Everyone in the city fears the return of dark magic, except the psychic Ivy. That is, until dark magic kills one of her clients, and threatens to send her family’s century-old private security company to its financial ruin.
Killian, the most powerful shapeshifter in the region, throws her company a lifebuoy, but in exchange, Ivy must do something she’d swore she’d never do: take on a supernatural client. Namely, Killian himself.
He needs her to protect him against a curse. At least, that’s what he tells her, though the truth is a bit more complicated than he’s let on. But Killian isn’t the only one with a secret, and when he learns hers, it may be worse than her undoing.
It may mean her death.
If you like the bite of True Blood, the whimsical world of A Discovery of Witches, and the love of Outlander, then you’ll devour D.N. Leo’s Curse of the Alpha series.
D.N. Leo is an Australian author. She writes romantic fantasy, suspense, mystery, and supernatural thriller. Her recent book catalog can be found at http://dnleo.com
I'm not 100% sure how I feel about this book. It has a great plot and storyline and I did enjoy the characters. I enjoyed Ivy very much, there's so much more to her than meets the eye, alluding to great magic within her. I loved the mystery surrounding her, who she is biologically and how she slowly gets one ability at a time, due largely by a mysterious figure who pops up unexpectedly. Killian is another great character, another mystery unfolding, a curse that had literally incapacitated him, although he's still deadly in his human form. The romantic tension between them is well played out, so many factors contributing to it. And Nina is really cool, I enjoyed her almost nonchalant attitude to handle anything.
Here's the thing though, I found the pacing very inconsistent. There were times I was completely befuddled with a sudden skip in the telling, expecting to see the continuation of the scene but it left me feeling as though I'd missed out on a chapter, which I hadn't. Then just as I was getting frustrated trying to figure it out, it suddenly fits together and recaptured my attention, making me question myself, did I in fact get it wrong? Then bam, it happens again... Having said all of this, I must reiterate that it IS a good story, I AM interested in finding out what has happened to Killian, what will happen with Ivy and whether they'll be able to discover the cure as well as the who, the why and the what is targeting Killian, that I found myself not wanting the book to end.
Wolf Cursed was the first book I've read by D.N. Leo and I freaking loved it. It's a murder mystery with magic, curses, a badass mfc, and a hot-as-heck wolf shifter. It was great
Ivy is awesome. She is a strong, confident, and capable woman who kicks butt as a private security agent, which isn't the usual career option for the females I read about. Ivy works hard and is good at what she does. Sure, she has a few secrets, but she loves her family and wants to make them proud. Ivy is respectful, caring, smart, and considerate. She's genuinely a very good person, and I like her. A lot.
Enter Killian LeBlanc, Ivy's potential love interest. He's a business mogul, a philanthropist, and a gorgeous work of art. He's all alpha but has a cool edge that could use some warming up. Killian is smart, respectful, and confident. So far, I like shifting, but I have a feeling I would like him even more after he spends more time with Ivy.
This book was really unexpected, in a good way. My favorite thing outside of the mystery and magic is the relationship between Ivy and her sister, Nina. The two are really close, they're not only sisters but friends. It was super sweet. There is a murder mystery that runs throughout the book and dark magic on the loose, supernaturals hitmen, unique characters such as a recluse mage who is dangerous to everybody even his own daughter. There is also the mysterious hooded figure who I still can't tell if she's a friend or foe. So far, she seems friendly, but that could be a lie. This book had two plot twists, one of the unbelievably shocking. Everything is connected and when the truth about the murder is revealed I couldn't. Mind. Freaking. Blown.
Leo has herself a new fan. After reading Wolf Cursed, I got instantly hooked. I loved the amount of detail that readers got, the subtle little clues that might mean something later. I'm still a little confused about the curse aspect, but hopefully, I can get a better understanding in the next book. The characters are great, and the plot kept me guessing. Not to mention, it has all the fantastical elements and a variety of supernaturals. Ivy's first book was filled with action, magic, and mystery, then the story ended on a very dramatic cliff. I can't wait to see what the second book in the series brings.
Wolf Cursed is the first book in a brand new series by D. N. Leo and what a great start to a new world of shifters, mages, and so much more. Wolf Cursed starts off with a blast and never lets up from start to finish with an ending that leaves you wanting more.
Wolf Cursed is loaded with twists and turns that keep the pages turning from beginning to end. The suspense alone is enough to keep those pages turning.
Ivy is trying her best to keep her family’s century-old private security company afloat but is not having much luck with that at the moment. She is picking up an odd job here and there while hoping that something better will come along soon.
She is hired by a shapeshifter to do a job for him but Ivy made a choice a long time ago to never work for anyone from the supernatural world. But if she wants to keep her business running she may not have a choice in the matter.
When no other job presents itself Ivy finally comes to the realization that she has no choice but to take the job offered. Killian asks Ivy to find a potion that he needs badly. But is not telling her everything about the job. He is hiding something from her. There is more to this job than meets the eye. What is it that Killian is keeping secret? Why is he even hiding anything? What is it that Killian is really after? Will this secret of Killian’s put Ivy’s life in danger?
I enjoyed reading Wolf Cursed very much. I liked reading about Ivy’s magic. I liked seeing her use it. I believe the magic scenes were my favorite. I could see it all in my mind as it played out. I can’t wait to see what the next book entails.
I would recommend Wolf Cursed to all fans of shapeshifters and the world of magic. Grab your copy of Wolf Cursed today!
I really liked the premise of Wolf Cursed - shapeshifters, magic, curses, all things I love in paranormal romance. Then there's that last line of the blurb about True Blood, A Discovery of Witches, and Outlander. I love all three of those, having read and watched the first two and watched the Outlander series. Anyway, I was all kinds of excited to dig into this book. Unfortunately, that didn't last. Maybe I missed something, but I didn't find anything about this to understand the comparisons mentioned. I do think the premise has potential. I just don't think that potential was realized. A big part of that was due to the pacing, in my opinion. It was kind of all over the place with excitement and a good pace for a bit, then a major slow down. Those lags were a problem for me, and I ended up setting the book aside out of frustration a couple of times. I even started over once, thinking I missed something when some events or conversations didn't really make sense. I did finally finish, but it became more of a chore than it should have. The book does end with a cliffy, but based on my experience with it, I'm not interested in going further with the series. I realize I'm in the minority, but it is what it is. My opinion is just one, and I would never want to discourage anyone from picking up a book. So, if this one interests you, I say give it go.
WARNING! CLIFFHANGER! This one rates a 5/5 on my trauma scale, so brace yourself!
Ivy works for an agency that provides security from magical threats, and when one of their clients ends up dead, Ivy ends up taking a case she normally never would. Killian is the alpha of the main werewolf pack in Melbourne, he has desperate need of Ivy’s talents to help him with a curse. Dark magic is working it’s way through the city, and they both have to face dangers they never saw coming.
This was a good story, part urban fantasy, part paranormal romance, part mystery, that begins the tale of a mismatched pair as they search for answers and fight against evil. While the main mystery is solved (and I admit to being shocked by the answer), there is an underlying thread that is far from completed, and keeps the reader wondering. There are a lot of secrets throughout the book, and very few of them are revealed- only allowing us the barest glimpse, which keeps us on our toes.
Ultimately this was an entertaining tale, with two very intriguing main characters that we have only just begun to get to know. The story was fast paced, and interesting, and I look forward to seeing what comes next!
Well I liked the premise- Our h, Ivy, works for a mage security company and after their latest client was found dead due to possible supernatural means-the company not only has to deal with the reputational fallout but could also possibly go bankrupt.
Due to that Ivy is forced to do something she doesn't want to- take on a supernatural client. That client is Killian, an alpha werewolf whose looks are just as dangerous as his presence. But through helping him to find a potion to reverse a curse placed on him- things go awry from the start.
So yes the premise and characters are fine, but the writing honestly threw me off. I felt like I couldn't get my bearing in the story a lot of times and had trouble getting immersed into what was going on. Plus the main part of Ivy's job was to find the curse cure and she never even attempted that in this book- just a lot of running around doing other things and meeting with side characters.
So while I read to the end to try and figure out what was happening I don't think I'll be reading on to the next book in the series.
Ivy is hired to find a potion for the alpha of the wolf pack. She had run into him several times and had a weird reaction. She is also working with the local officials to determine that if it was truly a supernatural death. Ivy also starts to see a woman that wants to help her. Ivy will have to determine what she is going to do as there are so conflicting things.
This is just a tiny bit of what happened in the book. There are twists and turns in this story that just keeps you hooked. The chemistry and the push/ pull between Ivy and Killian will keep you on your toes. This is the first book I have read from this author; I am completely hooked. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I highly recommend reading this.

“I’m sure you’ve seen worse in your line of work. But watching your loved one in danger, when there’s nothing you can do about it, is something totally different. Sometimes, you would rather be the one in that situation because you’re certain you can handle yourself. You’d pay anything to not have to go through that experience again. It’ll haunt you for a lifetime.” - Killian
Honor above all... Even revenge.... And love...
A complex, deftly woven tale, it will capture your attention from the first sentence and hold it hostage until the last. If you enjoy strong male/female characters in a well written, slow burn paranormal romance, with plenty of unexpected situations, then read on! You will not be disappointed!
Loved this first in series book. More UF, since we don't quite get to the romance (yet), with mages, vampires and wolves. Ivy is the strong FMC I love in my books, she kicks a$$ but still has a heart of gold when it comes to friends and family. Killian is the reclusive billionaire who also happens to be a wolf shifter and finds himself in the fight for his alpha status. There is a ton of action, lots of character development and a little bit of steam for this first book that ends on a major cliffhanger. Leo is a new to me author and I wasn't disappointed. I will definitely be checking out the next book in the series!.

Everyone is keeping secrets, but some of them are more dangerous than others. Can our hero and heroine find a way to help each other while keeping their secrets secret? Not likely, but perhaps they can find a compromise.
This is book one of the series, so a fine place to start.
The story is well written and easy to read with a well developed setting that just begs to be explored. The characters are excellent and we get to learn more about them throughout the book. The plot moves at a good pace with a nice mix of action and intrigue which definitely keeps things interesting. Overall, a great start to the series and I look forward to seeing what comes next.
Highly recommended.

Another excellent D.N. Leo series that is getting started strongly. The concept of a paranormal-supernatural private security agency is uncanny if you think about it. Ivy is an intelligent and strong female character who is the type you want on your side. Killian steps in to help her company through a rough patch, and things get complicated from there.
Wolf Cursed is an engaging read with action, drama, quite a few secrets, and complications that keep you turning the pages. I look forward to the rest of this series.

This is the first in a series and ends in a cliffhanger. That said I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book.
This story introduces Ivy who is a member of a mage family and works for mages, but isn't one!? She is loyal, capable and driven. This story also introduces Killian, the alpha of the local pack, who is charismatic, strong and focused. The instantaneous attraction between these two is hot, but is it real or spelled?
Be prepared to read this book in one go as it is an absolute page turner.

A new series with an amazingly capable, headstrong, engaging, confident kick tail ask questions later type of woman leading the charge. I’m all for it and this starter book did not disappoint. Lots of magic, touches of mystery, a riveting storyline, tons of coaster twist and a strong alpha male that just has the chemistry tangible, real and jumping off page. There were some parts where the story jumped around a bit, but doesn’t distract too much from the overall story and still very much worth the read. I’m so looking forward Lara and Killian in book 2.

This book was absolutely fantastic! Well written, keeps you in gaged, & funny. There are a few series/authors I could compare it to,K N Banet & Patricia Briggs; but I think this series will be able to stand out on its own. I can't wait for the next book! I completely devoured this one, sorry not sorry. I love that the FMC is strong, doesn't take poo, & doesn't jus fall into insta love. The MMC is strong also and knows how to give and take. I wish I was better at writing because this book deserves more than I can put into words. 100% worth reading!! 3x even, I did :).

I received this book for free and voluntarily reviewed it. This is a DNF for me, I stopped at 16%. I couldn't get into the story. The writing style was awful for me. So much information was squeezed into dialogue to explain things that the characters should already know as they were friends and family members and were part of what is explained. I didn't feel like a natural conversation. I think there are better solutions to bring the reader up to speed. For me, inner dialogue, feelings, facial expressions and gestures were missing. Maybe the story is good, but the writing style wasn't for me, so I stopped reading.
I have conflicting thoughts about this book. I really liked the murder mystery meets supernatural meets strong female character, but I wish it didn't leave on such a sudden cliffhanger. It seemed to me this book could have easily been one 400-500 page book instead of leaving the readers hanging.
I immediately got swept in to the great character and plot building, but I thought it fell flat with Ivy's mission (hunting for the potion) which she was hired for. She didn't make one leeway towards that goal and I honestly don't know if I'm invested enough to continue to the next book and find out.
**Thank you goodreads for the giveaway but all thoughts are my own**

When dark magic kills Ivy’s client, she needs to take action. Killian, a powerful shapeshifter, asks her to take him on as a client to protect him from a curse. But there is more to it than that. Will this put the two of them in danger?
It is pretty much guaranteed that in this author’s amazing stories things will get worse before they get better. Hang onto your seat as you grab your copy and follow the intriguing story line that will hook you on this series. You will find the characters and story line inexorably pull you in and refuse to let you go!
Mystery, a little suspence, and action. Ivy is trying to keep her buisness a float. When one of her clients is found dead, they could loss it all. Killian has asked for their help, but he is a shifter. What will happen if they take the job? What are these powers that she is showing? She is human, she did not want to be a mage? Can she save her buisness? Can she help Killian? What is really going on?.

There’s so many secrets in this book!! It’s starting to unravel and make a big picture and it’s got me hooked. Ivy is quite the main character. I like her a lot. She stays in her own head a lot. I’m excited to see her coming out of that. I also love the side characters. Nina, Killian, uncle Finn, Luca, Quinn. I’m quite involved lol. Lots of mystery and intrigue and I’m also liking detective Liam. I’m jumping straight into book 2! Nothing is as it seems and I’m salivating to learn more.
Ivy’s family owned part of a mage security company and worked there. One of their clients was killed so she was working with the detective to find who did it. Then Killian hired her to help find a potion to reverse a curse he inherited from his father when he died. She also figured out what was wrong with his mother but the ending I cried so very sad! Good book and enjoyed reading from a new author!.

This was absolutely awesome! With incredible world building and an exciting and mysterious storyline, we are introduced to Ivy. A strong, kick ass psychic who is part of her family paranormal / supernatural security company and is the best at what she does. Enter Killian, a hot, sexy and powerful shifter who steps up to help Ivy when she finds herself in a tight spot. Fast paced, action paced and filled with twists and turns and complications and I cannot wait to read more.
Crime/mystery/forensic shows are among my favorite genres on TV and reading this gave me the same feel. It felt like I was watching the scenes unfold before my eyes.
The romance aspect (and the steamy scenes) definitely added icing to the already delicious cake, which I highly approve of. I will most definitely be on the lookout for the next books. Great job, author!

This book kept me hooked, right from the beginning. The characters are complex and engaging, real character traits and foibles. The storyline is a maze of turns and surprises, such fun and a nice change from the boring straight line stories.

This book was a suspenseful page turner. Killian was a hard loyal character. A true alpha! Ivy was brimstone and spit fire. Very determined. This book had turns I didn't see coming. Does end on a cliffhanger but eager to read more.

I loved the main character in this story Ivy and her special Tarot cards. This book held my interest from the very beginning and throughout the story as Ivy works her way to finding the answers that challenge her as she consults her Tarot cards. The mystery, magic and characters captured my reading and I can't wait for the next book.
I love Ivy and all her fabulousness. She's tough, confident, strong, smart, and takes no crap. The chemistry between her and Killian is a wolf-shifter who is her perfect match. They have a lot of chemistry and I'm excited to see where that leads. The story isn't a romance though, it's a magical murder mystery that's full of twists and surprises. I was quickly sucked in and engaged until the end.
Fated to be mated has sort of become the deus ex machine for insta-love to develop. ya know, they are fated loves, so obviously they feel this strong attraction. it's just natural.. not. plus I think the blurb should be changed from: "Deadly secrets. Sinful power. Forbidden love" to "Deadly secrets. Sinful power. Forbidden LUST."
Wolf Cursed, the first book of the Curse of the Alpha series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). I really enjoyed the byplay between Ivy and Killian, they were a good contrast to each other. The writer was successful in building suspense and I often found myself delightfully surprised when an unexpected reveal was made. Awesome ending. I started the next book immediately.
Intriguing plot and premise, but I wasn't 100% hooked. I'm a huge mood reader, and my mind is still reeling from my last book hangover. I will say the ending had a good twist though! I might try this series again in the future but I'll stick with the 3.5 for now.
Thanks for gifting me a copy in a Goodreads giveaway! 🫶
