I live in a magical world. A world filled with vampires, shifters, and mages. Mysteriously, I was born without powers.
After living the past two years in a personal hell, enduring abuse from a fiancé I didn’t choose, I finally snapped. An act of self-defense against my fiancé angers my father, and in retaliation for my actions, he creates the ultimate contest. One that only the most powerful magicals can compete in to win my hand in marriage.
It sounds bleak, but anything has to be better than my current situation. At least, I thought so, until they appeared in the middle of the night to whisk me away.
A vampire prince.
A wolf without a pack.
A powerful mage.
My three captors do everything they can to win the contest, and as the attraction between the four of us grows, so does their desire to keep me safe.
When the mystery of my birth comes into play, we begin to question everything I thought I knew about my life. Am I just a human with no magical powers? Or am I something else entirely? One thing is certain, if my captors cannot keep me safe, more than my heart is at stake: my life is on the line.
Warning: This is book 1 of 3 in a dark and gritty paranormal romance series. It contains on page sexual assault, non-consent, sex, drugs/alcohol, violence, language, and blood. This is a why choose romance, meaning the main character will end up with at least three guys by the end of the series. If you enjoy tattooed bad guys who’d do anything for their girl, MM relationships, and plenty of heat, then join the fates in These Dangerous Fates.
AUTHORS NOTES: Please refer to the author’s website for all tropes and trigger warnings.
Spice: 3.5/5 I really enjoyed this book! It didn’t take long for me to get sucked into this read. I’m a personal fan of all things why choose, so when you mix in a harem full of supernaturals? It’s a recipe for an interesting and spicy book! This is definitely a faster burn romance than I am used to, but I believe this author did a great job of still creating a realistic bond between our characters. I liked that this world was set in a more modern and urban setting. The writing was very easy to follow but also detailed enough to allow me to immerse myself into the pages and picture everything that was happening. I found the characters were very well written. All harem members were very unique in their personalities and I know it’s difficult especially writing in multiple POVs. I loved the interaction between our fmc and her men. It was absolutely adorable and the perfect amount of spicy. I would have fell for all of them too if I were her…she’s one lucky lady! This was a great start to a new series! One I cannot wait to continue. This does end on a cliffhanger…so you can all read and suffer with me! I recommend to any fans of reverse harems and of course lovers of the sexy supernatural.

This book was easy to get drawn into. The world, the characters, the story.
I felt like some of the story moved too fast while the other parts didn’t progress at all. It had spice, and I know this is just the first book but there were several threads left unfinished. So, I feel like it’s a good start, but I would have liked a little more of a solid direction for the story.

❤️ Shifters, Vampires, and Mages! 🖤 MF, MFM, MMF, MM ❤️ Fated Mates 🖤 Multi-POV ❤️ Paranormal Romance 🖤 Spicyyyy ❤️ 3 men, 1 woman ---- Ahhhhhhhhh! Okay I tried to pick a favorite between Malakai, Cade, and Sterling.... But I just can't!! They're all so amazing for noooooo reasonnn. (many reasons) Anyways, to the review! I ate this up in one sitting, no breaks taken. I was absolutely enveloped in the story, and the men. We started off a little rocky with Sam's appearance, but I quickly enjoyed the book more after her self defense scene, go girl give that son' bitch what he deserves 👏 I feel like the characters are written well, same as the plot. No plot holes detected here 👍 The vibes from the boys were immaculate when they first met Ellis, and they only got better! They spice was HOT 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️, and I'm so glad Ellis didn't have to only pick one! Cause I totally couldn't... - Malakai has that "I'll commit war crimes for you" bad boy vibe, - Cade has the "I'll do anything that's best for you" sweetie vibes - and Sterling has "I want to tell you everything forever" vibes.
Perfect matches in my opinion!
I actually adored this book, I plan to buy a paperback for my shelves! Definitely a recommended read ❤️🖤
Oh yeah! Ends on a cliffhanger!!! It made me mentally explode 🫠
A brand new Why Choose Romance that is worth the read. It does have dark content that centers around the FMC Ellis being treated poorly by her fiance' and her father.
In a world where supernatural beings reign supreme, humans don't have a fighting chance. It's all about survival. Ellis life hasn't been a bed of roses; being born a human with no magic, the byproduct of two powerful mages Ellis' life has been one disaster after the other. I enjoyed how the author makes the FMC vulnerable but strong; she's bloodied, bruised and abused but still she rise.
When an act of self defense makes her a pawn in her father's games, Ellis must now figure out her next move. As punishment her father has created a Hunger Games style event with the prize being Ellis' hand in marriage. As if she didn't have enough problems.
Ellis' luck takes a drastic turn when she is taken by the 3 most eligible and powerful supernatural around. Malakai (Vampire Prince/Assassin), Cade (Mage Healer/Assassin) and Sterling (Alpha Wolf/Assassin). Be prepared for some super spicy MM, MF, MFM scenes within this harem.
What started out as a means for more training and brotherly shenanigans soon turn into something altogether different when the guys realize who Elli really is to each of them. Now the stakes are high and every man is competing for a chance to snatch Ellis away but her men won't go down without a fight but when secrets of betrayal surface Ellis must decide if she wants to succumb to her father's wishes or take a chance on the guys who has stolen her heart.
Wooo boy, this was a fun one! This is only the second “why choose” or “reverse harem” that I’ve read, and they are something else 😂
With this genre, you definitely know what you’re getting when you jump in! This book did NOT disappoint- and I have to commend the author because she can write MMC so well 🥵🥵 I’m obsessed with them all and for very different reasons! I really enjoyed that the story showed us all 4 POV and we really got to know these characters pretty well. I’m a sucker for a bad boy who’s actually a soft boy 🤣 and these 3 were complete puddy in Ellis’s hands. I mean, a vampire, a shifter, and a mage… say less.
Okay, so I really loved this book!!! “These Dangerous Fates” was the start to a spicy paranormal why choose? series, and I thought it was amazing! Spradling really sets the scene with intriguing world building and just the right balance of background info so that I just became more invested in the story, instead of being overwhelmed by it. Ellis, the heroine, had been through so much, and I loved seeing her take her control back and regain her confidence during her time with Malakai, Cade, and Sterling. As for those three, I liked that they all had unique personalities, and that they had different types of magic/powers/strengths as well. While Cade was my favorite of the three, I still enjoyed reading about all three characters, and I’m super excited to see how this story continues!
That was SO good. It has the bonds, spice, connections, betrayals, and repairs by love. This was so well written and filled with thrills, twists, and turns. I highly recommend this read! It's paranormal romance with fated mates, magic, vampires, shifters, and mages. Be sure to check trigger warnings. I can't wait to read the next book and see what happens after that cliffhanger!
One of the better reverse harem stories I’ve read lately! All the characters were well fleshed out, their chemistry was really good. ALOT of sex scenes. ALOT of twists and turns. The plot was really interesting! It starts out dark but slowly brightens like the fmc with her men.
These Dangerous Fates is a dark paranormal romance set in a realm called Lustros. It is a magical world filled with vampires, shifters, mages, witches... and humans. Ellis Kennedy is the daughter of two powerful mages. It is therefore quite bizarre that she is a human who lacks all magical abilities. She lives with her father, Thomas, who sees her as a disappointment. He has no use for her and has arranged a marriage with one of his underlings, ensuring his legacy continues. Sam, Ellis' fiance, is not a good person. He sees her a property, and treats her as such. He is physically, mentally and emotionally abusive.
One night, Ellis fights back. Her father is furious and in order to punish her, arranges a competition with her hand (in marriage) being the prize. The first step is to kidnap her from her home, and instructions will follow once photographic proof is provided. This competition will be very dangerous.
Malakai Thorne, son of the Vampire King, decides to enter in order to challenge himself. He is one of the Triad, the three most eligible bachelors of Lustros. The trio is rounded out with Sterling Harrison, an alpha wolf shifter, and Cade Campbell, a powerful mage. While Malakai will be the participant but he will be aided by his brothers, Sterling and Cade.
They successfully abduct Ellis from her home and things start to develop within this new found family. Attraction. Connection. The Triad learns what Ellis had endured and are determined to keep her safe and out of her father's (and Sam's) clutches, but it won't be easy.
This is a deliciously spicy (MM, MF, MFM, MMF), why choose/reverse harem story with very sexy morally grey men. I had so much fun reading this one. The characters are unique and well developed, there is a genuine plot (and not just yummy smut), and the suspense and intrigue kept me captivated. While I was frustrated that the book lacked resolution (aka cliffhanger!), I was elated to see that the second book in the Fates series, These Deadly Dreams, is coming early 2024. I'll be eagerly awaiting that release.
✨”If I can't have all of you, I don't want any of you."
Cade relaxes under me, but concern still pulls his brows down. "Does he know that?" he asks, nodding his head toward Kai.
He snorts and walks forward. Fisting my hair in his grasp, he tugs my head back and leans down. I expect him to kiss me, to lay his claim, but instead, his mouth lands on Cade's. His surprise is evident in the way his body jerks under mine, his fingers tightening on my hips. And when he kisses Kai back, molten heat pools in my core.
"You are both mine," Kai growls against Cade's mouth.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫(4.5) 🌶️🌶️🌶️ 🌶️ (3.5)
✨I recently read @whitney_spradling_author’s new release, These Dangerous Fates, and I absolutely devoured this book! This dark paranormal why choose/ polyamorous romance novel has shifters, mages, vampires, accurate mental health representation, hidden identities, multiple points of view, proximity of convenience, spice, and romance that pulls at your delicate heart strings.
I adored the main male characters and their devotion to Ellis as the plot unfolds. The relationships that form are born from a desire to shield the FMC from further trauma after entering into a sinister contest, and through more gentle moments of friendship.
✨These Dangerous Fates explores devastating traumas that the characters have had to endure in their past, particularly Ellis, and her exploration to reclaim her life, her body, and to allow herself to feel protected, loved, and cherished through trust with the MMC’s.
I highly recommend These Dangerous Fates to those who enjoy paranormal romance, fantasy romance, why choose, and romantasy stories. I plan to continue on with this series ✨✨✨🫶🏽 tour!
Give consideration to trigger end content warning. This story ends on a cliffhanger, and is the first book in The Fates Trilogy.
3 stars was generous, it was closer to a 2 star honestly, but since I’m planning on reading the second book for closure, I rounded up. First, plot holes. Mildly annoying but I can ignore a few. Next, male on male. Big fat no from me. Not interested, not attracted to the idea, no thank you. I love a good reverse harem, and sometimes that means there’s some interaction between the men. But as far as I’m concerned, the men should be focused wholly on the woman as their center as what unites them, not have their own sexual relationships separate from her.
Another big pet peeve of mine is the insta love. This girl was with them for a total of a few days, maybe a week? That’s the entire book. And not only is it world changing love, it’s also enough to completely heal from her years of emotional, physical and sexual abuse. That combined with her stupid overreaction to Sterling’s secret made me want to bash my own head in. Also, “baby girl”? 🤢 I hate that pet name, and I know it’s probably just a me thing.
The story is interesting enough to keep me reading and aside from the parts that made me roll my eyes, it kept my attention. Normally a 2 star would be hard to finish, so that’s another reason I rounded up. It had just enough interest and promise that I’ll read the second one. Plus, it ended on a cliff hanger (which I also hate), so I need to have some closure.
This book was so incredibly well done, and I can confidently say that it’s one of the best books I’ve read this year.
(I sat down to read this, and finished it 3 hours later, I just couldn’t put it down)
I was immediately hooked by our broken Ellis, and the trauma she had experienced. Then when she defends herself and everything goes amuck. She’s faced with a contest where she is both the target and the prize.
"𝒲𝑒'𝓇𝑒 𝓃𝑜𝓉 𝑔𝑜𝒹𝓈, 𝒷𝒶𝒷𝓎 𝑔𝒾𝓇𝓁. 𝒲𝑒'𝓇𝑒 𝓎𝑜𝓊𝓇 𝓂𝑜𝓃𝓈𝓉𝑒𝓇𝓈”
Then they join the contest and steal Ellis away. A vampire prince, a shifter and a mage. And it becomes more than just a game to them.
I couldn’t get enough of the spice, the story, the twists, the dark secrets, and then men 😉
Throw in 🔥Multiple POV’s 🔥Why choose 🔥Fated Mates 🔥Touch her and die 🔥Found family 🔥Spice
2.5 to be fair but I could not give it a 3. spoilers.
Alright I am trying to break my reviews into more readable content as of late I have just ranted and it doesn't work as well. So here we go.
FMC: Oh Ellis, I will note that with the trigger warning in the beginning I did skip the Rape scene and the abuse scene for the most part. It is not something I can read comfortably and had to choose to not read it. However she does bring it up enough that even if you skipped it, it would still be something you absolutely were aware of. Ellis as a character is complicated for me. In one breath I say okay she's been abused most of the last two years and has the trauma surrounding that, and in my next breath I am annoyed with her and want her to have some ability to stand on her own as a character and not in an annoying damsel way. The only time in this whole book she makes a strong choice for herself she just leaves the house without telling anyone and gets kidnapped by her abusive ex. Mam, make good decisions and stop being an idiot. Trauma or not tell me how that was a good choice. So I hope as she grows I like her more, but I am struggling with the wounded bird without any personality right now.
The guys: Now, I think they were built up in the conversation Allie and Ellis had in the cafe and just never got to that level once introduced. They are supposed to be these super hot amazing cocky etc guys and they just don't give me that impression once we get to know them. Yes they have this reputation and it may not be them, but they still don't come off as bad as assassins either, and if Cade works for Ellis' dad why has her dad not contacted him at all? Threatened his family at all? It just keeps falling flat. I am not one to care about instalove or lust when it comes to mates and fated situations but some of this really came off as pity for Ellis versus love. They see this broken bird and just jump into overdrive because as I previously said she really hasnt been anything but emotional and overwhelmed, and hasn't shown any personality. But we will see. I think the author has some good outlines of the characters but none of them seem to be flushed out past their baseline and I am hoping that can change. Also. smut is good we are all here for a good time, but smut is no replacement for a real connection to the characters and I can't feel a real connection for them but definitely can see sexual attraction.
Plot: Well. now this is where my 2.5 comes in...The author has an idea and you can see the outline but in execution I am struggling with it. I think with the addition of like 8 sex scenes we lose some of the plot movements and character development. Which again we like smut, we get it, but if your trying to do an in depth plot you have to have balance. So main character stabs fiance, gets thrown into a competition for her hand in marriage, gets mates, finds out she is not her dad's daughter, and then learns she is a harpy. That is the only plot movement. We aren't even at the second competition yet at this point. I also wish we had some world building and some outside the group details. I guess we see a club and a cafe? But we don't really know what is going on in this world, how worried should we be about Kai's dad? When is the arranged marriage girl gonna come be a mean girl (we all know she will)? Why has cade not been called to work? How powerful is the wolf clan? Why does this line of politics matter? Without any of this depth how can we have tension and worry?
Overall: I think this is a simple quick read if that's what you want, I just don't think this series is for me! I want some depth, some tension, and a character I can get behind and want to succeed and I am just not there with this one.
Review: AHH! This book…I have no words! This is a multi-POV, why choose paranormal romance that kicks off an all new series. Whitney does an amazing job with this book and creating the world of magic, deception and secrets.
Ellis is the FMC in this book and at first she appears to be battered and weak but we quickly learn that beneath her quiet façade is a strong and loud woman who will fight for what she wants. The abuse and torture that she is put through is dark and can be triggering but Whitney writes it in such a way that you are in awe of Ellis’ strength and will to survive. I loved reading her story and the growth she has in this first book. I found myself hoping that she would realize she had the mate bonds sooner but also was happy that she was so innocent and naïve. The main arc in this book is her rebelling against her father and then him entering her into a competition to find a husband.
Malakai was my favorite male in this book and is the Dark Vampire Prince. The way he rebukes tradition and enters the competition Ellis’ father puts on made me like him more, especially when he meets her and realizes that she is not what he was expecting. I found myself to be surprised the most with his character. He was perhaps the softest of the three men and melted for Ellis the fastest. I enjoyed all his chapters and their witty banter and angst. I also really loved how he only wanted what was best for Ellis.
Cade on the other hand is a rascal. I loved his humor and sarcasm. I felt like he was the closest to Ellis and understood her the best in this book. I also loved how he was the jokester and could break the tension in the darker scenes in this book. He is a character that I am looking forward to reading about this most in the next book since we get his bond with Ellis near the end. I am also looking forward to seeing more of his power.
Sterling is the broody one in the trio and his past has dark secrets. He was my least favorite in this book since we learn the lest about him but I am looking forward to cracking his secrets in book 2. When his past with Ellis, her father and his pack was revealed I was shocked and I was able to click pieces together I wasn’t expecting. I am hoping that is expanded upon in book 2.
This book is low to medium spice. It focuses on the building of the trust and loyalty more than spice. I enjoyed how Ellis came out of her shell and began to lean on them and I also liked how she began to fight back against her father and ex-fiancé. I am looking forward to reading more about her journey!
Rating: 9/10, a great introduction to this intense world!
Ellis has spent the last two years being abused by the fiancé that her father chose for her. Her father knows what has been happening to her but doesn't care, as she is just a human. Therefore, essentially worthless. But when things escalate and Ellis tries to protect herself she takes things too far. This leads her father to start a competition for her hand in marriage, where a supernatural must prove he is good enough for Ellis. Kai sees the challenge as a way for him and his two best friends Cade and Sterling to train. The first step is kidnapping Ellis from her home. With everything that Ellis has endured, it's no surprise that her father would stoop so low, and she has no choice but to go along with everything. Once the guys get their hands on Ellis they quickly realize there is something else going on and the competition isn't as straight forward as it seems. As Ellis opens up to the guys they start getting closer and the guys start to feel things for her that they've never felt for anyone else. But they still have Ellis's father, ex-fiancé, and the competition to worry about.
This got me out of a book slump. I didn't realize the series wasn't complete and I am soooo sad because that cliffhanger was... oof. Can't wait for the next book!
At first, the instalove that I was getting from this was off putting because of the trauma Ellis has been through, but it makes sense later on so I am glad I didn't let that stop me from continuing.
If you told me to pick a favorite between Cade, Kai, and Sterling, I couldn't. They are each unique and care for Ellis in different ways and come together in a way that completes her.
The only thing that didn't really add up was supposedly the guys are these assassins that have heavily trained for years, so much so that Kai can spend more time in the sun then a usual vampire. Yet during the first challenge Kai seems to be bested so easily. He gets stabbed in the shoulder and it seems to hinder him severely for someone constantly going on missions. And then gets cornered easily by essentially one mage. And Cade and Sterling can't easily win a fight when it was one on one in the start? It just seemed like they were really hyped and then seemed so.. normal.
"Four hundred years old and you can't cook real food." pg. 153
"I'm 163 years old. Kai is 150, and Cade is the baby. He's only 109." pg. 237
Was the quote before supposed to be sarcasm? Because it made it seem like he was older and then later on he was only 150. And if it was it seemed a little dramatic for only a 41 year age difference when they are all gonna live for hundreds of years.
No lol I wanted this to be good! I really, really did.
I was going to DNF, but I said fuck it, let me enjoy the sex scenes and then I'll never think about it again. Word of caution--there are 2 on-page rape scenes in the beginning of the story. I'm glad the author had the trigger warning for that.
- Insta-love/lust/mate on steroids bc they had like 1 conversation and then they're all "let me make you feel good since you've been getting raped by your fiancé for 2 years." Yeah, that's not cool and it's unrealistic. - Um... Didn't Katie MacAlister have a vampire series that have mates called Beloveds? Pretty sure I'm right and pretty sure this book copied that. - We've got an innocent non-virgin that blushes at everything, but is a pro in bed with a dirty mouth and naughty fantasies. Totally realistic. - "I love yous" were thrown out before the 200 page mark after 2 sex scenes and like 3 conversations. Extremely fast-burn with no relationship or character development. YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW EACH OTHER WTF. - here's our token bestie that the FMC must have in every fantasy! A plot device. - The use of "dad" has too much familiarity behind it when the "dads" in this book are horrible human beings. Should've gone with Father or son of a bitch. - They talk like teenagers--bro, many curse words, slang, bad quips, cringey banter--and the 3 guys are supposed to be more than 100 years old. - Someone said they liked the modern setting, but including "scrolling through social media" with magical beings over 100 years old and having really terrible world-building with literally no backstory of details about this world were all really bad choices for a story. - The sex scenes were good and generous, but they weren't good enough to warrant a higher rating.
********Spoilers ahead********
- "Oh, no! I learned that one of the 3 hot guys I've known for 1 minute has something to do with my mom and sister's deaths! I need to run away and then get subsequently kidnapped by my abusive and psychotic fiancé! Help me!" Definitely a TSTL heroine.
********End Spoilers********
RHs are rarely good, but I keep up hope that I'll find another excellent RH soon! But skip this one. It's bad.
I absolutely devoured this book. There was not a single dull moment, and I just couldn’t put it down! In a world where magical beings are the elite, Ellis, the daughter of two powerful mages, but yet somehow human, is just trying to survive. At the beginning of the book, Ellis is numb. She’s just a shell going through the motions, which immediately had me rooting for her. Her pain and suffering, not only at the hands of her fiancé, but also her father, were heartbreaking💔 When finally standing up for herself, her dad creates a contest to win her hand in marriage, and her world is flipped upside down.
When Malakai, the vampire prince, decides to enter the contest with the help of his friends Cade, a powerful mage, and Sterling, a shifter without a pack, they thought they were going to just have a little fun, but they were in for so much more. What started out as a joke turns into a mission to keep Ellis safe at all costs. These three would burn the world for her🔥
As a multi-pov, it can be difficult to distinguish between the voices, but that was not the case here. Cade is so sweet. He’s quick to see the fear in Ellis and crates a safe space for her, something she’s never had in her life. Malakai is a little cocky and spicy, but can be soft at times. His commentary usually got a laugh out of me! He’s also pierced😉 And then there’s Sterling. Since he’s the broody one, I feel like there’s still so much to learn about him.
You get a little bit of everything in this book. Action from the contest, spice on spice on spice, twists and secrets, trauma healing, and more. And a cliffhanger; and informational one, not an action one (if that makes sense!)
⚠️Warning: This book contains on page sexual assault, non-consent, s3x, drugs/alcohol, violence, language, and blood.
TL;DR: Why choose with a vampire, shifter, and mage. Need I say more?
Thank you to Equality Book Tours and Whitney Spralding for the opportunity to read and review this amazing book!
𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/𝟱 𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗖𝗘: 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
I really enjoyed reading this book! I absolutely love reading Why Choose romances and These Dangerous Fates did not disappoint.
This book was fast paced and was set in an urban fantasy setting and I really enjoyed it! the world building was done well and the book flowed very nicely even with it being fast paced. I think my favorite thing about this book was the interactions between all of our main characters. You can really feel the connection between all of them as a reader and it’s just done amazingly well!
This book follows the story of Ellis, Kai, Cade, and Sterling. I love all of our main characters! My heart broke for Ellis in the beginning. I hated the situation she was in and cheered her on 100% when she took some revenge on Sam for what he was doing to her. I really loved seeing her take back her life and confidence throughout the book.
As a consequence of what she did to Sam, Ellis’ father creates a contest with challenges and whoever wins the contest, wins Ellis’ hand in marriage. Enter the Triad! Kai enters with the help of his friends Cade and Sterling. Once they meet Ellis, everything changes. They all feel an instant connection with each other and they create a safe and loving space for her where she can heal from the trauma she went through from Sam and her father.
I absolutely love the Triad. Cade is sweet and loving and wants nothing more than for Ellis to feel safe. Kai is our morally grey vampire but would do anything to keep those he loves safe. And Sterling is our wolf shifter and is mysterious but is fiercely protective of his pack.
The interactions between Ellis and the guys is done so well. I love how protective they are of her and I love that they created this safe space for her to heal.
🌶️ I can’t forget about the spice! The spice spiced just right and I couldn’t get enough of it! Why Choose never disappoints and this book DELIVERED!🌶️
Now you definitely need to go into reading this book with the expectation that it is a reverse harem, book one of a series so there is no HEA (yet at least), there is a LOTs of spice, and there are going to most certainly be triggers for some people.
Now, I love fantasy/paranormal smutty spiciness and I’m one that thinks along the lines of the more trigger warnings the better so this book was right up my alley.
Because the length of this book, it’s not too long, around 300 pages, the book is definitely fast paced.
I loved the three main male characters. We have Kai who is the dark morally grey figure, Cade who is our golden retriever, and Sterling who is a little bit more quiet and elusive. Each of them form their own relationship with Ellis (the main female character) and they each have their own connection to her.
All three of the main male characters also have such a strong bond to each other. Rather than just being friends, they have more of the found family/brother feel.
Ellis is more of the broken main female lead type of character. She has her own trauma and ghosts that she hast to work through to be able to open herself up to the guys and her trauma is really in the forefront for most of the book.
Each of the four main characters have their own point of view chapters throughout the book which I loved.
There is a good storyline throughout this entire book, but sex is a big piece of the story and each of the characters. There is definitely also betrayal, plot twists, and the story is not complete so there is a decent cliffhanger making you eager for the next book.
Some tropes that you will find are: RH One bed Enemies to lovers Fates mated Arranged marriage There is a mafia type of feel Found family Damsel in distress Good girl M/M and F/M action
A vampire, a wolf shifter, and a mage break into a girl’s room. Well not exactly like that, but kind of like that. This book was such a thrilling read from the beginning to the end. Why Choose is my kryptonite and I absolutely devoured this story.
Ellis Kennedy lives in a magical world where humans are basically second-class citizens. Even though she is the daughter of two mages, she herself was born without powers and is considered human. After two years of suffering her fiancé’s abuse, Ellis fights back, angering her father. He creates a contest in retaliation for her misdeed, where the winner will win her hand in marriage. Enter Malakai Thorne, Sterling Harrison, and Cade Campbell.
I enjoyed the multiple POVs and getting a little more insight from each of the characters. The family bonds of their found family couldn’t have been stronger if they had been blood related and I thought that was extra special. I loved the world built in the story. It was truly magical and exciting. There was so much action and plot twists that I was in a constant state of an adrenaline rush. You will be at the edge of your seat, so hang on.
Now for the cake! The Why Choose relationship *wink, wink* I loved how the relationship developed between Ellis and three men, and that they were so careful and gentle with her. They did not have the prejudices that other magical beings have towards humans. All three made a great effort to uplift her, not just spiritually but in their sexual relationship. DAMN! if all three didn’t bring their A-game to show her what true intimacy was. They really opened Ellis’s eyes. The spice was so HOT!! Be prepared to have some vag flutters going on.
There was a cliffhanger and it left me gobsmacked. I am going to be keeping an eye out for the next book because I need to get answers.
This book is perfect for those looking for a fast paced, supernatural fantasy read. I was intrigued from the very beginning and because the entire storyline was fast-paced, I devoured this book in two days. I loved the mixture of different supernatural creatures living within the same city and co-existing.
There is not a lot of world building or in depth character backgrounds in this story but the author gives you just enough to understand the characters personalities. This book is action packed throughout the middle and end with betrayals and plot-twists but focuses mostly on the sexual relationship between the FMC and the MMCs so be warned if that is not your thing. I didn’t mind though as this book just felt like a good, quick, smutty book to get you out of a reading slump.
This is a reverse harem and “why choose” book but each of the four main characters got to have their own POV chapters throughout the book which was refreshing and made the storyline more interesting. Ellis, our FMC, is born with no magic so she is broken - beaten down by the world around her and the men in her life who should care for her. Our MMCs are immediately gentle and caring upon meeting her and help bring Ellis out of her shell to experience trust and new desires. The MMCs all had such a strong brotherly bond with each other before they met our FMC, Ellis and I loved that they brought their own dynamic personality into the relationship once it started developing. One quiet alpha, one dark and dominant, one sexy and sweet.
Be prepared for plenty of smutty-steamy sex scenes!!
**MAKE SURE TO CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS BEFORE READING**
I received this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This why choose romance was a handful. I can’t say I fully enjoyed it but it’s not bad either. I’d say it’s the perfect palette cleanser between hard fantasy books.
Why 3.5 stars? Well I usually rate a book by the way it made me feel. Did I enjoy myself? Yeah, but was the world building and the essence of the book mind blowing? Not really.
First off, I liked how the story was told, I won’t lie I had a bit of trouble getting to like the FMC but eventually I started to like her. I also felt like all the main characters were sharing a personality. It’s important for me that each of the characters stick to their own personality. I feel like this part is forgotten about, mainly while writing why choose romance. If the girl is stubborn at the start of the book, she needs to stay stubborn all the way!
I feel like the world building could have used some more polishing but that may be cause I’m an over-thinker and I need to understand absolutely everything about a new world for me to enjoy it.
Overall it was a good light read, filled with spicy scene and a great love story who will continue in a second book ( I hope so 🤞).
Even if it’s not my favourite read of the year it’s still a wonderful piece of art and I’m grateful to be able to share my thoughts with you all on this one! ✨
One last thing before you go, I’ve never been the kind to look up the trigger warning at the start of a book but I highly recommend you do it for this one ☝️
Warning: This book is a dark and gritty paranormal romance. It contains on page sexual assault, non-consent, sex, drugs/alcohol, violence, language, and blood. This is a why choose romance, meaning the main character will end up with at least three guys by the end of the series.
Tropes; ♥️ Kidnap ♥️ Fated mates ♥️ RH ♥️ MMF/MF/MM ♥️ On page 🌶️ ♥️ Touch her and ☠️ ♥️ Found family
Trigger warnings; abuse by a partner, violent scenes, on page sexual abuse, parent complicit in abuse
I went into this pretty open minded in all honesty. I was in a bit of a slump and scrolled through my downloads form SYK day and the cover drew me in. I love a RH and am a bit fan of PNR so thought it sounded right up my street. It isn’t like other RHs read in that there’s no tortured soul for the FMC to redeem and so far the world doesn’t seem to be ending. Actually I really liked that. It was refreshing that it wasn’t another ‘academy under threat’ story that ended up being a world war. Don’t get me wrong, I love that vibe, I’m a Tessa Hale auto buyer and normally finish her books in one sitting but I got sucked into how different this is.
All of the main characters are well developed. Kai, Cade and Sterling are all adorable and I loved them so much. Kai and Cade totally gave me Seth & Caleb vibes (IYKYK) and I am here for it ♥️. Sterling just feels like he needs a big cuddle and I offer myself as tribute. They’re all so sweet in their own right but you just know Kai’s going to rip your head off if you touch his girl.
The mental health and abuse survivor rep was really lovely, the recovery admittedly a little quick but we can probably presume that the whole fated mates thing has an impact there. I honestly loved this way more than I expected and read the whole thing in less than 24 hours. I can’t wait to dive into the next instalment.
Lovers of Tessa Hale, J Bree or the Twisted Sisters definitely need to give this a go!
As fate turns fatal for Ellice, she is too timid to fight for herself even after suffering abuse at the hands of her exploiting fiance,Sam who yearns only for her body and has no concern for her soul. Finding no way out she continues to suffer, even more so when her father who's her only surviving family isn't bothered about her wellbeing. Being labelled as a lowly human without any magical powers by her father Ellice is found suffering at the hands of her fate. Then the tables turn since there's a coming together of Malakai, Sterling, Cade the magical triad of lustros for Ellis. They abduct her from her house and what follows are a series of challenges lined up to find the best suitor for Ellice by her dad. The story involves great physical and emotional proximity between the Human, Vampire , Mage and the shifter wolf. This fantasy is a very cozy read , filled with love, magic, friendship, heartache, passion. Its a multiple POV. The spice level on this one is definitely a 5, it surely is an acutely steamy read. It's filled with relentless pursuits by the three to make Ellice feel special. There is immense hotness amongst them and a very seamless comfort and longing for each other runs all across the story. Its so calming to know that the three aren't mere Rogues, but acutely adorable creatures who wish the best for Ellice. This one is for you, if you are in love with dark romance along witj thrill and fantasy all around
First off I looooved this book! It’s a why choose fantasy which is my favorite!
Ellis, our FMC, is an absolute baddy! From the very beginning you see the abuse she is suffering from her father. Her healing journey is beautiful and only just begun.
The magic system in this book is very well done. In Lustros there are the haves and have nots. If you’re human then the magics can do whatever they want to you. It’s a constant fight for survival when you have vampires, shifters, mage’s, witches and fae.
Now the men in this book, holy smokes🥵🥵. I can’t choose. Lol Malakai, Cade, and Sterling can capture me anyday. They are powerful magics with a vampire, shifter and mage. The best part of them is the care they take to treat Ellis like a queen and make sure she wants for nothing. There is nothing more sexy than that.
If you love why choose fantasy, MMF, then you will love this book. I highly recommend. As for me I’m patiently awaiting book two because that cliffhanger left me reeling.

“It’s not fair Cade got to taste you already. I’ve been jealous ever since. You’re not playing favorites, are you?”
“We’re not gods, baby girl. We’re your monsters.”
“Yes. Please,” I beg. “I’ve learned my lesson. Please, touch me.”

Ellis is a human born with no magic. She is forced to follow the will of her father and is engaged to an abusive a-hole mage. She is a strong FMC who has suffered through a lot. Ellis finds herself being drawn to the vampire, shifter, and mage who are in a competition to win her.
Maliki, Sterling, and Cade protect Ellis and help her work through her trauma. They each build their own relationship with her. The MMCs are hot, protective, and fall for her very quickly. I like that even though MMCs are not blood related they still have a very close relationship with each other. Brothers by choice not by blood.
This is a fast paced easy read filled with twist and turns. The spice was really good. I really enjoyed this book.
This starts out brutal. Ellis is being physically abused by her fiancé and her dad knows but does nothing to stop it. When she finally snaps her father is angry and blames her. And the contest begins.. queue the mage, vampire and shifter.
So, I did enjoy this book overall. I thought the premise was great and the actual plot line had me hooked.
However, as with another one I read recently, I wasn’t aware when I applied for the ARC there was MM content. It’s just not my vibe. So I did have to skim/skip quite a lot of the spicy scenes in this book.
I also felt conflicted with how the guys were with Ellis. On the one hand they want to protect her but then in the same breath one of them is really quite pushy trying to get her to be intimate. Even after knowing she’d been abused. It just didn’t sit right with me. The author does an amazing job though at bringing forth Ellis war within herself at being scared of a man’s touch yet also wanting gentleness. It’s heartbreaking.
My favourite part of this book was Sterling. His wolf is just the cutest and I kinda want a snuggle!
Overall, These Dangerous Fates is a fast paced paranormal romance which tugs at your heartstrings.
This is probably more of a 2.8 than a 3 but Meh whatever.
There’s plenty of spice which is cool but the story itself needed work. One of my personal pet peeves is a damsel in distress FMC. Why in the HELL would you run away knowing damn well your psycho ex fiancée is WAITING for his chance to take you?! She proved multiple time through the book that the self defense classes she took were pretty much useless since she froze up every time she needed to use them. I can understand the trauma responses but ifs hard to feel bad when she’s not even trying. She can nagar to work through trauma when having sex but not to save her own life? Come. On. I don’t mind the kinda insta-love scenario but hoping right into sex after all the trauma she had seemed odd to me. Also Sterling not telling her about the hit on her mom and sister was crazyyyyyyyyy! She had full rights to be pissed!
I’m not sure how the whole revelation of her being a harpy will go but I am curious to see how it plays out because it truly makes no sense based on the books explanation. Of two different species can’t produce a magical child how did she become this mythical creature? And I’m pretty sure, or at least I hope, that her best friend ends up being supernatural as well. We shall see what unfolds in the next book

OMG WOW! This was soooooo freaking good. I loved every second of it and if sleep was an optional thing (which it isn't 😤) I would've read it in one night. Loved it so much. I was craving something where humans, vampires, shifters and witches/mages/warlocks are not enemies but together, and I got exactly that. I went in blind so I didn't exactly know what to expect. The harem had all the species and I loved that.
First of all, I WANT TO UNALIVE THOMAS! WTFFFFF. God he is so infuriating. So is Sam but Thomas is on another level for me. 🤬🤬
Now to that I have taken out my frustration, the good parts. I loveeeeeee the guys. They have the "bad guy" reputation but they are the best ones there is. They know how to treat someone with respect and dignity. They are good guys, not the monsters everyone think they are. Sam, Thomas and all the other guys in that city are the monsters.
And that poor girl, oh my God. She trusted people and they just stepped all over her, leaving her bleeding and bruised. I hope she gets what she deserves and can always remain with the guys.
The chemistry, and spice, and romance was top notch. Loved it to pieces. And I can't wait for more, at all. I need the next instalment NOW!
Highly recommended to everyone supernatural lovers. All romanasy lovers need to read this book, and essentially series.
A world filled with magical beings-vampires, shifters and mages, and the FMC is a non-magical human. After living two years in a personal hell, enduring abuse from a fiance she didn’t choose and a father who doesn’t care for her, she stands up for herself. An act of self-defense angers her father, and in retaliation, he creates the ultimate contest.
One that only the most powerful magicals can compete in to win her hand in marriage. The three most eligible bachelors of the town - A vampire prince, A wolf without a pack, A powerful mage join the contest and kidnap her.
The contest that was supposed to be a punishment ended up becoming the best decision of her life as these guys show her there are men who cherish their partners. I enjoyed watching them grow closer to each other and the spice was incredible. There was never a dull moment in the book.
The added mystery of her birth and the revelations that came with it added more to the story. I loved that Ellis has the support she deserves and that she did not let her situation with her fiancé ruin her life. This was such an exciting read and I can’t wait to learn more about these diverse characters!
Thank you so much to the author and Equality Book Tours for sending me a copy of the book to review!
