"Handle With Care" introduces us to Dr. Hunter Montgomery, who, while grieving the loss of his partner, takes on the role of Chief Medical Officer at Chase Care in New Orleans. This new position unexpectedly brings him back into the orbit of Dr. Selma Bryant, a woman from his past with whom he shares a history spanning almost two decades. Selma, a dedicated professional with a background in the US Army, finds herself working alongside Hunter once again. However, Selma departs for a volunteer mission with Doctor's Abroad at an African refugee camp, carrying a secret with her. When a deadly outbreak hits the camp, threatening hundreds of thousands of lives, Hunter and the Chase Medical team are called upon to intervene and save Selma and the affected population. The story then unfolds as they battle the virus and confront their long-standing feelings for each other.

"Handle With Care" is a book that certainly packs a lot in. The author has clearly done extensive research into the medical aspects, and for readers who enjoy detailed medical jargon and procedures, this book will likely feel very authentic. The suspense element surrounding the deadly outbreak in the refugee camp is well-planned and creates a sense of urgency throughout the story. The backdrop of a medical crisis provides a high-stakes environment for the rekindling of Hunter and Selma's romance.

"Handle With Care" offers a detailed and suspenseful medical romantic thriller that will likely appeal to readers who enjoy a blend of genres and appreciate a well-researched narrative. While some may find the number of characters and technical language challenging, the high-stakes plot and the potential for a satisfying second-chance romance earn it a rating of 3 out of 5 stars.

My Rating System:
1⭐️: The book didn’t hold my interest and/or had significant issues that overshadowed any redeeming qualities for me, but generally not my cup of tea. Most likely did not finish the book.
2⭐️: The book didn’t quite resonate with me, and while my experience wasn’t remarkable, I did finish it. It had some redeeming qualities and potential but fell short in execution. Recommendable, though with some reservations.
3⭐️: Good read, but didn’t quite stand out. Still worth recommending to others.
4⭐️: Really enjoyed it and stayed engaged throughout. Would read book again. Definitely recommendable.
5⭐️: Incredible writing that made me deeply connect with the characters. I was completely absorbed in the world and didn’t want it to end. This book stayed with me even when I wasn’t reading it. I'd gladly reread it and highly recommend it to everyone!.

I’m not sure how I feel about this book, so I’m going to start this another way and I’ll make a decision at the conclusion. First let’s start by saying the way this book reads, tells me the author did a lot of research before writing. It might be a book of fiction but Handle with Care read as something that could be very informative as well. There was slight romance tied in, but it mainly focused on a deadly outbreak and how to stop it. Finding the source of how it started. Containing it to the general encampment of 400,000 people. Yes, that's a lot of people but worldwide would be worse. Finding out why it impacted men at a more casualty rate than women. The author when answering those questions put lots of thoughts and responses behind it.
There was really only one question that came to mind while reading it. That was, Was this intentional? A question that’s addressed by characters and becomes part of the context about midway through, then till the end is how to answer that question and respond.
Dr. Hunter Montgomery and Dr. Selma Bryant have known each other for years. Both of them former military medics for different branches of the military. However they constantly crossed paths and worked together. Selma was married at the time so personal interest between them wasn’t a thing. Even though her husband suspected it was. Now years later they’ve found one another again and are building a life together, till Selma runs. And ran she did, right to the UN relief agency Doctors Abroad, which landed her in Northern Rusda. Signing a contract that would bring her home in April she thought she was doing a great thing and helping out those who didn’t have easy access to care, despite the real reason she was there.
You can guess what happens next: people start getting sick/dying at an alarming rate and they can’t figure out the how and why? As I continued to read I started to wonder if the jealous ex-husband had something to do with it. At the same time that would be a lot to get revenge on one person. So I bumped it to the back burner but the question continued to simmer.
This book is written to me in a journal type format, each day this is what happens. I think that’s what took me out of it some. I didn’t dislike it but I didn’t love it either.
If you enjoy medical outbreak dramas this is definitely for you. The author displays knowledge and understanding of what’s being written. Giving the reader so much information to help them understand everything that’s going on keeping them locked in on the story.

Dr Hunter Montgomery is heart broken and lost, losing a partner is always hard so when he is promoted in Chase Care to Chief Medical Office, he throws all he has at it, it becomes his life until one night in she comes throwing him off balance and re-evaluating his priorities.

Dr Selma Bryant sees him across the room, the guy who she has loved for years but the timing could not be the worst. Selma has agreed to take an assignment in Africa with Doctors without borders to help the current pandemic which is in full swing there but can she help reduce the virus without anything happening to her.

As things get hairy and Hunter and the team make there way to Africa to help, can they save the camp and Dr Bryant?

I love this author and her brilliant writing and character development. This is a spin off series from Chase Security and although this can be read as a stand-alone series, some characters and history maybe useful from reading the Chase Security but not essential.

I loved that the first book is Hunter’s stories, the way the story develops and unwinds is brilliant to read and will have you turning the pages to see what happens next in this thrilling book. Selma is a perfect Ying to Hunter’s character, and they compliment each other brilliantly, also with their back story you fell like you are in the story and following as a friend rather than a reader.

The twist and turns in this well written story will have you up wanting to read the next chapter and before you know it you are at the end of the book and in a huge emotional wreak. Thank you for adding this series to the Chase family and can’t wait to read more in the future.

This book has so much going on...and it was hard to put down. It is quite a long read, so be prepared!

After losing his partner, Dr. Hunter Montgomery throws himself head-first into his job. When a face from his past enters his operating room, he is comforted by seeing Dr. Selma Bryant. They easily fall into a comfortable rhythm of working together. After a couple of years, they begin dating. But, when Selma runs into her abusive ex, she runs away by taking a humanitarian mission overseas. What happens next is something that had every ounce of my attention. An infectious disease begins spreading, it becomes apparent that something isn't right and Hunter and his team will needs to get to the bottom of it before more people die. The virus begins to infect those around them, and both Selma and Hunter are forced to confront their pasts. Can they survive the virus? Can they survive against those working to keep them apart?

I enjoyed Hunter and Selma's characters. They are both hard working and wanting to do whatever they can to help those around them. Once they get past the issue that drove them apart before Selma left...you can see that they will do anything to protect each other. However, some people are working against them at every turn. This book had so much going on...from secret military/medical missions, to bioterrorism, to vengeful exes, and there was even some romance. Overall, a good story that I found myself engrossed in until the end.

Firstly make sure you don't start reading this later at night as it isn't a short book and you don't want to end up like me at 3.30am in the morning finishing it as you couldn't put it down. This book is set in the here and now along with revisiting the past. If your like me and haven't read any of the Chase Security series I did get a bit confused at first with everyone and their background as there are a lot of different people involved at times, the further in the book you get the more you can keep them straight.
The first part of the book is a build up to the here and now so you get snap shots in time over the years of Hunter and Selma's story and just when things are going well a secret is kept and Selma takes off to Doctor’s Abroad at an African refugee camp. There is a lot of inner turmoil for both Hunter and Selma to work through and then things turn deadly at the refuge camp leading you on a high adrenalin and dangerous race against time.
You meet great characters, get some good laughs, shed a few tears, have some great twists and heart stopping moments. I can't wait to read the next in the series and I also want to go back and read the Chase Security series and meet everyone through their stories!.

A gripping medical romance suspense story which had me hooked from page one. Following the death of his partner Dr. Hunter Montgomery is promoted to Chief Medical Officer of Chase Care, in New Orleans. A face from his past, Dr. Selma Bryant, catches up with his present when she walks into his operating room. Selma has devoted most of her professional life to the US Army, even leaving the man she’s always loved, Hunter behind. However, Selma can’t stay with Hunter as she’s volunteered with Doctor’s Abroad at an African refugee camp.
Selma leaves with a secret, but having run from Hunter, she must deal with a deadly outbreak that is claiming the lives of refugees and volunteers. As the number of fatalities grow Hunter and the Chase Medical team are tasked with saving Selma and those in the camp. If Hunter and Selma survive the virus they might find their happily ever after together. This is a gripping story full of drama, tragedy, suspense and of course romance. The setting is brought vividly to life by the descriptive narrative and the characters are likeable and relatable. The chemistry between Selma and Hunter sizzle off the page, and I liked how their relationship developed throughout the storyline. An emotional rollercoaster of a read, but one which I definitely recommend.

Handle with Care is the first book in a new series Chase Care. It is a spin off from one of my favourite series Chase Security series which I love, love, love. After reading this book I am just as in love with the characters and can’t wait to see where the rest of the series goes.
This story is not for the feint hearted. It is a fast paced, medical romance thriller that will have your heart pumping and you on the edge of your seat. It is a tale that feels all so real with the current pandemic and what could be. As the pages turn there is plenty of action, the tension is palpable, the fear is real and there is danger is around every corner. It is a world turned upside down where revenge seems sweet, redemption seems impossible and love is a complication.
These brave and heroic men and women know what they are walking into and are willing to put their lives on the line to save others in the most selfless act. BUT can they save them all including themselves?
I am not going to ruin the story with spoilers as it is one of those stories that you need to discover thread by thread that RL carefully wove all on your own.
As always, I look forward to the next book Tender Loving Care (Seth and Poppy’s story) with bated breath.

Handle With Care is the first book in the Chase Care series, which is a spin-off from the Chase Security series which is one of my favourite series. I was so glad to jump back into the Chase world and this certainly did not disappoint. Far, far from it!
When reviewing a book like this, I realise that I give to many 5 star ratings. By this I mean that this book is so good that I feel that it deserves more than the 5 stars I’m allowed to give it.
At over 500 pages, this is not a short read, but in all honesty I could have read another 500 pages of this story. I was totally engrossed in this book and hated having to put it down to go back to the ‘real’ world.
Hunter and Selma are 2 fascinating characters among a large cast of characters, many of whom I loved and others I hated. Hunter and Selma’s story is so much more than a romance story. This story has soooo much drama. It really is edge of your seat, heart in your mouth reading as characters lives are hanging on by the thinnest of threads.
This is a book that I know I will read again and I can’t wait for more in this series.

Handle With Care (Chase Care #1) by R.L. Dunn

This isn't the first book I've read by the author. Handle with Care is the first book in the Chase Care Series. I've read a couple of the Chase Security books so I know a couple of the characters. This book is an amazing read.

Hunter, a doctor for Chase Security, is losing his mind. His wife is out of town and will be for a while. He feels that she is hiding something from him, but he isn't sure what it is. When she comes back will he be able to fix what was broken? The quote I chose for Hunter is: “Medical complaints are the most elusive to chase down. I’d rather we overdo than underdo. Keep me posted. Next.”

Selma is running from her past. She doesn't want to let Hunter know what is going on so she runs. When she gets no response from Hunter she is worried that she broke everything. What will happen when she goes back? The quote I chose for Selma is: “That was when you were created, little one.”

Highly recommended for Romantic Suspense lovers.

This fantastic book definitely had me turning page after page as quickly as I could in order to see what was going to happen next. It is filled with plenty of twists and turns to keep you fully captivated in the storyline and is so well written by this very talented author that nothing is predictable. This is the first in this particular series and if this in any indication of what is yet to come well I say bring it on!! The wonderful characters all through the book pull you further into this story and have you not so patiently waiting to know even more about them and their action filled lives. This new series is a spin off from another series by this very talented author and I believe some of the characters featured here are in those books so I will definitely be checking those out now. Having said that though, my reading experience for this book was in on way hindered by the fact I had not read the other series. I have a new author to add to my must read list and that makes me a very happy girl!!

This is book 1 in the Chase Care series. It is a romance story which is gripping and so emotional. You can feel the love and connection between Selma and Hunter come through the pages. Their love has been in the making for a very long time and with Hunter dealing with grief and Selma coming out of a volatile marriage they were going to have scars and these affect what would be a perfect relationship.
Hunter lives in constant fear of losing Selma so when she volunteers to join a group of medics in a refugee camp in Africa his fears become reality when an deadly outbreak sweeps the camp putting Selma's life in grave danger.

But it's not just Selma that Hunter could lose. Selma took the position to run away from a secret she is trying to protect Hunter from. How will he react when he finds out?
With a deadly disease, a scheme ex set out on revenge and a secret which could be a blessing or a curse can Hunter and Selma's relationship survive so they can finally get their HEA

I love that this series is a spin off from Chase Security Series. It made me want to keep reading. Dr. Hunter Montgomery is Chief Medical Officer of Chase Care. He had recently lost the love of his life and partner. So basically he is just doing his job, nothing else, no romance, just work. Selma Bryant who is also a Doctor has reappeared in Hunter's life, but not for long. She has secretly loved Hunter, but now was not the right time. As she is leaving New Orleans and heading out with Doctors Abroad to Africa. What happens next? No Spoilers, I recommend you read this series. The author has once again sucked me in. This is a medical thriller with twists and turns that will keep you reading. I love that some of the characters from Chase Security appear in this series as well. While this story has a lot of medical information, it is also easy to follow. Romance is in the air, but suspense runs this romantic thriller.

This story was a huge struggle for me. Getting into the characters and feeling for them was virtually nonexistent. I did a few but there is way too many characters (with code names and military titles) introduced to remember who is who and which name they go by. Flynn is one of the few who pulled my sympathy and worry.

I have read this authors books in the past. In fact some of these characters were in the stories I read. Some I love and others are like this one. If you are in the medical profession and military you will probably understand the lingo used in here. I am neither and was left thinking like I was at the doc office and they are talking a foreign language.

Overall this one is over my head and it struggled to hold my interest because I just did not care. The suspense part was well planned but thats the best I can say. Pick this up if you like medical and military jargon with characters galore.

This is book one of the series. It is a spin off of another series buy this author but can be completely read without having read the original series. I didn't read the original series and found that I could stay caught up with everything in the book. This book is a romantic suspense genre but I found it to have more suspense than romance. The twists and turn this books takes was everything I didn't know that I needed. It does have some romance but not as much as I have read in other romantic suspense books. I think that this is great as it will appeal to the romance lover but also the thrill seeker readers. I highly recommend reading this quick read when you are wanting to escape from the day to day. It is well written and will have you constantly turning the pages to see what happens. I am new to this author and will be completing this series along with reading the original series.

I enjoyed reading this suspenseful romance story. This is the first book in this author’s new series. I have enjoyed this author’s stories from the first one I picked up. I enjoy her writing skills as well as her attention to details that make her characters pop. This book is no different. This is a well written story where the characters bring the story to life and take me on a journey of romance and suspense. I enjoyed how the characters were connectable which made them pull me in from the first word. They have great growth and chemistry throughout the story. You don’t want to miss the twists and turns that had me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. This is a fast paced, engaging, full of action story that is hard to put down. What a great start to a new series and I look forward to reading the next book. I highly recommend this book and this author.

4 Stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Suspense, gripping, emotional roller coaster of a story. This is the first book of a new series plus this is also a new author to me.

Hunter and Selma are both doctors and totally in love....and the care they have for not only their patients but for each other really tug at my heart. Both Hunter and Selma have had trauma with past relationships and have to jump that hurdle to have love for each other. When Selma volunteers to travel to another county to help less fortunate patients at a refugee camp in another country...Hunter feels like Selma is running away. What is she running from? When a deadly outbreak of a virus is added to the mix....will Hunter be able to save Selma and her patients before it is to late?

This story had me at the edge of my seat....secrets, deadly viruses and also something more sinister and lurking behind the shadows personally against Hunter and Selma. Will they be able to figure out the puzzle to help save their patients......

Handle With Care (Chase Care Book 1) by R.L. Dunn. I loved this book and I have loved this entire series. I can't wait for the next book and beware when you start this book you wont' want to put it down. This is the story of Dr. Hunter Montgomery who has just lost his partner and has been promoted to Chief Medical Officer. When Dr. Selma Bryant walks into his hospital he is slapped in the face with the past. Selma has always loved Hunter but the timing was never right. So when she is offered to go to Doctor's Abroad at a African Refugee Camp she jumps at the chance. Is she running from Hunter and her feelings....yes but she will deal with that later. When Hunter is called to help Selma and the others at the Refugee Camp because this virus has about wiped them all out the feelings come back. Will they both survive the virus and will they try to make their relationship work? Read this great 1st book in the Chase Care Series to find out.

I have read a few books from this author and she never disappoints. I love her sorting style and she always has me hooked. This is the first book in the new series Chase Care. I was so excited to read this book that I started it right away. I could not stop until I finished it and I want more already. I can’t wait to see who she will write about next.

Hunter is then told that he and his team needs to go to Africa to help with this virus that’s killing a lot of people. He gets to Africa and he sees her , Dr. Selma Bryant. Hunter is blown away that she is here. She is the one that got away and now he might get another chance.

This is a well written story with many twists and turns. It makes you want to keep reading the next chapter that you are at the end of the book before you know it. If you like medical outbreak stories added with a touch of romance, this is the book for you.

Hunter and Selma have known each other for years and have been in different relationships until 20 years later when they can finally be with each other. However, they take their careers first.

Selma has volunteered to go overseas to help Doctors without Borders when after she arrives, an outbreak happens. Hunters and a team of doctors end up going over to Africa after her to try to help with the sick and to get their friends out of the country and safe back home. Everyone debates whether or not the outbreak was an intentional threat or not.

The author does a great job in displaying knowledge and understanding of the events in the story.

My first favorite book of 2023. A romantic suspense that will have you putting the DO NOT DISTURB sign on everything. Hunt, Selma, Flynn and the rest of the gang are involved in some deep drama and undercover adventure. I was drawn in right from the start and engaged with Hunt and Selma, they are a power couple that come with baggage, but work hard to power through it. With deadly antagonists to find and take out, the drama is real and can turn at a heartbeat. The romance is flowing. As Kieran says, it’s “the Chase flu” in the water (love the humor in the story. The characters are very relatable and easy to feel like you could know them. The plot line is thick and has a few subplots that magically all come right back together. I love the teamwork of the characters. The flow of the story is perfect. This book is fantastic and I loved it. It would get more than 5 stars if I were allowed.

I definitely found this book relatable. As a healthcare worker, you can never deal with grief the same as when you work in the field before or after quite the same as before choosing this profession. Also being from New Orleans, I found a personal sense of connection to the book even more so which is why I started reading it in the first place. It makes it that more familiar and more interesting to me to feel a strong connection. But besides the obvious connections, the storyline of these two’s story of departing onto foreign waters test their union in matters of life or death.
Another reason I loved this is because I went through something similar during coronavirus and my love life at the time but it was less theatrical than this book. But this book is a tale you’d never forget. It takes you down a rabbit hole of emotions. I absolutely enjoyed this. Great read!!!!

Dr. Hunter Montgomery and Dr. Selma Bryant have a history and now maybe a second chance. Dr. Montgomery was recently promoted at the hospital, a hospital Dr. Bryant walks into. As the two grow closer and begin to rekindle their relationship Selma volunteers for Doctors without Borders, traveling to Africa where a virus runs out of control. Hunter and other members of his medical staff must now do all they can to treat as well as save as many as they possibly can. Will his team be able to help before it's too late? Will Hunter and Selma get their happily ever after this time?

This is the first book by Dunn I have read. I truly enjoyed the writing style, the complexity of the stories, and how the characters have dimensions. I look forward to the next book in the Chase Care Series.

Handle With Care (Chase Care Book 1) by R.L. Dunn

Handle with Care is the first book in the Chase Care Series. I absolutely loved Chase Security series and I’m super excited this is a spinoff of that series. I’m a huge fan of this author and her style of writing along with her creative characters that are relatable, fun and fully developed make for one heck of a story. Who doesn’t love a hunky Dr Romance I know I sure do. Hunter is head Chief Medical Officer for Chase Care and recently lost his partner and is teamed up with Dr.Selma Bryant who is a blast from the past and secretly has loved Hunter for years. When a virus claiming live in the refugee camp surfaces will Hunter and his crew save them and Dr. Bryant in time? Can these two get their HEA? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

Holy Cow!! I wasn’t sure about this one but I took a chance and wasn’t disappointed. If you are unsure after the first chapter, keep reading. The first little bit really sets up the nonstop action and intrigue for the rest of the book. One might need a character list to keep track of all the people and nicknames but even if you lose track of who some of the peripheral characters are, focus on the main characters!! The ride is phenomenal. If deceit, love, hate, revenge, sexual tension, unrequited love, action, biological warfare, steam, money, honor, and family don’t do it for you, then don’t worry. We will just keep this secret all to ourselves. When you get to the point where you are saying, “How much more can one person take,” just know there is more. Take a chance. Jump right in!!

Handle With Care (Chase Care Book 1)

I was surprised by how much happened in this book. Life in New Orleans would be interesting enough, but then Selma heads to Africa to help out with medical care and there isn't a dull moment for her. Definitely kept my nose in the book to find out what happens.

Hunter and Selma have known each other for a long time. Started as co-workers and that grew to a very close and deep friendship and somewhere along the way it shifted again.

I really liked being able to relate age wise to both Hunter and Selma. Life is so different when you're close to 50 than what it was at 25 and I'm sure falling in love with someone is even more different.

I think this is going to be a great series to keep up with and I'm looking forward to see what happens next.

I really enjoyed the Chase Security series by this author and was excited when I saw that she had done a spin off series, this time focusing on doctors. As with her other books I found myself engaging with this story immediately. I liked that this book felt like it was part of the same world as the other series but had a different feel to it due to the different focus of the characters. And it was nice that the main basis of the story was the romance, it felt like there was so much more going on.
The characters were instantly relatable. I enjoyed their story and getting to learn about their past. The author has done an amazing job with this book and I already cannot wait to see what the rest of the series holds.

Handle with Care
By: R.L. Dunn

This is such a good and complex book. There was a lot going on, but in a very good way. It was the kind of book that you don’t want to put down because you are afraid you are going to miss something.
I love the concept of coworkers that become friends that become something well.. Not so simple to define. I thought that Selma was a wonderfully complex character, who had so many things going on it was hard to not feel sympathetic for her. Truthfully, I also loved Dr. Hunter. I thought that the way he handled the dilemma of the virus and how driven he was to solve it was an amazing twist to a plot line that I thought I had completely figured out, boy was I wrong.
I definitely enjoyed this book and I thoroughly recommend it!

Hunter and Selma are both doctors but in different military divisions. They do cross paths over twenty years until they reconnect during a possible epidemic among a group of 400,000 and she is there with Doctors Without Borders. Hunter is part of the group that comes as reinforcement aid to find the cause and help with a cure. Neither at this time are in a serious relationship so when sparks fly again, things change.
The characters are well done with great backstories, deep feelings and chemistry. Loved the storyline that had major tension, mystery, twists, secrets, revenge, betrayal, revelations, steamy moments, surprises, deadly epidemic and more.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Dr. Hunter Montgomery has recently lost the love of his life while simultaneously being promoted to Chief Medical Officer of Chase Medical. Taking this job meant moving forward with his life. One thing he did not expect was running into a blast from his past. Dr. Selma Bryant has loved Hunter for years, but the timing couldn't be worse. She has volunteered her services to an African refugee camp through Doctor's Abroad and is about to ship out. There is a virus claiming the lives of refugees and volunteers. It may be just a matter of time before she becomes ill herself. If Hunter and his team are able to save all the survivors, including Dr. Bryant, will they get their happily ever after?
