With a show to produce and my career as an actress on the line, I really don’t have time to die—especially violently. However, while that might not be on my agenda, it seems to be on other’s.
Awesome.
Instead of acting in my latest endeavor, I’m playing the real-life role of Reluctant Demon Who Has To Save The World—or at the very least, the hot hero.
Fine. I’m always up for a plot twist or a re-write.
Scene One—Save Abaddon from the evil clutches of the hideous Pandora. Scene Two—Don’t die. Scene Three—Avoid Pandora like the plague. I understand she has an evil box … Scene Four—Do not die. Scene Five—Possibly meet my mom, the woman who abandoned me as a baby. Scene Six—Do Not Freaking Die. Scene Seven—Go back to my non-deadly life and win a damn Emmy for Ass The World Turns.
Even though I’m living on the edge of evil, half insanity, half upheaval, I’m a pro and the show must go on.
As the saying goes, a bad dress rehearsal means I don’t get dismembered on opening night. Or something like that.
Robyn writes because the people inside her head won’t leave her alone until she gives them life on paper. Her addictions include shoes (the expensive kind), Coke with extra ice in a styrofoam cup, and bejeweled reading glasses. A former professional actress, she now lives in the south with her family and too many animals to count. Writing gives her a chance to have a job where working in her P.J.’s is acceptable. Once again Robyn Peterman delivers the giggles. Cecily's adventures pick up right where we left off in book one and only get more bananas from there. I love this mature cast of characters and the world that the author has built around them. Excited to read more of the series!
Oh my, I never laughed so hard in my life. Robyn Peterman outdid herself with this book. Comedy, paranormal characters, and edge of your seat action...what's not to love. I loved reading every page of The Edge of Evil. Yes it is a spinoff of Good to the Last Death series but you really don't have to read that series to follow this one. We see some of the Good to the Last Death characters appear in the story but it's not mandatory that you read them....make sure you read the first book "As the Underworld Turns" it will make more sense when reading The Edge of Evil.
The writing is flawless and it had me in stitches. Robyn has a way of pulling you into a story and making you read well past what your bedtime. I would have finished it in one sitting if it wasn't for my eyes....they had a mind of their own and closed around 2 am.
The characters are hilarious. Cecily and Abaddon are perfect together and I just wish Cecily would see it. But just when things are going good someone has to put a stop to good times. This is no exception and the villian in this story really gives Cecily a run for her money. An adventure you don't want to miss.
Highly recommend this series and everything Robyn has written. You won't regret picking up her books if you love laughing.
I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.
Media Type: Audiobook Source: Hoopla via H Public Library Dates Read: 11/7/23 - 11/9/23 Stars: 4 Narrator(s): Jessica Almasy
The Characters:
Cecely Abaddon a.k.a. Abe a.k.a. Dick
The Story:
I love how this author links her stories. I really need Cecily and Abe to have a real conversation about being mates because it is frustrating seeing her continue to push him away.
Mmkay my dog didn’t get walked, I didn’t eat today, and I didn’t leave my sofa till I finished this… I have so much to say that it needs paring down. Firstly, cameos from the other series are wonderful, and Candy Vargo plays a nice role within. This series is super compelling even if unbelievably exaggerated in regards to Hollywood stereotypes. Having lived near LA, it is somewhat similar like an SNL skit is. However it stays true to itself throughout and yet maintains a formula in the storytelling that’s super addictive and laugh out loud funny. Peterman’s ability to rock quotes, puns, gross facts and southern lingo make for some of the the most epic and colorful stories I have read in a long time…You bet your bippy! The author can can take you places with her writing that TV cannot. Highly recommend this and the Midlife series…and would someone please create a TV series this fun!?
!! Beautiful, hilarious and action-packed! This book has it all! I am loving Cecily and Abaddon in this thrilling storyline. Cecily is like the pied-piper for immortal creatures and I can't wait to see who she adds next to her entourage. This band of misfits is exactly what's needed to go and save her love. This story has the exact twists that the plot needs and it's everything. Extremely funny, the jokes and one liners keep coming and they are perfect!
So many feelings happen when I read a Robyn book!! The name calling was hilarious! I tend to highlight and keep that for later use! The friendships made were enduring even for demons. It was great to see some old favorites popping in from time to time. It was so hard not to get emotional, cry, and maybe yell a little bit when reading certain parts. Loved every minute of this book!
Cecily is the mature 40 year old woman we'd all like to be... maybe minus the demon status! What a fun story that keeps twisting and turning, so thay even when you think you know what's going to happen there's a new twist. These characters are a hoot and I loved the cameos of a few old favorites. Bring on the next one, I can't wait!!
This is book two in the Good to the Last Demon series. I laughed equally as much as the first one. It was fast-paced and continued where book one left off. I enjoyed the audiobook, which was once again narrated by Jessica Almasy. She did another outstanding job with all of the voices she narrated. Highly recommend this series!
3.75 stars (Audible). I'm enjoying this spinoff series, but may wait before I dive down the "series rabbit hole". The humor suits me + I enjoy the neverending sagas.
It was good, better than good, way better than good let’s got with fantabulous!!!! Second instalment and thing go into overdrive in an explosive way!!! I will say the ending had me throwing things no my iPad thank goodness but the cats did suck the pillows I tossed 😂🤣 But I know to wait for the next book because there will be a happily ever after!!!!
Hmmm when I hit 40 felt like everything physically went down hill... not becoming a demon bad but hey lol. Robyn has a way of making the nonsensical sensical. Now Cecily has to go on a rescue mission to Vegas of all places with plenty of road bumps in the way (but maybe some new allies along the way). I'm ready for more!
Fans of Robyn Peterman will love this book. It is filled with her trademark humor and snarky dialog. In the previous book Abaddon was kidnapped by Pandora and taken to Las Vegas. This book begins with Cecily, Cher and Ophelia heading to Vegas to get him back. Of course things rarely go as planned for Cecily. Along the way Cecily meets new allies and learns new information about some people in her inner circle. Cecily also learns new aspects of her powers. This book should definitely be considered part of a series to be read in order. It ends on a cliffhanger and none of the major storylines are really resolved.
Cecily has accepted that she is a demon. Abaddon is in a weakened state from protecting her which is how he managed to get kidnapped by Pandora and taken to Vegas. Cecily is determined to get him back. So determined that she calls her mother for help. What could possibly go wrong. There were a lot of twists and turns in this caper!
I loved the first book of the series to bits and it is with gusto that I jumped into this second part of Cecily Bloom's adventures. OK, let's face it, I madly love Abaddon and the more I see him in the books, the more I love him.
Those who haven't read the first series (Good to the Last Death) yet will not be lost at all reading this spinoff, although those who did will, in this second book, see some beloved characters doing some cameos and might find some inside jokes that will make them laugh even harder.
And let's face it: like everything written by the author, this book is wee-your-pants hilarious at times, but the action also keeps us glued to the pages from start to finish. Plus, she had immense pleasure writing this book and, believe me, it shows!
Another must read from one of my favourite authors!
I can always count on Robin's books to cheer me up. Cecily and gang head to Vegas on a rescue mission. Where adventure and laughs abound. It was great to see some similar face from The Good to the last death series.
I found this pretty repetative- the plot wasn't too dissimilar to the first book and there were complete paragraphs of text that I'm fairly sure were completely idential to the first book (when introducing the characters) it just really threw me off thinking 'wait, what? have I read this already? are we jumping back in time??'
This is the second book in the 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘋𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘯 series. This can be read as a standalone as you get a summary of the first book at the beginning of this one, however, I suggest reading in order as it gives a lot more background.
Uncle Joe is still my favorite 🤣 I loved this one too, just wished it was a bit longer. I laughed so many times while listening to this. I can’t wait to see what happens next for Cecily!
𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗦: - Paranormal romance - What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas - Many hilarious moments - Love to hate - Found family - Demon mmc - Demon goddess fmc - Cliffhanger
𝗕𝗟𝗨𝗥𝗕:
What happens in Vegas, slaysin Vegas. With a show to produce and my career as an actress on the line, I really don’t have time to die—especially violently. Even though I’m living on the edge of evil, half insanity, half upheaval, I’m a pro and the show must go on. As the saying goes, a bad dress rehearsal means I don’t get dismembered on opening night. Or something like that. It’s showtime, folks.
I think this is my new favorite series. Book 2 picks up right where one left off. I have pages and pages of highlights again from all the great quotes. We continue with our main Cecily, who is such a badass. I love her so much. She's hilarious and strong and adapts to anything. Abaddon who is still pretty mysterious and I need to know more about him, but the tension between the two is just perfect. Will they, won't they, I can't wait to find out! We got some new sidekicks for Cecily. I must say Fifi is like my new favorite character ever. I need a Fifi in my life. This book built so much on the storyline from the last and it just made me so invested in all of their lives and I wanted every detail. When I reached the end I was genuinely sad that I got there knowing I have to wait for the next. These books make me laugh but also puts me into their world for a little while and brings me so much joy. We even get some guest appearances from the original books and it's a perfect story blend. Who doesn't absolutely love Candy. So far this series is just perfection. I cannot wait for the next one!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Cecily has just come to terms with the news that she's not exactly human - when the smoking hot Abaddon is taken by one of the demons that is supposed to be protecting her... and her family. The next thing she knows she's on the road to Las Vegas to rescue Abaddon from Pandora's clutches. And maybe, possibly, meet her mom.
With everything she thought she knew about the world blowing in the wind, Cecily is on a no holds barred rescue mission, consequences be damned.
After an absolutely hysterical meeting with Candy Vargo, Cecily is ready to go into the casino swinging - even stooping to deal with her washed up rock star ex to get her posse backstage into the venue.
The Edge of Evil is full of the humor we have come to know and love from Peterman. Full of hilarity, there is still the undercurrent of love and acceptance. Friendship and loyalty. Cecily Bloom may be a powerful demon, but she's got a heart of gold, and will stop at nothing to take care of the people she loves. I can not wait to see what she has in store for us in book 3!
This second entry to Robyn Peterman's "Good to the Last Demon" series is equally as funny as the first. FMC and newly discovered demon Cecily takes the reader along on a rescue mission in evil lovers' favorite city, Las Vegas, introducing several new entertaining secondary characters and providing Cecily with more information about her newfound identity - though not enough to prevent her from making a fairly large mistake.
MMC Abbadon is still on my ambivalent list (though growing on me), but I love Cecily's nudist ghost uncle and her stoner genius brother. I have not read the series prior to this, from which there is apparently some crossover, and it has not impacted my enjoyment of this series at all. This is not a standalone, though, this series does need to be read in order as each installment thus far have ended on a cliffhanger, and started with the assumption that the reader already knows a bit about what has previously happened.
The characters in this book are hysterical. It was a treat to see Candy Vargo with her toothpicks make an appearance. Fifi and her grenades are a welcome addition.
Cecily is determined to rescue Abaddon from Pandora’s clutches. This involves a trip to Las Vegas with her crew. She has to interact with her sleazy ex husband to gain access to Pandora’s lair. Much hilarity and destruction ensues.
Cecily discovers that the attraction between her and Abaddon is a compulsion that she feels negates their relationship. In other words, how can it be real if it’s forced by an outside influence? She uses her recently discovered magic to end it (I’m not sure I’m behind the rhyming she uses on her spells) She returns home broken hearted and forms a plan to eliminate any further interaction between the two of them. Abaddon has other ideas.
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? Nah, not so much!! Cecily is on a mission to rescue Abbadon from Pandora when all hell breaks loose… and nothing is the same ever again.
The story is quick paced, full of laughs, and some action. Peterman continues to build the backstory to Cecily’s world and crosses over some characters as she introduces the toothpick chompin Candy Vargo, Tim the Postman, and of course brings back Uncle Grim Reaper and Daisy.
Daisy finally gets to meet Mommy Dearest, who may not be so bad afterall… but is it going to be enough to bridge the 40 yr absence??
Everyone knows three’s a crowd… so what happens when Pandora, Lillith and Cecily all come together???
You’re going to have to pick up the book to find out…. You won’t regret it.
This book picks right up where the last one left off, with Cecily on a mission to save Abaddon from Pandora’s clutches. Along the way she meets Candy Vargo, which makes for hilarious moments. A few of the original series make appearances too.
There is a bit of bitterness as Cecily gets help from the one person she never expected to have to ask. She also learns a few things about her and Abaddon’s attraction to each other. And that sets off a whole new chain of reactions.
This book kept me laughing all the way through. The names the author comes up with are mind blowing lol. You will never regret reading any of Robyn’s books because they make you feel light hearted.
Another wonderful book by Robyn Peterman! Book 2 continues Cecily’s story, as she continues to come to grip with realizing she’s a demon at age 40. Now she’s got to rescue Abaddon from the grimy paws of Pandora and her crew. Vegas road trip, baby! The twists and turns in this book keep you riveted, and Cecily’s introductions to new “species” and talents are hysterical. Realizing some of her friends aren’t what she thought they were (aka not human) just adds to her mental roller coaster.
I love the cameos from some favorite characters from the Good to the Last Death series. I did want to throw my ereader across the room at Cecily’s actions at the end, but I’m sure all will be resolved in future books. Robyn never leaves you hanging without a plan!
I have never read a book that joins 2 series…until now, and so very well. The Edge of Evil, Good to the Last Demon Book 2, joins this series and The Good to the Last Death Series, better than anyone ever attempted. We join Cecily, again, and her wacky friends and family (some of whom are mortal) trying to come up with a plan to rescue her hot object of desire and love, Abaddon. Our gal ends up in Vegas and makes some discoveries that she (and we) did not expect. Well as they say, what happens in Vegas…Oh and just for the record Ms. Peterman, I never imagined myself rooting for the Demons, but here we are…
Cecily has been unceremoniously tossed into the Underworld. She's flying by the seat of her pants, day by day, with her rag tag group of friends--mortal and immortal alike, and her slightly off kilter family.
In this book, she must find a way to rescue Abbadon, the Demon she's falling for. Help comes from the most unexpected places, and a little light revenge along the way is in order, too.
The Edge of Evil is full of Robyn Peterman's humor and witty dialogue. Her characters are full of life and leap off the page to surround you in the story. You're not just reading about Cecily's quest to save Abbadon, you're a part of it.
This was another fun filled story with Cecily up to her eye balls with super naturals and everything that comes with it. She does finally get to meet her mother, from there things get exciting and complicated. There is a bit of a cliff, but I am sure that it will be worth the wait. I really want the next book! I Loved It!!! No Spoilers! Great Adventure! I received an ARC from the Author and I am Leaving this Totally Honest Review because I Choose to and think that this is an Outstanding Story!!!
Cecily has barely gotten to begin to come to terms that she isn’t a middle age human when life makes another big impact on her life. Rescue the hot demon Abaddon from the evil clutches of Pandora. What she didn’t count on was meeting her so called mother in this process. But she will do anything to protect her dad-mom and her brother from Pandora’s evil plans while she gets her demon back. This fast paced book will make you laugh out loud as you devour this next part of Cecily and Abaddon’s story.
Peterman always brings the laughs! Every book of hers I have ever read has made me laugh out loud and this is no exception! Cecily is a middle age woman who was recently thrown into the paranormal world and may be in love would Abaddon but thinks it’s all bs. Funny hold on to your britches wild ride! And what’s better some of our favorite characters come for a visit! Candy Vargo is freakin hilarious and I absolutely adore the fact that Cecily accepts her and doesn’t cower to her crazy! Another must read escape from the queen of foul mouth snark and crazy antics!
