I AM SOBBING. I love them so much. 😭 the ending felt somewhat rushed but at the same time, I loved the way it wrapped up. It's such an amazing series that I know I'll revisit a million times.

I can finally feel relieved because they got a happy ending after all the tragedy they went through.

My babies ended up together after some separation. People who can’t protect children should not have children. I’m still upset about their upbringing, but at least they have each other now.

Short summary:

I loved this volume.

What I appreciated most is that the story wasn't afraid to get messy.

The scene where Keito stabs that guy was shocking, but at the same time it felt like the culmination of so much pain, trauma, and anger that had been building for years. It was one of those moments where I just had to sit there afterward and process what had happened.

I also loved what the story did with Chihiro. Throughout the series, he spends so much time simply trying to survive. Here, for the first time, it feels like he starts thinking about what he actually wants from life. Watching him choose to pursue his dreams instead of waiting around for things to happen was incredibly satisfying.

And then there's the ending.

I know some people probably wanted a cleaner conclusion, but I actually loved how open it felt. After everything these two characters went through, the fact that Keito came back to Chihiro was enough for me. Their future isn't neatly mapped out, and all their problems aren't magically solved, but they found each other again. Honestly, I thought that was perfect (at least I try to convince myself that I don't need another 30 Volumes of them both).

Since I watched the live-action adaptation first, I already knew the broad outline of the story, but the manga still managed to hit incredibly hard emotionally. If anything, I became even more attached to these characters while reading.

Final Thoughts:

This was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. Keito's past, Chihiro finally choosing to live for himself, the shocking confrontation near the end, and the bittersweet reunion all worked incredibly well for me. The ending felt hopeful without pretending everything was fixed, and I couldn't have asked for a better conclusion to their story.

I have favorite moments in each volume, and this one gets very bleak, as all the volumes are, but it has solid moments, too, and ends on a high note (for the leads). The story is not an easy one, and the leads have the world sort of working against them, but they still fight for a better future for themselves.

If I had any major criticism of this series, it's that the stance on bdsm is a bit dubious. Sex traffickers exist, but the way Maya's business is explicitly tied to very unsafe kinky sexwork, and Maya is explicitly meant to be unsympathetic in every way possible (as stated by the mangaka), while bdsm doesn't manifest in many other ways in the narrative, especially after volume 1, it's just kind of odd. The leads aren't precisely the highest educated, especially on kink and queerness, so it's not surprising, especially with trauma involved, that their view of it is something of a negative one. And it's not like Haoran isn't kinky. The manga doesn't have to say "bdsm is good, actually! This is just the worldview of the leads!" But while there are plenty of queer works that love bdsm and/or note the line between healthy bdsm and unhealthy sex practices, or just "it's fine but we're not into it", some authors do cast bdsm specifically as evil and awful and a sign of sickness (e.g., TJ Klune), and it's just something I'm wary of when I see it.

Generally, the volume is a really good end to the series. If you like dark realistic fiction romance, this is a good one, especially if you like, "My Beautiful Man" but want it a lot more depressing.

this whole series was honestly beautiful ❤️
it's tough topics though. so at times it was a tough read but overall the story and relationship between the two was beautiful.
I'm beyond thrilled to know they ended up meeting again and being together. had me crying and aching for them honestly 😭
and the authors note about Maya was crazy? TF you mean people wanted him to have a happy ending? he was a scumbag til the end. strange people wanted redemption for him.

I'm sad it's over but so happy with how it ended. truly stunning

I’m going to be honest here and say this wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. It was extremely rushed. So much happened with this couple. A kidnapping, a stabbing, running away from the law, jail, release from jail, reunion. I understand this is the final volume but when a story needs to be this rushed to conclude it’s a problem which is a shame because this series was extremely griping for me and this was a highly anticipated read for me. Perhaps at some point I’ll revisit this series and see if I feel the same way about the concluding volume.

I'm finally free and have about 3 main things to be annoying about with this series once I structure my thoughts on this. But for right now I just gotta ask;

… Tanaka, how am I supposed to feel about Mitsuki!? What do YOU want me to think about Mitsuki?
