Westin St. James was the one and only person I trusted in this world.
Then he left me.
And not just left. I’m talking vanished off of the face of the Earth kind of left.
But four years later, he walks into the front door of my evil father’s house. Like Nothing. Ever. Happened.
Even worse, my father informs me he’s my new bodyguard.
But I’m no longer the naive girl he loved and dumped without a word of explanation.
I’m resourceful and independent. Plus, I’ve got a mean right hook. Which I introduce him too as soon as he reintroduces himself with an infuriating smirk.
And things get even crazier after that.
Rook is a love and action packed stand-alone romance with roller coaster twists, jaw-dropping turns, and a heart-bursting HEA. Perfect for people who miss ALIAS and readers who love to boo and hiss at disappearing exes who show back up at your front door.
Wall Street Journal & USA Today Bestselling author, Nana Malone writes Sexy Feel-Good Romance and loves of all things romance and adventure.
That love started with a tattered romantic suspense she "borrowed" from her cousin. It was a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana, and Nana was a precocious thirteen. She's been in love with kick butt heroines ever since. With her overactive imagination, and channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters.
Nana Malone knows how to deliver a spicy romantic suspense. The Rook is another perfect example of that. Rogue Division's secret agent Westin Rourke has a mission to take down the enemy and protect the woman he never stopped loving. And Nissa Montgomery won't make it easy for him. The Rook was a beautiful mix of slow burn angst , heart stopping suspense and explosive chemistry wrapped in Nana Malone's sharp writing.
Westin has run away from the man who controlled his life after his parents' death and created a new identity to work with secret agency Rogue Division. But he has to go back..because that man is a crooked criminal and his next mission. But he has another reason. He has to protect the villain's daughter and his soulmate whom he left behind. Nissa herself is working hard to get away from her father's control and she won't forgive Westin so easily.
Holy second chance swoony angst goodness! Nissa and Westin became best friends and then some more when they were living in the same mansion with her father. They were lonely and hurt and found love and friendship in each other. Then Westin had to leave suddenly and Nissa doesn’t know the reason. The big secret. Right now she hate Westin. He is appointed her bodyguard and she thinks he is just another weapon of control by her father. Westin has to keep his secrets and at the same time protect her. It was a brilliantly written plot with twists and turns along with plenty of feels. It was obvious from the moment they reunited that their chemistry and emotional connection are very much alive. It is just clouded by pain and anger. Nissa is a firework. She is sassy and sweet. She fought with Westin at every step..sometimes foolishly but once she got all the facts, she was ready with fight by her side. The Rogue Division agents are like a big family and their team camaraderie is so entertaining. Westin is an alpha without a doubt. He is edgy and dangerous and like all Nana Malone heroes, carries an easy lethal confidence. There is something extremely hot about a man who can be violent and ruthless for enemies and at the same times, soft for his woman. Their banter, the enemies to lovers tension, the suspense..everything made this one an unputdownable read.
Wow! Nana has really had me in the edge of my seat with this one. I can't believe it ended in one book, was sure it was going to be a cliff hanger, but she fooled me again!!!! If you love a sexy soy story then this book is for you! With plenty of action I. & out of the bedroom with a few guns thrown in. HEA at the end!!
Another action filled, steamy novel from Nana! Expect no less! This one included so many twists and turns that I had to stop and go back several times to make sure I was following the action! Thoroughly enjoyed Westin and Nissa’s story in the Rogues series. No shrinking violet in Nissa and a badass protector in Westin. Their relationship has had powerful passion and some very strong challenges. A full length story which allows Nana to include everything you need to follow along! You’re going to want to start early and stay up late for this one!
This was another great book in the series, Rook has been an interesting character in the previous books so I loved reading his story and he and Nissa were absolutely perfect. As always I really enjoyed how Nana gave us that mixture of romance, drama and suspense I love in her books, Nissa and Westin were very captivating so I couldn’t put down their story.
Nissa had a difficult childhood and after her “father” took her in she was thrown into a world of power and danger. She and Westin were friends for years and despite of their feelings they knew they couldn’t be more thanks to Nissa’s father. At sixteen she spent a lot of time with Westin but after a night together she never saw him again.
Westin lost his parents very young and being with his godfather also had some repercussions in his life. He had to work for him until 18, where he knew he couldn’t do bad things for his godfather. After that, he left and never looked back, that’s when he started working with the rogues and stayed out of his godfather’s radar.
Now 4 years later Rook’s assigned to a mission where he has to face both his godfather and Nissa again. At first Nissa didn’t want to see Westin, but they bickered a lot and little by little Nissa started admitting she never stopped loving him. I loved their banter and how despite everything Westin was determined to protect her and assure her he wasn’t leaving her like before. Westin had a lot to prove but he was always there for Nissa and it was obvious the chemistry between them was always there. Their steamy scenes were really hot and I loved how after some time they couldn’t keep their hands off each other.
Westin and Nissa faced a lot of things but I loved how at the end they both found closure with their past and were able to move forward together. Their interactions with the side characters were nice to read, I always love reading about the previous couples and after that epilogue I can’t wait to read Gabe and Tabitha’s story next.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
THE ROOK is sure to capture your interest and then your heart with its rollercoaster emotions and action. Westin has returned to re-fill his role as bodyguard, but Nissa isn’t having any of it. There’s a lot of trust that needs to be rebuilt and getting there won’t be easy, but reading about it is sure to keep you thoroughly engaged. In addition, the added intrigue and action surrounding the reason Nissa needs a bodyguard will definitely keep you turning pages. Combined, this makes for a story you will find impossible to put down. Westin and Nissa’s tale is filled with plenty of intense feelings, passion, and exciting suspense from start to finish. And, boy, wait until the end. If that doesn't capture your attention and leave you anxiously waiting for what’s to come next for the Rogues, nothing will. 😲😉
All I can say is this book was hot and had so many twists and turns in it that I could not put it down. Westin and Nissa are fire together and being thrown back together after years makes it so much more fun to read. Westing just disappeared on Nissa and when he came back she was having none of it. Her father would not let her deny Westin as her bodyguard though. Being thrown back together like that just makes is such a fun read.
Nissa is an awesome character. She caught Westin off guard quite a few times, the first, was so totally AWESOME! A very emotional read, so much baggage between these two main characters. The author brings you right along with them the way the words flow. Loads of action and power struggles between two factions and people are caught in the middle. Nail biting right up to the last page. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
We kicked off the third book in the series with Westin aka Rook’s story. He appears in the previous books, but we get more of his backstory. Of course, a major part of Westin’s story is his childhood love and love interest Nissa Montgomery. It’s been several years since our main couple last saw each other and let’s just say it wasn’t under the best situation. Flash forward to the present and Westin is hired by Nissa’s father to be her bodyguard. However, there is much more to the story. I won’t post any spoilers, but I will this story covered a lot of ground. I will say I had my share of theories especially when it came to Nissa’s father Julian. He is on my growing list of the worst parents. Westin and Nissa worked through having to learn the new versions of themselves respectfully. There were also plenty of elements that the author is known for. Overall, I am all really enjoyed this story. I am looking forward to The Spy.
A topsy-turvy that strikes out at the senses and aims straight for the heart. Malone explores the senses from every angle with intriguing results. The Rook dares to be explosive. From breathtaking to heartaching, this is romance that sets the soul ablaze.
I love these Gentlemen Rouges! While this can totally be read as a stand-alone, the first two are really good and you should check them out. This is Westin's story, and I'd have been disappointed if he picked out a woman and it was true love and smooth sailing. Nissa is not supposed to be anywhere near him, he thought she'd be safer that way, so why was he answering a request from her father? Its kind of a wild ride from here, so hold on to your hats! All Nissa ever wanted was to get away from her Dad and his influence and find her sister. She's got a wild ride getting to her happiness too but hold on tight. Those who are looking for this author's signature spice, these two have friction and tension and fire to spare. Great book!
The man who broke Nissa's heart just walked back into her life after all these years, and she's not having it. Only, she has to, because her father has just made Westin her new bodyguard. Will close proximity have her body (and heart) remembering why she fell so hard for him before? Or will she hold strong and keep him from sneaking past her defenses?
Westin (Rook) did what he did to protect Nissa. He didn't think he'd see her again after he left, but his boss has ordered him back. If he wants to keep her safe, his newest mission means he'll be stuck in very close proximity to the only one he's ever loved. He doesn't think she'll ever forgive him, but he wants her back. He wants her heart, he wants life with her. If only he could tell her all his truths.
Damn, Rook and Nissa had me on the edge of my seat! Suspense, action, tension and intense chemistry made for another great romantic suspense from Nana. I love how sassy and strong Nissa is and how swoony and protective Westin is once he makes up his mind he's going to claim his one and only love. The Gentlemen Rogues are getting better with each story as each of these badass agents falls in love, now I really can't wait for Gabe and Tabatha's story, The Spy.
What can I say about The Rook except that YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!! Holy Smokes did I love this one. The Rook is a great addition to the Gentleman Rogues series. Folks, there are no cliffhangers, just pure suspense, action, steaminess and chemistry straight off the charts. I did not want this one to end. What a ride!
The Rook is Westin "Rook" St. James' story and just how he came to be The Rook. After losing his parents Westin went to live with his godfather, Nissa Montgomery's dad, but life was not what Westin envisioned. However, during this time, Westin and Nissa Montgomery, our gorgeous heroine, became best friends, actually, they became more than just friends, and then one day, approximately 4 years ago, Westin just disappeared without a trace. Now he has returned and has been placed once again as Nissa's bodyguard thanks to her father's dangerous business associations. However, unbeknownst to both Nissa and her dad, Westin has not returned on his own accord, but he has returned on assignment from his boss, Gabe of The Gentlemen Rogues, on a covert assignment. Once Nissa and Westin see each other again all of those unresolved feelings that have been lying dormant for the past 4 years resurface, and let me tell you that is when the book truly takes off. Oh boya, do these two have a whole lot of unresolved issues to deal with, and it makes for some seriously hot and angry scenes in this one, and I was there for all of it. The dialogue between Westin and Nissa, as well as the rest of the Gentlemen Rogues, is super witty and downright delicious. I honestly could not get enough of Westin and Nissa.
Between the suspense, action and chemistry between Nissa and Westin I was on the edge of my seat reading this one. All I can say is Well Done, Nana Malone, and bring on Gabe's story! I am so ready for that one.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🔥.5 Tropes/content: MW, childhood friends to lovers to strangers to lovers, bodyguard/client, forced proximity, roommates, spies, second chances Series: Gentlemen Rogues #3
⚠️Check triggers⚠️
Four years ago, Westin St. James was forced to walk away from his life to protect the people he loved most in the world. When he left, he broke Nissa Montgomery's trust and her heart. He never thought he'd see her again, but when intel comes in about Nissa's father, he's forced back into his old life and takes up the role as her bodyguard. Nissa is angry with Westin and not interested in hearing about why he left. When he moves in with her, Nissa's old feelings come rushing back and she has to decide if she can trust Westin again.
I've been enjoying the Gentlemen Rogues series and the development of the overarching plot. My favorite thing about this series is how obsessed the men are with their women. This is a good book, but not my favorite in the series. I liked Nissa and Westin, but I didn't buy into their connection. I wish we would've gotten more angst from their past into the present. I also found the storyline predictable and it felt repetitive at times.
I'm SO excited for Tabatha and Gabe's story. I've been waiting for their story from the beginning. The epilogue has me so intrigued about their story, and I could feel the tension and angst between them.
Thank you to Nana Malone and Valentine PR for the early copy in exchange for an honest review!
The Rook by Nana Malone is the fourth book in the Gentleman Rogues series. It is the story of the Westin St. James (aka Rook) and Nissa Montgomery. They have known each other since they were children, but suddenly one day Westin left and disappeared from Nissa's life. Now by the turns of fate Westin returns, at the request of her father, to be her bodyguard, what makes it even more difficult is that those feelings that they thought had disappeared are there more alive than before. This story is full of second chances, action, suspense, romance and love. I love these stories where you stay on the edge of your seat and are jumping to conclusions all the time, I enjoyed it from start to finish and I know you will too. Super Super Recommended *Thanks to Nana Malone and Valentine PR & Literary Management for my ARC. I voluntarily leave my honest review*
Tropes: Contemporary Romance, romantic suspense, new adult, thriller, band of brothers, billionaire, bodyguard, close proximity, enemies-to-lovers, roommates to lovers, second chance, heroine in danger
Once upon a time, the only person Nissa Montgomery trusted was Westin St. James but then he disappeared off the face of the earth. He had to get away from her controlling father. He went on to become a secret agent for Rogue Division. When he walks back through her father's door four years later, she's shocked to learn he's her new bodyguard. If he thinks she's going to welcome him with open arms or that she's the same girl he left behind, he's sadly mistaken. She's resourceful, independent and working hard to get out from under her despicable father's control. Nissa eagerly displayed that with a strong right hook into Westin's smug face. He's returned to take down her father but also to be reunited with the only girl he ever loved. Follow along as Westin and Nissa's story becomes action-packed with exciting twists and turns leading to a hard earned HEA.
Nana Malone delivered again. She always constructs a plot that has my eyes glued to the pages from start to finish and this was no different. It was well developed with page-turning content, edge of my seat suspense and delicious sexual tension. It was like watching one of my favorite action movies. I love second chances especially where danger is at the door. I gladly and highly recommend this read. This is my honest opinion, freely given.
Rook is a love and action packed stand-alone romance with roller coaster twists, jaw-dropping turns, and a heart-bursting HEA. Perfect for people who miss ALIAS and readers who love to boo and hiss at disappearing exes who show back up at your front door.
By hook or by crook, The Rookie aka Westin Rourke is back in Nissa Montgomery’s life and she’s not happy about it at all. In the four years he’s been gone, she’s been doing all she can to prepare for her own escape from their corrupt and controlling guardian, and she’s damned if her new bodyguard, recaptured by her father, is going to get in the way. After a warning shot across the bow, she brings him to his knees in front of her with a swift knee to his groin.
Pure. Gold.
With the release of THE ROOK, Gentlemen Rogues book 4, Author Nana Malone continues her brilliant game of spies type series of books. Each has been brilliant and in true Ms Malone style, our gentlemen are growly alphas, our heroines are kick-arse as all hell, the humour is on point, and the chemistry is on fire.
Westin and Nissa have history, and yep, she puts the hates on him pretty fiercely much to my amusement and I loved the unsolicited advice dished out to Westin from his male team members, apparently all relationship experts now that they’ve met their significant others.
While the secrets and miscommunication between them got a tiny bit tedious; she didn’t trust him and he thought she was too delicate a flower to bring into his confidence, you know, protect the woman from danger and all that, THE ROOK was still set at Ms Malone’s usual fast paced action. I sat like a coiled spring while reading and it all went by so fast. I always get through her books in one sitting, whether I intend to or not.
As always, THE ROOK is another 5-High-Action-Read ✨♟️*´¨
This is book four in The Rogues series and it is Westin and Nissa’s story and omg it is definitely a must read. I absolutely love this series and it just gets better and better with each book written. Westin and Nissa have history that ended with Westin disappearing as if he was never there breaking Nissa’s trust and now he as returned as if nothing as happened and she is told that he is going to be her bodyguard but Nissa is not the same girl that she used to be so he better get ready for what she is now able to dish out. The twists and turns keep coming and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what was going to happen next as it was so addictive. The chemistry between Westin and Nissa was as strong and intense as ever and the action, suspense, danger, strong characters and drama had you on the edge of your seat and just added to this amazing story that had me totally hooked and I can’t wait to read the next book in this amazing series and definitely recommend you read this book and you will not be disappointed.
4.5⭐ The Gentlemen Rogues just keeps getting better! This time around we have Rook and it's a second chance love story suspense with the girl who intrigued him when they were just kids, Nissa. He left her like a thief in the night but now he has to return to make sure her careless father and the dangerous Igno don't harm a hair on her head.
His return rattles both he and Nissa. She wants to hate him and get rid of him, but they both really want to give in to their most baser instincts. I say, go with the latter! Even when they're fighting, their chemistry is totally insane.
"We can have the kind of relationship where I’m your bodyguard , and nothing else. Maybe your mate. Or you can keep playing with fire. And if you do, you and I are going to take a little jump down memory lane. This time, I will be there when you wake up, and I will make sure every single inch of you is sore enough that you can’t walk in the morning. There isn’t an inch of your skin that I will not lick, and kiss, and f**k. I just wanted to be very, very clear so that you know what’s going on now.” Holy. F**king. Shit.
Nana Malone does it again. This series just gets better and better with each book. Westin Rourke (Rogue's call sign - Rook) is forced to go undercover back to the place he ran away from. Readers find out the Westin Rourke is not his real name and he has step back into the life he left to protect the only girl he has ever loved, Nissa Montgomery. Nissa has grown into a woman that knows how to take care of herself after Westin left without a trace. Now he is back to protect Nissa and get Antonio Igno off the streets for good. All with the help of the rest of the Rogue’s family. All of your favorite characters make an appearance and readers get an update on their lives.
This book keeps it interesting. Westin and Nissa have history so the constant sexual tension will have readers on edge. Will either one give into temptation? Will Nissa forgive Westin once she finds out why he is really back and what he was doing while away? Guess what?!?!? We have some surprise guests. Interpol is in the picture and trying to take out Nissa's father and Westin's godfather, Julian Montgomery. The story doesn't end there. The twists and turns are unexpected and will keep readers wanting more. I can wait to get the full story on Gabe. I am definitely here for all things Rogues.
The Rook captured my attention with the chemistry between this couple. We go back and forth from past to present to find out how their story began and how they reconnect. I kept turning each page as I fell in love with Nissa and Weston. I loved Nissa’s strong, confident and determination despite being the daughter of a criminal who will never let her out of his hold. He even brings in the boy that would do anything to protect her. Westin has finally found a life away from Julian Montgomery, but now has been ordered to protect the girl he left behind. Westin is more protective and fierce when it comes to Nissa and will do whatever it takes to keep her safe.
This story kept me on the edge of my seat as I knew there was something coming with each page. In true Nana Malone fashion, The Rook was outstanding. The suspense, the anticipation, the passion, it is all included along with the familiar characters from other stories. But don’t worry, it can be read as a standalone.
"Nissa, I'm going to need you to stop looking at me like that." "Like what?" "Like you want to find out if we’re still explosive together."
Westin St. James (also known as Rook) disappeared when he meant the most to Nissa. He just left her. Without an explanation, without goodbye. And 4 years later, she sorted out her life (kind of). But she is in danger and her father gets her a new bodyguard. Yes, the guy she hates, her first love, is her new bodyguard. With so many secrets, Westin's number one priority, however, is not the secret mission, but keeping Nissa safe.
I really enjoyed this one. Second chance romance with many twists and turns that always make you want to read more to see what happens next. I enjoyed the story and the characters- you could really see the hate Nissa had towards Westin but if you read between the lines, you could also see the love. All through the book the chemistry between them was obvious and I’m happy they found theirs happy ever after. Although this book is part of the series, it can be read as a standalone. I enjoyed reading this series but tbh I can’t wait for the next book - Gabe’s - “The Spy”. I have a feeling it’ll be my fave and I’m so excited!! The Rook is out on February 21st!
The Rook is my first introduction to The Gentleman Rogues Series. And what a fabulous introduction it is!
As I was hooked from the moment Westin reappeared in Nissa's life. Desperate to reclaim what's rightfully his and I don't just mean Nissa!
But to do this he has to play a very dangerous game with Nissa's father Julian. Whilst also lying to Nissa about why he has returned after a four-year absence. Yet, he also needs to get Nissa onside. As The Rogues aren't the only agency circling. And Nissa is more at risk than she could possibly imagine.
However, with so many lies between Nissa and Westin and Julian meddling at every turn. How is Westin ever going to gain her trust?
And with flashbacks, heat, action, lies, betrayal and great characters. The Rook was a brilliant read. That honestly had me hooked and if I'd had the time I could've easily read this story in one sitting. And I'm definitely going to read the three books I've missed out on.
I would also happily recommend The Rook to others.
I was kindly provided with an ARC via Valentine PR in exchange for an honest review
In my opinion Nana Malone did it again. She gave me page turning suspense, romance, humor and steam. The Rook is my favorite so far in the Gentlemen Rogues Series. You have Nissa the daughter of a criminal. She is strong, independent and very determined. She is so use to doing things on her own, she refuses to ask for help. She has mixed feelings about Westin and refuses to confide in him. Rook/Westin is smart, protective and secretive. I can feel the tension between Nissa and Westin. Nana Malone gave me some humor between Westin, Lock and Saint. I laughed at the crap that Saint and Lock gave Westin about Nissa. I can always count on Nana Malone bringing previous characters from other series into the mix. Overall I loved this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader's copy.
This book is part of the Gentlemen Rogues Series, a Romantic Suspense. Nissa and Westin's second chance to love is fast-paced, passionate, suspenseful, and entertaining, filled with mystery, secrets, and twists and turns. Nissa is beautiful, strong, and smart. Westin, her bodyguard, is very handsome, and protective. I liked their push and pull relationship, and banter. They are perfect together. The supporting characters are great, and they have an important part in the story. I loved to see again the characters from the first books in the series. The Gentlemen Rogues are handsome. The world building is captivating. I loved this entertaining story. This series is amazing. Looking forward to more in the series.
Westin had escaped from his evil godfather years ago and now he is a member of the Gentleman Rogues. Now his bosses want him to go back to his godfather as an undercover agent. This puts Westin back in contact with Nissa, Montgomery's daughter. She hasn't forgiven him for vanishing four years ago and is not impressed with Westin being her bodyguard. Are they going to be able to get back together and still put catch the criminals?
This book is hard to put down. I loved the main characters.
I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
As I am totally invested in this series I was super excited to read Westin's book. As expected from Nana there was drama, a heartwarming spicy romance along with nerve wrecking thrill and suspense.
Getting to know Westin after knowing him from the previous book was a delight. It was too easy to fall in love with both Westin and Nissa. She was fierce and the way she stood for herself made me love her more. I was swooning over Westin, the way he was with Nissa melted my heart.
I loved the chemistry and banter between Westin and Nissa. When I got to know about there past I was wishing even more for them to get together. The chemistry between them was off the charts. Now I cannot wait for Gabe's book.
Thanks to Nana and Valentine Promotion's for the advanced copy.
