There is an unspoken beauty normalcy provides and Egypt Rose craves it and everything it comes with. Though “normalcy” is subjective, Egypt has been in the spotlight long enough to know that her life is anything but ordinary compared to other women her age. Every decision is made for her from the moment she opens her eyes until the moment she closes them. She wants more. One night. A wrong number. One contract lands her in the path of Axel Morrison. In his attempt to outrun the mistakes of his past, Axel begins collaborating with his father at his construction company. The moment he encounters the sheltered singer with undeniable beauty and an overbearing mother; he vows to stay away from her. Innocence meets raw, unfiltered attraction as Egypt tries to navigate around her newfound freedom, all the while creating unwanted chaos in Axel’s world.
Deshon Dreamz writes stories that make you dig your imagination from the deepest place inside of you and create a reality within dreams.
A hopeless romantic, Deshon began writing novels in the ninth grade after stumbling across a Brenda Jackson book at the public library. Ever since that moment, she has been hooked on love. The possibility of it. The look of it when it is tainted. The hope of love. Strong. Consistent. Demanding Love. To this date, Deshon has novels ranging from the genres of Romance, Erotica, Supernatural/Paranormal and Urban. She is a writer of all things that her pen desires. She writes without limits and boundaries. Freely giving those that decide to adventure with her an opportunity to get something different every time they open a Deshon Dreamz book. Her wit and personality creates dynamics within her characters that make them loveable. The activist inside of her creates scenarios that will cause you to think. The mother inside of her creates strong women who require love and respect. The lover inside of her places romance on a mantel for her readers to become absorbed in. Mother. Poet. Writer. Activist. Dreamer.
The pros of this story are: 1. I think Egypt and Axel are cute 2. I love a good height difference 3. Depending on how it's written it can be annoying but I found Egypt's innocence adorable. She's a sheltered young woman trying to find herself.
The cons: 1. The pacing for this story is horrible. This book ends on a cliffhanger. There will be a part 2. However, part 1 is 172 pages and Egypt and Axel don't meet face to face til page 85. The main characters should not be meeting this late in a story that's not even 200 pages. They were corresponding with each other via text because he called her cursing her out because he thought she left him with a high drink bill at a bar. Eventually he figures out that he has the wrong person and number and apologizes. From there they start casually texting. However, she was using a fake name because she didn't want him to know who she really was.
2. Egypt's mother was ruining the book for me honestly. This psychotic(she's crazy forreal) woman who is so miserable and evil constantly belittles her daughter and controls every facet of her life. Egypt is 24 still being controlled and told what to do by her mother and takes it. India reads like a soap opera villian. Her antics are so over the top and ridiculous it's laughable. If the story gave us more of Egypt and Axel and less of her domineering crazy ass mom this would've been a 4 star read easily.
3. Egypt's lack of a backbone. I don't know what it's like to have an overbearing and controlling parent so I can admit that because I wasn't raised by a toxic person I don't understand why she won't fight back. However, even though I can't relate it's still annoying. Egypt is 24 letting her mom talk to her crazy, tell her what to do constantly and run her career. Her mom treats her like she's 14 instead of a grown ass woman. The fact that Egypt let's that happen the whole story is frustrating. I know a lot of people have a hard time freeing themselves from toxic family members but at least try harder to fight back. Their relationship is incredibly abusive and another reason why I didn't enjoy this book as much as I wanted to. I hope she cusses her mom out and cuts her from her life early in part 2. What she did to her daughter at the end was next level evil and insane.
4. There were countless grammatical issues throughout the whole book. Idk if she had an editor or not but if so, I would suggest getting a new one. They missed countless errors.
I will be reading the second part. I want to know how it ends but I hope the pacing is better, we get more of Egypt and Axel, Egypt develops a backbone quickly and her mom gets dealt with early. Between the bad pacing, Egypt's mom doing wayy too much and Egypt not having a backbone, the story was really brought down for me Rating is a 3/5.
Ma'am, you did not have to end it like that. Egypt's mom is one of the worst moms, and I can't stand her. I love Axel for Egypt, and I hope it all works out. Can't wait for part 2.
I do not like Egypt's mother. She is the worst, form of evil. And I feel sorry for this 24 year old never been kissed, virgin. I am praying the second part; her momma hears some real words.
DESHON!!! Chile, no you didn’t give us this heat! Axel is working his way up the Book Bae ladder (I need to see how he handles things in book 2 to confirm) but lawd, he’s off to a good start. Our sis Egypt…we gon say a prayer for her because her mother is THE DEVIL! I’m talking bout I wanted to lay hands…and it’s not to pray. Anywhoo. Let’s talk about how Deshon was able to deliver so much in a few pages. My heart went out to E every time someone looked over her. I wanted to fight her battles & knock her mama OWT! Then you had the adorable-ness of the Morrison family & their bond. Mix that the fuego sexy vibes between our MCs & you got one h3ll of a story. I cannot wait to see what’s next in this series.
This was just wow. Egypt is an R&B singer who has been basically sheltered her whole life. At 24 years old she’s never even been kissed. Axel is a construction worker for his family business. He is rough around the edges but he is loyal to his family and their business. A mistaken phone call leads these two to start talking except Egypt can’t be who she really is. Fake names, fake pictures, crazy momanger, and a 24 year old virgin are just somethings that happen in this book and I was totally here for it. Cant wait to read what happens next because this one was top tier.
I’m very interested to see where this story is headed. Egypt’s mother is so unfit it’s ridiculous. The manipulation tactics are through the roof and she’s kept Egypt so in the dark that her naive behind can barely function.
Axel seems to have a bit of a rough past, but handles Egypt with care. Im not completely sold on the chemistry, but I am sold on the story and characters
I need Egypt to speak up for herself. Her freedom is right in her hands and she allows her mother to break her spirit each time. People like her.lother need to be humbled real quick too. I love how organic things are between Egypt and Axel even though they aren't being completely true with one another I'm ready to see what happens next because I wasn't expecting that last chapter at all!!
I enjoyed this book even tho Egypt and her mama got on my nerves. Egypt because she wouldn’t stand up to her mother. I understand she wanted her mothers love (I’m not sure she even knows how to love) but there were to many stipulations that come with it. Whew chile India Rose worked ma last nerve. She was so evil to everyone she encountered. I hope Egypt will let Axel explain and hopefully he can help her get from underneath her mothers thumb.
Egypt is a rising star with a life controlled by her narcissistic mother! India Rose needs to spend some time with Iyanla so she can fix her life, and Egypt can live hers. I'm hoping to see India and Axel's characters developed more in part two so that I can get a better understanding of them. I'm enjoying this story this far though. Egypt's naivete makes it an interesting experience.
The entertainment world is my lane. I like the glimpse of it we had. Egypt is a nice girl who has been sheltered all her life. I think this was an interesting take on the "never have kissed" trope. Quite straight to the point. Maybe the plot could have been tightened up a little, but I liked spending time with these characters, so it was okay. Of course now I need to know the big reveal, because that ending?
Oh my! This cliffhanger was a definite "I know it didn't end like that." This was so good! Egypt was such a sweet spirit but that mother was something else. I haven't quite figured out the toxicity she embraces but she is such a controlling narcissistic demon. I just hope that her and Axe can work it out. I saw a blossoming relationship. On to the next story. My first read by this author and definitely not my last.
Egypt's mom is a mess and to have her sheltered like that is crazy. That is a definite going over board with being controlling and to think she put out her daughter sexual encounter to try and make her look edgy. I can't wait to see what happens next
This was such a good read! I DIDN'T EXPECT THIS! Good girl, bad boy book but with a twist. I wish I waited for book 2 now I'll be waiting on the edge of my seat
Awww Egypt!!! I need her to get outta her mother clutches next book because we can’t have that. That ending though😩😩 my heart broke. I hope you’ll be mending it book 2. Great read!!
Poor Egypt and Axel never had a chance with Egypt’s evil, controlling, manipulative and arrogant mother. I was ready to get in the book to knock the mom out. Hope Egypt get a back bone.
Egypt deserves so much better than what her mother is doing to her. I think she's jealous of her daughter or afraid that she'll leave her and have a life of her own.
Someone need to send the mother far away from Egypt, girl you need to stand up for yourself my blood is boiling, it reminded me of the movie beyond the light the mother was the same so controlling.
Mister Ax I was so sure it would have back fire on you
