Isabelle doesn’t know why her love of drawing enrages her mother. So she keeps her sketches and dream of becoming an artist secret from everyone but her best friend Gino. Until she learns of the Thirtieth Annual Young Artists’ Competition. With a little help and a lot of luck, Issy is on her way to winning the first prize trip to art camp. But misfortune has a way of finding Issy’s family, especially when her troubled young father is around. As Isabelle sees her chance of entering the art contest evaporate like disappearing ink she discovers she just might have something in common with her mother after all, and that Gino may be more than just a picture perfect best friend.
