Never in her life has Harlow felt as low as she does now. Even a beating from her mother was easier to take then the humiliation she just suffered at the hands of the Summer’s siblings. Unable to return home due to a promise made to her foster father, she has to stay on until her commitments have concluded. With her new friends Alex and Shane trying to convince her to stay and her grandparents and father of the same mind, Harlow’s heart is torn in two. But a mysterious phone call and a possible job opportunity may just swing the pendulum to one side.
Pages: 313 My rating: 3.5 Read other books by this author in the future: yes MC: Harlow, Thomas, Declan, Holden, Jaxon, Oliver, Kai SC: Maxine/Max, Nana, Poppy, Brad, Emma, Hope, Alex, Shane, Jace, Josh Bad Guys? Cecilia, Luke
This is a slow book and it‘s about only less than a week in Harlows and the Summers life. It starts right where the last one ended, the two mornings after the Desaster from Hell, aka the gold digger incident. And Harlow has to go back to Brads house, because the horses will be delivered shortly.
I liked that the siblings are changing their opinion regarding Harlow and start to treat her better. Also the relationship between her and Brad moves forward, but there could have been more afford from his side. I like Hope, she is a great friend for Harlow.
I did not like the retelling in the chapters where we get the POV of one of Brad’s adopted kids. It was to much repetition without adding to the story. If those chapters were left out, some other stuff could have been addressed.
I am looking forward to the next two books and on the authors homepage are ideas for Jacintas story, Maxs story and also other persons and bands from Neighplam Industries Collective ( https://www.lexiewinston.com/future-p... ).
This was ok. I'm not going to say this was a amazing follow up from the first book because it wasnt. This book took an extreme amount of time to be released, and I actually had to re-read the first one. Now this book had a few thing's happening, but not enough to keep me from skimming. it was mostly a filler book, and the things that do occur have the dramatic pull, but they are also why out of the realm of reality. I think the story starts really picking up at 98%, pretty much the end. I'm going to continue the next book, but if it's a book to stretch out and just make money, i will not finish.
The writing was decent probably a 3/5 max and the plot was fairly good. I liked the whole adopted family vs blood family dynamic that was going, especially Jacinta. She added a nice complexity to the situation because she isn't just some girlfriend but rather a permanent fixture in the story. While I admire Harlow's strength, I wish she wasn't so nice to Jacinta and was a little more spiteful. Maybe it's petty of me, but I would have liked Jacinta to be gone or at least their family relationship with her somewhat permanently damaged after what she did. Maybe it ends up that way in the later books but I honestly could not continue reading after finding out that Holden and Oliver had a thing for each other.
The whole future relationship between Harlow and the brothers was something I could get behind after a little convincing. The fact that they would have grown up together as siblings is what made it a little awkward for me but since they weren't blood and didn't grow up together made it okay. However I think I have to draw the line at Holden and Oliver. They were raised as brothers and have a thing for each other?? Regardless of blood, that'd be completely weird. Imagine if Jacinta secretly felt the same way about one of her adopted brothers. I'm not really a fan of m/m in reverse harems because I feel like it detracts from the whole 'head over heels for the mc' idea but this is something else.
Lastly, I'd generously given the writing a 3/5 but the way the book randomly kept selling the poly relationship didn't flow together at all. Why on Earth would their pilot randomly bring that up? So awkward and such a forced situation. Usually I stick to paranormal RH's just because they're usually better at explaining how it would function in normal society. For example, the whole mates to shifters thing works because they're bonded pack brothers. Contemporary rh's have a harder time selling it, but usually do it better than this. Overall, don't waste your time on this series, I'm not even convinced some editing would fix all the issues.
Just as a side note about Harlow as well, she's not that interesting of a main character. Pretty boring even with all the drama happening around her. She likes horses, complaining about her best friend's friends, and being passive. This might be a personal thing but on top of the other issues I couldn't help but notice that. The brothers are pretty lame too outside of their respective businesses.
First off: this is a solid book and a good read. Okay, now that I've got that out of the way, if the first book left me conflicted because I didn't like the harem guys *at all* then this book has left me kinda disgusted with both them and the FMC. The way the guys treated her? The things they pulled? The billboard?! (Yes, I know Jacinta did it, but most of the guys *laughed*!!!) Unforgivable. But somehow, the FMC did, just cause, and it felt a bit fake and rushed and just generally kinda icky. So I'm not sure where that leaves me, because I definitely think that Harlow could, and should, do better. Her adopted brothers are just a**holes.
I was so excited to read this book and Lexie did not disappoint! Broken Girl picks up where the first book leaves off. Harlow is dealing with the betrayal of people she was beginning to trust, and let’s just say her dad and a few others were not to happy either. I absolutely loved getting to know all of the Summers better, as well as what they do in NI, and I really enjoyed how Harlow handled everything that happened. I don’t want to give to much away, but the plot thickens in this book! It is incredibly written and the ending nearly did me in! It ends with a huge cliffhanger, but knowing Lexie it will be well worth the book hangover! I cannot wait for the next book!
Loved the first book and this one is even better! The narrators do a fantastic job bringing the characters to life! Loved seeing a bit of character development in this one. Binged it in one day! Can’t wait to dive into the next installment!!
I was super excited for this book, I loved the first one. But this was too short, and it felt even shorter with all of the different viewpoints. If done well, more than one voice can add depth to a story, but everyone other than Harlow I found myself having to force myself to read that section. So many of the guy's POVs seemed pointless, and I especially hate it when it repeats verbatim something that happened in the previous POV. It wastes to much of the book! Anyway, I'll read the next one, after I wait another 4 months. But honestly, there was too much stalker drama in this one and not nearly enough of the developing relationships between them all.
I'm still enjoying not only the story but also the audiobook.
The FMC's new extended family members are finally starting to come around but her arrival as the newest member of the Neighpalm Industries family member has attracted unwanted attention from a stalker who is proving to be more and more dangerous while never making any actual demands. Odd for a stalker, but this person simply wants to hurt and destroy.
I'm having a bit of trouble keeping all six guys straight and I don't think it's due to the audiobook, I believe we just haven't had enough time to learn more about all of them. This is a long series so it's not bothering me, I'm sure we will get to know them all more closely as the series goes on.
I originally planned to switch to reading instead of the audiobook, but the series isn't available on KU so I haven't fully decided if I would rather buy the ebooks or use my many Audible credits. I'm enjoying listening to it, so I'll probably continue with the audiobooks for now.
3.5⭐️ -3.75⭐️ — Im being hesitant on my full assessment of this book because it seemed to do a lot in terms of character development, but the plot outside of that seems a tad trite so far… but hoping the author proves me wrong, I’ll leave leeway in my evaluation.
I wrote this on goodreads, but since I don’t want to write something different, here’s my half-assed review (despite not being able to edit it here 🙄):
Side note, as my medium of choice is via Audible: it drove me NUTS when the OBVIOUSLY IRISH Tomas RANDOMLY got a French accent in one of the later chapters. Either the voice actress had the understanding the character was French and they re-did the scenes in Tomas’s POV with the accent, just missed that WHOLE chapter… OR, the voice actress is working multiple books and got confused. Either way, the producers & subsequent editors got lazy and didn’t do their job. It was a large contributor to my downgrade in rating. French & Irish accents are VERY different in terms of vibes, generated by (assuming American POV) societal stereotypes… French: moody, sexy, serious. Irish: Light hearted, fun and also sexy.
The bullying continues and the petty behaviors seem to never end. Harlow is like a punching bag for her lame siblings who can't see past their jealousy and misconceptions. Even though Harlow is related to their father by blood and came from nothing, they assume she's a gold digger and really go about their way to be as mean as possible. Honestly I'm getting over it and really need Harlow to bring out her claws. Now that her actual livelihood and reputation is slowly being tarnished I really need her to stop taking their shit. I'm just not 100% sure how I am to accept any of them when they're all so horrible and just plain mean for no reason. Everyone else in the family vouches for Harlow and have known her all their lives but her new siblings can't see past their own issues. It's weird how she's fully embraced this new life and family so I really hope her backbone thickens and the lust she feels even as they are belittling her turns to revenge. Sexual tension is high and the drama continues to grow. I'm hooked and even though it's starting to feel a bit predictable I'm excited for where this is going.
This is book two of the series and it picks up right after the explosive unveiling of the infamous billboard. Harlow is now dusting herself off and planning her revenge on the Summer’s kids, and we get to be a fly on the wall and see exactly how she decides to handle this huge act of betrayal.
As things escalate within the new family she is now a part of, another issue quickly rises that puts Harlow’s safety in jeopardy and it also seems to be leaking onto other members of the household. Harlow now has a stalker, and they seem intent on getting her out of family, as well if not more than her treacherous sister.
As Harlow battles through all these issues, she is still trying to build a relationship with her father, her grandparents, and trying to decide how to move forward with her life after the chaos.
This is such a fantastic addition to this new series, it has huge highs and lows, it has me laughing like a loon at some points....and has me crying in pain at others!
If you are looking for a book that will be “a great escape” from the reality of life we are currently living in, then this is the book for you! Don’t hesitate to one click this book now, you NEED this book in your library!
Thank you Lexie Winston for another fantastic book....and the ‘dance’....🤣🤣🤣
This book was even better than the last and I am super excited for the next. I was glad to see the character development and to learn more about the kids.
Harlow is a great blend of blend of confident and damaged— enough to make her compelling. I also like that she’s taking the higher road for the moment. You don’t see that a lot in bully, and I was intrigued.

I was so excited to get an ARC and Lexie did not disappoint!!!! It starts off on the aftermath of the first book and Harlow’s relationships with her dad and the Summer’s kids(adults) and how each of them deals with it. Harlow was a better person and didn’t snoop down to Juanita’s level, even though she thought about it! And the mystery with a stalker now threatening Harlow and now also Juanita! I so had my eye on Luke and then after Celia stormed out of the house, kinda wondering if it’s both of them!!! And that ending, OMG!!! Holden got shot!!!!!

Happy with book 2. Did not waiver. Did not become dull. It kept the 'wow' and the 'whaaaat?' and the 'what the hell!'. Damn, these Summer's kids really have been screwed over, and they are going to get a taste of bitterness when more karma comes. And seriously, the stalker has me questioning everyone! Going to book three now!
So,book 1 i really loved! This book was very underwhelming. And, to be fair I skimmed the whole book. I was bored and kept hoping things would get better. It was only the last 15% things picked up with Harlow and Jacinta having a stalker. In a lot of ways this felt like a filler book. But, I think with the stalker plot, book 3 should be more exciting!
The definition of dysfunctional. Each of the Summers siblings are flawed. Six men and one woman, all adopted from dysfunctional families. Each with internal scars that rule their family dynamics. Throw in one long-lost biological daughter with scars of her own, and you have the makings for a powder keg ready to explode. Add in a little outside interference and you have a story bursting with tension. Broken Girl will keep you on the edge of your seat as the tension and lust builds. If you like step-brother romance, this one is bound to please. Can't wait for the next in the series.
What can I say......... Lexie Winston has done it again! She has brought us a scintillating second book in the Neighpalm Industries series that grabs your attention from the beginning and holds on through the emotional rollercoaster until the endless drop at the end. It will have you begging for more. Harlow is still breaking the surface on the Summers family and learning to cope with stunt that the kids pulled. We get to see new faces while learning more about the past as Harlow becomes resilient to the Summers kids games. Not everything is what it seems as more of the relationships start to unfold. Fabulous!! I cannot wait for the next book! 💜🖤
4.5 stars. I was looking forward to this book and I read it in a day! I love the characters however I would like more development. Even though I did cry at the halfway point, the shocking and sad moment at the end of the book failed to affect me, mostly because I was not as attached to certain members in the harem as I would have liked.
Her new family isn't what she had hoped for. Her new siblings haven't exactly welcomed her with open arms. In fact, they have been openly hostile. Snide remarks, petty insults, harsh accusations, and cruel pranks all intended to drive her away. However, she has obligations to her foster family to meet before she can consider leaving. Fortunately, she has her new friends, Alex and Shane, and now Hope for support. This is her chance at forging a relationship with her dad, she's not going to give up so easily.
There was a little letdown in this book after a strong first book. It was entertaining but lost its way a little. Harlow hasn't come to life like I had hoped. Where is the girl who won Nana and Poppy's love and admiration? What makes her special? She's pretty, intelligent, hard-working but I need more. Even more, I am disappointed in the guys. Following your spiteful, insecure sister's nasty wishes is not a good look. I am not impressed. Where are the strong, sexy, secure men? Finally, there's Jacinta. Poor little rich girl. I'm sure in the next book, she will get her redemption story. Truth? I don't care. She's not worth the effort as far as I'm concerned. I certainly don't care about her story with Alex and Shane.
What is with this family? Why do they have such bad judgment regarding friends, employees, and romantic interests? Did no one in this family get over their childhood trauma? They've all been in therapy; did it not work for anyone? I can't stress enough how I don't feel that their childhoods justify their behavior now. Their behavior comes across as spoiled, insecure, and jealous; not the result of trauma. Honestly, they all need to grow up and Brad needs to step up and put an end to their nasty antics. Still, I have hope these characters all win me over in the next book.
The mystery stalker has taken center stage. There are 2 obvious suspects. I'm interested to see if there ends up being a surprise twist or if it will end up being as transparent as it seems. Hopefully, the series will regain its momentum in book 3.
I flopped back and forth between 4 and 5 stars. But in reality, I couldn't stop reading this book despite its flaws. It hooked me when a lot of books lately have struggled so I gave it the 5 stars for that. I love that Harlow has interests that are out of the ordinary. Abandoned buildings? I always giggle a bit about it because its one of my secret pleasures. Its nice to see its different. What I didn't like about this book was how the POVs were done. When they added nothing to the story, why do we have to jump back in time to another character's POV? It doesn't fit the book and is really irritating. It breaks the flow. Harlow forgives too easily. She was so hard on Oliver but in the middle of this book just has a change of heart and is trying to be nice to the brothers. Including Jaxon and Declan who were part of the trio of evil. Why? They are awful people. They have slandered her out there for the entire world to see. Jacinta is pretty much a b*tch and trying to explain away her behavior with her being so damaged is just reaching. Its excusing behavior that should have been corrected ages ago but was left unchecked for too long. Its good that she is being put in her place now, but trying to still sweep it under the rug and give her an out makes me want to facepalm each time it happens in the book. Its obvious she has issues but she really just seems spoiled and jealous. I can see the author is trying to reverse course with her, but its gonna take a lot for me to actually care one iota for her character. Even the other characters talk about her behind her back.
This next book in the series is more of a whodunnit in the wake of the billboard scandal from the last book. Lexie’s being sabotaged in dangerous ways, and when Jacinta swears she didn’t do it they think they have a stalker on their hands. Look, I thought it was super obvious who the culprit was, but I cannot confirm as she doesn’t find out in this book. (Though I just read blurbs and this is still a mystery by book six! My guess is either wrong or these people are not as intelligent as claimed.) Luckily I bought the boxsets so I’ll get to the answer eventually. Everything is very slow build, but at least faster than Ghost Bird. There’s not a huge amount that happens plot-wise, but some headway made on friendship with the guys. There’s a lot of blatant lust and sexual desire from the guys’ POVs, and so many hints about polyamory in the lead up to something forming. It is a series where ninety eight percent of the female cast are trash, even when it makes zero sense for them to be in their positions with their behaviour. Of the four new female characters added in here, one is amazing and the other three are completely juvenile catty four-year olds. And there was another female character introduced (just won’t be part of the ongoing series I assume) who was also awful. Harlow is very much one of those MCs that men want and women hate. This one ends on a giant cliff hanger with an evil author note. She knows what she’s doing to us.
This is the second book in the series and it picks up right where the first left off. I don't want to give away any spoilers so if you read the first book you know what an ending it was! Harlow has been recovering from the betrayal from the Summer siblings and trying to figure out how she wants to move forward. Is getting to know her new dad and grandparents worth all of the trouble and backlash she is facing from his children?
As we follow Harlow in this second book and get to know the family a bit better we also start to see a new threat on the horizon and this time it may not be from the Summer siblings. This new threat adds a whole new dynamic and mystery to the book that I can't wait to explore more in the next installment.
Harlow continues to grow in this book and I loved how she handled the situation and her response to each sibling (she was way more mature and brave about it than I think I would have been). Easily Shane and Alex were two of my favorite characters from the first book (I mean who wouldn't want them as friends?!) and they continue to be supportive and generous as ever and I was so glad to get more time with them. There were a few new introductions in this book that I think have the potential of shaking up some of the Summer siblings relationship and I'm interested in seeing more of them.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book but I was sad that we didn't get to really know all the Summer siblings as individuals. There were a few that more featured than others but this books gives us a glimpse into all of their lives and minds and I couldn't have loved it more. This was a great installment in the series and I can't wait to read more!
Thank you Lexi for the ARC and I can't wait for Tormented Girl!!
Harlow takes a few days to build her walls back up. Jacinta’s billboard hurt but Harlow isn’t gonna be that easy to scare away. She has to get Chuck’s horses ready at Brad’s house and she wants a relationship with her father. Things start to escalate quickly and a stalker is trying to get Harlow and threatening not only her but Brad’s adopted kids. Jacinto might not have been able to run Harlow away but the stalker might.
The hot and cold Harlow is getting from the guys is so much fun to read. It isn’t too much angst, it is just right. They want her but are trying to fight it. It’s hard to say no when Harlow is just a such a magnetic person, she is kind, funny, spunky and not trying to get in the guy’s pants.
There are a few people who I think could be the stalker and I like that the author dropped little things here and there that makes you suspicious of them. I am hoping it does end up being one of them and not some random person that you didn’t even know existed.
I immediately fell in love with this storyline and characters after reading Abandoned Girl. I was unsure of what would happen in Broken Girl based on the way the first book ended (no teasers!) Harlow is a strong FMC and this strength did not waiver in Broken Girl. I respected her a lot more for the decisions she makes because clearly, Harlow has more common sense than her new siblings. I enjoyed getting to see more behind the scenes of the various Neighpalm Industry businesses along with the addition of Hope (she's hands down my favorite secondary character!) The plot developed well, the suspense was excellent, and the drama only gets more intense. Although the series is a slow burn, it's 100% worth the wait! You can watch as the sexual tension continues to develop and it's getting hotter (yes!) And the cliffhanger? Yikes. I was left craving more, which is a testament to how well Lexie writes. I cannot wait until book three is released. Well done, Lexie!
