I’m all about the chase. Everything that comes after getting the girl? I’d rather swallow glass. That’s why taken women are my type. Don’t like it? You don’t have to. However, my newest challenge is full of surprises. She’s temptation poured into a silhouette of dangerous curves. And she’s onto me. So is HR at the office. Both quickly become my nightmare as they dare me to change. Me. The forever bachelor. Can you imagine? But the only thing that might do that is the secret my office fling is keeping from me—a secret that will change everything and tie us together forever. A baby. I’ve never wanted to “become one” with anyone. At least not until her.
Have we met? No? Well it's time to end that tragedy.

Another must read in Wedding Bells Alpha series! The bad boy billionaire who uses weddings as a hookup place and the wedding guest who has a “fake ring” keep the wolves away at the wedding. The player is in for a major shock and surprises when next they meet. Loved the growth and changes over time for this character. *I was given a. Copy and am voluntarily giving my honest review.
Jake and Max! What a pair. Jake was a jerk who learned the hard way to mend his disgusting ways when he met Maxine, who had the patience of Job to deal with him. Jake always chased married or women in relationships because whether he realized it or not, he feels they’re safe and will not expect anything other than a one night stand. He feels he’s adding some excitement to their boring life stuck with just one person. Max is a bridesmaid at a wedding he attends and they immediately are drawn to one another. Wes sees she has a ring on so assumes she’s safe! He doesn’t know the bride gave her a phony ring to keep her safe from the attending men! They have a memorable night and she leaves in the middle of the night for home. He’s the CEO of a large company and has made snarky remarks to women in his employ - again, all “safe” mostly married women and 6 have filed harassment charges against him for remarks he has made. Little does he know that the HR person that comes to him about these charges is the same person he’s been dreaming about! She gives it to him with both barrels and says he must get counseling and change his ways or his grandfathers company that was left to him could go down in shame. I didn’t like Jake at all. He was unbelievable. This book is beautifully written. Wes did a great job of showing the reformation of Jake. Definitely a good read. I received this as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this review
Jake Aspen met Max at a wedding. He thought she was engaged or married. Those are the types of women he goes after. No strings attached. Max isn't engaged, but the bride made her wear to keep undesirable men stay away. She didn't know that Jake didn't care about that. They drank and danced and had a great time. Their night together was one of the best for Max. She never had a man who wanted her to be satisfied before himself. The sex was great for both. She tried to tell him she had to leave but he fell asleep. He wasn't happy when he was waken up by the wedding party banging on Max's door. She was supposed to go to brunch with them. He left her room very upset. A couple of days later, Max was handed six folders with sexual complaints against the new CEO. Being the head of HR, it was Maxine job to go to the bosses office. To her surprise, when she went into his office, she was surprised to find out it was Jake. He was sassy at her about the allegations brought to him. He felt he could say what he wanted. If they couldn't take a joke, they could quit. Max tried to explain that he couldn't talk to his female employees like that. He talked like a smart mouthed teenager, with no regard how much he hurt the woman he talked to. Max and Emery, the corporate therapist, decided he had to come for sessions or be sued. He went under one condition. If Max would take him out to dinner after his therapy session. She explained to him that she went to a therapist for about five years and why. She explained her situation with her father. He was an abusive husband and eventually passed away. Through his therapy sessions with Emery, he also had a story to tell about his parents and how his grandparents brought them up. His sister and Jake were lucky to have had loving grandparents. But because his parents were screwed up, that was why he didn't go out with a single unattached woman. As time goes on, their friendship changes, and they enjoy being together. Great story of finding out what makes a person act like they do. Until someone takes the time to dig into the past and help to have a future. Another great story by Weston Parker. Love this story.
Congratulations to Weston Parker for tackling so many HR nightmares in one story and making a doozie of a romance out of it!!! Jake Aspen is a player on all fronts but it's unavailable women that's catnip to him. It's also what's going to take him down and make him a better man and partner. Maxine never thought wearing a dime store fake ring at a wedding would create havoc in her life only to be the best thing to happen to her.
As the new CEO of Aspen Pharmaceuticals, Jake is on top of the world... or so he thinks. After his hookup at a friends wedding he never expected to see Max again...especially as in HR coming to him about complaints on his behavior. Forcing the CEO to go to therapy over said behavior is bad enough but that it's her wedding hookup takes the wind out of Max's sails. What starts as defiance actually has benefits for Jake and slowly changes the man he is and the way he sees things. It also brings out the chemistry between Jake and Max. When one of Jake's backhanded jokes come back to bite him in the rear, he loses the one thing he didn't realize he wanted... Max. Can he show Max the impact she has had in his life and win her back?? Will Max open herself to hope?? Grab your copy of this MUST READ and follow Jake and Max in their journey of becoming one!!! The characters are exactly what the other needs, his/her POV, secondary strong characters, no cliffhanger and a hard won HEA. I love how Weston gradually changed Jake's character into the rolemodel he became. Looking forward to the next story...maybe Tristan. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and added it to my favorites collection.
Maxine is happy living her single life and doesn’t want a marriage like her friends. When she attends a friend’s wedding, she wears a fake wedding ring to keep the creepy guys from hitting on her. Jake is a billionaire bad boy who enjoys getting engaged and married women into his bed, he loves the thrill of the chase and doesn’t want anything close to a commitment. The two have a steamy night together and Maxine leaves Jake in her hotel room without a trace.
Jake, who was recently handed the reins to his grandfather’s pharmaceutical company, begins his new role as CEO but gets into trouble right away by making inappropriate comments to his female staff who begin filing complaints. Maxine, a member of the HR team, steps in to conduct the investigation into his behavior, but shockingly realizes the man she is supposed to investigate, is none other than the hot guy she hooked up with at the wedding. While helping Jake see how his behavior impacts his employees, Max begins falling for him. Can Jake change his ways and become a man that Maxine can see a future with?
This is a wonderful addition to the Wedding Bells Alpha Novel series and gives Jake an opportunity to redeem himself from his role in Lennon and Nash’s storyline. Weston did a great job with showing how Jake grows into a better person and I loved the depth of the character development. Don’t miss out on a wonderful storyline about the bad boy billionaire who has to EARN his redemption.
Jake Aspen, a bad boy CEO of a multi-billion dollar company, goes after only married women because he loves the chase and knows that their tired marriages leave them wanting fun - with him. Today he is attending yet another wedding and is looking forward to someone warming his bed.
Single Maxine Fowler has suffered through the fallout of divorce and wants nothing to do with marriage and HEA. She is a bridesmaid at her friend Elle’s wedding, the same one Jake is attending. She is given a wedding ring to wear to keep the crazy men away, but once she sets eyes on Jake, she becomes the aggressor then disappears before the light of day, leaving Jake to the walk of shame witnessed by the entire bridal party. What neither of them knows at the time is that they are both deeply scarred and romantically unavailable.
As it turns out, Maxine works for Aspen Pharamceuticals in HR, and she is charged with talking to the new CEO, aka Jake, about inappropriate comments he has made to six females in the company. Oh, what a wicked web Weston Parker has woven in this latest installment of the Wedding Bells Alpha series. These two snarky characters are perfect for each other, even if they don’t know it, and I laughed out loud when Max demands that Jake go into therapy to uncover his deep-seeded issues, but might it actually help?
Don’t miss the hilarity, antagonism, tragic loss, passion, hard work that therapy demands, steamy romance, and a life-altering surprise in this beautifully written romantic comedy. I am confident that you will fall in love with the the characters and the story that includes explosive, fiery banter and incredible make-up sex in a difficult journey to self-awareness and the illusive HEA.
I received this book as an ARC reviewer and voluntarily leave my honest opinion.
Jake only wants what he can't have. Married women in particular. When he's invited to a friend's wedding, he sees a bridesmaid with a wedding ring and he's immediately attracted to her. Maxine sees him and can't wait to make a night of it with him. She doesn't know his "affliction", but they both seem to fit together. Maxine leaves early from their wonderful night together, and Jake is stunned. He has real feelings for her, even after that one night.
Jake has another issue. He's a great boss, but he's an HR nightmare. He always tells jokes that are uncalled for, he hits on married women in the office, and he's looking at multiple lawsuits if he doesn't change his ways. Little does he know that the HR rep who is sent to his office to talk about his issues is Maxine. Ooh boy!
This story has so much love and romance and steaminess, you will love it. I remember the character of Jake in a previous book in this series. He was hateful. Now, he's lovable and misunderstood. I love how Weston Parker delves deeper into this character's inner workings. Maxine and Jake together are so adorable. And their HEA is one for the books!
I truly loved this story. It is well-written and brings out so many different emotions. You will hate Jake at first, but will come to love him by the end. “Why do you only want the women you can’t have for more than one night?”
Max was sure of one thing in her life. ”She was going to be late. It didn’t matter what she did or how hard she tried to be on time, it never quite worked out that way”. So when she rushed into the bridal suite, no one was surprised she was the last one there. “Although she had no intention of walking down the aisle herself any time soon, she loved weddings and what they stood for”.
Jake is the CEO of a multibillion-dollar company. He is a playboy and everyone knew it. Jake thought he was doing “a public service by finding women who were ready to break the monotony of being in their marriages”. He was headed to a friend's wedding. The perfect place for a hookup. He thought that “one of the best things about a wedding is those little canapes they serve after the ceremony”. Boy was he wrong.
This is part of the A Wedding Bells Alpha Series and is Jake and Maxine's story. You'll remember Jake from some of the other books in the series. His ego was off the charts and he only slept with married women. It was all about the chase and then he was on to the next one. A billionaire CEO who tends to insult women at times gets in trouble with his HR department after six women file claims against him. And to make matters worse he finds out that he even slept with his HR manager. He meets Maxine at a wedding and thinks she's married because of her large 'dime store' diamond. She only wants a one night to celebrate her divorce. What happens when he turns out to be her new boss. The back and forth banter is hilarious at times. And it's funny how he tries to convince her that he's not a womanizer. He was not very likable in the beginning but he redeemed himself. It was fun to follow his character development for the good. She was an amazing influence on him and didn't even realize it. I read a free arc via the author and voluntarily chose to review it.
4 Stars I received a free copy of the steamy Las Vegas to New York set novel Two become One: A Wedding Bells Alpha Novel: Book seven: Jake and Maxine by Weston Parker and this review was given freely.
I found the opening crude, ironic, dark, and at times cringe-worthy, but trust the process; you will find a rocky and steamy reformation story with a heartfelt ending. I guess there are people like Jake, but I don’t want to know about them or believe that it is true. I did enjoy the happy ending.
The new CEO of multibillion-dollar Aspen Pharmaceuticals, Jake Aspen, takes self-entitlement to an unfavorable level when his derogatory comments and penchant for luring married women into one-night stands and a revenge plot backfire on him bringing legal actions against him and Human Resources employee Maxine “Max” Fowler mandating counseling.
Jake has no respect for woman or the marriage, he only hits on attached women. He is at wedding when he sees Max, she has a ring on finger, that was supposed to ward off guys. They spend the night together, Max is the one that leaves him in her hotel room.
Jake is the new CEO of the company started by his grandfather. He has six complaints that have lodged in HR, the rep has come to his office to talk to him about it. The HR rep is non other than Max from the weekend.
Both of these individuals are not looking for happily ever after but the more time they spend together, the chemistry is overwhelming. Jake does a lot of growth thru the story, due to therapy he is required to take. Max’s best friend should have not been his therapist as she interferes where she should not.
This was such a good book! I couldn’t put it down! Told in first person POV by the main male and female characters, take a journey with them and experience some laughs, dark times, encouragement, understanding, rectification and some steamy chemistry.
I wasn’t fond of Jake in the other books, but this book gave him the redemption he deserved. I loved that Maxine was able to put him in his place when he deserved it. Her tactics for getting him to do what he needed to do were very smart. I loved that they got to know each other and that Jake was able to rectify his wrongs and redeem himself.
The side characters really helped to make this story even better. I can’t wait to see what else Westin comes out with.
In the beginning, I couldn’t make up my mind whether I loved or hated Jake and Max. He’s arrogant and charming, she’s fierce and feisty. It’s a volatile combination. Particularly when you add all their own personal baggage into the mix. It took me a little bit to pick a side, but when I did it was pure love. I loved that this story tackles some pretty big issues and does so without flinching or making light of them. I love that “love” wasn’t the answer to their problems, that it took hard work and trained mental health professionals. But, perhaps most importantly, I love the fact that we now have one more book added to this fantastic series. However, I’m greedy, I want this series to never end. I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author.
I loved this book. It was a story that’s probably been told at least a hundred times but I loved this version. I can’t tell you how many books I’ve read about the bad boy who’s anti relationship who meets the girl and falls in love. What I can tell you is that I always felt like each one was unbelievable. After reading this book, I believe it could happen. It was full of humor, I laughed out loud several times. I love everything about Jake and Max. The friendship they built made it more believable than other versions of bad boy against relationships meets girl and changes his entire persona by falling in love and ending in a hea. If you want a realistic retelling of a common story I suggest you read this.
Jake is a typical billionaire alphahole. Thinks his stuff doesn’t stink and gets joy out of chasing and romancing women that are married or engaged. After having 6 women report him to HR for sexual harassment and being brought down a peg by the head of HR the sexy take no bullshit heroine Maxine. Jake definitely gets to redeem himself in this story his other appearances weren’t in his favor. Maxine is an independent woman who isn’t fooled by Jake’s womanizing ways. Their chemistry is off the charts and Jake finally settles with a woman who’s available and ready to take him on, Weston did an incredible job with this story and like the rest in the series kept me hooked.
I’m a bit conflicted with this book. One the one hand, I found Jake pretty disgusting. He has no respect for marriage and treats chasing after married women as a game. On the other hand, this book is well written with plenty of moments to make you laugh, some that are heartbreaking, and plenty of steam! I did feel like Maxine was the perfect counterpart to Jake. She was a fearless firecracker that knew how to put him in his place! I can appreciate the growth that Jake went through. Had it not been for that, I’m not sure I would have enjoyed this book as much. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Loved the story of Jake and Max. Jake loved having one night stands with married women. When he sees Max thinking she's married because of the ring her friend put on her at a wedding she was in he happily spends the evening with her and ends up in her hotel room. When he wakes up alone he can't believe Max would walk away. Max handles sexual harassment claims at her work and when she has to let the arrogant CEO know what he is being accused of she charges into his office only to discover Jake is the CEO! A story showing even the arrogant can be taught new tricks and healing ways through kindness, therapy and love.
Pain and fear become love everlasting in this beautiful story about learning to trust and let love in. Jake suffers trauma as a child and builds “walls” around his heart as a means of protection, but doesn’t understand how his resulting attitude harms others. Maxine, who has suffered her own trauma, becomes responsible for guiding Jake to deal directly with his attitude before it causes irreparable harm. A tender, loving book about honesty and trust, passionately written by an author who always provides a unique perspective into all things “love”.
This book has main characters who have a similar outlook on relationships. Jake and Maxine(Max) meet to have fun without strings. Well, strings of an original nature ensnared them both. I throughly enjoyed how getting psychological help is dealt with in a very realistic, respectful way. The behaviors that Jake and Max enjoy make this a very engaging story. I like the subtle changes in their behaviors and their honest interactions. This is a must read book.
I received this book as an ARC from Bookfunnel for my honest review.
This is a well written book with strong characters in Jake and Maxine. The author does a great job building the story and pulled me in right from the start. He brings two people together who never wanted a relationship. They have a night together which turns into a boss/employee relationship and a slow burn romance. Their chemistry is off the charts but will it be enough? I loved reading their story and would recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Jake, CEO and confirmed playboy, meets Max, the habitually late person, at her friend’s wedding where she was given a dime store ring to help keep the playboys away. As the story progresses a reversal of roles doesn’t feel great, real life seems to mix with fate, and choosing to communicate could come too late. Two Become One set my emotions aflutter with the back and forth between Max and Jake.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
Bad Boy Billionaire CEO Jake meets his match with Bada$$ HR Rep Max. I loved, loved Max’s strong moral character and ability to be an adult. Jake on the other hand…cringe for the first third of the book. I wasn’t sure how Weston was going to be able to redeem him. But alas…
I received this book as an ARC for my voluntary review. Although I was not new to Weston Parker’s writing, I was new to the Wedding Bell Alpha series. I probably would have picked up some of the more subtle references earlier had I read the previous books. This was a very well written book and the story flowed nicely.
At the beginning of this story, Jake is the kind of guy it’s hard to like. He goes after taken women and has no qualms over his bad behavior. Funny things start to happen when his hookup, Maxine, turns out to be part of his HR team and not actually married. These two have serious chemistry and I love how she calls him out on his bad behavior and helps him see the error of his ways. This story also supports going to therapy to unload your baggage… a small step towards helping remove the stigma. A sexy romance when you’d least expect it.
Another terrific read by this author who has become a fav. This story revolves around Maxine and Jake. Maxine wanted to have a one night with someone she didn’t plan to see again yo celebrate her divorce. Turns out Jake is her boss and she is his new HR manager. She tries to make Jake see that he needs to change his womanizing ways but Jake's just as determined to show her she had him all wrong. I didn’t like Jake at first so it was hard 6o root for this couple but their hilarious banter won me over.
A real page turner. Who is the real Jake? As far as Max is concerned, it could take years of therapy for Jake to realize his mistakes, but she makes a deal with him trying to coax out the real Jake. And once Jake understands Max, he can see the error of his ways. Conflict resolution is Max’s specialty, and Jake is definitely going to put her through the paces. A really great story where you can see the characters developing and changing and growing with each page. You will think Jake is a lost cause, but never underestimate the power of a good woman. A really, really good book.
This is book 9 in the Wedding Bells Alpha series, a Small Town Romance. This is a standalone in the series, but I highly recommend to read this series in order. I like this series! Jake and Maxine's story is sweet, funny, and steamy. Maxine is smart, patient, strong, and determined. Jake is an enigmatic bad boy billionaire, impertinent, and immature. I liked how he redeemed himself by the end of the story. The supporting characters are interesting. The storyline is original. This is a good addition to the story. I enjoyed it.
Well, Jake did not have me liking him in the beginning, or even much by the middle. He's a bit hard to take, he's OTT with his cockiness, his attitude and all just rubbed me the wrong way. The redeeming part of the story is Max. She's a strong woman, stands up for what she feels but is so pulled to Jake lines get crossed. It definitely takes a while to warm up to Jake but the two of them together show his growth throughout the book.
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
What a great start to the story. Jake being left in the hotel room and having to do a walk of shame the next morning! An easy to read story with some deep soul searching being done by Jake with the help of both Max and Emery added to the lighter discussions he had with his friend. Whilst reading I was always hoping the two main characters would end up with a HEA but they had hurdles to cross before they got there.
Jake is a disgusting man who chases married women only. Max is a bridesmaid at her friend's wedding and was given a fake engagement ring to keep the men at bay, until she sees Jake, se willturn the table around on him. When he is called to HR about women who made complaints against him, he is surprised to see that the woman he is dreaming about is right in front of him. Fast paced, entertaining story.
