Katie Davis has had her whole life planned out for her since birth. She, along with every other citizen of Carcera, is predestined to marry her perfect Match. She knows that she will eventually have two children, and that none of the citizens will ever leave the Border, the wall of stone encircling the city. No one could have predicted, however, the harrowing night that forces Katie and her three best friends to flee for their lives only days after their Matching Ceremony. With nowhere to go, Katie and her friends must make impossible choices at every turn. They are faced with life-altering decisions, such as whether or not to join the Underground, a resistance army dedicated to overthrowing Borders. The smaller choices seem just as unfathomable as the larger ones-what to eat for dinner, what to do in their free time, and even what to wear. When their luck begins to run out, they are left with only two options: fight, or die. Match is the first installment of The Matchbook Trilogy.
Match by Emma Grace is an action-packed dystopian novel that will take you on an adventurous and emotional rollercoaster ride. It is the first book in the Matchbook trilogy.
Author Emma Grace has done a fabulous job of creating a realistic and intricate world that pulls in the readers from the beginning and keeps them thoroughly engaged until the very last page, ending the book on a perfect cliffhanger. This book has rich and well-developed characters and is an excellently plotted novel that is fast-paced and laced with edgy and unpredictable twists and turns. Overall, the writing is good and complimented the plot very well.
I would definitely recommend this book to all dystopian fiction fans and fans of elaborate and intrinsic world-building in fantasy novels. This book is a perfect read for anyone wanting to explore a series by a talented new author. ___________________________
I just finished this book in one setting! It is absolutely the best story I've read in years. I felt like I was right there in the story! What experience that was! Emma is such a gifted writer. Get this book. You won't regret it! I can't wait for her next book to come out!
I couldn't put it down. I was in a reading funk after finishing Varity. This was the perfect book to read after. The author did a fantastic job at developing the characters and I absolutely can not wait to see what happens.
The book was well paced and easy to read. I missed the characters today when I remembered I finished the book.
I haven’t picked up dystopian in a while and it was interesting to get back into the world! As a debut writer I think Emma smashed it! Easy to follow, interesting, and hard to put down.
I was rooting for Katie and Chris the whole time. Very interested to see where things go next.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were likeable and made me care about their trials. I am a fan of dystopian and post-apocalyptic fiction and this one hooked me from the beginning. Amazing for a first book.
A fast-paced and beautifully written debut novel by an author with a gift for drawing you into the story. It pulls at your heartstrings and you’re left with no choice but to feel like you’re right there with Katie and her friends. And let’s not forget the cliffhanger of an ending! Well done Emma Grace! Bring on the next one!
Before I was a mom, I worked with this author’s mom. The author was just a little girl back then! She contacted me and asked if I would read her book and I had to say yes. Match is the first in a trilogy about Katie and her friends, who have to go on the run when they resist the idea of their lives being determined for them. There were some parts of the book that I wondered about, like why there was an evacuation towards the beginning of the book; however I thought this book was well written and I was never bored while reading it. Katie and her friends had fun times as well as times where they had to battle with others. I am definitely curious what will happen to them in their future!
