Daughters of Men: The Subliminal World Series

Rate this book
When Willow McKenna begins having dreams set in a time period before she was born, starring a drop-dead gorgeous stranger, she chalks it up to her overactive imagination. After all, she has more important things to worry impending school newspaper deadlines, her next shift at the local diner, navigating her feelings for her cute coworker, Mason, and making it through her last year of high school.

But as strange clues start piling up, and her dreams become more intense and ultra-vivid, Willow realizes there is something more going on than initially meets the eye. Suddenly, Willow’s days are filled with burning new questions about her newfound gifts and her family’s long-hidden history — while her nights are occupied with the boy in her dreams.

With the reappearance of suspicious figures from her father’s past, an impassioned love triangle, and a power play of heavenly proportions, Willow’s senior year of high school is turning out quite different than she expected — whether she likes it or not.

*I was provided a free ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Laura!!*

To start, everything I adored about Daughters of Men; the concept and the plot is *chefs kiss*. There’s so much potential for what’s to come and I am very excited for it! I am a pure lover of everything fantasy, paranormal and Sci-Fi, but I do tend to reach for the same type of plots but this was very fresh and new for me. Diving into reading this, it starts slow. I’m very used to heavy world building in a couple hundred pages, so this wasn’t a bother for me, but I know it is for some. Once the plot picks up though about 40% in, I was up till about 2 AM fighting sleep to finish it haha.
Willows best friend, though not a major character, is one of my favorites and great comedic relief and I really need to put my appreciation out for Shannon out there.
The lore and history that’s brought up when Willow figures out her history was so intriguing to me, I really can’t wait till we learn more. The big reveal threw me for a loop and was not at all what I thought it would be!

My not so loved parts; though Willow is a young 18 year old in her senior year, I do feel like she’s made to be a little too naive. At some points it was almost irritable, and I’m sure this was done of purpose to a point. She’s adorable and the inner monologues are pure gold sometimes, but at others I really just wanted someone to shake her and put some sense into her. I felt she could’ve had more growth. I’m ultimately glad she was made to be a more realistic strong willed, stubborn 18 year old, there’s just moments it went just a little too far for me.
The introduction of Mason in the beginning seemed very abrupt to me for some reason. I really can’t place exactly why, but it felt rushed. We meet him and then within a few short minutes of reading the big plot questions start unraveling. I felt like more backstory or just a few more simple scenes could’ve been put in from when we met him to when all the questions start coming out.

Overall, I really enjoyed Daughters of Men and definitely recommend this!

“You’re my wow.” “And you’re my full stop.”

The concept and the plot in this book is everything!

This was an amazing fantasy, Sci-fi, paranormal read with a very interesting and fascinating plot that will keep you hooked from the start.

A love triangle between our 18 year old main girl and two attractive boys.

I was honestly reading this book more about the plot than the romance, I have read a lot of books with kind of the same story line but this one is different from what I usually read and I loved that!

The characters were written well, and the world was beautiful!
Also team Mason all the way!!!

Thank you to the author for providing me a free copy🫶🏼

I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. OK here we go… 1st of all I just want to say Daughters of Men is Laura Van Reed’s debut novel and I am in awe!!!! The creative mind that spawned this world of mystery, romance and flat out laugh out loud loveable characters has blown my mind. If this is Laura Van Reed’s debut, then I am down for the ride for whatever she is bringing us next. So, it goes really without saying that this is a 5 HUGE Star review. Daughters of Men is book 1 in the exciting and mysterious Subliminal World series. The story revolves around an 18-year-old high school student named Willow McKenna and yes, I love this heroine. This coming of age love triangle has all the pieces needed to start a series that I will gladly set my calendar for each and every book to follow. The romantic interests in this book… UGH!!! Let’s just say I’m glad I’m not Willow, and I don’t have to choose. I love when an author leaves me loving both with equal gut-wrenching enthusiasm. I just know at some point in future books that may change but right now I’m undecided. I will also say… everyone needs a BFF like Willow’s friend Shannon. I am really looking forward to seeing what spice, snark and hilarity comes out of her mouth in book 2. Willow grows so much throughout this book. You can feel the naive high school innocence melt away as her family secrets are reviled. I will not spoil any of the mystery here, but I will say there are so many secrets in this book that I am so excited to see how they play out. So, hurry up Laura and give me book 2!! Bravo to an amazing talented author. You have a cheerleader and #1 fan with this reader!!

Whoa! Daughters of Men was unputdownable! Amazing story line completely captivated my attention, with mixtures of suspense, mystery and romance between two sexy guys. I’m team Mason, sorry Cole. I think it’s the bond for me, or his grumpiness. Sometimes you just need a good fantasy read, focusing on dreams and subliminal worlds, with angels and satan in play, and this one did not disappoint. There was a sneak peak of book 2 included, and I cannot wait for more of the Willow, Mason and Cole love triangle.
