4.5⭐️ I thoroughly enjoyed this! It has the perfect amount of smut and plot.
Reena is a force of nature so I loved watching her thrive in her position. I would definitely not mess with her! Archer is not what I was expecting and I loved it.

Reena may be overlord of all the packs but even she is at the mercy of the wacky rules enforced by the Elders. So she has to choose a bedmate for the night from all the eligible males. The one she picks - he has all kinds of secrets.
Archer is the token human who lives within his step-fathers pack. His young brother is the only suitable male to go to the Overlords ball. But he's not letting his baby brother get chewed up by some old hag - so he puts his military skills to use.
But Archer's blood is hiding all kinds of secrets. Secrets that the Elders won't like, that others may try to use for their own benefit and that might just lead to Archer being kidnapped!
Great, short read. Hot and smexy times and there are some very funny scenes involving Archer and Reena's bestie. Perfect for a lunchtime/pre bedtime read

Reena is a strong alpha. As Mistress of the City she has certain expectations to meet. She is expected to choose a male for one night in the hopes of eventually producing a child.
Archer takes the step to pass as a wolf to prevent his 16 year old brother from being sent for the choosing. He isn’t interested in werewolf politics. Little did he know getting himself infected would not only make him a strong alpha but it awakened the Hellhound buried in his DNA. He isn’t interested in politics but he is interested in making Reena his. He will submit to her out amount the others but she will submit to him in the bedroom.

What a delicious read! The parameters have shifted in that the woman is the one with all the power and the man is the novice. So to speak.
Archer is man enough to submit to Reena, Mistress of the City, when in public. Behind doors is another story, and they both like it that way. The dynamic between these two is smoking hot, but also very caring and romantic.
This is a re-read for me, and I enjoyed it just as much this time. An interesting look at how a woman rules as opposed to a man. Not much, as Reena is forced to use brute strength at times. But it wears on her and Archer is a balm she didn't know she needed. Fabulous to escape reality for a few hours.

I enjoyed this story. It was interesting and pulled me in from beginning to end. It is made up of four parts and story flowed smoothly from one to the other and worked well. The story does move quickly and is a little on the shorter side but we still got plenty of action and relationship build. I loved watching Archer and Reena come together and build something. The twist with Archer was great and I loved how it was done. This was another hot and entertaining read in this series. It is the 6th book but it can be read as a standalone. This was really the first time meeting both of these characters.

Absolutely a must read! This is perhaps one of the best books written with a female alpha wolf and her mate! I must admit, I was a little skeptical reading a female alpha wolf story but Mina Carter did it beautifully…she took all the characteristics of an alpha, pressed it into a female heroine and produced this consuming read. The romance steams up the pages that you will have to wipe the fog off your glasses. Plot was solid. I am hoping for more hellhounds in future publications. The Shadow Cities world expands with a new city and a female Master of the City. I do love a woman in charge. Reena seems to be a bit of a fluke, a somewhat petite full figured ware who had a hard time in life so instead of taking more she took over. Now she has to follow the men’s tradition of picking a sleeping partner on the night of the Midwinter Choosing. Enter Archer. A big bad soldier and human. The meet cute is sexy sweet. The rest of this tantalizing suspenseful short is the reason I love to read a good paranormal romance.

Reena was unique among her kind and fate had in store for her a special match because a Lycan wouldn't do. Archer had his secrets well kept! I liked the mystery that surrounded him and was keeping me curious and eager to know. Petite and curvy, but imposing and aggressive, Reena sure knew how to keep her kind under control. Spectacular how Reena and Archer knew how to integrate and correspond to each other. I loved their strong, domineering but fair, action-driven, and fully passionate characters and this book had it all.

This book tells Reena's story she's the female Master of the City, it makes a change to see a woman in charge although I admit I was a little sceptical at the thought of a female alpha wolf story but it works. Being the Alpha she's expected to follow the male tradition of picking a partner on the night of the Midwinter Choosing. That's where Archer comes in, he's a soldier, he's also sexy and built and only pretending to be a wolf!

A fast read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I love shifters and this story is full of them. Archer is a very protective man and when he had a chance to protect a love one he stepped right in. But what would happen is a surprise to him and everyone. The story has an instant love/lust feel but there is romance and plenty of hotness. As Archer may take commands from those higher than him but in the bedroom he is all alpha and in charge.

This is another great book by an excellent author. This story starts with an older brother deciding to save his brother from a potentially sexual encounter that is well beyond his tender years, but it sets off changes that nobody could have foreseen. With shifters and erotic content and secrets reviled this is a great read if that is what you are looking for.

Archer is very protective of his teenage brother so he serves himself up as his pack's offering for the choosing but everything he thought he knew flies out the window when his world turns sideways.
Fast paced and full of deception with undeniable magnetic heat between city alpha, Reena and her chosen.

I had read these books before within another grouping of "Masters of the City". It had been long enogh that while parts seemed familiar, others were a complete surprise. As always very well written and entertaining. Can't go wrong with a Mina Carter book.

A pleasant short read.
Liked that Archer was something more and that Reena was such a strong character.
I would have liked this expanded, especially with more about the other hellhounds.

This book is hot from the beginning and just gets hotter throughout. I was immediately engaged and did not want to put it down. Archer and Reena are fantastic together and I need more now. You are on the edge of your seat waiting to find out what exactly Archer is and how it manifests in him. You are immediately sympathetic to Reena and wonder what happened in the past. I cannot wait for more set in this world.

Deliciously violent and sexy
it was everything I expect from a Mina Carter book! The Lycan Mistress was strong-willed, strong physically, and proven that she can stand up for herself. She didn't NEED a man to complete her. Archer was a big, strong, and brave dude. He was a protector. They were electric together right from the beginning and the story goes from hot to hotter in no time, but the drama of the story is still building despite the fireworks they make together. This one is impossible to put down, there are helpful section separations that make it easy to give you an out between segments in case you have a pesky job commitment that requires sleep before you go do it, lol.
