A fantastic read! I loved this graphic novel. I loved portal traveling and interplanetary traveling though I don’t read enough of it. Some stories I have read that have this kind of travel: A Wrinkle in Time, Corridor, A Darker Shade of Magic, and probably a couple more but can’t think of it right now. Well developed storyline. I enjoyed the humor and loved the magical powers. Fantastic adventures into a new world. Amazing sceneries. There’s a hint of love or at least fondness for someone. So it’s okay for young readers younger than teens to read. The main character Tabby didn’t care for dresses and didn’t have friends. She often spent time alone sketching in her book. In another world, she was however likable to anyone she met. One guy, Paeter, found Tabby very interesting and maybe because she was an alien from Earth.
This book followed Tabby (Tabetha), 15 as she sat on the forest floor sketching and listening to the wind, trees, and birds around her. She gasped when she heard the crows cawed and saw that they have 5 eyes each. She hurried to a tree called Yggdrasil. It’s still leaking mist. Her dad was a lab director at a research facility nearby and their focus was to study this particular leaking mist. The mist was believed to keep life from dying. Tabby was hoping to see the ghost woman she first saw when she was 8 years old. The mist wasn’t believed to affect human. Her dad died after talking to someone at the mist and the research building was closed out. When he died, his body looked like he was 200 years old. No one go into the woods anymore except Tabby. She wanted to know who killed her dad and why because she believed it was the ghost woman instead of the mist. For 7 years she went into the forest after school but no one came, until one day a guy with blue hair appeared for a short time and then he disappeared. The next dawn she saw a light from her room in the direction of the mist tree so she went and caught the last image of the guy, Philip, as he disappeared into a portal. She stood there staring until a hand reached out and pulled Tabby in. It was the ghost woman. She couldn’t resist and fell in. She ended in another planet and Philip was there too. He said he will try to get her home, but with difficulty. This book was divided into three parts.
The Rema Chronicles: Realm of the Blue Mist was well written and illustrated. Definitely breathtaking graphics! The only horror in this book were the ghost woman, ghost creatures, and the five-eyed crows. Every other views were spectacular and friendly. I liked how Tabby didn’t just accept that her dad died. She wanted answers. She’s a curious character who will ask questions and read up new information to learn more about what she didn’t know. A good book for young readers to explore imagination with beautifully crafted world. Philip, Lina, Paeter, and Nelsi were excellent characters. They brought wit and humor to the scenes. I’m excited to read book two which is called Kingdom of Water. I highly recommend everyone to read this graphic novel!
The romance, the mystery and the worldbuilding were all balanced very well. There was a nice steady character growth for the protagonist and the love interest. The art and colours were great and the double page spreads were beautiful.
For once, this graphic novel was not too short, but it unfortunately ended just when the plot was developing into something even more interesting than it was to begin with. There were a lot of hints to a bigger plot involving political aspects that could really elevate this story entirely, so I’m excited for the sequel to see where it goes…
This graphic novel was absolutely amazing. In this story we are following a girl named Tabetha Simon who is trying to get in contact with the ghost her father was obsessing over and then wound up getting killed by the ghost at a particular tree that is considered a biohazard. But Tabetha paid no mind and went to the tree everyday because she felt close to her dad. Then out of no where she sees this boy flying in the air but soon disappears into some portal. Once he disappeared Tabetha wanted to know who and what he was. So of co9urse she draws him in her journal and then the next thing you know her mother tells her it is time to move on and that she has found someone and wants to marry him. Tabetha feels that her mother was trying to replace her dad, but her mom just wanted to be happy. Anyway Tabetha snuck out of the house towards the tree and then stumbles upon a portal and finds the boy she say. His name is Philip who lives in a world called Rema and he is also a keeper and keeps a low profile because he is also a Geist. Geist are look down upon and many people want them dead because they are bad news that according to the people they only bring destruction and chaos. Overall I really like this graphic novel because it has a little bit of a love interest and I like that a lot. Honestly I can not wait for the second graphic novel to be released because I want to know what happens next.
Intriguing start to a fantasy series, although I'm still rather confused why flying is fine but the rest of the other elements are EVIL. Couldn't wind be equally used for violence, ala air-bending?
And ahh, could've done without the instalove. But he's so...handsome!
Will continue!

Action: Check Magic: Check Intrigue: Check Dusting of Romance: Check Humor: And Check! Realm of the Blue Mist has it all and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Follow Tabby on her adventures to discover the truth behind her father’s death and the secrets Rema holds. Wonderful read.
✨ The art is absolutely amazing! I especially love the scenery images; they are so detailed and full of many colors.
✨ The story was fast paced, but for a while, I couldn't understand what the plot was. So much happened in the beginning, and I felt like it was a bit too much for the reader to grasp anything from the start of a book. However, things slow down a bit later and make more sense.
✨ The dynamic between Philip and Tabby is too much fun! I wasn't expecting sarcasm from his character, but it fits. Expect to laugh quite a bit!
✨ There are many mentions of gods and goddesses, and there's also a ghost who sort of killed Tabby's father, so beware of that if you're more sensitive to those things.
✨ I was surprised at how much romance was in this to be considered a Middle Grade. Honestly, I feel like the depth of the story along with the romance hiked it up to more of a YA even though Tabby is 12. It's a bit mature.
✨ Overall, it's a gripping tale once you get past the beginning! If you're a fan of Voltron, you'd really love this.
This was such a fun graphic novel! Full of adventure, magic, mystery, and interesting lore. I found this hard to put down, as the story was so immersive and the manga inspired artwork was stunning.
The banter in this was hilarious and I fell in love with almost every character. There was also a light romance in here that I couldn't help but be invested in.
This first volume ended on a cliffhanger and I found myself actually upset that there wasn't more to read lol.
Need to read volume 2 ASAP because I crave more of this story.
The first in a new series, this intermediate graphic follows Tabatha who is struggling with life after her father's death in mysterious circumstances. Her curiosity leads her through a portal into a different world and a quest to try to return home.
As with any teenagers, the emotions come and go and switch up really quickly which I am sure will appeal to the market of readers but slightly did my head in. However it's a promising premise and I enjoyed it enough to want to know what's going to happen next.
I've been waiting for this to come out for a long time. I read the webcomic as a kid and was OBSESSED, and since then, Amy Kim Kibuishi spent years developing this rich and detailed world and that hard work really shows. Rema is a portal fantasy/scifi about a girl who is transported to another world. It's filled with magic, adventure, and so jaw-droppingly gorgeous scenes. The care taken to develop the lore and culture of the alien world is fantastic. Kibuishi's art style is a joy to look at, I found myself pausing at certain scenes just to take it all in.
Really excellent new graphic novel series that has everything: planet hopping, romance, intrigue! I especially love all the mythology included that really brings the world to life. Read my full review here: https://mrssmithisreading.blogspot.co...
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book had awesome artwork that made me go "Wow there is no way somebody could have drew that!" Alot! The plot was great For the 1st book in a series. I liked how there were parts that divided the book into chapters since I could take break in between and come back later and remember what was going on! Can't wait for the 2nd book since the story and characters are great!
I actually don't enjoy first books enough for five stars but base this on how much I think I would like it in relation to the rest of the series. Great world building should lead to a fun, fantastic series.
Definitely looking forward to seeing where this goes. This author created a seriously awesome fantasy world, and I want to know more about it. The mythology alone would have been enough for one book, let alone all the other cool stuff added in.
THAT CLIFFHANGER THOUGH! Beautiful magical world full of mysteries. Excited to read more and discover the truth. Got a little bit of Ghibli, Avatar the last airbender and Atlantis vibes.
I was enthralled with this beautiful graphic novel. The world building was a bit confusing at times but easily forgiven when taken alongside the charming characters, engaging plot, and vivid artwork. Can't wait for the next installment.
