“Hiromix, born in 1976, started as a high school student to tie down her world through her camera lens. In 1995 she won the first prize of the renowned ‘New Photo Generation Competition’. She has published several Girlsblue, Hikari, Japanese Beauty, and Tokyo. Hiromix lives in Tokyo.” Steidl

Hiromix is the quintessential representative of a flush of hugely popular young Japanese women photographers (onnanoko shashinka, or "girly” photographers) whose subject matter, simple and everyday things (self and friends, immediate surroundings, cats, dolls, food) was captured using a simple point ant shoot technique. Critic Kotaro Iizawa devoted an entire book to the the onnanoko shashinka, who were the rage in the 1990s Japanese photography world. Hiromix was championed by Nobuyoshi Araki, who was largely responsible for her winning the photo competition mentioned above. A Hiromix boom occurred after she was awarded the grand prix.
