“Ignore the drama queen. Carter’s just throwing another hissy fit.”
Asher Bartholomew Yates comes from one of the first families of Virginia, and has just made partner in the family law firm. He went to the right schools, belongs to the right clubs, and like his peers, is happily married. Most of the time. The love of his life is a handful on the best of days, but Carter’s unwavering devotion and unpredictable antics ensures he will always have his heart.
Carter Camden Yates is the most successful interior designer in Richmond, and he’s married to an up-and-coming lawyer who looks perfect on his arm. His talents are as colorful as his personality, and he’s the star of any room he enters. He loves his husband Asher more than life itself, and hasn’t once regretted getting married.
Out of the blue, a legal mixup jeopardizes everything. After three years of ups and downs, our two husbands discover they’re not legally wed. Will this bombshell tear them apart, or will true love win once and for all?
Suddenly Single is the third book in the Southern Discomfort series. It is a gay romantic comedy filled with sweet tea and sour words, served alongside men discovering their deepest desires. Suddenly Single has it all; A couple on the rocks, a second chance at happiness, and a love that refuses to die. So relax on your porch swing with a mint julep and a slice of pecan pie, and enjoy the journey to true love.
Ian writes LGBTQ fiction, mainly romance. Growing up, he could never find many books portraying guys like him, so now he's helping to fill the shelves with gay-friendly tales. He tends to write more romance, because he loves nothing more than a happily ever after.
Asher Bartholomew Yates is a lawyer, a new partner in the family’s law firm. He is one of the elite and is married to Carter Camden Yates. Carter is a talented interior designer. Although Carter will drive most people crazy within the first moment you meet him (read about their ski trip carefully), he is crazy in love with Asher and that seems to be enough for the two of them.
Are they ready for a major road bump in their marriage? Married for three years, it turns out that the marriage is null-and-void. Carter was handed a letter to inform him that the woman who performed their wedding ceremony on top of the mountain hadn’t renewed her license to officiate weddings by the deadline set by state law. So their marriage is invalid. Carter immediately jumps to a doom-and-gloom response and told his mother that since Asher had told him he wished he’d never married Carter, his wish just came true and he no longer had to be married to him! Will this allow time for second thoughts of a fresh start with someone else? Or is their love strong enough to last forever as they had intended?
I have to admit, Carter would drive me insane. Those who nitpick every little thing get annoying quickly. But different personalities provide different quirks that can delight someone else or make them run screaming from the room. That’s why we have choices and a ton of variety to choose from. You may not get the perfect mate, but chances are s/he will be perfect for you if you put in a little work. Will Asher and Carter simply re-marry? Or will Carter ever calm down long enough for Asher to convince him he just has to say “yes” again?
4,5 * What happens when you marry the love of your life after being together 'for a while' and you find out it is not legal especially after you had words and said in the heat of the moment that you would not marry again?
Carter is losing his confidence in his relationship with Asher and they have to grab their second chance. I liked all the snarkiness and the romcom vibe with two seemibgly opposing men, who can not be without the other eventough they class and love as hard. The naughty 'older southern ladies' with their opinions and ideas spread throughout the story give it an extra fun layer. I have read the other two books in the Southern Discomfort series. I however do not feel that that is a must.

Take a pause. Asher and Carter are deeply in love. They have different temperaments which on paper should not work, but in real life, they compliment each other. They had a good marriage until a legal glitch revealed they aren't married. This snafu gives Asher and Carter and opportunity to sit back and take a strong look fffffat who they are vs who they want to be; where they are vs where they want to be; identify if there are any lingering questions and complications. Do they take the time to ask the right questions? Is the love ever in question? Are they still willing to do the work? Is this a get out of jail free card? Interesting characters. Time to grow to next level? Nicely done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ian O Lewis is a new MM author for me and i was delighted with this amazing story about two men who married only to find out three years later that the celebrant who had officiated their wedding hadn't renewed her license therefore they weren't legally married. The resulting emotional upheaval sent them both on an emotional journey that looked as though they wouldn't find each other again. The story was really well written and sent me on the emotional journey with them. I giggled over their families' antics. I fell in love with Florida the maid and felt both the pain and ecstasy as they journeyed their way through all the pain, anger and uncertainty. This is an author I highly recommend.
