I fucking ate this book up omggg😭

The entire plot of this book was so good, I was completely obsessed from the very first chapter. I loved Rowan and Jane soooooo much, they gave me life and I couldn’t get enough I literally read it in less then a day.

I was so proud of myself because I guessed the plot twist just before it happened but I was still in shock when it read it, idk what it is but plot twist in romance books is just gonna do it for me every single timeeeee.

Jane is so extremely strong I love her so much she deserves so much happiness and I loved that she was able to find that in Rowan, they truly helped each other so much. Seeing everything that Jane went through from the prologue broke my entire heart. I also loved how she stood her ground when it came to Rowan (I love a fmc who keeps the mc on his toes)

Rowan MF VALENTINO. I love him. The way he treated Jane was so adorable from how he cared for her to how he loved her and helped her heal was so heartwarming, even through he came off as this tough guy who didn’t really care about anything he was so sweet and patient with Jane. AND I have to bring up the bookstore scene OMGGG I literally died and came back to life after reading it, as if I needed more of a reason to love him 😫. After reading what he went through I just wanted to give him the biggest hug, he deserves the entire world.

(I also want to say that this book wasn’t the most well written and the dialogue was a bit childish at times BUT between the plot and the characters I just completely adored it)

Sorry, but this book was not good. The writing was bad and not very immersive. The dialogue and inner monologue were robotic and unnatural at times. I liked Jane well enough but Rowan was just weird and a little entitled. Jane has clearly suffered a heavy trauma and he talks to her like shit, treats her like a child but is so quickly possessive of her? And he has a hero complex and wants to be the one who saves her? She has mutism and he is determined to "fix" her so he taunts her about it in order to get her to talk. And don't even get me started on the nickname 'Fawn'. It was just not a well written book and I had no desire to finish it to see if it got any better.

I.. had a hard time rating this because I was so conflicted on this story. I enjoyed some parts and loved Jane!! She had a rough ROUGH moment in her life, and it happened in the Prologue, like be warned there is on page Rape.

Now what made me go meh was Rowan first meeting with Jane, and he's a douche!! Like you're a bodyguard never met this woman in your life, and that's how you talk to her?! Like I enjoy alphaholes, but to say stuff about her being mute and saying stuff that was pretty cruel didn't make me enjoy him. He grew on me at 70%, but most of the book I was like naw.

Low angst, om drama, no cheating, drama, sexy times, no virgins

Recommend-meh maybe

♡ This incredibly amazing book was my first Jaclin Marie's book, and is definitely not my last. I absolutely loved every single thing in this book (except maybe for the fact that I would have loved seeing more of the two of them) and, even though I'm not part of the mute community, I think it was pretty realistic, and I LOVE when the representation is truthful and representative. Jane was so strong and resilient. She didn't give up, even during the worst moments. And Rowan... Rowan Valentino... I LOVE him! I want to MARRY him!!! For what he did for her and for them, absolutely no one would have done it. This is why he's THE book's boyfriend. And, if Rowan wasn't already perfect, he has a nickname for Jane... He calls her "Fawn". That's it. That's all it takes for me to fall in love with a man who exists only through ink on paper.

⚠ Be sure to check the TW before reading this book. The topics aborded are not for everyone. Respect your boundaries if you think this book might trigger you. ⚠

♡ Thank you so much Jaclin for sending me an ARC of your book; it was *chef's kiss* ♡

I know I'm going to hell when I die but god, if heaven felt like the way I was feeling when I was kissing her, touching her, then I'm damn sure going to do everything in my power to make sure I go to heaven with Jane.

3.5/5⭐ - 2/5🌶️

That was a bittersweet story, focused mainly on the fmc's nightmares of the past and the gradual retention of her strength. Rowan's and Jane's relationship had so many turns and a hefty amount of banter, but in the end, it acted as their salvation.

Their relationship passed majorly through a fake-hate state that involved so much irritation and arguments. However, once the heat bloomed there wasn't turning back. It grew fast to an invincible fire, burning any obstacles in its way.

The book was advertised as a very dark romance, but as a dark romance reader, I only considered it dark toward the end. There are of course some traumatic experiences stated in the book, but those are described briefly and with a lack of detail. Perhaps, the book can be a good introduction to dark romance.

Unfortunately, individually the mcs didn't catch my attention. As a pair though, they were interesting to read. Their chemistry wasn't sizzling hot but they developed their own connection.
This was a new to me author and I enjoyed her book. One thing I should state though is the plot line had either holes, loose ends, or in some cases things mentioned were left unexplained and characters were unreasonably introduced.

-FREE ARC EXCHANGED FOR AN HONEST REVIEW-

So Rowan and Jane’s story starts off at a rough start. It’s an emotional rollercoaster throughout the first chapter. I am not going to lie and say I didn’t cry but I do. I am an emotional person I don’t know why lol.

But as the story progresses things between Rowan and Jane wake up. There little dates are adorable and how they spend time one another is so heartwarming. Seeing Rowan so OBSESSED with Jane because my heart happy.

THE FUCKING BOOKSTORE CHAPTER GUYS! HOLY SHIT! Jaclin didn’t lie when she said that we were going to like that chapter and let me tell you I DID! All time favorite chapter from this book and even she said it was her favorite chapter so that says something!

With all of her little teaser posts, my girl Jaclin made me incredibly eager to read this book, and she was kind enough to give me an ARC so I could start reading it early. And my expectations for this book was met.

This book is followed by a young woman named Jane. She underwent such a harrowing event that it rendered her mute. I adored the way Jaclin portrayed a strong woman who express herself through signing, particularly when she refused to take crap from Rowan.

Jane's father hires Rowan to serve as her bodyguard. I loved how possessive and obsessed he was of her. and the way he pushed her to find her voice.

I can’t wait for everyone to read this book. Definitely recommend. The spicy scenes are ✨ immaculate.✨ Please do read the trigger warnings before hand.

Excited to read more books from Jaclin.🫶🏻👑

☾⋆。 𖦹 °✩ make you wish you were dead by jaclin marie

wow that like all i have to say after finishing this book kind of speechless right now like i knew i was gonna love Rowan and Jane’s book after getting that little glimpse of them in Thalia’s book but actually reading their book and getting to actually know everything bc that happened and the things they had to go through don’t even get me started on the things we learn about rowan and the things that he did for Jane at the end of the book <3 new book bf alert also the how rowan got Jane to talk iconic but just everything about their relationship like they are literally the definition of opposite yet they just both fit so well together

from the way rowan treat Jane OBSESSED i don’t think i would be able to get over him but also the plot twist in this book 1000% would have never seen it coming like when we got a hint that it would have been ****** i was like are you sure i think it is the father but turns out they were both guilty in different ways i am absolutely disgusted with those two people also it got me a bit annoyed when he called Thalia messy idk way it not like he is exactly wrong but i don’t know

either way i really enjoyed Rowan and Jane’s story and i 100% recommend it it definitely on the more darker? emotional side so read the trigger warning but otherwise definitely recommend

Ngl, i found this book hard to get into at the start (but I have been in a reading slump since last year so that could be why) but I wasn’t giving up because I’ve waited so long for this book. And it did not disappoint.

I absolutely loved this book, and Jane and Rowen’s relationship (I knew I’d love them 2 together since getting a glimpse of them in Thalia’s book-but didn’t know I’d love them this much). The plot was a bit slow in places but you get that with any book, and it didn’t change how much I love this book.

I’ve followed jaclin since her wattpad days (blinded by series/the de Luca series etc.) and you can just see how much she’s improved with each book she’s released.

So immensely proud of jaclin and how far she’s come <3

LEMME TELL YOU WHEN I SAY I CRIED IN JUST THE FIRST 20 PAGES. I FCKING SOBBED. Y'all ain't ready fr

I loved the characters, their personalities, the way they were presented, it was all🤌🤌

Jane and Rowan both went through so much in such a young age at that. They didn't deserve anything that happened to them. When I read about what Rowan went through I could not hold in anymore. I felt so bad for him cause he did not deserve all that. But they both were so strong after going through such traumatic experiences🥹

ROWAN BEING 𝙊𝘽𝙎𝙀𝙎𝙎𝙀𝘿 WITH HER LIKE ODNDHBSJS ROWAN IS THE MAN. THE STANDARD. HIM BEING SO SOFT WITH HER LITERALLY MELTED MY HEART.

(also Andrew and Christian, sincerely, fuck you.)

Jane was an absolute gem!
I felt I could relate to her so much. On her trauma, personality and outlook on life.

I love this book so damn much. It was a scrumptious story of a bodyguard breaking code and failing in love with his client, with a twist. I read it all in one day, couldn't put it down. I just hate how Rowan would talk about her wanting to fuck Callen like the topic of sex wasn't uncomfortable to her. TO BE FAIR, he didn't know what happened at the gala. When she ran out of the car and called him later, she was completely unaffected by his words earlier and it made me cringe. Also, I hated how quick she opened up to sex. I wanted her to consider everything just a bit more like a victim in real life would. HOWEVER, everyone deals with their trauma differently. I know a lot of people who would seek sex more as a way to cope, and people who would completely avoid the topic in general. I just wished the book would let her be a bit more uneasy before deciding she trusted rowan. She even said it herself when she said that she learned her lesson from trusting people again.

I'M ALSO HELLA PROUD OF MYSELF THAT I KNEW WHO IT WAS THAT Y'KNOW JANE. I KNEW THE MOMENT HE WAS INTRODUCED AND THE AUTHOR MENTIONED HIS HAIR COLOR BUT NOT HIS EYES.

thank you to jaclin for an ARC of this book!!
do check CWs and TWs before diving into this book!

firstly, this book had such short chapters i was so grateful i literally breezed through this book through bus rides on the bus to school.

i loved jane, she was honestly so sweet but she had that fire in her which i really related to, she has been through something which made her mute at her own accord, but she has proven time and time again how strong she is.

rowan, he is literally amazing. we love that he is honestly so protective of her, the way he was so so loving but morally grey??? yk i ate that up. he also has a way with words, making words literally sound poetic when he was showing his true emotions.

the two of them worked so well with one another, they were practically made to complete the other.
they showed me what two people molded together are. there were so many parts where i felt as if my heart was being ripped apart into pieces and i was being stabbed half to death okay. there was this one quote that made me stupid smile, "that makes us, jane and rowan." i wanted to sob tbh.

the amount of quotes from this book that made me feel things :')

[DNF'd by 50%] I appreciate the trigger warnings the author placed early on, especially since the story starts with a traumatic event. From what I could force myself to read, it has the bodyguard trope, some mafia vibes, insta!love, and dark romance tones.

Unfortunately, by the 43% mark, I felt like I was forcing myself to finish a book I'd started to want to skim through because the writing felt off from the beginning. I told myself it was simple enough writing, we could get to the end and find out how this ends, but my suspicion of who the culprit was became too obvious, and I lost interest. Once I hit 50%, though, I couldn't keep going.

It has those mafia vibes, though I don't feel it was ever fully presented except to explain where all these families and people knew each other from (though that could have to do with where I stopped). It was apparent that the characters surrounding the story were from other books. Would I have appreciated the story more if I read those books? I don't know. I'm leaning on no, though. This story didn't draw me in. The characters didn't draw me in. I felt less lost in the story and more like my head was trying to escape it. The dialogue felt too...staged? And I could not get myself to like Rowan. Could not.

Some important notes that bear mentioning: reviews are highly subjective, including mine. My opinion is meant to give an overview of what I saw/felt when I read it. What I see might not be what you see, and what I don't like might be what you enjoy, which is fine. My advice to anyone looking into a book? Read the premise; if it interests you enough, give it a chance, and it may surprise you—or not, but at least then, you'll know.

TikTok tricked me.
I struggled so hard. I'm sorry, the writing was like a 12 year old writing fan fiction. The run on sentences, the weird way everyone talks, lack of character depth..It was just cringe and so difficult to read.
No one speaks like the people in the book. No humans that I am aware of, anyway.

MMC literally doesn't let her out of the car until she talks but later says:
"She doesn’t want to talk, so I’m not going to force her to talk. That is the one thing I will never do to Jane. I know Jane has been through a lot and her talking to me normally is something I will never risk to lose. Forcing her to talk is one of the worst things that I can do to her because so many people try to do that with her already"

Some examples of just painful sentences:
"Cause I might be going to California soon and wanted to see if you will be there at the same time I will and I wanted to see if I could room with you while I am in California."

"Jane is the reason I learned to do sign language because whether she knew it or not."

"I'm a little surprised that he is asking a lot of questions because usually in the car he won't talk at all or even when we are just sitting next to each other doing nothing he won't ask me anything even though I could have signed to him"

"
They are always sneaking off and leaving me alone, which I hate and have told her so many times, but her excuse is always the same by saying it was Alexander's fault, which sometimes it is because Alexander distracts Thalia a lot."

I really enjoyed this book! The pacing was great, and the mute representation was done well, (but this is coming from someone who is very much not mute…in fact a person who never stops talking🫠, so technically I can’t give a hard opinion on that…but whatever from a readers perspective it was done well)

Jane was a strong female lead who went through a very difficult traumatic thing (don’t wanna spoil it) that caused her to go silent with fear, her muteness was a different twist to the story and I loved seeing her grow stronger and stronger, day by day,

Her bodyguard Rowan was just yummy 😩🤚🏻 the man was ✨obsessed ✨ with her and I was here for it, there were so many little twists and moments that had me gasping 😭

There’s so much I wanna say but can’t because I don’t wanna spoil! Definitely recommend you guys read this! I read it in like 2 and a half hours! (Though I did read like half last night then woke up at 6 am to finish…but in total it was about 2 in a half-ish hours)

Really excited for Jaclin and her new upcoming release!! Thank you so much to her for providing me an arc to read! I had a blast. 💗
