A woman with multiple personalities spends thirty years of her life harboring four different women with markedly distinct emotional ranges--until a fifth, more integrated personality emerges
This is something that I wouldn't usually pick up ... But I am glad that I did. My goal was to read more autobiographies and biographies this year and I guess that I am hitting that goal. I've heard about multiple personality before but this one was a really interesting read. It's about Christina, who after a traumatic event copes with it by fragmenting her mind. We go through the events in her life with different fragments of her mind - and we also learn a lot about the way mental illness was viewed and treated years ago. So over all a really interesting little gem I didn't expect to love as much as I did but I loved it.
This is a fast, gripping read. It's the very compressed memoir of a woman who developed MPD and alcoholism, and led, shall we say, a markedly inconsistent life. Explains how she finally got up the nerve to explain what was happening to her psychiatrist, giving him the opportunity to give her the help she needed. Also provides a chilling glimpse into state-of-the-art mental health practices in the early 1970s.
