Karla grew up in a small town on the north shore of Lake Erie. She trained and worked in the fashion industry for over two decades, before embracing the writing muse. When she's not writing romance, Karla loves spending time with her family, friends, and pets, reading romance novels, and playing online Scrabble.
Cal moved to Candy Cane Key after his ex-wife cheated with his business partner. He opened up a bakery and now needs someone to work the front. Honey is a young woman that people think of flighty, but she is just always on the go and the squirrels in her head won't shut up. Cal and Honey instantly feel a spark between each other ,but Cal tries to stay away..... But the heart wants the heart gets. A beautiful instalove story , sweet, romantic , fun to read, with a bit steam and without drama😍😍😍😍😍
He is jaded and grumpy, he struggles to be polite to customers and hates Christmas...he just needs a little Honey. Honey loves a challenge, she needs to be busy and active and the busy bakery helps to keep her flighty squirrels at bay, but it is the challenge of making the big, grumpy baker smile that keeps her busiest. That and breaking down the walls around his heart, because she might be flighty when it comes to jobs, but she knows exactly who she wants in her bed... challenge accepted Mr Ginger Bread Man! Honey is so bubbly and sweet, you cannot help but find her endearing and the warm welcome she gives every customer in the bakery brings a smile to even the grumpiest face. I read this on Kindle Unlimited and loved it.

This was a fun and very quick read, I sought out to read a “gingerbread man” romance and I found it. The romance sweet and spicy. Escalates at a pace that would be expected for a novella of only 66 pages. Steamy scenes are very steamy.
This book is adorable. The best grumpy/sunshine couple I’ve read. The sexual tension was simmering and when they finally get together, hot. Great book!
Wonderful!! This was a nice quick, short read. I really enjoyed this book!
Cal mets Honey when she comes looking for a job in his bakery. Cal doesn't hire Honey right away but when she leaves she tells him she'll see him the next day. Honey arrives the next day and is the first one in line to Cal's bakery. Cal shows Honey around and then she tells him he needs to bake more product. Soon Honey is taking over the social media accounts so that they don't have any leftover product. Honey heads to the beach to watch the sunset every night she sees Cal every night. When Cal is walking along the beach he spots a couple making out, soon Honey calls him into her mangrove. Honey confesses to Cal that she can't stop her mind from wondering. Cal asks her if she's proposing to him and she tells him that if he says yes than yes, but if he's not ready then someday she proposes he proposes someday. Cal sits her on the couch and leaves the room for just a second. Cal goes down on one knee and tells her he's old fashion. Cal tells her he wants to see a ring on her finger and tells her he loves her, than asks her to marry him. Honey tells him yes she'll marry him. Honey gives Cal another gift and tells him it's for the both of them. When he opens the fabric, it's a Honey sized apron, white, with a small gingerbread man in a pink-and-blue heart, in the area below the waist straps. Cal asks her if she's pregnant and she tells him, Honey asks him if he's happy. Cal tells her he's the happiest man in the world. Honey tells him she loves her life and everything in it, Cal tells her it sure is.

honestly this is better than I thought it was going to be, I thought it was going to be a short book with smut I don't know just the cover kind of gave that away but it wasn't I mean there was definitely some in it lots of thinking of it in it but that wasn't the main part of it, so the main male character he left where he used to have his old bakery because of a unfaithful wife, he went somewhere quiet and smaller for restart he didn't even necessarily care of his bakery got really big, however he wasn't very good at the customer service side so he went to hire people bunch of people replied but then there was a knock on his window and a younger beautiful woman was there she had a resume and she basically said what time do I need to be here tomorrow to start before he ever offered her the job, she's considered to be very flighty as she refers to it squirrely when it comes to a lot of things and that's why she doesn't hold down jobs in the past this one ends up being different they end up thinking each other are attractive from the very beginning but it just kind of goes on to form into something more than just physical attraction, for the first time in since he hasn't been with his wife he's happy her bubbly flighty personality makes him smile softens him up it really is a cute little small town story, now despite the title most of the book is not based around Christmas time but being the fact that it says he is a ginger and gingerbread man being a baker it does have a Christmas theme to it, if you're looking for a short cute small town romance age Gap grumpy sunshine vibes then I would say grab this one up.
Callaghan Smith, a fancy, popular baker from L.A., got a tough break when he caught his wife cheating with his business partner. The life changing experience turned him into a commitment-phobic grump. He left L.A. and opened a new bakery called the Ginger Bread Man in Candy Cane Key, Florida (not a real place, I looked, made me sad.) Problem was, his grumpy personality was not a good fit as the face of the bakery. So, job number one—hire an effing elf (his words). That’s when Honey came into his world and lit it up.
Honey’s character was super sweet, likable, and a perfect fit for Cal and his business. Their romance trodded along slowly as Honey gently helped him understand that she was the forever girl for him. I loved every sweet encounter as they got to know each other better. Now, I never bookmark spicy scenes because read one, read them all. The spicy scene in this story, I bookmarked. I think it might have been because of the clear message of complete acceptance and love Cal gifted to Honey. It really was lovely.
This novella was fun, funny, steamy, and a real treat to read. I do highly recommend it.

Grinchy/Sunshine I loved this story! It had great chemistry right from the start. I loved these characters together; they made each other better. Cal opens his new bakery in a town that celebrates Christmas all year long. He knows he needs help for the front because his grinch face is going to drive away customers before too long. In walks Honey who applies for the job but tells him that she’s his new employee and she’ll see him tomorrow. Despite his intense attraction for Honey, or maybe because he thinks hiring her will protect him from falling for her, Cal hires her so he can just work on the baking. Honey has a history of leaving a job when she gets bored, but there’s something about the bakery that calls to her, and she has a suspicion that she may never get bored with the Gingerbread Man bakery, or the ginger man himself, Cal. Age gap, grumpy/sunshine, forbidden (employer/employee), small-town, neurodiverse representation, voyeurism.

Gingerbread Man by Karla Doyle is part of the multi-author A Man of the Month Club Novella and the Candy Cane Key series. Callaghan Smith has moved to Candy Cane Key to open a bakery. He is very talented in his baking but also extremely negative/grouchy in life. He walked away from a successful bakery in Miami that he ran with his wife and friend. Unfortunately he walked in on his wife and friend "kneading dough" and so he left. He knows that he needs to hire someone to work the front who will be good with the customers and that is how he meets Honora "Honey" Golding. Honey is exactly what her name implies...sweet, warm, golden, and easy to taste, or at least Cal finds himself wanting to taste her. I loved this story and the characters. The writing is excellent, the story-line is entertaining and smexy fun, the characters are easy to relate to, and I laughed at Honey with her antics. This book was a great read and a wonderful addition to the series.
Cute story about a serious condition that many people aren’t comfort talking about. Adult ADHD can be a struggle and, then, there is the challenge to medicate or not, as well as being comfortable with that med. Karla Doyle handles that topic beautifully, weaving Honey’s tale through her actions, dialogue with her mom and with Cal, and Cal’s fresh acceptance of her and her brain. Cal is the new baker in town and Honey’s new boss. He recognizes that Honey has a gift - she’s extremely creative, uses crafts to keep her brain happy, and has great marketing ideas. And with Honey in his life, Cal slowly finds himself evolving from a grumpy stand-offish baker towards becoming a man with a new outlook and possibly new dreams. But Honey admits that it is hard to stay with one task or job for very long … how exactly can they possibly make anything work for the long haul? Lots of back story here - you just have to read this book!
I just loved this grumpy/sunshine romance. Honey bounced in with all the energy that I can see in others who have unmedicated ADHD and that makes her the perfect heroine for the grumpy stuck in his ways baker, Cal. I saw a lot of both myself and my sister in the way her mind works and runs amok. It's truly refreshing when you read about a heroine who struggles with everyday real world issues. Plus this book doesn't skimp on the steaminess. From the innuendos with her mom and her book club, to watching a particularly amorous couple on the beach, to tension filled glances and caressing touches with each other, and then the challenge of providing the big O at the end. It just scorches on the pages. One of the best installments that I've read in the Candy Cane Key series.

I loved Gingerbread Man Man of the Month Club: Candy Cane Key. This is such a great series. I love anything about Candy Cane Key. Cal needs a new worker for the front if his bakery and the second he meets Honey he knows she’s meant for the job but he’s also attracted to her which is a problem. They have such an amazing chemistry but Cal knows she doesn’t stick around at one place for two long and he’s not willing to risk his heart again. Will Cal be what Honey needs to ground her? This was such a sweet story and I just loved the characters. It was a quick and easy read. I would definitely recommend this book and the series.

Cal used to have a high end bakery in Los Angeles until he caught his wife and business partner in bed together. Now he has opened the Ginger bread Man bakery in Candy Cane Key. He does not get the locals year round Christmas cheer. He needs someone to run the counter, some one who likes to talk to people, he just wants to bake.
He has several applicants but the one that stood out was, Honey Golding. He did not really hire her but she showed up to work the next day. She is his employee but she has him thinking about more than he should want after his ex-wife.

Cal moved to CCK from LA and started his bakery. He's not the biggest fan of the Xmas all year round but it's starting to grow on him but he needs help. Honey applies for the job and lets him know she'll start tomorrow even though he didn't technically hire her lol!! She is a ray of sunshine and Cal is taking back by all her awesomeness and passion for his bakery and for him. She's a lot younger then him so he's hesitant but the draw is too much to ignore. You will devour this boss to lovers age gap sunshine/grumpy love story. The spice is off the charts and it's an excellent read. Happy Reading!!
Oh I need to live in Candy Cane Key, please! I love this book and I need more. Cal is a grumpy baker who moved to the Key after his wife cheated on him. The place is Christmas personified and he needs an elf to work front of shop so he can remain grumpy. Enter Honey and her head squirrels. She is adorable, I love how she describes her crazy thought process, love that she is unfiltered and adored how the two of them get together.
Please write more!!.

“No matter what direction the squirrels go, they always want to come home to you.”
That is the best explanation in the world to me. I get it to a different degree than Honey’s squirrels. But anxiety can make squirrels too. I absolutely loved hearing about the squirrels. Cal was soo awesome in understanding Honey. The gingerbread title pulled me. (I’m known as the gingerbread girl. Since mine are the best. :) ) But Honeys personality and squirrels sold me on the story. Definitely a must read.

Cal is a recently divorced baker who has sworn off relationships after his caught his ex wife cheating on him with his business partner. Honey is a hurricane that suffers from ADHD. She breezes into his life and it’s instant chemistry and desire. If you like hot men, funny rom coms and witty banter this story if for you. Wonderful novella.

A fresh start has Cal opening a new shop in a new town. Along comes Honey, the girl with no filters for the customer service job. Resistance is futile as Honey takes the job whether Cal offers it or not. These two are a power on their own but together the sky's the limit in business and romance. A good quick read.

This was a fun and funny addition to the series and I love going back to Candy Cane Key! In this story, we meet Cal, new bakery owner that's recovering from splitting with his cheating wife, and Honey, a local with a squirrelly brain. These two brought out the best in each other and I loved how their hot chemistry made them both reach for the stars. The patience and acceptance between them was wonderful to see and I was thrilled that they got their much deserved HEA. Good fun!
A sweat, heartfelt read. Cal’s restarting life in Candy Cane Key after the abrupt end of his marriage. He broody and work oriented, no interest in another relationship. Honey is sweet, cute, always “on”, as she says her “squirrels are always on the move”. A forbidden romance with commitment issues that takes Cal and Honey on a journey to a long awaited HEA.

This was my first book read by this author and I enjoyed it. These two characters were funny and great. It took Cal a little while to accept his feelings and make a move on Honey, but it is understandable because of what he has been through in a previous relationship. Honey has always been the type to not settle down or stay in one place for long, but all it took was finding the right person to settle her down.
Honey is full of sunshine and Christmas spirit. She worries about her ADHD and flitting from one thing to another. Cal is the new owner of The Gingerbread Man bakery. He’s trying to get his life back together after moving from California. He’s been a grumpy loner but when Honey starts working for him she brings sunshine and happiness into his lonely workaholic life. Another wonderful Candy Cane Key story. I received an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a wonderful, sweet romance. Cal moved to Candy Cane Key and opened a bakery after his split from his cheating wife. He was struggling with the customer service aspect of his business and advertised for help. Honey blew into his world, took the job and his heart. Sweet, steamy romance with amazing chemistry, a wonderful, loving hero, a fun, sassy heroine and a beautiful HEA.

Honey is the sunshine to Cal's grumpy and they are so cute together. After finding his ex cheating on him with his business partner Cal needed Honey in his life and I'm glad he accepted her love. This is a sweet romance with fun banter, likable characters, and a perfect happily ever after. Gingerbread Man is a great addition to the Candy Cane Key multi-author series. I look forward to reading the rest of this fun series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
I absolutely love the newest Man of the Month book. Cal is the baker in a town that celebrates Christmas every day. He was hurt and left his home when he caught his wife and business partner hooking up. When Honey walks into his life, she truly brings the light back to this grumpy guy. I love how she breaks down all his walls and how these two get the perfect ending.
This was a wonderful age gap romance. It was a short story that had a great pace and I was entertained throughout. Cal and Honey had fantastic chemistry and that beach scene was the best kind of steamy. I loved this whole thing.

Not gonna lie, I was expecting smutty fluff from this story and I got that but so much more! Great story and characters, story flowed well. The H and h were great together, I could FEEL them falling in love! Bonus were the conversions with the h's mom who was a hoot!
I loved this sweet romance with Cal a baker who doesn’t like Christmas so he fakes the excitement over it the town celebrates Christmas all year so he hires Honey who has enough enthusiasm for the both of them. His feelings for Honey have taken over but he believes that he is too old for her. Fantastic older man younger woman story I loved it and the characters and I highly recommend this book.
