My review
Before diving into the review I would like to thank the author Emma Boxer, for generously offering me an ARC of the book “Under the blood red moon”. All thoughts & opinions are my very own, and this is an unbiased review.
Okay now let’s get into it.
Show me a book that has got you hooked from the very first sentence.
Me: Takes out the copy of “Under the blood red moon”
“When you’ve buried enough bodies, you find that each one has its own specific aroma”
Chills…..literal chills. So the story line goes when Sabine, a child who lost her parents is taken under the custody of a “guardian Angel” or is it?
Oh please, to make things easier it’s a vampire, a mysterious and handsome one at that and offers to take her in as a familiar!!
Her job? Think again what her job is….
She has now got to hunt the kind of prey only a vamp desires🧛
Hardcore training huh?
The novel starts when Sabine is all grown, so it’s like been 10 years since she was taken under the care of a vamp.
So she still has a beating heart, all hale and healthy?
Well yeah!! Serving as a familiar, she hunts down prey( humans), more likely seduce them and bring them over to be killed.
And along the journey she has developed skills, which cannot be put in a real world. Unless you want to be a top class assassin 😎
So, when they have reached of age, they are now to enter a game of trials to win her the chance of immortality!!
Ta-da
I’m totally getting here “hunger games & maze runner vibes” here
It’s a series of three sets of trials against other familiars of different vampire families. And things get super complicated, and I mean very much, when she meets up with her contestants.
A word bomb here:
There is a gorgeous lethal women Andromeda “Drea” , a badass female.
She takes badass to a whole new level , so when Sabine strikes a relationship with Drea, I’m always in crossroads, can she trust her? Can she not?
And to make things hard,
she calls her princess….
The entire relationship progression is so cute or is it?😏 but when Sabine gets betrayed…… I’m not gonna spoil the whole fun here now😌
But let’s just say that I support them 🙂
Then there is a mysterious brooding man:
What? I mean what? This guy gives serious serial killer vibes but yet comes out as a saviour? Is it possible someone can be both? And what’s happening here? I’m getting a whiplash with his emotions. Get it under control, dude. Someone smack some sense into him, well that, Sabine does. But, just but.
He has an agenda? An ulterior motive?
Makes it even more flavourful. And shines a whole new light on his character.
Won’t spoil it now, you are almost there.
And, don’t get me wrong but…
But let’s just say I support them too 🙂
And to make these trials even more complicated, there is a child thrown in this mix.
Alice, an innocent child who doesn’t even know what a vamp is …….
Boink!!! Gotcha!
Truth be told, on a personal note Alice gave off serious “Esther vibes” from the movie Orphan. 😎
And Sabine feels like she is responsible for this kid, she takes her under her wing, so that she survives these brutal trials.
Sabine needs to get through this trial, and get out of this with her humanity intact. And most importantly, her life intact.
Unlikely alliances are made, just to be tested.
Yet, there is hope.
And what happens next forms the rest of the crux of the story.
The ending….. 😩bam the ending, has got me reeling and I want more. I want to know what happens next. And I want more.
The only down part in this novel was that it ended.
And it seems we dont have to wait that long for the next instalment in this series, as it is getting released late this year. This is part of the duology. The next book is under the title “Under the blood red Dawn”
This is the first time I’ve read a queer romance/ thriller books and I’m not disappointed.
The character development is quick and progressive in the plot.
Devoured the entire book in one sitting.
Might as well add this debut novel is FREAKING GOOD.
I’m so elated to have made the choice to read this book, and can’t wait to dive into the next book as it is in my TBR.
