I adored Golden Books when I was little. This one was one of my favorites, not only because I love fairy tales, but the illustrations are gorgeous! This is timeless and should be passed down to all generations to come. I think this was one of few books that my parents didn't mind reading to me over and over again!
Goldilocks and the Three Bears is a classic. It has a funny story and leaves you wondering. Why is this girl behaving like this. She walks into an open house. She eats their porridge and two of the bowls are not even good enough for her. She tries out three chairs and breaks the last chair. she tries out all three beds and falls asleep in the baby bears bed. When the bear family come home they see the eaten food and damage and they find her sleeping in the bed. When they find her she gets up and runs away. This is not normal behavior so I think a great activity would be for students to act out or write their own fairy tale. In their fairy tale they will talk through Goldilocks point if view. They will get thinking about why she may be showing this kind of behavior. This is creative for them they can express their interpretation of this little girls character.
What is there to say about Goldilocks & the Three Bears? It's among one of the first stories I remember my parents reading to me. However, this particular edition (the Golden Books edition) sticks with me for a different reason...it scared the daylights out of me when I was about 3-4 years old! There was something about the way "Papa Bear" was illustrated that caused me anxiety. Looking back, I laugh and it is an odd way to remember a book. It goes to show that often, illustrations are just as impacting as the plot itself!
