My father was the actually the person who got me into reading because he would buy me books whenever I wanted them and would help me read and pronounce certain words. It also reminded me of my late maternal grandfather because we called him "Papa" and he would tell us, his grandchildren, stories in our Navajo language, so he told us stories orally. But back to the story, I loved how the relationship between the father and daughter were depicted because children can easily relate to it. I also liked the pictures in the book. The illustrator did a wonderful job of creating pictures that set the tone for the story which was like a warm, homey, feeling.

I chose this book because the importance of family needs to be expressed in the classroom. The book shows the love between a father and his daughter and the importance of going to school and learning how to read in our world. I chose this book for me as a reader because I am so southern rooted and this book reminded me of my family home. This book would teach in a classroom how to value people and their relationships and I would teach summarizing and synthesizing with this text.
