Read this book to learn how to make the most of your mind.
This book teaches how to increase resilience and overcome depression and anxiety.
Wisdom is resilience is living by highest values. Resilience is the amygdala and the prefrontal cortex. The amygdala is system one fast reaction. The prefrontal cortex is system two balanced deliberation. You awaken the executive center by filling your day with highest priority actions. You stimulate reactivity by getting distracted from your highest values. Resilience therefore only means priority of highest values.
People who see how the situation matches their highest value are resilient, and people who seek external motivation are vulnerable. Hopefulness and helpfulness trigger the prefrontal cortex. Helplessness and hopelessness trigger the amygdala. The front of the body the parasympathetic indicates support and the back of the body the sympathetic signifies Challenge. Wellness needs challenge and support in balance. Filling the day with loved inspired and challenging ideas for high priority actions keeps you balanced. We identify ourselves by our highest value.
Fear minimises ourselves in relation to other people. Addiction delivers benefits demonstrating true values that can be replaced by viable alternatives linked to the highest values and delinking the original addictive behaviour. A subdiction (one to 5) is the thing you seek to avoid by an addiction. Neutralise that. The nervous system remodels itself around new highest values. New linking shows up as a great spontaneous desire to do new things. Whatever you condemn you breed, attract, and become. Values are voids to fill, questions to answer, mysteries to solve, problems to solve, unknown to know, and chaos to bring order to. Values are what we spontaneously spend time money energy and attention on.
Relationships identify one other’s values and asks how their highest values helps me fulfil my values and how my values help them accomplish theirs.
A crisis is a blessing, hard knocks other gift of awakening, the setback is the step forward, the scar is the star.
Do service that meets others needs enough for them to want to pay you. Serve people while valuing yourself and packaging service in a way that people will pay for. Serving a true need packaged well gets paid.
Depression and anxiety compares current balanced reality to an unrealistic fantasy expectation that is unbalanced. The addiction to fantasy triggers depression and anxiety.
Depression and anxiety is conscious of the negatives and unconscious of the positives. Perceiving benefits and drawbacks at the same time is wisdom.
Go to the moment of bother in detail, then notice where the opposite details are also present.
This book makes remarkable promises. It seems to be a transcript of audio records. It seems to be a little difficult to apply in practice but the notes indeed are promising.
I stopped reading approx. half-way through, pretty much after the "People consciously or unconsciously do extraordinary things to fulfill their highest values. I’ve seen a clinical case where a woman actually initiated a terminal illness in order to get her family to come to see her." It is close to that place in the book where he states that in his opinion depression is not a disease and gives an alternative baffling explanation to it. I don't like writing bad reviews, but this book got on my nerves. It is very superficial in its approach to the topic it presents, contains one or two core ideas and the rest is just... hard to tell what it really is. But I know what it is not - it is not science. I know science is a very fluid domain and prone to new discoveries and change, but the unarticulated perspective Demartini brings has nothing to do with science (not even with pseudo-science). I could find more quotes in the first few chapters like the one cited above, that simply lack the slightest scientific back-up.
The information on neuroscience and the way the brain works are very scanty and glossed over. The author only refers to those to twist them and bring everything back to the chorus: we are only authentic, healthy, wealthy and well when we follow our highest value. All good. But then he says the rest, delegate. Wait.... The rest delegate? It is very unrealistic and unhelpful to say that to normal people who can't delegate the chores or the job that pays the mortgage to find a way to delegate what is not high on their value list. That is his solution? Well, then his golden formula will come crashing down for most of us, because it is just not realistic.
All in all, this book was a waste of my time and I doubt I will read any of his other books in the future.
The first half is very repetitive of John’s previous work and examples, but the second half had new debates surrounding the connection of natural biology to the law of attraction/manifestation. Really enjoyed the last half!
Valuable read - definitely a self improvement upgrade!
I immediately had positive results, when I applied the Demartini method to my 27yr marriage challenges and downsides! I found and felt immediate relief! Whoa!! Amazing!!! I can't wait to use it on other challenges in my life!
