The Men #7

Time with Mr. Silver

Rate this book
“Whoever said time heals… lied. And the man I’m stuck working for might be the biggest liar of them all.” After my actions wreck my family they send me to England, hoping the space will enable me to forgive myself and embrace life again. But the man I start working for is far from a savior. Dax Silver, head of the UK’s largest gin distillery, is as captivating as he is intense, his skin covered in ink, his eyes stained with secrets. I can tell by the condescending way he calls me ‘Sunbeam’ that he wants me to keep my distance. A warning. Because I’m not the only one who’s become accustomed to living in the shadows. And as much as he tries to hide it, I see him. His tattoos may cover his external scars. But it’s his internal ones I recognize—ugly and poisonous, like mine. It’s like looking at a reflection—and neither side can exist without the other. Maybe this is where I’m destined to be—a salvation. Or maybe it’s all an illusion, a trick of the light. Only time with Mr. Silver will reveal the truth. ★★★★★ What to expect – Family lies and secrets, suspense, hard truths, silver linings, clouds, memories, mirrors, revenge, forgiveness, self-acceptance, sunrises, balloons, and the promise of another’s heart for infinity, because love always wins. ★★★★★ Content warnings can be found on the books copyright page

I wanna cry so that I can mourn the hours that I lost reading this story, cause this was not a good one. Okay, so hear me out. It did start out good, and had some potential, but then it just went downhill!

I grew tired with the FMC for being whiny and just annoying as hell. She is on her way to become an alcoholic from the way her drinking habits are described. And why? Cause her breakup with her Ex (who left her after he took her V-card) led her to call her brother in tears and him trying to get to her which is why he ends up in a car accident and ends up in a wheel chair, which causes so much grief to her father that he gets a heart attack and dies. Really.... That was quite heavy for being the beginning of the book! All these events leads up to her drinking and partying habits cause she feels responsible for everything.

Her family sends her to England where she starts working for the MMC. These two keeps going around in circles, cause the FMC is throwing a pity-party and calling herself f***ed up, and the MMC does the same and that's why these two can't be together according to the MMC. And he is also her boss, so he feels that that would be wrong.

Fast forward, they actually hooks up and ends up together. Here is where the (in my eyes pointless and unnecessary) "drama" started. The FMC finds out about her BFFs affair with the man who caused her brothers accident. This was sooooooo unnecessary to add to this story. This caused the FMC distress and wanting to end things with the BFF cause she felt deceived and lied to. And it was quite obvious that this was just added in the story to make in longer. It was brought up in the book so randomly, and it just felt out of place.

I feel the same thing about the MMCs sisters boyfriend being the MMCs enemies son. Like whaaaat? You are telling me that the MMC was in jail for 2,5 years of his life for defending and protecting his sister, only for her to run into the enemies sons arm. WHAT THE ACTUAL F**K?! That's probably the most disloyal thing a sister can do to her brother. I was disgusted!!!! That pissed me off so much, and I thought that this is where the real drama starts. But noooo, the MMC just accepted it. I wanted to see some arguments and even fights. And I don't give a flying f**k about the enemies son not being like his father, cause an enemy is an enemy. And loyalty to YOUR family is everything. Specially in a case like this!!!

So these two so called "dramatic" situations left a really bad taste in my mouth. And when I thought that the story couldn't get worse, it did. So fast forward, the FMC finds out that the MMCs biological father is the enemy himself....talk about random, and the MMC was working to take down the enemy and this is something that the FMC found out. Surprise, surprise! And she just randomly shows up at the scene where this is supposed to take place. And mind you, there is no explanation to how the FMC found out where the MMC was. Her showing up was obviously a bad thing and ended up with her almost getting raped by the enemy and both of them killed. And she kind of crashed the cops undercover mission too! And why, just so she could stop the MMC from killing the enemy AKA birthfather cause he was preventing him from raping her, a situation that she brought upon herself (I would normally never blame a girl for being S.A. but this is the only time I can't say that she wasn't at fault). This was exhausting!

This all lead to the MMC becoming all emo and breaking up with the FMC cause "he got the enemies blood running through his veins". He really pulled an Edward from New Moon and told her that he never loved her and everything between them was fake and yada yada. Good, this was so baaaaad!

At this point I was just so over the book. This was so bad! I don't understand how authors manage to run a good storyline like this, by adding unnecessary drama and shit that doesn't make sense. It's obvious that some authors just throw something together so that their books can be published and released so they can make money out of it, and this is exactly that. There is absolutely no thought put into the story.

So yeah, I kind of wanna mourn the hours I wasted on this book, and save yourself so you don't have to do it too!

dnf @ 43%

I feel bad writing this as this book wasn't horrendous, and I will be reading the next in the series - but I hope the next book is shorter! I'm barely 50% and the characters are already acting like they've been in love and are going to get married (and have been for the past 50 odd pages). There just is no gap between them getting to know each other and them being in love. The entire relationship is built on lust, and there is nothing in the novel to convince me otherwise. For that reason I just can't bring to myself to continue, especially considering I have over 200 pages to go.

DNF at 45%. Was trying hard to get into it but once the part about her best friend was added, I was done. Just took me out of it.

Also, at the beginning, she sounds like she's on the way to becoming an alcoholic. And her family thinks it would be a good idea to not only send her to England, but to a distillery?! I know us Irish are well known for our drinking but jfc the Brits aren't that far behind... just didn't work for me at all.

Another masterpiece by Elle! Her writing has a way of drawing you into the plot and characters which makes it impossible not to become emotionally invented in the story. Time with Mr. Silver is filled with laughter, loss and heartbreak. But above all, the story is about healing, love and hope.

Dax Silver. My latest obsession. Moody, confusing but also the most caring and protective man you’ll ever meet. He is also inked and pierced (oof!) He was dealt a bad hand in life. He lost his parents at a young age and had to grow up fast. He was thrust into a business he knew nothing about and had to look after himself and also his little sister Jasmin. He was put away for defending her and he became closed off when he returned home. His one goal was to take down the man who cost him years of his life until a beautiful, broken blond crashed into his life.

Rose Jacobs, a lost soul merely trying to survive. She blamed herself for the terrible things that happened to her loved ones. The guilt she harboured grew stronger by the day. Alcohol was her constant company. Her family was worried and believed a change of scenery would be good for her. They pulled some strings and got her a job at Dax’s estate.

Dax guided her to find the silver lining and helped her see the beauty in herself. It was an experience she did not know she needed. He worshipped the ground she walked on, yet he had to stay away. He was full of secrets. He could not bring himself to involve her in the dangerous ugly parts of his life. However when Rose’s past caught up with her, she desperately wanted to numb the pain with drinks and sex. Territorial Dax was having none of it. When they finally gave in to their desires, sparks flew. Their chemistry was insanely hot.

There was a lot of depth to the story, not only about love between two people but also self-love. Being able to forgive, accept and move on. To see Dax and Rose come to their own, find love in themselves and for one another, it made my heart swell. The twists and turns and actions Elle added to the book made it even more engaging. Infinite stars for the Silvers!

Wow! I just finished reading this and feel like I need a moment to gather my thoughts!

We met Rose in the previous book of this series and to be honest I wasn’t sure I was going to warm to her. She’s been through some trauma and she blames herself for a lot of heartache her family has been through. In the first part of the book, this is a big focus for her character and whilst it does continue as a theme throughout, I loved how Elle developed her character and how much growth she showed. I really liked her by the end of the book.

There is quite a bit of suspense and a few twists I didn’t see coming which kept me guessing and I think I read the second half of the story in one sitting- I couldn’t put it down and kept wanting to get through to the HEA!

Dax is an interesting and complex character who starts off really closed off but once he falls for Rose he falls hard. He’s fighting his own demons, but together they’re a beautiful couple- absolutely perfect for each other.

Thank you so much Elle for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

This is my favourite of the men series, the story is so addictive.

I love Dax and Rose and how they were able to see beyond each other’s broken pieces to provide peace and strength so they could heal and move forward. The amazing plot provided mystery, suspense, heartbreak and joy.

Ciaran Saward and Kelly Burke brilliantly bring these characters to life.

You will find everything in this book, amazing plot with twists, suspense, spice, heartbreak and hope.

I love Rose and Dax. Rose feisty and broken, Dax broody and focused on revenge. Neither feeling deserving of love but drawn to one another, they heal each others wounds and provide each other the strength to forgive and accept themselves and see a future. Their journey to HEA is not easy, it’s a gripping story bringing out all the emotions but luckily Love Always Wins.

I highly recommend. This has been one of my top reads this year.

Thank you Elle for writing yet another amazing book! I love Dax, Rose and their story. I was shocked at the twists that came (more than one!)

I’m not ashamed to admit that I cried at what Rose went through both before Dax and after him. This is such a beautifully written book and done so well! I can’t wait for more to come!

Dax and Rose are actually my everything rn. Time With Mr. Silver is beautiful. It's heartbreaking and raw, but also inspiring and full of hope.

Rose is a stunning FMC. She's damaged yes sure, but she finds a way to see through the self inflicted pain she's put herself through for years. It's not easy, and it's definitely not instant, but it's real and raw and I love her so much. Her strength and resilience shines. She is a badass and tough on the outside, while also being so compassionate and caring. I love her character!

Then there's Dax. This man stole my heart, on the outside, he's tattooed, grumpy, and has a personality that goes hot and cold. But really? He's driven, passionate, and cares so much about the people in his life, he'll go to any lengths to protect them. The parallels between his character and Rose's are part of what really drew me in to this story. And to boot? Dax is so freaking HOT! Tender and rough in one swoop, he's the best of both worlds.

These two have stolen my heart. Their entire story, together and separately. The hurtles they've overcome, the inner work and peace they try to achieve. The love and devotion they show each other. And the family and friends they've surrounded themselves with. Absolutely touching. 💛

Oh man, the start of the book was , Rose a hot mess. What am I getting into reading this book, nooo!! But hell what a way to start cause it was perfect. Enter Dax Silver. And let's just say it just spinned until it fit right in. The story evolves for Rose and Dax with them entwined with each other that you have nothing else to say but I love you! I loved the new secondary characters introduced in this story. And bond between best mates and a bond between a brother and a sister and the lengths they go to protect each other.
The strength that Rose shows , to prove to herself that she is stronger than she knows. And Dax , that man, he is everything. Alpha-Dom who is a cinnamon at heart. The elite combination!! And both together, they are mind-blowing.

I loved this book. Is there anything that Elle could go wrong in. No no she doesn't.

Dax and Rose are my absolute favourite couple!! This book has everything you need: a hot tattooed British leading man, a blonde American bombshell, and steamy, smexy times that will leave you blushing and fanning your face. I swear I could feel every emotion Rose felt as I read: doubts, heartache, fear, and hope while falling in love. A couple of times, I had to stop reading to wipe up my tears or muffle a scream.

Transatlantic travel from New York to Britain brings Rose to Dax's family-run gin distillery. Finding out that her family pulled strings to land her an accounting position isn't sitting well with her. She certainly wasn't expecting her new boss to be hot as sin. She's still reeling after discovering her best friend has lied to her for three years about a significant event, and it will take a lot for her to recover from it. Dax is dealing with keeping his family's business together after spending time locked up for defending his sister. He tries to avoid contact with Rose but finds it extremely difficult to stay away from his Sunbeam. The attraction between the two of them is full-on combustion. Dax knows Rose has entered his life at the worst time possible, but he can't resist her. Rose finds her panties are always soaked when Dax is near. They can't keep their hands off each other. But Dax has secrets he's keeping from Rose that will profoundly affect their future. He needs forty-eight hours; then he can tell her everything. When the time is up, nothing has gone according to plan, and Rose and Dax are left in precarious positions. What chance do they stand against the truth?

This was a heart-wrenching, love-filled edition to The Men Series. I was sucked into the story, wishing I was Sunbeam, that Dax was mine. Each book in this series is better than the last, but this is my favourite.

Rose lives in a world of her own demons. Unable to let go of the guilt of the past she seems to be stuck in time. After several attempts to help her family sets up a job for her in England working as an accountant for the Silver Estates. Little does she know she going to be walking into so much more than a new job.

Dax Silver, protective, broody, with tattoos and a piercing is carrying around the weight of the world after spending 2 1/2 years in jail for beating a man who tried to hurt his sister. Fueled by revenge he has closed himself off to anything other than his work, getting back at the man who hurt his family, and protecting his sister…that is until a blonde woman charged into his life smelling of vanilla and petals. He tries to show restraint and keep his distance however when one soul seeks another, there is no stopping it.

The one thing Rose asks is to not be lied to, but does that stand true of a lie by omission to keep her safe? This story is full of healing, forgiving your past, and finding who Rose and Dax were always meant to be. Dax helps Rose find her silver lining and she helps him see who he truly is under his armor. The chemistry and heat in this book is perfect and their emotional connection makes your heart melt.

I love this whole series and can’t wait for what comes next from Elle. Her way with words and stories are nothing short of perfection.

2 words... Dax. Silver.
Holy Mother of God that tattooed man is perfection. Piercing and all 🥵 This book was a little darker than Elle's other books, but by far my favourite one! We got a glimpse of Rose in Trapped with Mr Walker - her being Harley's sister - and man, has she been through it. Enter Mr Dax Silver in all his tattooed and pierced glory! He's also been put through the ringer throughout his life and is a bit of a tortured soul. But underneath his dark exterior is just a big romantic teddy bear 🥰
Elle - as always - has the ability to make you feel every word, emotion and feeling on every page, and that is why she remains one of my favourite authors.
Can't wait for Logan's story! (Kinda fell in love with him too)

I loved this book so much!!!
I instantly fell in love with Rose and Dax both as a couple and individual characters.
The character development throughout this book was so good, and it made me feel closer to them both as I felt like I was right there with them.
There were so many sweet and 🌶 moments in this book and it added to the plot and the characters so much.
I did not want this book to end but I loved reading it!❤️

'The girl who came from New York and crashed into my world like a meteor.'

I could not wait to read the next instalment in the Men Series. Elle Nicoll does not disappoint!

Another fabulous addition to the Men Series. This is a super hot, steamy, swoony yet slightly dark gritty read.

I love how all the books are standalone but you get snippets of the side characters from other stories. Like Reed and Harley.

I loved following Dax and Rose in their journey full of twists and turns but Love Always Wins!

I cannot wait to read Logans Story.

Time With Mr. Silver by @ellenicollauthor

“I promised you infinity, Rose. And I meant it. Even if you never forgive me, I will never stop. Months, years, decades… I will love you through them all. Because time itself will run out before my love for you ever will.”

I had the opportunity to read the latest book in, The Men series and as always it delivered.

Rose is Harley’s sister who lives with her family in Upstate New York. The book starts with her family being concerned because Rose isn’t truly living. She is stuck in the trauma of her past and her family feels the only way for her to move forward is to get away from it all. So, Rose ends up across the pond in the UK working as an accountant for none other than Dax Silver.

Dax, like Rose, has had trauma in his past leaving him very much a man living without truly living. He has been through a lot making his miserable, grumpy persona understandable to the reader.

This is almost a grumpy/grumpy trope because both of these people need serious healing. They are both broken but they don’t stay that way for long once they are in each other’s lives.

I loved his softness for her and his grisly nature toward everyone else. Their banter was superb and the side plot that involved some mystery and intrigue truly elevated their story. Dax made me swoon and sweat as he knew how to talk in the bedroom. Rose was very inexperienced so seeing her discover some of her power in the bedroom was another bonus.

Elle always knows how to bring the tropes and this book is no exception. Theirs spice, swoon, intrigue, plot and character development that makes you fall for these two.

Why did I finish this book??? Annoying FMC and the MMC was not much better! If he described her scent as "vanilla and petals" one more time, I was going to toss the book across the room! Book was too long and random plot twists that came out of nowhere! Unfortunately, I can't get the time back I wasted reading this!

Where to start. By far Elle has pulled it out of the bag with this book based on Dax and Rose.
This book is everything and more, it left me speechless and wanting more I absolutely adored it so much and has to be my fave Elle book to date. This book had so much pain but was it was so beautifully executed and how they belong to each other. Their chemistry is wow! What tops it off is Dax is tattooed and pierced!!

I need this in paperback so I can return to this book over and over again!

This book was way more than I expected. Mr. Silver was known as the mystery guy from Trapped with Mr. Walker and Rose was a secondary character. You do not have to read it but I would suggest it. This story is about pain, guilt, and forgiveness. This story was beautiful to read because the pain in this felt real and the forgiveness was courageous. This book truly felt raw and I loved it. These two together were just everything I wanted in a book.

I was so happy that Rose got her own books so we could see her point of view on everything that happened. And Dax he’s legit the perfect combination of dominant protective and soft for his sister and Rose. Their chemistry was over the top and so freaking amazing, the spicy scenes were so freaking hot 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Both of them went through so much and I just l love how they helped each other to heal and to see themselves as more than they both thought of themselves. This book was so great and amazing, it was hard to put it down because the whole story was so captivating. Elle Nicoll knows how to capture us and how to write an amazing story with all the feelings 😍. This couple is so perfect for each other because they learn how to fight their demons and to fall in love with life again. They just get each other and see behind the facade. All in all a great story just as always from Elle ❤️❤️❤️
And it was so lovely to read about Harley and Reed again 🥹❤️

Topics: Jail, drinking, family members passed away, strip club, cheating, betrayals, piercings & tattoos, self doubt

Letting go of the past is a huge topic for both Rose & Dax. They both have dealt with big life events that changed them into who they are now.

Rose used to date a guy who really didn’t care about her & when they were having an argument she left. She was distraught & her brother came out to find her & was then involved in a hit & run that left him in a wheelchair. Their dad ends up passing from a heart attack from the stress of it all. Rose blames herself for his injury & her fathers death so she continues to drink & try to not feel anything.

Dax is a tattooed “bad boy” in England who with his sister were orphaned when he became an adult & had to take care of his sister & his grandparents company. He then went to jail protecting his younger sister from a creepy man who also ends up being his rival in business.

When Dax is released on good behavior he grants a favor from a friend in the states who has a friend that needs a change of scenery & to find herself. Rose is brought on in the accounting department & does a wonderful job.

They of course have chemistry and while he is her boss things escalate quickly. He is obsessed with her as she is with him.

Guys. There’s a mirror scene. Multiple mirror scenes that it’s. 🤤🪞

I can’t say too much more because I don’t want to give away any spoilers but there is a big plot twist at the end of the book that I didn’t expect at all! But what you as the reader can expect is to see betrayal, undercover work, & love in this book. You’ll also see past characters mentioned from previous books.

Quotes I loved:

🖤 “I said I bet you have virgin skin. I wasn’t asking if you’ve never fucked before.”
✨ “What? Horror movies are more realistic.” “You think you’re more likely to be chopped up by a psycho with an axe than fall in love?”
🖤 I am my own silver lining.

I absolutely loved this book! I feel like every new book of Elle Nicoll’s I read gets better and better and this book is no exception.
Dax Silver has taken Reed Walkers place as my favourite MMC of Nicolls books and I love the journey he and Rose go on - how she makes him want to be better and how he helps her forgive herself and the people around her.
Definitely my favourite of Elle’s books and thank you Elle for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

This book didn't work for me in so many ways, which really sucks because I adore this series! It has been amazing thus far, but this one missed the mark.

One of my issues was Rose herself and her family. She had severe issues from what happened with her ex, her brother, and her dad. She was partying and drinking like crazy. Now I get all that. Traumatic events affect people differently. Instead of genuinely trying to help her, her family pitied her and sent her off to work at a distillery. Um... they were so worried about her drinking that they sent her to a place that makes alcoholic drinks 🙄 how is that helpful?

Now, my other issue comes in with Rose and Dax as a couple. They went from oh can't be with each other because we are both messed up, yada yada to oh we love each other and everything is great. All in a span of about 50 pages. There wasn't any development between the two. It just didn't feel genuine like the other couples.

Then, if those two aspects weren't annoying enough, the unnecessary bullshit drama! They added Casey being the mistress of the guy that ran Brett over. How this makes sense I don't even know. It wasn't hinted at. Nothing. It just comes out of nowhere. Ok. Moving on, thinking I can get past that portion. Next is Jasmin being with the "enemys" son. Again, her brother went to jail over that crap and now Jasmin is with him? Like tell me how that makes any sense! After that, I just didn't care anymore. I wanted to stop reading, but I had already gotten this far. It was a mistake to keep reading because more unnecessary drama insued.

I wish things had been done differently with this couple because their book could have been AMAZING! Just a lot of aspects that didn't work. Hopefully the next book is better.

Sunrises for infinity for the win!

In trying to get Rose out of her funk, her family finds a job for her in England, thinking the change of scenery will help. Here she meets Dax, the owner of the company, and someone who's very hot and cold with her to begin with. Their relationship burns when they finally give in, but Dax is hiding something as well. Add in other secrets from Rose's past that are coming to light, and Rose isn't sure who to trust. So what happens when Dax's secrets put Rose in danger?

Dax and Rose get their happy ending in this standalone book in a series.

Poor Rose! She gets better, then has her heart ripped out by the one person who helped her feel again. While I do appreciate that Dax was looking out for her, I feel he should have told her a little of what was going on and given her a hint sooner than when the items in the safe deposit box were no longer needed. I do wonder how often, assuming Rose started working for Silver Estates again, people walked in on them together. It will be fun to see these two in the next book and how Logan sees them!

ARC Review - thank you so much Elle!

Dax and Rose was such a sweet story. Two people carrying a burden from their past, helping one another heal. Wasn't sure what to expect as we hadn't seen much of Rose in the previous book and Dax was totally new but woooow did these two make my heart burst!

The pain and angst that Elle writes always hits, and this one hit almost as hard as Reed and Harley's story. You really felt their suffering and healing, their journey was fantastic. I loved how much they rooted for one another to see past their scars and to move forward.

Also loved the way Elle brought back past characters! And that one of the leads was from England again - back to her roots ;)

Remember to always look for a silver lining✨
