In my opinion a marked improvement from the previous books
I really enjoyed a few changes from the previous books.
1. Less use of profanity stand ins 2. The tactician skill giving the overlay was more prominent and gave a nice game like feel to combat. 3. The lack of Keith and the pseudo-romantic thing that had been going on with Cayla helped a lot. 4. The lack of griping about money was amazing! Like he complains a bit, but it’s reasonable!
There are also some interesting plot points here that I’m going to enjoy watching play out, especially his lingering quests regarding the Glutton from Humania. It seems unlikely for him to complete those as he moves on to new continents, so getting that resolved could be interesting.
Aaron Oster has litRPG down to a science and this book adds to that premise. This series doesn’t feature any romantic arcs or superfluous filler, it’s damn near nonstop intrigue and action. Certainly makes it hard to put down. I’m definitely looking forward to the next one!
We Hunt Monsters is slightly different than some of his other books but the author always delivers on quality!! It was fun, action packed, amazing magic system. Can’t wait for the next one!
I just want to say Aaron, I'm a huge fan of all your books, and I absolutely loved every single one of them. I can't imagine how much work you put in to constantly be pumping out masterpieces like you do, but I greatly appreciate it. Your books are one of the only things I look forward to and they bring me so much joy when you publish them. However I want to tell you to get plenty of rest and maybe even take a break. You have been publishing these books so fast that I'm afraid you might inadvertently harm yourself in some way by overworking. You have definitely earned yourself a break. I loved your book and keep uo the great work.
I have read all the author’s series and this is my favorite by far. Just crunchy enough to satisfy my need for the RPG element without distracting from the story, yet enough that it is still a LitRPG and not just a fantasy. Great story and absolutely fantastic MC.
The journey of Kieth continues! I am looking forward to what’s to come, but all the new side players introduced in this one have the ability to seriously boost some power. Plus there was a fallout to my favorite weapon 😁
Always enjoy reading more about Keith and his brutal nature. Had good pacing and interesting content. Wish more time was potentially spent on Keith’s interactions with others but I stayed interested the whole way through so I can’t complain too much.
Enjoyed the humor. Enjoyed the decisive MC. Enjoyed the world building. Enjoyed the action. Enjoyed a fun read. No harem, no constant self reflection, no teenagers.
Another good adventure with a high powered MC vs OP monsters
The MC has leveled up quite alot in the short time that he arrived on this world. The monsters he takes on become more and more OP (over-powered), yet he finds a way to defeat them though many of his allies dont make it due to the monsters ridiculous stats.
There is some levity regarding the MC's driving skills and l enjoyed the thrashing of the rat of Soarharbor. However, the MC has some disturbing quirks, namely he seems to be asexual as well as emotionally detached from everyone. Although he works more closely with his guide Bob, everyone he has met so far has been kept at arms length. This is especially true for the Vamp Kayla, then with Bridget the Torkgoblin. He was constantly in life-threatning situations with them which should have ignitied more intense relationships, either physical or emotional yet he remains detached and unavailable. This is quite shortsighted because in order to accomplish his goal of defeating all of the world bosses, he WILL have to develop strong and close suppporting relationships. No one will engage in such a large cause without strong emotional ties and "one is too small a number to accomplish anything great!" In "Bio of a space tyrant" Piers Anthony introduced the concept that people who wont fu*k, also wont fight. The MC fights, but seems to have no other interests which is very strange and rather unrelatable because people need people or they can go down some very dark paths. In other words, that dude needs a girlfriend (though we dont need to go into the bedroom with them).
On another note, l see that sinister forces are gathering to oppose the MC. The Glutton, Jade, the Vamps and their minions, the elemental spirits, the Alchemist guild and the Ulter clan. Thats quite a bit of opposition with opportunities for interesting storytelling. There can be intrigue, greed, spycraft, organized crime, romantic entanglements, bloodletting and maybe even a high speed vehicle adventure.
Once again, I'm enjoying the story, but there is an interpersonal void that l think would improve the tale if it was incorporated. Fortunately its not too late so l look forward to the next installment.
Beastland is a new continent full of intrigue and monsters
As Keith heads to Beastland, he finds his way into more mysterious happenings, including villagers on the outskirts of the territory disappearing entirely over night. Keith feels something off about it and investigates, leading him into some serious fights and he meets some dubious figures. Sadly, there is so much more going on on Beastland that being human makes him a target of hate, especially from the alchemists guild on this continent. As he once again picks up a female mage on his travels with his guide Bob, Keith must constantly weigh whether he can trust anyone with the knowledge that he has a sage skill. Which could be a deadly secret if anyone found out and decided to act, the level cap on this continent is much higher at 65, and his early 40s level won’t do much to help him if they come for him. So secrecy is the best policy. World monsters and raid bosses are at the highest danger levels and Keith must use all his skills, abilities and some items to come out on top.
This one was a bit more rough. There were multiple moments where names were mixed up. Also, I get hiding some of the action for a bigger surprise but this was just unnecessary. Keith is starting to just be too unwieldy of a character, knowing everything until he does something that even a normal level will know to make him "not perfect". It's annoying how obvious it is to try and tamp down on how unreasonably overpowered he's been. This one was not good. I'll continue on not there better be some training behind the absurdist way many characters acted this time out I think it will be time to close this series out
Good continuation of the story starting a new arc. The plot and world grow larger but feels natural, with many larger goals for the MC to go after. Action continues to fun to read and the pace remains quick and unrelenting, allowing for an exciting ride. New ideas and items are introduced in natural ways. Keith himself is growing as a character but remains consistent in his core beliefs. The side characters continue to get better, with the new ones introduced here a pleasant difference than in previous books.
Fun, a definite set up book, but still pretty good.
If this just keeps away from incredibly forced storylines that do not mesh well with the overall series it will be fine. Looking at you, book one and two.
I'm still liking the series, but the author is on the cusp of losing me. I feel the story is being stretched out - spread thin, perhaps, instead of being more robust. I'll check the next one, but we might be winding up due to lack of interest.
I keep meaning to write a review, and here i am on the fourth book.... I can't stop Reading long enough to write one 😂 Really tho, the series is amazing. I'm very much enjoying Keith's journey. On to the next!
Keith heads to a new continent and gets up to his usual mischief. I really enjoyed the worldbuilding and new chaos Keith got involved in. Great action and a new, fascinating mystery revealed. Looking forward to the next book in the series!
An interesting beginning to the next part of the series. The system seems to be more empathetic to Keith's predicament. A few fun new characters and some new challenges.
