Lewis Padgett was the joint pseudonym of the science fiction authors and spouses Henry Kuttner and C.L. Moore, taken from their mothers' maiden names. They also used the pseudonyms Lawrence O'Donnell and C.H. Liddell, as well as collaborating under their own names.
A short story, the kind that Henry Kuttner excells in. But he used his alias to publish it, that means it probbly is no comedy. Almost up to the last page, the story is somewhat predictable and the reader has no problem anticipating correctly what is going on. Until things start to happen and go in a totally unexpected direction. Up to almost the last moment it is unclear if it is a comedy, a horror story or something else. The genius of Kuttner at work in one of his beloved short stories.
