Soren Derlens has just learned that someone kidnapped his brother Robert and that his sister Carol may have been behind the whole thing. As if that wasnt enough to deal with, the Minister of Magic is still around and is angry that Soren refuses to see the man as anything other than an enemy. Soren knew he would have to deal with both matters eventually. Currently he was bonded to two individuals who are every bit the bully Cedar Thorn was. All of his nemies are certain of their power, what they should be certain of, was what the consequences would be for challenging a Wizard Born.
I know a bunch of you have been asking exactly you the heck I am. First off, my name is Whiskey Flowers, I was active duty army and now I am a proud member of the New Mexico National Guard. In my day job, I am a corrections officer, I watch the best and brightest Albuquerque has to offer and make little money doing it. I am originally from Oakland, California, home of dumbasses and knuckleheads everywhere where I attempted to become their leader until the army put me on a different path. As many of you have pointed out, I never got my high school diploma, I am a GED student but I make it look good. If any of you are ever in New Mexico and want a drinking partner, I got you.
OMG! That is horrible! I was going to say that I could do without him. Knowing he is real makes me sad. And I am sure the author just wrote him the way he was irl. So sad. I like that once he was married, he manned up and also was still the same disgusting human that he always was. This book felt like it was just about getting married. A few things. I liked Sorens decision when given the chance to go after the men who killed his mother. I was hoping when he went to that school he would run into people he or his parents knew when he was young. I feel like his sister should not have been so easily forgiven for betraying his brother. And most importantly, Soren needs to look out for himself. He keep making powerful tools and not making any defense against them before he sells them!! Hello!!! Master stones!! Also, he really should figure out a spell against the stun spell. Now, about a villain. The minister of magic is kinda getting demoted as the main villain. It makes sense. And yes, that Tabitha grandma seems like a good one. She has already done horrible things and she is strong. She can make some serious trouble. Another possible villain can be someone who masterminded the previous revolution. Maybe someone who has been running things from the shadows. That smooth talking smart senator could be one. Someone who is behind the scenes, but I can see what they have been responsible for since book 1.
So I really look forward to new releases by you. And you’re right I think so far wizard born is one of my favorite of your series. So, in addition to your books I really love your author comments at the end as it gives us a small glimpse into your life. As with this book, when I read it just before bed I end up writing reviews in my head before I fall asleep. So, now I’m awake and here it is.
Regarding the question you asked at the end of your book, who should be the best next BIG BAD, the answer is neither of the ones that have already been introduced. You’ve already foreshadowed that there’s somebody in the background that is pulling all the strings. So who is it? In real life it’s often shocking that it is someone that is within the power structure that brings everything down. Great civilizations rot from within. Is it a Wizard that is not on the list? someone who is greater power than Soren, or was greater power before Soren started to take on extra bonds? With each bond he has grown in Power so maybe by the time big bag shows up Soren will actually be more powerful than big bad. Anyway that’s what I was wondering. Thank you as always for taking the time to put your stories on paper, but maybe next time a little less of the locker room talk so that it is easier for the girls to read as this was definitely a boy’s book thank you again.
Soren’s story is interesting and one of whiskey’s better characters Alonn with John & Jonathan Thunder and for me Kaden/Terrik, Tanner is good but I like the others better. The book is an easy quick read. As far as Soren goes the book continues his story with the same antagonist but brings in a couple possibilities for more sinister antagonist’s. Tabitha would make a good antagonist who while wanting change is willing to do horrific actions to accomplish. Rel is could move to while being and insensitive jerk is still patriotic and could further Soren’s education and abilities. I would also expect a slight plot twist with a third country/group after Soren.
I was enjoying the story, but it got bogged down with dozens and dozens of pages of guys and girls harping on about how many people they were having sex with, had sex with, or were going to have sex with. I read the first book and thought maybe the writer would mature, but that was not the case. The editing, or lack of it, was another big red flag. I really tried to get through book number 2 but just gave up when it was almost a hundred pages of stupid people talking about "laying down" the other stupid people. This author needs to go back and resolve whatever the hell has him/ her so wrapped up in this nonsense. This could be a great story. The plot is there, but you have to have a backhoe and a crew to dig down to it through all the crap.
I generally really love Whiskeys novels. Really great MC's, clear thinking, never forgets an insult. In comparison, Soren is just...stupid. He knows who had a hand in killing his parents, in a most brutal fashion but unlike John thunder who vaporized his father's killer, all Soren does is posture around the man and anyone else who was responsible. It defies logic. I'd score this with less stars but I did read this hoping to find a little backbone in Soren but sadly it is not to be. I doubt I'll read a 3rd book if it comes out
I loved the first part. It had action, self development, a bit of sex (but in the nice way), a bit of slice of life.
This book could be just condensed to a chapter. It moved to a sort of "school life" theme, retracting from the previous story, moved into smut area, with several pages devoted on how big someone was and how many ways he laid someone. No story development.
I would suggest to skip this book and go directly to the next. Won't miss anything serious...
Soron is the most powerful wizard in the nation. He distinguishes himself in training and battle. He redesigns how some magic works and trains his body. His bonded casters are bigger and better looking than him, but try to get him to participate in seducing girls. Government officials try to get him to marry a wizard girl, but he declines since the minister involved was part of the group that executed his parents. I like the action, humor, and intrigue. I look forward to book three.
I loved Soren’s story …almost as much as John Thunder
Another great book Whiskey. I love the character and his progression. I am hoping in the future he finds the missing information on how wizards were more powerful in the past and exacts his revenge on the minister and the Senators that were responsible for torturing and killing his parents. They have become monster’s and appear worse than the old system.
I like the way Soren holds his ground and is willing to work for what he wants. I think RW should be removed from office and Mr or Mrs D replace him which would open new avenues for the story as RW goes on a rampage. Can Soren can the affinities of combatants during combat, that would make him even stronger on the battlefield which I assume he will return to at some point. Really enjoyed this series can’t wait for the third installment.
I found this book pretty uncomfortable. If a woman forces herself on a man it’s still rape and I didn’t appreciate the way it was played for laughs. And probably 2/3 of the book is people going on about penises and how they’re gonna ‘blow out those walls’ or whatever. Don’t know why it went in such a different direction from the first book, which I actually really liked. I wouldn’t bother with this one. There are plenty of better ones by the same author.
Ok, Siren is a great MC. Not threatening but tough. Good story arc. Pretty great educational and training timeline. Needed a little more action, but will buy the next book...need to support the artists.
BTW...retired Army, Infantry/Artillery, combat vet, like the common sense leadership pointers.
More sex and bad words but a fantastic book!! Well written and reading wizardborn 1 and 2 made me feel like I was there and involved in all the action! During one of the fightings I could feel I was their and my watch showed my heart beating faster! Real life action! War is hell!!
This was supposed to be the second book in a series but didn't follow with any semblance to the first book. There was no coherent plot and the ending was weak. It left you hanging and wandering if the writer just got tied of writing . I will not be following if a third book is published.
The first book was bad in so many ways but had some redeeming moments. This book? Unmitigated trash. Every single character is a PoS, without exception. The society as a whole is both dumb as a box of rocks, and so poorly constructed that none of it would ever work. Plot holes you could drive a steam train through.
Note to self: Do not read any more of this author's books
Hi whisky, I really enjoyed WB2 and would like to add my request to you to do WB3, I am a fan of yours and have read all of your books many times, I like them all but I thought I would write this review after you requesting reviews from your fans. Love your style of writing, can’t wait for any new book you write, keep up the good work. Dan, senior reader 72 Cheers
This series is just bad like most of his books is,I really don't know how he keeps getting 5 stars ,the writing makes no sense and the characters are stupid beyond belief!
Whiskey thank you for volume 2 of this story, and I agree with all the others that love this character. Can't wait to see where you take this storyline.
I really liked this series. Not sure how the MC I'd able to continue to hold back his angry. I'm positive I would have snapped and killed most of the asshats the Mc deals with.
I found the book entertaining and funny. I am a soldier so I can laugh at a lot in the books. I enjoyed it and the development of the characters. From a few different stories thrown together they have come together very well.
I generally do not even leave a review for a book I donot like. The first book wasn’t bad. This book has so much high school drama in it. that it was difficult to read. I had to skip a lot of pages because I couldn’t take it. Don’t read it.
I love Soren and his unwavering resolve to chart his own path. This book is amazing and extremely well written. The only thing I wanted to be was a description of the characters looks/ height. I can’t wait to see who Soren gets married to.
