What do you think?
A Beara Volunteer
A rebellious youth in West Cork defies the wishes of his parents by joining the Irish Volunteers on the heels of the 1916 Easter Rising. Will he ever return home safely? Will his youthful idealism contribute to Ireland’s ongoing quest for independence? His journey spans over a decade while family, friends, and even the local priests are collectively concerned for his future.
This story is loosely based on the life of the author’s uncle, Tim O’Sullivan, who served in the Volunteers. Much of the rich historical material is culled from multiple sources including firsthand eyewitness accounts from military archives and other prominent figures in the Irish republican movement.
