Vow To Burn
His secret ruined our marriage. And now I'll make him pay...
Elmer is the former head of the Battle Hawks. A leader. A legend.
My beloved husband.
Or he was… before I discovered his betrayal.
Smoke. Fire. I leave only ash in the aftermath.
But my fury is nothing compared to my brother’s—the head of a much more powerful gang.
My marriage to Elmer was an alliance between our crews. Now that the alliance is broken, nothing can save my husband from death.
Except me.
I’m ready to feast on his suffering.
Problem is…..the fiery heat between us burns at every encounter.
Elmer claims to have found a new mentor and a new path.
But I can’t let him steal my heart for a second time.
My husband broke his vows first.
And now, I make a new one—I vow to burn him to the ground.

Hate read it hoping for a surprise but alas…
Now I’m generally one of Nia’s biggest fans. I love 90% of her other series, including the original Marriage Repair one. I even read her Fragile Vows series, though in terms of actual enjoyment I only truly liked Liz’s story because she let her cheater go and found someone who deserved her and made her happy and her ex got his commupance, even if it took all 3 books to really truly let him go, and I’m usually not a patient person. Harriet’s started off infuriating me because I couldn’t relate to her swaying towards her husband so easily and often before really making him work for it, but I *understood* Nia’s effort to redeem him and the time it took to get there.
Elmer has no such redemption value or actions in my opinion. SPOILERS AHEAD ON WHY:
I think if this was fleshed out more, even though I wouldn’t have liked or agreed with it, I would have *understood* it, like Harriet’s. But no, there was not enough time or detail given to Elmer and honestly as much as I hurt for Zora, I lost respect for her as the book went on. At the house confrontation with Anissa, Zora almost got me back enough to root for her and then she just threw it all away. To me the only one in this book with sense was her best friend, who I appreciated telling Zora like it was without pulling any punches. Ironically the only details that were thoroughly fleshed out and given backstory were what Raisha recapped about Zora and Elmer’s behavior at the start of their relationship and throughout their marriage to get Zora to see that Elmer never loved or respected her and yet Zora desperately chased him with treatment he didn’t deserve (and honestly through the whole rant I was 100% on Raisha’s side. But every time, just when I thought Zora accepted what she said and would apply it, it was forgotten just because Elmer did something bare minimum. Like when I say the bar was in hell…literally. And all because Zora experienced literally constant cheating and lack of any care, respect for the entirety of their relationship, even before the 20 year marriage. Literally up until this book their entire relationship consisted of great sex and Zora willingly offering up her dignity for Elmer (cooking, cleaning, supporting, changing herself and making herself small for his comfort, satisfaction and success) all while swooning over his hypocritical possessiveness and consciously knowing that he did not love her, barely tolerated her, and would never reciprocate anything she gives him.
The book tries to sell us that it was love at first sight for her but to me it seems like it was lust at first sight and desperation for all her hopes for a marriage and family pinned on him. Then he only starts making a change because his life is literally in danger by her protective brother (which also was a hard sell because he claimed his motivation was revenge for hurting Zora except he knew about the mistress and kid before she did and planned to hold that secret as long as Zora didn’t find out) and then the entire timeline of the book is about a month, within which only 2 weeks are of Elmer actually putting effort (and I use that term loosely considering the effort was actually texting her back, speaking to her [no that’s not an exaggeration, it’s a literal personality trait of his to not speak to her so she over-talks to get a reaction from him], letting her drive his bike, taking her out on one shopping trip and dinner date and cooking for her a couple times…that’s it). Then when Zora finally accepts that she deserves better (for the second time after backtracking the first time), she backtracks AGAIN the very next day because she finds out she’s pregnant (yet another plot hole and essentially deus ex machina because for the whole book part of her hurt about the love child is that she allegedly can’t have children, though the reason she knows this inability to be fact is never explained or explored). So she essentially forgives over 20 years of pain, heartbreak and disrespect for 2 weeks of lackluster dating.
I would’ve respected this installment more if it had ended with her finding happiness elsewhere, or if Elmer actually spent real time and effort winning her back instead of getting away with the bare minimum because he could rely on her emotions and attraction to him (which he consciously took advantage of to get ahead), or even if the plot had leaned more into the fact that their marriage was mostly a business arrangement and she didn’t have feelings at first either but was dedicated to making the marriage work, realized she deserved better after being disrespected and humiliated, left and found identity and purpose in herself, and he came crawling back and actually earned her. Instead I felt like Raisha wanting to scream at her for being pathetic and lacking self-respect by revolving around someone who was blatant in his disregard for her for over two decades and leaping for joy at literal crumbs of attention. Just disappointing.

2.5 stars rounded up
2.5 stars rounded up because I felt nice
You know what I've realized is I'm a details gal. I wanna know the who, why, when & where. In book with a cheating couple that are reconciling I also wanna know the how long, how often, if protection was used & if feelings were involved. In this book we only got one clear answer to all the questions above and that's did he love the OW...and that was no.
Elmer did not love his wife, heck he didn't even like his wife. The wife that loved him unconditionally for 20 fricken years. He cheated with more then one woman and he had a baby with one of them 3 years ago. Did he have a sexual relationship the entire three years with this OW? Well your guess is as good as mine because that was never touched upon....but I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say yes. He only tried to win back his wife because Arthur her brother was gonna kill him. Side note loved Arthur. I don't believe he loves his wife but I do believe he'll stay faithful because he's too scared of Arthur to step out anymore.
Zora I liked her. I felt she was very relatable and her pain was tangible. The scene towards the end where the OW abandoned the baby and Zora and Elmer took him home only for the OW to show up was so fricken good. The way it was written felt so realistic and you could feel the raw pain coming from Zora.
So why 3 stars? The plot holes.
First Zora didn't know the OW, then OW introduces the baby to Zora as her auntie ( idk🤦♀️) then Zora says she knew the OW from 3 years ago when she worked at the bar....which one was it?
The affair was barely discussed...how can you have a cheating reconciliation book where the affair details are not mentioned?
The toddler was supposedly 3 but some scenes were written like he was a infant. That annoyed me.
Zora not being able to get pregnant. Did she have tests done? We're there miscarriages? Why does she think she can't get pregnant or have kids? Idk your guess is as good as mine because that's also never discussed.
The ending. We have this real, authentic, painful scene from Zora where she tells Elmer that she can't do this. She can't live her entire life having to deal with the OW. It's too much to ask of her and she's tired of being sad. Then she finds out she's pregnant and everythings forgiven🤦♀️ well I guess Arthur was also gonna kill Elmer too so that swayed her.
Then the Ow takes the baby and leaves the state and Elmer now just has video chats and break visitation..that seemed like it was just thrown in for less mess.
This had potential to be great but fell flat for me. Would I recommend? Depends who asks. I will say I'm super curious to see why Cleo wants Crow dead. I wonder what pushed her over the edge but lets be honest Crow is a mega dick so he could of just been being his normal self. My guess he brought a OW home as a 3rd and told Cleo to deal with it because of her gaining weight.

Probably 2.5 but tough one. I dislike cheating tropes so much and the fact that there is a child involved makes this book even more difficult to read.
I can accept the story simply because it's a mc-gang type of thing with an arranged marriage to begin with and there was unrequited love. So it's a whole different universe.
The fact that our main hero realizes the worth of his wife is nicely written but would he really understand he was wrong if her brother didn't threaten him with his life???
I liked both characters and although he wasn't the brightest one, he tried to redeem himself.
It was even funny at times and thank God the female lead gets pregnant and the rebuild their family.
I recommend this book and it's one of the most likeable in this awful cheating trope.

The Doc books are so different from what is the norm in this genre and that’s what makes them spectacular.
They’re always a bit of a tough pill to swallow.
They make me so mad sometimes that my face feels hot.
The grovelling is (😗chef’s kiss) top tier.
The heroine’s are always sympathetic, even when I don’t agree.
The heroes are aggravating a**holes who are trying to change.
And I’m always satisfied with the ending, which confuses me, because would I ever forgive in these situations? HELL NO.
It takes a great author and amazing writing for me to be happy at the end of a book where I wholeheartedly disagree with the HEA.
Still, these books do something to me every time.

Hero cheated and has a secret child
Wife finds out and makes his grovel.
Everyone needs a friend like raisha. And a brother like Arthur.
Can't wait to red more on Cleo , Arthur, Jeremiah and raisha.

I don’t quite know where to start. I actually enjoyed this and wanted so much for it to be a 4 star read but it just fell short. Main reason plot holes so many plot holes. And I feel so many questions are still lingering.
I maybe repeating Tessa review a bit because we buddy read and reviewed but where cheating is involved you need answers. He say once, she says Gf, he says co parenting only from now on. What is it. We also know there were others too.
Zara was such a strong bold h for once she kicked ass didn’t give in easy and knew her worth.
Do I think his turnaround was due to Docs advice maybe but I have no doubt that it was also driven by fear of Arthur who I really liked he be badass
I do believe he realised his love for her in the end and I do believe he won’t step out on her again

It took me a while but I finally read this book!
Zora found out the hard way that her husband did not love her when his side chick outed the fact that not only was he a cheater, but he had a child with her even when Zora did not know she was able to have children! Elmer is now ruing the day he married Zora just to fortify a truce between his biker gang and her brother's gang. Now she is through with him and only a trip to Doc sets him on the right course to finding out that he has always loved Zora he just never thought so because he did not know what love really was and his son with the brash and manipulative home wrecker was the product of what appears to have been a one night fling. When Zora opened her heart to Elmer's son who had been left in a dangerous position by his vengeful mother, she soon learned that she too was to become a mother! The trials and tribulations she and Elmer went through to get to where they are now was an excellent read indeed! I love that Doc is no nonsense and insists that the men either work to get their wives back the right way or leave his establishment! His wise counsel clues the men in to what and who is most important in their lives! If they cannot or will not put their wives first, they usually end up losing their wives and in Elmer's case it could have also cost him his life! I like this story very much and now that I am committed to whittling down my TBR list, there are plenty more of these excellent stories I am anxious to read! Great job Nia and Doc, a really great job to be sure!

This was a somewhat satisfying cheating romance read. There was angst, feminine rage, heartache....but it didn't quite go as far as I would have hoped. In general, I think it’s hard to write a unfaithful romance book. We all want the guy to suffer and see where he's wrong and change but when is it enough, when is it not enough? It makes reconciliation difficult, but obviously romance readers want a happy ending as is evidenced by our reading romance which by definition has to have a HEA.
I didn't feel that there was enough suffering from the MMC, personally. His wife had been begging him to engage with her for years and all it took was a stranger (a man, of course 🙄) to say put more effort in and he's doing a complete 180. I think the FMC should have absolutely had a sexual affair while they were semi-separated...but that didn't happen.
The MMC did change and was likeable when he locked in on his marriage and wife but he got out of some tough talks that should have been had.
Something that was missing from this, as it is a cheating romance, was the conversation between the MCs about the details of the affair and what's supposed to happen with the child he fathered. Also, the MMC never told her on page that he slept with the mistress the first time and then never again. The MMC never answered the FMC about whether he had feelings for the mistress. That is absolutely a talk that would be had in that scenario.
There was basically no spice too. One quick scene was all there was, and nothing after the reconciliation.
The writing here was good though.

Wow
I had no idea what I was getting myself into with this book.
Saw a random TikTok and curiosity got the best of me.
To say I loved this book would be an understatement.
It’s been a while since I read a book that didn’t feel generic with the monologue, dialogue and lack of character development.
This book delivered things I wasn’t even expecting from it.
Haven’t read previous books and because of how heavy it gets sometimes I’ll probably won’t be reading any sequels soon but I’m definitely reading them.
I have a love/hate relationship with possessive bikers. But Elmer didn’t disappoint, he was just the right type of bad, the right type of messed up and even did the right amount of groveling (though he will probably grovel forever and I’m sure Z and me are ok with that) so I’m definitely a fan.
Great read.
Definitely recommend.
Not that spicy :)
If you’re looking for smut this book IS NOT IT.

Don't forget what you have
Zora and Elmer were on a patch of destruction since they married. She was his possession but never his priority.
Zora never really mattered until she had had enough and wanted to end ties. Elmer never thought she was strong enough to break away but when she ends their financial ability Elmer truly seen her and he seen her value.
The ultimate betrayal is having a child with your mistress and Elmer learned that he'll as no fear than woman scorned.
Arthur was cold to the bone and I liked his character.
I enjoyed Doc as usual.
Thank you for writing this story.

Divorce him. I wonder why h love him anyway.
And for h. She describes herself so well:
I just slept with my husband.
After finding out he's been cheating on me for three years.
Realization booms. I know what that 'some-thing' pressing against my heart is.
Shame.
It fills me quickly, making me feel naked in a way that has nothing to do with my bare skin.
I just made... not love. Because what we did wasn't making love, was it? I have no idea if he loves me. If he even cares about me.
And yet I...
Raisha was right.
I really am pathetic.
I DNF right away after h accept H and ow’s son.
And for h. She describes herself so well:
I just slept with my husband.
After finding out he's been cheating on me for three years.

Angst Filled Emotional IR Romance
If you like high angst, emotionally charged romance , then this is the 📕 for you😄This was not a love match marriage , rather it was a business arrangement between an MC leader ( Elmer ) and a kingpin’s sister ( Zora) to prevent the unaliving of Elmer & advance peace between the two rivals🥺😳Zora , however fell deeply in love with Elmer , but it was not reciprocated, which lead to all kinds of problems! Doc , as usual stepped in and help them find love & happiness together😍A very entertaining read, loved it🥰

I had a little trouble at first because it is very hard for a woman to forgive her man once he has cheated on her. I have first hand experience and I didn't work my situation as well as this heroine did. Although, I was glad that it worked out for them: I could only imagine how hard it was for them being that it was an arranged marriage between two crime factions. I really loved how over protective her brother was. And that skank that he cheated with, she was a piece of work. When she left her baby on the door step of his burnt out bar, I wanted to kill her.

Zora and Elmer: At Last
I can’t help but to give ALL of the Doc Academy books a 5 star rating! I was so angry with Elmer for the way he treated Zora and then to find out about Anissa and Bubba! I agreed with Arthur! But Zora loved him….for better or worse, even after finding out about this double life. But Doc’s words of wisdom changed him as he put those words into actions and started prioritizing his wife and elevating her to to where she should have been throughout their long marriage: QUEEN. (This story reminds me of Etta James song At Last!)

Highly anticipated
I've impatiently waited for this book as soon as I read the sneak peek from Nia's newsletter. And i was not disappointed. This book is juicy from beginning to end. A marriage based on the heroine's love but seen as a business transaction on the hero's side. Infidelity that comes to light due to the baby's mama's jealousy. A brother in law who I want a story about. And a golden ending. Because dude was about to lose her.

Doc never fails
what an unexpected plot twist with this business to love story. I couldn't put the book down. Elmer and Zora were both characters that I routed for from the start. Elmer worked hard to make good choices and showed up for Zora no matter what trial and tribulation she put hom through. He truly grew to be a protector and defender and prove that he finally understood the Assignment. His initial idiocy had no chance against Doc and the Mwnual.

Good story
I like reading this book. It only took me 1 1\2 days, I could imagine the people and story were real. Does was a strong black woman who didn't lose herself when she had to weather the storm. Anissa was a hot mess who wanted Zoe's life.
I want to recommend this author and her stories especially the ones with Doc.

burn it down 🔥
I love Doc, and while he wasn’t featured much in this book, he owes t disappoint with his wisdom and insights. Zora’s waiting to exhale moment was a thing of beauty and while she still loved her husband, I’m glad she held out until she seen action that matched his words.

Love conquers
I love these Doc inspired storylines. It's a great way to experience the what would I do if my spouse came home with an outside child. You think you can't get passed it, but this book shows you the possibilities.

I love these books!
This author really makes you think about love, marriage and all relationships.
Per Doc, I now look at marriage and the responsibility of the man and the woman so differently. Great read!

Everything is included
This series is really really great. It is fully thought-privoking and makes one have hope. A different kind of romance, but I enjoyed the series! I look forward to more of your work Ms Nia.
