This book will make you more like a disciple and less like a consumer with your money. Spending, saving, giving & investing—it’s a practical playbook with ten easy-to-follow steps to develop five lifelong habits.
You’ll learn how and why to: LIVE SIMPLY so others can simply live while creating the financial margin you need. GIVE HABITUALLY to break the grip of greed on your heart. SPEND MISSIONALLY because less isn’t always best once you’re living simply. INVEST IMPACTFULLY in ventures with a ‘holy trinity’ of social, spiritual and financial returns. STEWARD WISELY to become a savvy servant with your living, giving, and investing.
Very practical and helpful read. I was quite challenged to think practically about the fact that my money is not my own property, but belongs to Jesus.
I did find that at times I disagreed quite strongly with the author's theology, particularly around what he thought counted as good and unfruitful spiritual returns on investment, and his advice on giving to church.
Simple but very practical advice on money as a Christian. Yoël made me excited to invest well into the kingdom. Looking forward to living on the min as I start working.
Good practical and helpful tips, rooted in scripture and from a realistic perspective. Only helpful if you actually implement these into your life intentionally and get an accountability buddy I’d say.
Easy to read - it’s quite accessible as a text. I enjoyed how it draws upon biblical principles to provide practical steps on how to be wise in saving money (creating a margin), adopting an attitude of giving and translating that into actively investing in kingdom growing initiatives.
Definitely will be considering how I can adopt some of these steps myself!
As someone in my early 20s this is such a practical way to apply what Jesus preaches into our day to day lives. It is a call to see our money not as an aid to our lifestyle of instant gratification, rather a strategic tool to help God’s kingdom to grow. ‘The barefoot disciple’ helps to transform how we perceive ‘our money’, allowing us to become people of generosity, this is a catalyst for more people to receive the message that has changed our lives. We have such a powerful role to play in God’s kingdom and our finances are a huge part of this. This book is well written, easy to follow (in both reading and application), and covers principles that will radically launch you into deeper gratitude and fulfilment! Highly recommend!!!
Really wish the churches I’ve been a part of would talk & teach more about money in the economy of the kingdom of God! This book is a helpful guide, complete with small group questions to encourage you to work this out in community. Enjoyed how accessible the language of this book is. Also enjoyed how practical this book is to help you be a wise steward of your money. Also love the theological grounding & gracious humility of his tone. You can change what your heart loves by putting money towards someone — put a face & a name to where your money is going.
This was a great book challenging Christians in Australia with what it looks like to live a radically different life to those around us for a purpose outside of ourselves (and our retirements).
The small group questions, and the creative & practical suggestions were excellent.
It could do well with being paired with My Millennial Money’s book which provides more tactics in the Australian landscape. Whereas this book provides strategy and principles to live by!
I haven't read finance books since highschool so this was a good place to start. The book was clear on how to steward wisely to best invest in the Kingdom. There were many practical tips, which I will be implementing into my weekly routine. This book has also enc0uraged me to read more finance books so I can serve God best in this way.
A great book for anyone looking to be more Biblical in their approach to finances, but especially for young people starting out. Full of helpful concepts, clear explanations and practical steps, I'd definitely recommend it.
Very applicable. Aimed at young Aussie adults who are relatively financially independent. But the there is something in there for everyone. Lots of food for thought about how to be counter cultural and not a consumer but a 'minimalist'
Must read for all Christians! Loads of Godly financial wisdom wrapped up in an easy to read guidebook. I would highly recommend this book. Life changing in all the best ways.
