¿Sinceramente? No me gustó.

The story of Ginmokusei no Shitateya/Ginmokusei:The Tailor Shop follows Ubuki Takabayashi a 35 years old ex-salary man who is struggling to keep his late grandfather's tailor shop a float that he has inherited.
The shop is located in a very pricey and trending area called Ginza.
Shops are said to close down regularly because they cannot afford to keep their shops a float and retain their customers.
After trying every method he knew to keep the shop a float he is reunited with a man named Theo Nakamura an 30 years old ex-maître d'hôtel - who met Ubuki during one of his drunken nights.
This man claims he could improve the shop's sales and help save Ubuki's shop from closing down.
The process of both Theo and Ubuki methods of advertising their rebrand of Ubuki's grandfather's tailor shop, learning more about running a business on their own as well as starting new careers in their 30s was enjoyable to read and I wish more was shown on screen.
The relationship between them was sweet but not much has happened between them until the end of volume 2 because the story was mainly focused on the shop and of course Ubuki's lost memories of Theo that said I enjoyed watching their interactions.
The artwork is beautiful.
The suits are elegant, classy and sophisticated and the colors are vibrant.
I wish Mamita released a collection of suits both Ubuki and Theo wore along with never before seen suits Ubuki mentioned ordering for his shop.
I liked most of the supporting characters but I didn't care for Ubuki's cheating ex-boyfriend or the man who harassed and harmed Theo at his last job.
It's interesting to see that both Theo and Ubuki are older than me which is refreshing to see because characters in manga are usually in their teens or very early 20s.
Let's hope this trend of older and of age characters in MxM manga continues.

Highkey wasn't prepared for the romp this two-parter was?! :D
Volume 2 has all the steam, whilst this is more than tame. Unconventional setting, a Yuri on Ice-esque meet cute and ensuing shenanigas. We love people passionate about their cause, we love people so smitten they drop everything for their love and the MC is giving me leaner Iwaizumi Hajime SO MUCH, I just can't :D

CNs: this one is handled as a spoiler by the plot, but: MC is led to believe he drunkenly had sex with the love interest, but in volume two i turns out that actually wasn't the case. So luckily no actual non-con, but why the love interest said it in the first place is kinda icky

You know, solid start to a manga. Imagine starting a business with a stranger that turns out to be someone you hooked up with. And next thing you know he’s fixing up your store and YOU. And the only payment he asks for as kisses when they’re due at the end of the month.. That’s it. An extreme slow burn but the men are so handsome!

⭐4 - liked it
Translator:

I think this manga settled it for me that I really like this mangaka. Their art is lovely and the story is not that special but there are enough moments in there that feel like a hot bath.

So on I went to get everything they have published in English for a surprisingly good price!

This one grew on me. The ml is a little annoying. Definitely needed a second volume.

Cw of dubious consent (spoiler the mc is lead to believe something sexual happened, but that wasn't the case...which is kinda a downer)

The wait for the print release was well worth it. This is my second work that I've read by Mamita and my second 5 star read from them. Their art style is beautiful and the story progressed nicely. I am eagerly awaiting the next printed volume.

An official license! Which, since Kuma picked it up, hit a bunch of delays so it'll be a bit before I get the second volume. I've actually kind of forgotten how that one went, so I enjoyed the mystery of this first volume all over again. Lovely art, nice storytelling. Glad to have it in physical form.

Original Review October 29, 2023

This reminds me a bit of 女王と仕立て屋 Joou to Shitateya , since they're both set in a tailor's shop. (And since neither has a official English license...they would both fit really well with Sublime.)

There's a lot of mystery in volume 1; why is Theo so invested (emotionally and monetarily) in a failing shop being run by a guy with whom he had a one night stand? Does Theo have a tragic past as well - is that why he left his job?

The relationship growth is paced well, not overly rushed since it's split into two volumes. We spend the first two chapters with Theo helping Ubuki to bring his grandfather's shop into modern-day success, and gently reminding Ubuki that he is romantically very interested, whenever Ubuki is ready to pursue that.

I like that Theo (so far anyway) isn't holding anything over Ubuki's head or trying to leverage them into a relationship that Ubuki doesn't have the emotional capacity to handle while he's still dealing with familial guilt/grief and the stress of running a business he wasn't really prepared to take over.

The art is lovely, and there's a good balance of showing what it's like to run a successful business, without the story getting bogged down in that.
