some of my favourite quotes💌💌

She was mine and the fact that she was touched against her will, had every fibre of my being bridled with such an unforgiving anger that I was afraid of what I’d do to the person that deserved a good fucking lesson from me.

When I lifted the glass to my lips, I suddenly felt him against me. His lips in my hair, hot breath fanning my neck, nose inhaling my scent, hard erection pressing into my lower back. Jesus. I wanted him right then and there. “Do you see what you do to me, Rabbit?” he murmured. “You should be punished for being such an insolent little girl.” Rabbit. It’s been so long since I had heard that nickname that it caught me a little off guard. When we used to play Catch The Rabbit, where Christian was the hunter and I was the Rabbit, he’d call me his Rabbit while we played by the creepy moss statues near the mausoleums.

“There’s nothing wrong with you,” he whispered assuringly, and then he gently pressed his lips to my throat in a soft kiss. “And if we’re corrupted, I’d rather it be with you than anyone else, because you’re my twin flame, Violet. Our souls are kindred and if we’re meant to burn in hell together, I’ll do it holding your hand.”

This was completely effed up, Violet & Christian's whole family has more than one screw lose so it's no wonder how they ended up the way they did. And actually I think the author did a really good job showing that without glorifying it.

The atmosphere was perfectly spooky, I loved the descriptions of the weather and the old Victorian house and I love how much personality the characters had for such a short read.

I do have one complaint though and that's a dog dying, which is not that odd considering everything else going on, but I prefer not to read about that so I'm mentioning it for those who also feel the same way.

Once again I wish this was longer, because I'm really starting to fall in love with the author's storytelling and novellas aren't enough!!

Genre: Dark Romance
Type: Standalone
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:

After five years of being deprived of her twin, Violet Osborn finally got Christian back. While both have changed physically, deep down inside the fire still burn that threaten to incinerate everything around them.

When he was locked away, I had touched myself for nights on end in his bed, just thinking of what it would be like to have him touching me instead.

This book had potential with its dark and taboo content. Unfortunately, there were plenty of technical issues that took away the quality and my enjoyment of the story. I couldn’t connect to either character, and the inconsistencies in the storyline didn’t help it.

This is so fucked up but I loved it.

I’ll try my very best not to spoil anything because this is a book you should truly go in blind to.

Christian (the hero) is returning home after being held in an asylum for five years. He has been obsessed with his twin sister Violet and five years away from her did nothing to stop him harboring feelings towards her. Christian is a morally black character that only has a soft spot for his heroine😋

Violet (the heroine) suffers from her past. Without her twin brother by her side, she has to go through everything alone. She is bullied by her peers and even suffers with self harm. When her twin comes back into town, she is giving into her desires of wanting to be with him, but what will happen when her friends at school hear her brother is back in town and plan an attack on Violet.

P.S. the twins get their revenge (a.k.a. They end up killing 4 people on Halloween night)

List of TW’s:
Incest (brother/sister)
Gore
Violence
Murder (on page)
Killing of an animal x2 (on page)
Flashback scene of SA (not by H)
Traumatic childhood
Self-harm
Drug use
Non con/ dub con
I also need to point out that this book gives delicious dark academia/ gothic vibes. I ate that shit up!!

Safety:
- Heroine was raped in the past, the hero is the only person she’s had consensual sex with
- Hero’s past isn’t mentioned but he was in an asylum for 5 years (since he was 13) so I don’t know
- OM drama: heroine was assaulted on page after meeting hero
- OW drama: heroines bully wants the hero but he shows no interest in her whatsoever
- Both characters are 18

I wanted to like this book, I really did. It read like she had 1 hour to write a short story and this is what she came up with. Grammar and spelling errors on every page. I can get past that. What threw me for a loop was the fact that the story jumped around so much I never figured out what was going on. Plus she jumped around to the middle of scenes with no lead up to how they got there or why. Even body parts got mixed up. An injury was done to MC forehead, then next scene it’s like the author forgot where she put the injury because that same injury was on her chest, literally 3 pages apart. The premise of the story was spicy but I wish she would have taken the time to actually write the story not the outline of one

too many errors

I’m a huge fan of taboo and forbidden romance. The premise of the story was good. It was the spelling errors, missing words, periods in the wrong places and incorrect words that took me out of the story. Literally an error on every page and that’s way too many. I recommend a beta and ARC team that’ll catch mistakes like that.

Taboo twins…

I never want to discourage an author because I know they have taken the time to write a story. They have most likely put their heart and soul into what they feel is a great story.
This story has potential but it’s a little bit chaotic, rushed and it has caused typos plus some sentence structure to be off. If cleaned up and balanced it could really be a great taboo story.
We have a set of twins one boy and one girl who have lived a life of darkness. They turn to each other for that comfort and support they need. It has violence, obsession and a taboo aspect that people crave.

Twin Flame by A. Briar is a gothic romance novella.

I can't describe this book any better than the author did with one sentence. "A dark twisted tale of love, murder, lust and obsession."

I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see how everything was going to play out. I really enjoyed getting Christian and Violet's points of views throughout the book.

I would recommend this book if you're looking for a gothic romance, extreme taboo romance, or a dark romance.

In starting this book, it seemed to have a variety of dark elements that appealed, but the narrative was so poorly developed it left many unanswered questions. As a result, all that transpires is not supported by a substantive plot and it lessens the impact of each character’s actions. Lastly, it simply overreaches in the trope department, as I still cannot determine what constitutes dark academia in this book. If looking for a dark taboo romance with gothic themes, there are way stronger reads available.

“Twin Flame” was very disturbing and I very much enjoyed it. The setting of the story, an old Victorian house, only added to the overall dark and gothic atmosphere, which fit perfectly with the taboo themes of forbidden love and twincest. Of course, blood, self-harm and multiple murder could not be missing. However, there is already a long list of trigger warnings for “Twin Flame”, so I do not need to name them all here.

Only one small complaint from my side: there were some minor language mistakes, but that did not bother me much. Also, this novel could have easily been longer, because the story has so much potential. The author probably had something in mind with the length of “Twin Flame”, but I would have liked to see some moments described in more detail or just drawn out a bit more. The shortness made the story seem a bit unrealistic at times, which could have been fixed with a bit more background and side information. Still, this novel was an interesting experience and I am open to more books from the author.

Do editors not exist anymore?

The story, although a taboo and triggering topic for some, would have been great if not for the myriad grammatical errors, missing words, incomplete sentences and even a switched up body part. It read like a rushed paper typed out the night before it was due. There were memories described with no clarification as to some of the things referenced in them. I WANTED to like it...but I couldn't get past the errors in basic Writing 101.

Twin Flames

I got some Crimson Peak vibes from this one. It’s definitely dark and taboo and would be too much for many.

Which is probably why I enjoyed it. I loved that the MCs were unhinged and willing to do anything for the other.

So here we are again, at the end of another book that wont leave my mind or my sexual fantasies. A true fucking pleasure to read.

First, the characters Violet and Christian are so well developed with a layer of depth I often don’t see. Each part of their personality blends seamlessly with a specific reasons as to why they behave the way they do and the unthinkable bond they have with one another. It is a bond that is unexplainable even from the author herself and one incomprehensible to the reader.

Violet and Christian may be damaged and twisted. But if there are two people born to love each other without a single fuck, its these two. Their love is a dark yet stunning crescendo of everything wrong with themselves and society.

I truly forgot that the work I was reading was indie published without the help of agents, publishers, etc. It was of high quality, and the gradual conception of the plot was just amazing. The writing style also matched the tone beautifully. It didn’t feel as though I was just reading a writers thoughts, but truly a published and professionally crafted piece of art.

Twin Flame is a heavy read, no doubt. I am a taboo lover and somebody who embraces the darkness within life and fiction. But at certain times, I felt that crushing weight on my chest and my brain begged for a break to just internalise what I was reading. I couldn’t put it down. Forty minutes of my life that would be a pleasure to relive.

It would make the darkest parts of me swell with joy to hear more of Violet and Christians story, and their Hills Have Eyes unborn child.

dark and twisted

That was some seriously twisted stuff right there!!! I have nothing bad to say about this book!! I wasn’t sure I was going to like it as much as I did. It seriously pushes some boundaries so if your easily triggered this is not a read for you BUT if your not then read away!!!! I look forward to reading more from this author

I’m a huge fan of taboo/forbidden stories. This has promise to be a great short read but it was so hard to finish. There were so many errors, missing words, punctuation errors, etc. Sentence structure was choppy throughout. Please consider ARC and Beta readers before publishing.

I recommend definitely reading the Foreword and TWs because this one is dark and taboo! Two of my favorite things to read. I loved reading about Violet and Christian and I felt like this was such a tease to what could be more for them (hopefully! Fingers crossed)

I went into this book knowing only two things:

1. It was a gothic novel.
2. It’s about twincest.

Christian and Violet are twins that grew up dealing with the worst life had to offer. From a screwed up bloodline and everything else in between. There’s just something inherently carnal about their love for one another. Something haunting about the way they function, and it’s borderline obsessive. When they’re together they seem to revel in this darkness. Darkness they both actually seem to crave.

I couldn’t even put it in words how much I loved this book, definitely one of my faves from the character breakdown, the arcs and just the sheer gore of it all

I'm officially addicted to A. Briar!

This was dark, super taboo, super duper traumatic... and I loved every damn second of it! It's giving "Life of Anna" book 1. It's giving "Sick Fux" without the Alice vibes. It was so. Frikkin. Good! Now I must go read all the other books that might possibly be connected because I 100% need the full story!

Heat: 3/5

This very tab00 story about twins Christian and Violet was deliciously dark, sad, and beautiful. Terrible things have happened to Christian and Violet growing up, only to be violently separated at the age of 13. Finally, 5 years later, Christian returns to his twin flame to right all the wrongs and never leave her side.

This had a delightful gothic atmosphere - I really loved the setting, the storms, everything! The author did a wonderful job setting the perfect mood and scene for Christian and Violet to finally come into their own and be together forever. I love her work, and this just solidifies her as an auto-buy author for me!
