me. seems like tax code really incentivizes home/rental property ownership and key to maximizing the returns are understanding and planning around the benefits, which this book explains clearly and with good examples. about as interesting as a book on taxes can be!
Love the detail they go into at many points in this book.
Obviously you’ll want an advisor before entering into many of these strategies to ensure it’s for you, but this grants you a great foundation to go off of.
Like I've said, I'm a geek for taxes and tax-planning, so I loved this book. I think Amanda Han is an exceptional teacher and communicator, and her books greatly enrich and improve her reader's understanding of complex concepts, and ability to take action.
Highly recommended tax strategy book. Up to date and covers a wide category of tax strategies from 1031 to opportunity zones. Quick read to get the REI wheels greased
Quick read and stories illustrate so well how to prepare and gotchas. Answered quite a few questions I had and had a lot of aha moments reading it to. Definitely going to reread this!
For an introduction to real estate taxes, it's pretty good. Good use of storytelling to teach. Very enjoyable experience as an audiobook or light read.
Very helpful book for advanced tax strategies for real estate investors. If you haven’t read their first book I recommend starting with that before diving into some of these more advanced tax saving strategies for real estate investors. One of my favorite takeaways is to always remember tax savings strategies only benefit you if you’re actually making enough income so don’t let your investments be driven by tax strategies. As they said, “in other words, don’t let the tax tail wag the investment dog.” However, if implemented correctly there are some great tax strategies that can truly save you THOUSANDS of $$$ in taxes! Recommend reading for experienced real estate investors!
Real Estate Investors MUST understand taxes and tax strategy and this book does a great job explaining how to incorporate tax strategy into your investing business.
