Sometimes Small Towns Have Secrets. Masterson, Wyoming is no exception.
When the Masterson brothers meet the redheaded Tyler sisters, anything can happen. But can the brothers stop the threats coming for them all?
In Seeking the Sheriff, Sheriff Joel Masterson shows up on Phoebe Tyler's doorstep with her drunken younger brother in tow. Joel takes one look at Phoebe and falls hard and fast. Probably faster than he should! But when his current investigation gets too close to Phoebe and her family, Joel will have to act even faster. Before the men wanting revenge on her family take Phoebe away forever…
In Discovering the Doctor, quiet veterinarian Matt Masterson knows he needs to take things slowly with the sweet, shy, wounded Pip Tyler. She has secrets in her past that cause soul-deep hurts, and the last thing he wants to do is rush her. He's willing to go as slow as she needs—he knows she's the woman meant for him, and he'll wait as long as it takes. But another man's obsession for Pip might destroy them both first…
In Ruining the Rancher, rancher Levi Masterson has always been successful at everything he's ever tried. He's used to acting fast. He takes one look at Pandora Tyler and knows this redheaded trouble-maker is his soul-mate. Only problem is, Pandora isn't so convinced! And she's a bit more than Levi, with all his schemes and plans, could ever prepare for. But someone else wants Levi, and she's doing some scheming of her own. She's going to get him… even if it means getting that upstart maid Pandora Tyler out of the way… Permanently.
In Denying the Devil, Dr. Nate Masterson has had a real thing for nurse Persephone Tyler from the moment they first met. Long before his brothers fell so hard for her sisters. But the way they snapped and snarled at each other told him one thing—these enemies should definitely not become lovers. All of that changes when a young child needs them both to protect her and he and Perci are forced to put aside their differences for that little girl. But someone with a grudge against the Mastersons and the Tylers is focused on Perci now. And Nate is the only one standing between her and the threat. There is nothing Nate won't do to protect his fiery little enemy now…
Calle Jaye is fun, playful, ironic, professional and sophisticated. She’s super-educated in the field of fiction and would spend most of her time walking around in “Book World” (or”eBook World”).
Does she have slight control freak tendencies? Yep. Why else would she chose to self-publish?
In her day job she gets to read romance novels. In her night job she gets to write them!
Her favorite color is bold purple. She likes rock like Kid Rock, Shinedown, and Nickelback. Add in a bit of Anastacia and Adelle, too.
She collects rocks. Watches crime dramas. Abhors Lifetime Movies and Titanic (especially Leo…) and refuses to read or write about sparkly teen vampires.
She’s married to a cop she strongly suspects is a vampire. They’ve made vampire babies, too.
They live in Indiana with their vampire relatives and their vampire dogs.
Calle Brookes knows what evil is, how opposites can attract, and can wrap it up in an unique story!
I fell in love with Calle Brookes when I first read "Seeking the Sheriff" so coming across this boxset of the Masterson County Books 1-4 at a great bargain was a blessing.
Calle Brookes knows her small town, USA. She demonstrates that knowledge in her Masterson County. Calle shows the good side of small town living where everyone chips in to help everyone else. But in a town where everyone knows your name, it can be easy to for one bad apple to tar a whole family that shares the same name. Ms Brookes builds great stories on this premise. Her small town stories contain well -developed characters with easily understood goals and motivation.
I love that these are not your usual romantic suspense novels. The Tyler women are not damsels in distress, but resilient survivors who have persevered through a slew of obstacles designed to bring them down. Also there is a strong element of the heart knows what the heart wants and the idea that opposites can be perfect matches. The love that Calle Brookes writes about develops slowly and naturally and reminds the reader of those moments when you knew love you felt was true love. I find her heroes and heroines very relatable and sigh worthy! The love scenes enhance the story but never overwhelm the plot. They are not as explicit as I thought they would be. There is the right amount of Spice but the actual acts are sweet, like those scenes in the old movies, where the big build up to lovemaking cuts away to the gentle breeze blowing the curtains in the bedroom.
There is always a danger, a mysterious villain to uncover in these novels, with plenty of twists and turns to keep my interest. From the first page to the last I was totally entertained and reluctant to put the books down. Calle Brookes is not afraid to include sensitive topics of abuse, corruption and revenge. But she handles these topics with sensitivity and empathy. And ends every story with a happy ending, a must for any writer I include on my Must Read shelf.
Masterson County collection is a magnificent series, I would recommend to any fan of romantic suspense with strong heroines and hunky heroes.
These four short novellas were mostly sweet romances with a lot of suspense and action. They were interesting and fairly enjoyable to read, but there were many issues that kept this collection from collecting stars, not the least of which was pretty horrible editing and some actions taken that were inconsistent with the personae of the characters.
I have rated and reviewed each of the four included books separately under their own titles.
Overall PG13 for violence. Almost no language. Very little sex, and all of that is non-explicit or implied. However, book#3 revolves around the historical attempted rape of the main character, and definitely needs a trigger warning (see my review for details).
'The Masterson County Collection' was filled with four thrilling, suspenseful, and action-filled tales. All of them involved the Masterson brothers: Joel, the sheriff; Matt, the veterinarian; Levi, the rancher; and Nate, the doctor along with the beautiful red-haired and blue-eyed Tyler sisters: Phoebe, Phillipa (Pip) who was Persephone's (Perci) identical twin, and Pandora (Pan) who was the youngest. The brothers and sisters tried to find their HEAs as they either battled fires, floods, the Rutherfords, the Gundersons, and/or Viv Preston. Add in Rowland Bowles' directions for a movie filmed on the Masterson ranch and the excitement was never-ending. Oh my goodness! I thoroughly liked the compelling narratives.
Fast, quick, easy reads with mostly likable main characters! Some rough, uncouth elements named Jay and Clive. Loose moral standards within relationships and very predictable plot endings. Some language. Close family relationshipips was a big plus.
I bought the box set with four stories, but don't plan to read any more in this series, but if you like country and western type stories, you may enjoy these.
I really loved this series of books. Great job! The characters were interesting and beautiful in their own different ways. The books tied all of the characters together yet kept them separate. I really enjoy romantic suspense novels and this series had all that, plus I can recommend this series to everyone to enjoy.
This four book set is amazing! I could not stop reading! If you love romance and scary suspense these books are for you! Now to find the rest of the Masterson County books!
Called Brookes is a phenomenal writer. She hooks you in every series family so you can't wait for the next one. Very seldom does an author come along who can consistently do this.
It was one hell of a ride. The family dynamics were so good, and I really like these kind stories with big loving families. Loved Ivy. Wish she'd talked more and really looking forward to read the romantic suspense series with Clint.
I really enjoyed reading the Masterson/Tyler romances. The characters were interesting and the plots were exciting and scary too. It's always good when the good guys win and the guy gets the girl.
Always enjoy books written by Calle Brookes. She has a way of mixing romance in with adventure, enough to keep you reading to find out what will happen next!
This was an okay book. It seems as though each couple basically had the same problem. They fought their feelings for each other and some not liking the Tylers or the Mastersons. I think Perci and Nate fought their attraction the most.
This book is a romantic suspense novel about Joel & Phoebe, Matt & "Pip" , Levi & "Pan", Nate & "Perci" getting together with each other. This is a great story. HEA
I enjoyed reading about the Masterson's and Tylers. Each book is a standalone, but by reading all four in line, they brought the reader into the heart of these families.
Excellent read. I recommend this book. Captivating throughout the books, excellent author. Thank you for creating these books. Highly recommend you read.
4 brothers falling for 4 sisters. Each has a good story line that interconnect that has clean romance with some mystery and drama. All enjoyable stories.
